Measurement of ϒ(1S) Elliptic Flow at Forward Rapidity in Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2019; 123:192301. Abstract
The first measurement of the ϒ(1S) elliptic flow coefficient (v_{2}) is performed at forward rapidity (2.5<y<4) in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The results are obtained with the scalar product method and are reported as a function of transverse momentum (p_{T}) up to 15 GeV/c in the 5%-60% centrality interval. The measured ϒ(1S)v_{2} is consistent with 0 and with the small positive values predicted by transport models within uncertainties. The v_{2} coefficient in 2<p_{T}<15 GeV/c is lower than that of inclusive J/ψ mesons in the same p_{T} interval by 2.6 standard deviations. These results, combined with earlier suppression measurements, are in agreement with a scenario in which the ϒ(1S) production in Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies is dominated by dissociation limited to the early stage of the collision, whereas in the J/ψ case there is substantial experimental evidence of an additional regeneration component.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease with high public health relevance in Germany. Therefore, the Robert Koch Institute startetd to establish a national diabetes surveillance system in Germany in 2016. Essential part of a surveillance system is the dissemination of health information to the relevant stakeholders to facilitate its translation into action.
Methods
For the development of the dissemination strategy, different sources of information were used. First, an online-survey combined with structured web-research explored dissemination approaches in the international context. Secondly, a workshop with public health experts from seven countries highlighted best practice examples. Based on this information, a dissemination strategy was developed in close alignment with the scientific advisory board of the diabetes surveillance including experts from politics, prevention research, regional health reporting, physicians/diabetologists and public health scientists.
Results
Three main questions were identified to be considered in the dissemination of health information: Which audience group is addressed? Which content is relevant to this group? What is the preferred format to communicate the information? Therefore, a diabetes report will be generated focusing on health policy makers summarizing the key information on the disease dynamic. A website containing all information including a visualization tool should facilitate access for stakeholders. Additionally, awareness needs to be raised using social media, classical media and direct interactions with relevant stakeholders.
Conclusions
In alignment with different stakeholder groups, the diabetes surveillance developed a dissemination strategy considering international best practice examples and innovative ideas for health data visualization. The next steps are to refine the dissemination strategy based on feedback from the different stakeholder groups to ensure the use of the provided information.
Key messages
A dissemination strategy for the diabetes surveillance has been developed in a participatory approach including experts from various stakeholder groups. Next steps include the refinement of the dissemination strategy and its formats based on stakeholders feedback requirements.

Investigations of Anisotropic Flow Using Multiparticle Azimuthal Correlations in pp, p-Pb, Xe-Xe, and Pb-Pb Collisions at the LHC. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2019; 123:142301. Abstract
Measurements of anisotropic flow coefficients (v_{n}) and their cross-correlations using two- and multiparticle cumulant methods are reported in collisions of pp at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, p-Pb at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, Xe-Xe at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.44 TeV, and Pb-Pb at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. The multiplicity dependence of v_{n} is studied in a very wide range from 20 to 3000 particles produced in the midrapidity region |η|<0.8 for the transverse momentum range 0.2<p_{T}<3.0 GeV/c. An ordering of the coefficients v_{2}>v_{3}>v_{4} is found in pp and p-Pb collisions, similar to that seen in large collision systems, while a weak v_{2} multiplicity dependence is observed relative to nucleus-nucleus collisions in the same multiplicity range. Using a novel subevent method, v_{2} measured with four-particle cumulants is found to be compatible with that from six-particle cumulants in pp and p-Pb collisions. The magnitude of the correlation between v_{n}^{2} and v_{m}^{2}, evaluated with the symmetric cumulants SC(m,n) is observed to be positive at all multiplicities for v_{2} and v_{4}, while for v_{2} and v_{3} it is negative and changes sign for multiplicities below 100, which may indicate a different v_{n} fluctuation pattern in this multiplicity range. The observed long-range multiparticle azimuthal correlations in high multiplicity pp and p-Pb collisions can neither be described by pythia 8 nor by impact-parameter-Glasma, music, and ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics model calculations, and hence, provide new insights into the understanding of collective effects in small collision systems.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
TASK-1 (K2P3.1) is an atrial-specific two-pore domain potassium channel that is significantly upregulated in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients resulting in shortened atrial action potential duration (APD). Inhibition of TASK-1 in human atrial cardiomyocytes reverses AF-related APD shortening to values observed in patients with sinus rhythm (SR). By in silico-modelling and experimental characterization of drug binding sites, doxapram was identified as specific inhibitor of TASK-1.
Purpose
In this study, we investigated the antiarrhythmic efficacy of doxapram in a porcine model of AF to convert and suppress AF.
Methods
We established a new porcine model of persistent AF without induced tachymyopathy. AF was induced in domestic pigs by intermittent atrial burst stimulation using implanted pacemakers. During AF episodes, burst stimulation was inhibited by an integrated pacemaker biofeedback algorithm. AV-node ablation was performed to prevent AF-associated heart failure. All pigs underwent catheter-based electrophysiological investigations prior to and after 14 days doxapram treatment. Pigs in the treatment group received intravenous applications of doxapram twice per day. Rhythm status was continuously recorded by intracardiac long-term ECG monitors. The application of doxapram for cardioversion and long term suppression of AF in pigs with persistent AF was evaluated. Subsequent to the doxapram treatment, porcine cardiomyocytes were isolated from right and left atria and electrophysiologically investigated by patch-clamp and multi-electrode experiments. Atrial electrical remodeling was characterized by analyses of ion channel expression at mRNA and protein levels.
Results
TASK-1 mRNA, protein and transmembrane current were significantly increased in AF pigs compared to SR controls, resulting in shortened atrial APDs. In doxapram-treated AF pigs the AF burden was significantly reduced. After 14 days treatment with doxapram, TASK-1 currents and atrial APDs recorded in porcine cardiomyocytes were reduced and similar to values of SR animals. Doxapram could be successfully applied for cardioversion in pigs with persistent AF. On average, cardioversion was observed 3 minutes after doxapram application.
Conclusion
Doxapram significantly suppressed AF episodes and normalized cellular electrophysiological characteristics in a porcine model of AF through inhibition of the TASK-1 ion channel. Furthermore, doxapram rapidly converted AF into SR in pigs. Therefore, doxapram might serve as a new antiarrhythmic drug to treat AF in patients.

Abstract
Abstract
Background and purpose
Mechanosensitive hTREK-1 (hK2P2.1) two-pore-domain potassium channels give rise to background currents that control resting membrane potential in excitable tissue. Recently TREK-1 currents have been linked to regulation of cardiac rhythm as well as hypertrophy and fibrosis. Even though pharmacological and biophysical characteristics of hTREK-1 channels have been widely studied, less is known about its posttranslational modifications. This study aims to evaluate whether hTREK-1 channels are N-glycosylated and whether glycosylation may affect channel functionality.
Experimental approach
Following pharmacological inhibition of N glycosylation, enzymatic digestion or mutagenesis, immunoblots of Xenopus laevis oocytes and HEK-233T cell lysates were used to assess electrophoretic mobility. Two-electrode voltage clamp measurements were employed to study channel function.
Key results
TREK-1 channels subunits undergo N-glycosylation at asparagine residues 110 and 134. The presence of sugar moieties at these two sites increases channel function. Detection of glycosylation-deficient mutant channels in surface fractions and recordings of macroscopic potassium currents mediated by these subunits demonstrate that non-glycosylated hTREK-1 channels subunits are able to reach the cell surface in general, but seemingly with reduced efficiency.
Conclusion and implications
hTREK-1 are glycoproteins and N glycosylation at positions 110 and 134 is involved in channel surface trafficking. These findings extend our view on regulation of hTREK-1 currents by posttranslational modifications and provide novel insights into how glycosylation deficiency disorders may promote arrhythmogenesis.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first experimental observation of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a multistrange baryon (hyperon) Ξ^{-}. The result is extracted from two-particle correlations of combined p-Ξ^{-}⊕p[over ¯]-Ξ[over ¯]^{+} pairs measured in p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV at the LHC with ALICE. The measured correlation function is compared with the prediction obtained assuming only an attractive Coulomb interaction and a standard deviation in the range [3.6, 5.3] is found. Since the measured p-Ξ^{-}⊕p[over ¯]-Ξ[over ¯]^{+} correlation is significantly enhanced with respect to the Coulomb prediction, the presence of an additional, strong, attractive interaction is evident. The data are compatible with recent lattice calculations by the HAL-QCD Collaboration, with a standard deviation in the range [1.8, 3.7]. The lattice potential predicts a shallow repulsive Ξ^{-} interaction within pure neutron matter and this implies stiffer equations of state for neutron-rich matter including hyperons. Implications of the strong interaction for the modeling of neutron stars are discussed.

Abstract
We present a lattice-QCD-based determination of the chiral phase transition temperature in QCD with two degenerate, massless quarks and a physical strange quark mass using lattice QCD calculations with the highly improved staggered quarks action. We propose and calculate two novel estimators for the chiral transition temperature for several values of the light quark masses, corresponding to Goldstone pion masses in the range of 58 MeV≲m_{π}≲163 MeV. The chiral phase transition temperature is determined by extrapolating to vanishing pion mass using universal scaling analysis. Finite-volume effects are controlled by extrapolating to the thermodynamic limit using spatial lattice extents in the range of 2.8-4.5 times the inverse of the pion mass. Continuum extrapolations are carried out by using three different values of the lattice cutoff, corresponding to lattices with temporal extents N_{τ}=6, 8, and 12. After thermodynamic, continuum, and chiral extrapolations, we find the chiral phase transition temperature T_{c}^{0}=132_{-6}^{+3} MeV.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hospital revenues generated by diagnosis-related groups (DRGs) are in part dependent on the coding of secondary diagnoses. Therefore, more and more hospitals trust specialized coders with this task, thereby relieving doctors from time-consuming administrative burdens and establishing a highly professionalized coding environment. However, it is vastly unknown if the revenues generated by the coders do indeed exceed their incurred costs. METHODS Coding data from the departments of dermatology, ophthalmology, and infectious diseases from Rostock University Hospital from 2007-2016 were analyzed for the effects of secondary diagnoses on the resulting DRG, i. e., hospital charges. RESULTS Ophthalmological case were highly resistant to the addition of secondary diagnoses. In contrast, adding secondary diagnoses to cases from infectious diseases resulted in 15% higher revenues. Although dermatological and infectious cases share the same sensitivity to secondary diagnoses, higher revenues could only rarely be realized in dermatology, probably owing to a younger, less multimorbid patient population. CONCLUSION Except for ophthalmology, trusting specialized coders with clinical coding generates additional revenues through the coding of secondary diagnoses which exceed the costs for employing these coders.

Azimuthal Anisotropy of Heavy-Flavor Decay Electrons in p-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2019; 122:072301. Abstract
Angular correlations between heavy-flavor decay electrons and charged particles at midrapidity (|η|<0.8) are measured in p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. The analysis is carried out for the 0%-20% (high) and 60%-100% (low) multiplicity ranges. The jet contribution in the correlation distribution from high-multiplicity events is removed by subtracting the distribution from low-multiplicity events. An azimuthal modulation remains after removing the jet contribution, similar to previous observations in two-particle angular correlation measurements for light-flavor hadrons. A Fourier decomposition of the modulation results in a positive second-order coefficient (v_{2}) for heavy-flavor decay electrons in the transverse momentum interval 1.5<p_{T}<4 GeV/c in high-multiplicity events, with a significance larger than 5σ. The results are compared with those of charged particles at midrapidity and those of inclusive muons at forward rapidity. The v_{2} measurement of open heavy-flavor particles at midrapidity in small collision systems could provide crucial information to help interpret the anisotropies observed in such systems.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE There are variable reports of risk of concordance for progression to islet autoantibodies and type 1 diabetes in identical twins after one twin is diagnosed. We examined development of positive autoantibodies and type 1 diabetes and the effects of genetic factors and common environment on autoantibody positivity in identical twins, nonidentical twins, and full siblings. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Subjects from the TrialNet Pathway to Prevention Study (N = 48,026) were screened from 2004 to 2015 for islet autoantibodies (GAD antibody [GADA], insulinoma-associated antigen 2 [IA-2A], and autoantibodies against insulin [IAA]). Of these subjects, 17,226 (157 identical twins, 283 nonidentical twins, and 16,786 full siblings) were followed for autoantibody positivity or type 1 diabetes for a median of 2.1 years. RESULTS At screening, identical twins were more likely to have positive GADA, IA-2A, and IAA than nonidentical twins or full siblings (all P < 0.0001). Younger age, male sex, and genetic factors were significant factors for expression of IA-2A, IAA, one or more positive autoantibodies, and two or more positive autoantibodies (all P ≤ 0.03). Initially autoantibody-positive identical twins had a 69% risk of diabetes by 3 years compared with 1.5% for initially autoantibody-negative identical twins. In nonidentical twins, type 1 diabetes risk by 3 years was 72% for initially multiple autoantibody-positive, 13% for single autoantibody-positive, and 0% for initially autoantibody-negative nonidentical twins. Full siblings had a 3-year type 1 diabetes risk of 47% for multiple autoantibody-positive, 12% for single autoantibody-positive, and 0.5% for initially autoantibody-negative subjects. CONCLUSIONS Risk of type 1 diabetes at 3 years is high for initially multiple and single autoantibody-positive identical twins and multiple autoantibody-positive nonidentical twins. Genetic predisposition, age, and male sex are significant risk factors for development of positive autoantibodies in twins.

Abstract
Levee construction results in the systematic replumbing of river systems and reduces the frequency of floodplain inundation, which impacts nutrient delivery and transformations in floodplains. Floodplain restoration via levee removal affects downstream water quality by restoring soil microbial metabolic pathways such as denitrification, anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox), and dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA). Although these metabolisms are important for the nitrogen cycle, few studies have quantified the contribution of all three pathways to nitrate retention or loss in restored floodplains. The objectives of this study were to quantify the relevance of denitrification, anammox and DNRA to nitrogen retention, characterize the hydrologic conditions most favorable to each pathway, and estimate the potential for floodplain restoration to improve nitrogen cycling in the Cosumnes River watershed. To address these goals, we simulated flood conditions in soil mesocosms collected from two floodplains where levees were breached in 1997 and 2014 along the Lower Cosumnes River in the San Joaquin Basin of California. River water enriched with K15NO3 tracer was pumped into each mesocosm at a constant rate for a period of 3 months. Samples were collected from the surface water and soil pore water for measurements of NO3-, NO2-, and NH4+ concentrations, and δ15N of dissolved gases (N2 and N2O). To the best of our knowledge, this study reports the highest relative contribution to N2 production due to anammox for freshwater systems (41 to 84%) to date. High anammox rates were associated with heterogeneous grain size distribution across depth and high nitrification rates. We quantify the capacity of restored floodplain soils with distinct textural and chemical characteristics to retain or release nitrogen during large and small floods in a particular water year.

Abstract
In this article, we propose a model of doctor-patient encounter that integrates the concept of therapeutic presence (TP), derived from psychotherapy research, as an indispensable substrate for the benefit of the therapeutic alliance between patient and doctor. To this end, the concepts of the doctor-patient relationship and doctor-patient communication are revisited to explore their therapeutic dimensions. The concept of TP is defined, and existing literature about the relationship between that concept, the therapeutic alliance, and mindfulness is reviewed, alongside an examination of related concepts that have developed within nursing and medicine. We conclude that TP emerges as a transtheoretical concept that can be integrated into our understanding of the doctor-patient encounter to improve both doctor-patient communication and the doctor-patient relationship. The way in which the biomedical model may limit a present medicine is discussed, and the means of integrating such a model of doctor-patient encounter into medical training and practice is analyzed.

Abstract
During the past few years, serial crystallography methods have undergone continuous development and serial data collection has become well established at high-intensity synchrotron-radiation beamlines and XFEL radiation sources. However, the application of experimental phasing to serial crystallography data has remained a challenging task owing to the inherent inaccuracy of the diffraction data. Here, a particularly gentle method for incorporating heavy atoms into micrometre-sized crystals utilizing lipidic cubic phase (LCP) as a carrier medium is reported. Soaking in LCP prior to data collection offers a new, efficient and gentle approach for preparing heavy-atom-derivative crystals directly before diffraction data collection using serial crystallography methods. This approach supports effective phasing by utilizing a reasonably low number of diffraction patterns. Using synchrotron radiation and exploiting the anomalous scattering signal of mercury for single isomorphous replacement with anomalous scattering (SIRAS) phasing resulted in high-quality electron-density maps that were sufficient for building a complete structural model of proteinase K at 1.9 Å resolution using automatic model-building tools.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although used as criterion for early drain removal, postoperative day (POD) 1 drain fluid amylase (DFA) ≤ 5000 U/L has low negative predictive value for clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula (CR-POPF). It was hypothesized that POD3 DFA ≤ 350 could provide further information to guide early drain removal. METHODS Data from a pancreas surgery consortium database for pancreatoduodenectomy and distal pancreatectomy patients were analyzed retrospectively. Those patients without drains or POD 1 and 3 DFA data were excluded. Patients with POD1 DFA ≤ 5000 were divided into groups based on POD3 DFA: Group A (≤350) and Group B (>350). Operative characteristics and 60-day outcomes were compared using chi-square test. RESULTS Among 687 patients in the database, all data were available for 380. Fifty-five (14.5%) had a POD1 DFA > 5000. Among 325 with POD1 DFA ≤ 5000, 254 (78.2%) were in Group A and 71 (21.8%) in Group B. Complications (35 (49.3%) vs 87 (34.4%); p = 0.021) and CR-POPF (13 (18.3%) vs 10 (3.9%); p < 0.001) were more frequent in Group B. CONCLUSIONS In patients with POD1 DFA ≤ 5000, POD3 DFA ≤ 350 may be a practical test to guide safe early drain removal. Further prospective testing may be useful.

Abstract
Centrifugal blood pumps are of substantial importance for intraoperative extracorporeal circulation and for temporary cardiac assist. Their development and improvement raises many specific questions, especially on mechanical blood properties, flow distribution, and the resulting biocompatibility. In this comprehensive study the influence of various pump geometries on blood trauma was investigated. For this purpose analytical calculations, hydrodynamic performance, numerical simulation, in vitro hemolysis tests and in vivo experiments were used. The gap between rotor and housing was found to be crucial showing a distinct minimum of hemolysis at a gap of 1.5 mm (in vitro increase of plasma free hemoglobin per 100 ml plasma an hour: ΔfHb/hour = 2.4±0.83 mg%/h at 1.5 mm versus 12 ± 2.2 mg%/h at 2.5 mm; p < 0.05). Housing diameter and shape of the vanes were of less importance for blood traumatization (d = 60 mm: ΔfHb/hour = 6.36 ± 1.8 mg%/h; d = 70 mm: fHb = 7.1 ± 1.9 mg%/h; straight radial vanes: 5.2 ± 1.8 mg%/h; straight inclined vanes: 6.8 ± 1.2 mg%/h; flexed vanes: 6.1 ± 2.0 mg%/h). Three animal experiments confirmed the optimization of geometry, with a mean fHb of 2.5 to 3.2 mg% in steady state. Hydrodynamic efficiency revealed to be a necessary, but not a sufficient and sensitive criterion for hemolysis minimization (e.g. changes of η < 10% for changes of fHb > 500%). Numerical simulation gives an improved insight in flow distribution, but can not yet be applied for quantification of blood trauma. The study supports theories on mechanical hemolysis predicting a hemolysis at shear levels of less than 500N/m2 depending on exposure time. With the methods used it was possible to develop a pump with very low hemolysis potential. For further reduction of blood trauma and correlated thrombus formation basic studies on cell damage in recirculating blood and also advanced flow studies in rotary pumps would be desirable.
