Abstract
Networks are amongst the central building blocks of many systems. Given a graph of a network, methods from graph theory enable a precise investigation of its properties. Software for the analysis of graphs is widely available and has been applied to study various types of networks. In some applications, graph acquisition is relatively simple. However, for many networks data collection relies on images where graph extraction requires domain-specific solutions. Here we introduce NEFI, a tool that extracts graphs from images of networks originating in various domains. Regarding previous work on graph extraction, theoretical results are fully accessible only to an expert audience and ready-to-use implementations for non-experts are rarely available or insufficiently documented. NEFI provides a novel platform allowing practitioners to easily extract graphs from images by combining basic tools from image processing, computer vision and graph theory. Thus, NEFI constitutes an alternative to tedious manual graph extraction and special purpose tools. We anticipate NEFI to enable time-efficient collection of large datasets. The analysis of these novel datasets may open up the possibility to gain new insights into the structure and function of various networks. NEFI is open source and available at http://nefi.mpi-inf.mpg.de.

Abstract
Adoptive immunotherapy with regulatory T cells (Treg) is a new option to promote immune tolerance following solid organ transplantation (SOT). However, Treg from elderly patients awaiting transplantation are dominated by the CD45RA(-) CD62L(+) central memory type Treg subset (TregCM), and the yield of well-characterized and stable naïve Treg (TregN) is low. It is, therefore, important to determine whether these TregCM are derived from the thymus and express high stability, suppressive capacity and a broad antigen repertoire like TregN. In this study, we showed that TregCM use a different T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire from conventional T cells (Tconv), using next-generation sequencing of all 24 Vβ families, with an average depth of 534 677 sequences. This showed almost no contamination with induced Treg. Furthermore, TregCM showed enhanced suppressive activity on Tconv at early checkpoints of immune activation controlling activation markers expression and cytokine secretion, but comparable inhibition of proliferation. Following in vitro expansion under mTOR inhibition, TregCM expanded equally as well as TregN without losing their function. Despite relatively limited TCR repertoire, TregCM also showed specific alloresponse, although slightly reduced compared to TregN. These results support the therapeutic usefulness of manufacturing Treg products from CD45RA(-) CD62L(+) Treg-enriched starting material to be applied for adoptive Treg therapy.

Abstract
Concept and design of an independent scientific evaluation of different pathways of care for schizophrenia patients in Germany with respect to effectiveness and efficiency are presented. In this prospective, observational study, schizophrenia patients receiving an integrated care treatment, the intervention group (IG), are compared with patients under routine care conditions treated by the same physician (first control group, CG 1). A second control group (CG 2) of patients treated by office-based psychiatrists not participating in the integrated care program will be recruited and their data compared with the two other groups. The total amount of psychiatric hospital days after 12 months is defined as primary outcome parameter. Secondary outcome parameters comprise the frequency of psychiatric inpatient readmissions, severity of schizophrenia symptoms, remission rates and quality of life. Patients undergo assessments at baseline, month 6 and 12 using standardized and experimental questionnaires. Routine data of a regional German social health insurance fund complement information on included patients. Additionally, a cost-effectiveness and cost-utility analysis will be performed. Until now, 137 psychiatrists included 980 patients in the integrated care project in Lower Saxony, Germany, and 47 psychiatrists (IG and both CGs) are willing to participate in the independent evaluation. For the first time, a prospective observational controlled evaluation study of a countrywide integrated care project planning to recruit 500 schizophrenia patients has started using comprehensive assessments as well as routine data of a social health insurance fund.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was the analysis of total, early and late complications following venous access port implantation between 1998 and 2008 at the Department of Surgery of the University of Rostock, Germany. A comparison between different implantation techniques addressing success rate, complication rate and duration of operation was performed. These results were further analysed in regard to the level of training of the participating surgeons. MATERIAL AND METHODS A retrospective analysis of 1423 venous access port implantations between 1998 and 2008 was performed. RESULTS The rate of total complications was 13.8%. Among 4.7% early complications pneumothorax was the most common. The rate of late complications was 9.1%. Most common were infection (4.9%) followed by dysfunction of the catheter (3.5%). 1322 venous access port implantations were performed using puncture of the subclavian vein and Seldinger's technique. 101 operations were performed by direct access through dissection of the cephalic vein and open introduction of the catheter. Operation time in the open group was significantly longer than in the puncture group (46.5 min vs. 38.7 min, p = 0.005). There were significantly more late complications (9.6% vs. 2%, p = 0.01) and total complications (14.5% vs. 4%, p = 0.005) in the puncture group vs. the open access group. Primary success rates of open access vs. puncture were 100% and 96.8%, respectively. The rate of complications was independent of the experience status of the surgeon. However, the rate of total and late complications significantly decreases with number of performed operations. CONCLUSION Venous port implantation is a relatively simple procedure despite its possible complications. An open access technique is safer than puncture. The rate of complications significantly decreases with increasing number of performed operations. Therefore venous port implantation and especially the open access method is an ideal teaching operation in a structured surgical training programme.

Abstract
A New Implant System for Orbital Prosthetic Rehabilitation: "Epiplating Mono" Prosthetic or episthetic rehabilitation of ear, eye and nose are currently most common performed using magnetic fixation. While at the beginning single implants have been used, now-a-days a more extended approach with plate fixation are recommended to enhance the stability of the anchored magnets. A newly designed implant system epiplating mono is presented that combines the structure of a single implant with additional fixation elements. In a pilot study this new implant system was used in 4 patients for prosthetic orbital rehabilitation. Further experiences with this new implant system are required necessitating long-term experiences of implant stability to define the value of the presented epiplating mono system for prosthetic rehabilitation.

Abstract
Diagnosis and classification of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are based on morphology and genetics. An increasing number of gene mutations have been found, and some are used for risk classification in AML patients with normal karyotype (cytogenetically normal (CN)-AML). In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we examined three frequent mutations in CN-AML: mutations of fms-related tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3-ITD), mutated nucleophosmin (NPM1), and mutations of the CCAAT enhancer-binding protein alpha (CEBPA) gene. A systematic literature search of publications listed in the electronic databases (Embase, Pubmed, Healthstar, BIOSIS, ISI Web of Knowledge and Cochrane) from 2000 up to March 2012 was performed (Fig. 1). Nineteen studies were included and qualitatively analyzed. Two to four studies entered the quantitative meta-analysis incorporating 1,378 to 1,942 patients with CN-AML. Meta-analysis for overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) showed FLT3-ITD to predict an unfavorable prognosis, with hazard ratios (HR) of 1.86 and 1.75, respectively. In contrast, meta-analysis of the impact of NPM1 and CEBPA mutations on OS yielded an HR of 0.56 for each mutation, while analysis of impact on RFS produced HRs of 0.37 and 0.42, respectively. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of mutations in the NPM1, CEBPA, and FLT3 genes. FLT3-ITD was associated with worse prognosis, whereas mutations in NPM1 and CEBPA genes were associated with a favorable prognosis.

Abstract
Abstract
The corrosion of the UAl
x
-Al research reactor fuel type in synthetic MgCl2-rich brine (static batch-type experiments)
was investigated with respect to the long-term safety of directly disposed research reactor fuel elements in salt
formations. During corrosion, crystalline secondary phases were formed, which may serve as a barrier against radionuclide
migration. For an optimized identification and quantification of the secondary phases using X-ray diffraction, a sample
treatment to separate and enrich the secondary phases is necessary. A grain size fractionation was carried out in
iso-propanol. A chemical composition and phase characterization of the secondary phases was accomplished. The results of the
chemical investigations reveal that only traces of Al and U were dissolved. The separation and enrichment of secondary phases
were carried out reproducible and successfully. Due to the phase characterization by scanning electron microscopy/energy
dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction the following secondary phases were unambiguously identified: Mg-Al-Cl
layered double hydroxide, lesukite, Fe layered double hydroxide (green rust), lawrencite, Fe (elemental), and traces of
uncorroded fuel (UAl4). The quantitative analysis showed that LDH compounds and lesukite are the major crystalline
phases. All other observed compounds were only present in trace amounts, i.e. constituting accessories. The Rietveld
analysis also revealed the high content of amorphous phases of approximately 30%, which are expected to include the
uranium as U(OH)4.
