Abstract
The impurity radiation from the divertor region of the EAST tokamak is dominantly in the wavelength range of vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) due to the elevated edge electron temperature. A space-resolved VUV spectroscopy is developed to measure impurity radiation in the divertor region. An eagle-type VUV spectrometer with a focal length of 1 m is adopted in this system, equipped with a spherical grating and a charged-coupled device (CCD) detector. The performance of the VUV spectrometer is preliminarily tested on a synchrotron radiation facility. The wavelength calibration is conducted near 65 nm. It is found that the wavelength range observed by the CCD detector is about 11.07 nm around the central wavelength of about 65 nm. With a linear dispersion of 0.0053 nm/pixel, it is possible to measure the ion temperature lower than 20 eV at the edge region by analyzing the Doppler broadening of a carbon line. These test results show that the performance of the VUV spectrometer is capable of measuring divertor radiation and analyzing the ion temperature of edge impurity ions.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of idarucizumab in the treatment of perioperative cardiac tamponade and thromboembolic events during catheter ablation in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients under dabigatran therapy. Methods: This study was a retrospective analysis enrolling patients under dabigatran therapy, who underwent catheter ablation for AF at Beijing Anzhen Hospital from January 2019 to December 2020 and developed perioperative cardiac tamponade or acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and received idarucizumab to reverse the anticoagulant effect of dabigatran. Patients' age, sex, renal function, coagulation test and safety events at 30 d after idarucizumab administration were collected and analyzed. The clinical presentation and prognosis were also analyzed. Results: A total of 7 patients were included, 2 (2/7) were male, mean age was (66.3±11.2) years, serum creatinine level was (66.3±13.6) μmol/L, estimated glomerular filtration rate was (89.4±11.2) ml·min-1·1.73 m-2, CHA2DS2-VASc and HAS-BLED scores were (3.2±1.9) and (1.3±1.3), respectively. Five patients (5/7) developed cardiac tamponade during the perioperative period and the time interval to the last dose of dabigatran was (6.3±2.6) h. Idarucizumab was given at (36.4±16.7) min after the definitive diagnosis of cardiac tamponade. A significant decrease of activated partial thromboplastin time was achieved after idarucizumab administration in all five cases. Pericardial puncture and drainage were applied to all patients (5/5) with cardiac tamponade, the drainage volume was (1 037.0±846.9) ml, the retention time of pericardial drainage catheter was (27.9±13.9) h, and the recovery time of anticoagulation was (28.4±13.2) h. One patient (1/5) underwent thoracotomy for hemostasis due to excessive blood loss with the aim of ensuring complete hemostasis. Bleeding occurred in 1 patient (1/5) after the first restart of anticoagulation. AIS occurred in 2 patients (2/7) after operation. One case (1/2) received intravenous thrombolysis after receiving 5.0 g idarucizumab, no hemorrhagic transformation was observed, and the recovery process was satisfactory. Another patient in this group experienced significantly prolonged onset time and 5.0 g idarucizumab was applied before intravascular thrombectomy, there was no bleeding complication in this patient after thrombectomy. At the time of discharge, the consciousness was not significantly improved, and the muscle strength of the right lower limb was recovered somehow compared with that before operation. No hypersensitivity reactions or thrombotic events occurred in these patients within 30 days of the administration of idarucizumab. Conclusion: In AF catheter ablation-associated cardiac tamponade and AIS, idarucizumab is safe and effective in rapidly reversing the anticoagulant effect of dabigatran, use of thrombectomy saves valuable time for timely hemostasis and improvement of cerebral blood circulation.

Abstract
Results of a Monte Carlo code intercomparison exercise for simulations of the dose enhancement from a gold nanoparticle (GNP) irradiated by X-rays have been recently reported. To highlight potential differences between codes, the dose enhancement ratios (DERs) were shown for the narrow-beam geometry used in the simulations, which leads to values significantly higher than unity over distances in the order of several tens of micrometers from the GNP surface. As it has come to our attention that the figures in our paper have given rise to misinterpretation as showing 'the' DERs of GNPs under diagnostic X-ray irradiation, this article presents estimates of the DERs that would have been obtained with realistic radiation field extensions and presence of secondary particle equilibrium (SPE). These DER values are much smaller than those for a narrow-beam irradiation shown in our paper, and significant dose enhancement is only found within a few hundred nanometers around the GNP. The approach used to obtain these estimates required the development of a methodology to identify and, where possible, correct results from simulations whose implementation deviated from the initial exercise definition. Based on this methodology, literature on Monte Carlo simulated DERs has been critically assessed.

Abstract
In view of increasing drug resistance, ecofriendly photoelectrical materials are promising alternatives to antibiotics. Here we design an interfacial Schottky junction of Bi2S3/Ti3C2Tx resulting from the contact potential difference between Ti3C2Tx and Bi2S3. The different work functions induce the formation of a local electrophilic/nucleophilic region. The self-driven charge transfer across the interface increases the local electron density on Ti3C2Tx. The formed Schottky barrier inhibits the backflow of electrons and boosts the charge transfer and separation. The photocatalytic activity of Bi2S3/Ti3C2Tx intensively improved the amount of reactive oxygen species under 808 nm near-infrared radiation. They kill 99.86% of Staphylococcus aureus and 99.92% of Escherichia coli with the assistance of hyperthermia within 10 min. We propose the theory of interfacial engineering based on work function and accordingly design the ecofriendly photoresponsive Schottky junction using two kinds of components with different work functions to effectively eradicate bacterial infection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to prepare carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) and lysozyme nanogels that could encapsulate amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) for achieving its controlled delivery, thus forming an aprismatic enamel-like layer on the demineralized enamel surface. METHODS CMC/LYZ-ACP nanogels were developed, and the controlled delivery of ACP from the nanogels was induced by the presence of NaCl. The nanogel morphologies at various NaCl concentrations was measured by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The particle sizes and zeta potentials (ζ-potential) of the samples were determined using a combined dynamic light scattering/particle electrophoresis instrument. Comparing the remineralization effect of the CMC/LYZ-ACP nanogels on the demineralized enamel surface with that of a fluoride treatment, the remineralization effect was examined by nanoindentation tests, X-ray diffraction (XRD), confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). RESULTS CMC/LYZ-ACP nanogels were negatively charged spherical structures with a particle size of approximately 300 nm. At high concentrations of NaCl (0.15 M), ACP was dissociated from the disassembled nanogels and transformed into hydroxyapatite (HAP). Groups treated with the CMC/LYZ-ACP nanogels showed the regeneration of an aprismatic enamel-like layer on an acid-etched enamel surface, which provided increased mechanical properties (P < 0.05) and a high impermeability (P < 0.01) compared to those of the fluoride-treated group. CONCLUSIONS This research provides a new idea for the stable and controllable delivery of ACP from CMC/LYZ-ACP nanogels, which can form an aprismatic enamel-like layer in situ on the surface of demineralized enamel. In regard to further clinical development, this material and method may be promising for treating early enamel caries.

Abstract
Photodynamic therapy (PDT), an emerging approach that involves photosensitizers, light, and molecular oxygen, has shown promise for fighting periodontitis. However, PDT does not always acquire the desired therapeutic outcomes since some photosensitizers have strong hydrophobic properties and are difficult to absorb efficiently by periodontal pathogenic bacteria. Here, a hydrophobic photosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6) was hydrophilically modified via conjugation with TAT peptide, a cationic cell-penetrating peptide, to improve its solubility and enhance its bacterial adsorption by promoting its interaction with the negatively charged cell walls and penetration through the cell membranes. The obtained TAT-Ce6 conjugate (TAT-Ce6) was used to prepare self-assembled nanoparticles (NPs) for loading tinidazole (TDZ), a clinically used antibiotic agent, thus hoping to achieve synergistic antiperiodontitis effects through combining PDT and antibiotic therapy. Compared to free Ce6, TAT-Ce6 nanoparticles (TAT-Ce6 NPs) had greatly enhanced adsorption and penetration abilities for periodontal pathogen bacteria and also exhibited significantly increased PDT efficiencies in both periodontal pathogen bacteria and monocyte macrophages. Upon 635 nm laser irradiation, TDZ-loaded TAT-Ce6 (TAT-Ce6/TDZ) NPs exerted remarkable synergistic antiperiodontitis effects of PDT and antibiotic therapy, reflecting in the effective killing of periodontal pathogenic bacteria in vitro and the reduced adsorption of alveolar bone in the Sprague-Dawley rat model of periodontitis. Altogether, this study develops a novel photosensitizer that can be efficiently absorbed by the periodontal pathogenic bacteria and also provides a potent combination strategy of PDT with antibiotic therapy for clinical periodontitis treatment.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the clinical outcomes of one and two blastocysts in the freeze-thaw transplantation cycle. Methods: Totally 3 675 cycles of frozen thawed blastocyst transplantation in Reproductive Medical Center of the Second Nanning People's Hospital from January 2012 to December 2016 were analyzed retrospectively. According to the quantity and quality of transferred blastocysts, all the patient were divided into two groups: (1) one embryo group, including the single excellent group (one high quality blastocyst) and the single non excellent group (one non high quality blastocyst); (2) two embryo groups, including the double excellent group (two high quality blastocysts), the one excellent and one non excellent group (one high quality blastocyst+one non high quality blastocyst), and the two non excellent group (two non high quality blastocysts were transplanted). Then the patients were divided into subgroups according to their ages: less than 35 years old, 35-40 years old and over 40 years old. On this basis, the implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, multiple birth rate and live birth rate were compared. Results: (1) The implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, multiple birth rate, preterm birth rate and live birth rate were all significantly increased, while the abortion rate was significantly reduced in the double blastocyst group (all P<0.05). (2) In the group of<35 years old, the rates of multiple birth and preterm birth in the double blastocyst group were significantly higher than those in the single optimal group (P<0.01). (3) In the 35-40 years old group, the clinical pregnancy rate, multiple birth rate and live birth rate of the double excellent group were significantly higher than those of the single excellent group (P<0.01); while the clinical pregnancy rate and live birth rate of the one excellent and one non excellent group and the double non excellent group were not significantly different from those of the single excellent group (P>0.05), but the multiple birth rate and preterm birth rate were significantly increased (P<0.01). The clinical pregnancy rate, live birth rate and multiple birth rate of double non optimal group were significantly higher than those of single non optimal group (P<0.01). (4) In the group>40 years old, there were no significant differences in clinical pregnancy rate and live birth rate between the two groups (P>0.05). There were no significant differences in implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate and live birth rate between double non optimal group and single non optimal group (P>0.05). Conclusion: No matter the age of the patients, if the couple have high quality blastocysts, we should give priority to single high quality blastocyst transplantation; even if they have no high quality blastocysts, we should also consider single blastocyst transplantation, in order to reduce the risk of multiple pregnancy and improve the cumulative live birth rate, so as to improve the pregnancy outcome.

Abstract
Both phototherapy via photocatalysts and physical puncture by artificial nanostructures are promising substitutes for antibiotics when treating drug-resistant bacterial infectious diseases. However, the photodynamic therapeutic efficacy of photocatalysts is seriously restricted by the rapid recombination of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Meanwhile, the nanostructures of physical puncture are limited to two-dimensional (2D) platforms, and they cannot be fully used yet. Thus, this research developed a synergistic system of Ag3PO4 nanoparticles (NPs), decorated with black urchin-like defective TiO2 (BU–TiO2-X/Ag3PO4). These NPs had a decreased bandgap compared to BU-TiO2-X, and BU-TiO2-X/Ag3PO4 (3:1) exhibited the lowest bandgap and the highest separation efficiency for photogenerated electron–hole pairs. After combination with BU-TiO2-X, the photostability of Ag3PO4 improved because the oxygen vacancy of BU-TiO2-X retards the reduction of Ag+ in Ag3PO4 into Ag0, thus reducing its toxicity. In addition, the nanospikes on the surface of BU-TiO2-X can, from all directions, physically puncture bacterial cells, thus assisting the hybrid's photodynamic therapeutic effects, alongside the small amount of Ag+ released from Ag3PO4. This achieves synergy, endowing the hybrid with high antibacterial efficacy of 99.76 ± 0.15% and 99.85 ± 0.09% against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, respectively, after light irradiation for 20 min followed by darkness for 12 h. It is anticipated that these findings may bring new insight for developing synergistic treatment strategies against bacterial infectious diseases or pathogenic bacterial polluted environments. BU-TiO2-X/Ag3PO4 (3:1) hybrid improved the photostability of Ag3PO4. BU-TiO2-X/Ag3PO4 (3:1) hybrid exhibited outstanding photodynamic therapeutic effects. The nanospikes from all directions on the BU-TiO2-X physically punctured bacterial cells. The physical puncture combined with the Ag+ released by Ag3PO4 had long-term bacteriostatic efficacy.

Abstract
Owing to the poor penetration depth of light, phototherapy, including photothermal and photodynamic therapies, remains severely ineffective in treating deep tissue infections such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-infected osteomyelitis. Here, we report a microwave-excited antibacterial nanocapturer system for treating deep tissue infections that consists of microwave-responsive Fe3O4/CNT and the chemotherapy agent gentamicin (Gent). This system, Fe3O4/CNT/Gent, is proven to efficiently target and eradicate MRSA-infected rabbit tibia osteomyelitis. Its robust antibacterial effectiveness is attributed to the precise bacteria-capturing ability and magnetic targeting of the nanocapturer, as well as the subsequent synergistic effects of precise microwaveocaloric therapy from Fe3O4/CNT and chemotherapy from the effective release of antibiotics in infection sites. The advanced target-nanocapturer of microwave-excited microwaveocaloric-chemotherapy with effective targeting developed in this study makes a major step forward in microwave therapy for deep tissue infections. Deep tissue infections can be difficult to treat due to limited light penetration associated with phototherapies. Here, the authors report on a bacterial capture system for antibiotic delivery and microwave-assisted killing of MRSA in osteomyelitis and demonstrate application in vivo.

Abstract
Bacterial infectious diseases and bacterial-infected environments have been threatening the health of human beings all over the world. In view of the increased bacteria resistance caused by overuse or improper use of antibiotics, antibacterial biomaterials are developed as the substitutes for antibiotics in some cases. Among them, antibacterial hydrogels are attracting more and more attention due to easy preparation process and diversity of structures by changing their chemical cross-linkers via covalent bonds or noncovalent physical interactions, which can endow them with various specific functions such as high toughness and stretchability, injectability, self-healing, tissue adhesiveness and rapid hemostasis, easy loading and controlled drug release, superior biocompatibility and antioxidation as well as good conductivity. In this review, the recent progress of antibacterial hydrogel including the fabrication methodologies, interior structures, performances, antibacterial mechanisms, and applications of various antibacterial hydrogels is summarized. According to the bacteria-killing modes of hydrogels, several representative hydrogels such as silver nanoparticles-based hydrogel, photoresponsive hydrogel including photothermal and photocatalytic, self-bacteria-killing hydrogel such as inherent antibacterial peptides and cationic polymers, and antibiotics-loading hydrogel are focused on. Furthermore, current challenges of antibacterial hydrogels are discussed and future perspectives in this field are also proposed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Since December 2019, over 80,000 patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been confirmed in China. With the increasing number of recovered patients, more attention should be paid to the follow-up of these patients. METHODS In the study, 576 patients with COVID-19 discharged from hospital in Chongqing, China from January 24, 2020, to March 10, 2020 were evaluated by viral nucleic acid tests for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2) to determine if they could be released from quarantine. Among the 576 patients, 61 patients (10.6%) had positive RT-PCR test results of SARS-CoV-2. We aimed to analyze the demographics, clinical characteristics and treatment of 61 patients. RESULTS These positive patients were characterized by older age, chronic medical illness and mild conditions. 38 (62.3%) patients who were asymptomatic without abnormalities on chest radiographs were found in the positive with COVID-19. Also, they showed positive results of stool or sputum specimens with negative results of nasal and pharyngeal swab specimens. The median duration of positive result of SARS-CoV-2 was varied from 3 days to 35 days in the patients discharged from hospital with no family member infection. CONCLUSIONS Multi-site screening of SARS-CoV-2 including nasal and pharyngeal swabs, stool and sputum specimens could be considered to improve the diagnosis, treatment and infection control in patients with COVID-19. Our findings provide the important information and clinical evidence for the improved management of patients recovered from COVID-19.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of Demodex infection among students in Kunming Medical University, and identify the factors affecting Demodex infections, so as to provide the evidence for the development of the strategy for the prevention of Demodex infections. METHODS A total of 1 463 students from Grade 2014 who studied Medical Parasitology in Kunming Medical University were included in the survey. Demodex was examined in students'facial skin using the cellophane tape method, and the species was identified using microscopy. The students'gender, ethnicity, place of origin and skin type were captured using a questionnaire survey. RESULTS The overall prevalence of Demodex infections was 19.07% (279/1 463) on the facial skin among the university students, and a higher prevalence was seen in girls (21.16%, 183/865) than in boys (16.05%, 96/598) (χ2 =5.965,P <0.05).TheprevalenceofDemodex infectionswas18.33%(66/360)amongminorethnicstudents,andnoethnicity-specific prevalence was seen (P > 0.05). Demodex folliculorum was the predominant species, with a prevalence of 50.54% (141/279), and mild infections were predominant among all infections (96.77%, 270/279), without severe infections seen. Multivariate nonconditional logistic regression analysis revealed that gender and roommates with Demodex infections were risk factors of Demodex infections, and the infection was not associated with ethnicity, place of origin or skin type. There were only 2.53% (37/1 463) of the subjects understanding the knowledge pertaining to the prevention and control of Demodex infection. CONCLUSIONS A relatively low prevalence of Demodex infection is detected in the facial skin of students from Kunming Medical University, and Demodex infection is associated with gender and roommates with Demodex infections. Health education pertaining to the prevention of Demodex infections is suggested to be intensified among university students.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the prevalence risk factors of Beijing genotype Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) in Beijing and its correlation with second-line anti tuberculosis drug resistance. Methods: A total of 1 140 clinical MTB positive strains were collected from various districts in Beijing, and the drug sensitivity was detected by proportion method. Beijing genotype and non Beijing genotype MTB were identified by the method of Spoligotyping. Using SPSS 22.0 statistical software, chi square test or Fisher exact probability test was used to analyze the experimental data. Results: Among 1 140 MTB clinical isolates, 941 (82.5%) were Beijing genotype MTB, 199 were non Beijing genotype MTB. There were 663 males (70.5%) in Beijing genotype and 124 males (62.3%) in non Beijing genotype strains. There were significant differences in the proportion of males between the two genotypes [P=0.021, OR (95% CI):1.442 (1.048-1.985)]. There were 441 floating population (46.9%) in Beijing genotype MTB and 78 floating population (39.2%) in non Beijing genotype MTB. There was a significant difference in the proportion of floating population between the two genotypes [P=0.048,OR (95%CI):1.368(1.001-1.869)]. There were 129 patients (13.7%) aged 65 or older in Beijing genotype MTB, 40 patients (20.1%) aged 65 or older in non Beijing genotype MTB. The difference was statistically significant [P=0.021, or (95% CI): 0.631 (0.426-0.936)]. The resistance drug rates of Levofloxacin (Lfx), Amikacin (Am), Capreomycin (Cm), Para-aminosalicylic (PAS) in Beijing genotypes were 5.5% (52/941), 1.3% (12/941), 3.2% (30/941) and 3.0% (28/941), respectively, and those of non Beijing genotypes were 10.6% (21/199), 8.5% (17/199, 12.6% (25/199) and 11.6% (23/199), the difference was statistically significant (all P<0.05). There were 58 (6.2%) multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains in Beijing genotype MTB and 19 (9.5%) multidrug-resistant strains in non Beijing genotype. There was no significant difference in the proportion of MDR strains between Beijing genotype and non Beijing genotype (P>0.05). Conclusions: Beijing genotype MTB is widespread in Beijing and has a higher proportion in male population and floating population. Compared with non Beijing genotype, Beijing genotype MTB has a lower resistance rate to Lfx, Am, Cm and PAS, and there is no significant difference in the proportion of MDR-TB patients between the two genotypes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION To compare the intermediate-term outcomes and patient-reported outcomes of robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) and radical external beam radiotherapy (RT) in Chinese patients with localised prostate cancer. METHODS This was a retrospective study of patients with localised prostate cancer diagnosed between 2010 and 2011 and treated with either RALP or RT. Baseline patient and disease characteristics, post-treatment complications, and latest disease status were retrospectively collected from hospital records. For assessment of patient-reported outcomes, the Chinese version of the Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite (EPIC) questionnaire was completed by the patients. RESULTS Ninety three patients aged 58 to 84 years were recruited. Thirty patients were treated by RALP (32.3%), whereas 63 received RT (67.7%). The RALP group had significantly lower baseline prostate-specific antigen levels than the RT group (P<0.001). More patients who underwent RALP reported urinary incontinence (70.0% vs 3.2%, P<0.001), whereas more patients who underwent RT reported other voiding symptoms (87.3% vs 50.0%, P<0.001) and perirectal bleeding (36.5% vs 0%, P<0.001) during follow-up. Of the 85 patients who were still alive at the time of the study, 52 (61.2%) returned completed questionnaires. Patients who underwent RALP had poorer median (interquartile range) EPIC urinary summary scores than patients who underwent RT [81.5 (18.3) vs 88.9 (17.9), P=0.016]. Urinary function [75.9 (20.4) vs 93.6 (16.2), P<0.001] and incontinence [60.5 (31.8) vs 91.8 (14.5), P<0.001] were also significantly worse in the RALP group. The bowel and sexual domain scores were similar between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS We found that RALP and RT were associated with different patterns of complications and patient-reported outcomes. Urinary incontinence was much more prevalent in the patients treated surgically. This may significantly affect patients' quality of life.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In the context of universal health insurance coverage, this study aimed to determine whether urban-rural inequality still exists in preventive health care (PHC) amongst children in Taiwan. STUDY DESIGN Prospective cohort study. METHODS A total of 184,117 mothers and their children born in 2009 were identified as the study cohort. The number of children born in urban, satellite and rural areas was 40,176, 57,565 and 86,805, respectively. All children were followed for 7 years, before which a total of seven times PHC were provided by Taiwan's National Health Insurance (NHI) programme. Ordinal logistic regression models were used to associate urbanisation level with the frequency of PHC utilisation. Stratified analyses were further performed in accordance with the children's birth weight and the mothers' birthplace. RESULTS Children from satellite areas had higher utilisation for the first four scheduled PHC visits. Children living in urban areas received more PHC for the fifth and sixth scheduled visits. Compared with those from rural areas, children in satellite areas exhibited a small but significant increase in odds in PHC utilisation, with a covariate-adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of 1.04 and 95% confidence interval (CI) of 1.02-1.06. By contrast, no significant difference was observed between rural and urban areas (aOR = 1.01). Further stratified analyses suggest more evident urban-rural difference in PHC utilisation amongst children with low birth weight and foreign-born mothers. CONCLUSIONS Given a universal health insurance coverage and embedded mechanisms in increasing the availability of healthcare resources in Taiwan, a slight urban-rural difference is observed in PHC utilisation amongst children. Hence, sociodemographic inequality in utilisation of PHC still exists. This issue should be addressed through policy intervention.

Abstract
PURPOSE Zinc (Zn), an essential trace element in the body, has stable chemical properties, excellent osteogenic ability and moderate immunomodulatory property. In the present study, a Zn-incorporated TiO2 nanotube (TNT) was fabricated on titanium (Ti) implant material. We aimed to evaluate the influence of nano-scale topography and Zn on behaviors of murine RAW 264.7 macrophages. Moreover, the effects of Zn-incorporated TNT surface-regulated macrophages on the behaviors and osteogenic differentiation of murine MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts were also investigated. METHODS TNT coatings were firstly fabricated on a pure Ti surface using anodic oxidation, and then nano-scale Zn particles were incorporated onto TNTs by the hydrothermal method. Surface topography, chemical composition, roughness, hydrophilicity, Zn release pattern and protein adsorption ability of the Zn-incorporated TiO2 nanotube surface were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), surface profiler, contact angle test, Zn release test and protein adsorption test. The cell behaviors and both pro-inflammatory (M1) and pro-regenerative (M2) marker gene and protein levels in macrophages cultured on Zn-incorporated TNTs surfaces with different TNT diameters were detected. The supernatants of macrophages were extracted and preserved as conditioned medium (CM). Furthermore, the behaviors and osteogenic properties of osteoblasts cultured in CM on various surfaces were evaluated. RESULTS The release profile of Zn on Zn-incorporated TNT surfaces revealed a controlled release pattern. Macrophages cultured on Zn-incorporated TNT surfaces displayed enhanced gene and protein expression of M2 markers, and M1 markers were moderately inhibited, compared with the LPS group (the inflammation model). When cultured in CM, osteoblasts cultured on Zn-incorporated TNTs showed strengthened cell proliferation, adhesion, osteogenesis-related gene expression, alkaline phosphatase activity and extracellular mineralization, compared with their TNT counterparts and the Ti group. CONCLUSION This study suggests that the application of Zn-incorporated TNT surfaces may establish an osteogenic microenvironment and accelerate bone formation. It provided a promising strategy of Ti surface modification for a better applicable prospect.

Abstract
PURPOSE Targeted radiation therapy has seen an increased interest in the past decade. In vitro and in vivo experiments showed enhanced radiation doses due to gold nanoparticles (GNPs) to tumors in mice and demonstrated a high potential for clinical application. However, finding a functionalized molecular formulation for actively targeting GNPs in tumor cells is challenging. Furthermore, the enhanced energy deposition by secondary electrons around GNPs, particularly by short-ranged Auger electrons is difficult to measure. Computational models, such as Monte Carlo (MC) radiation transport codes, have been used to estimate the physical quantities and effects of GNPs. However, as these codes differ from one to another, the reliability of physical and dosimetric quantities needs to be established at cellular and molecular levels, so that the subsequent biological effects can be assessed quantitatively. METHODS In this work, irradiation of single GNPs of 50 nm and 100 nm diameter by X-ray spectra generated by 50 and 100 peak kilovoltages was simulated for a defined geometry setup, by applying multiple MC codes in the EURADOS framework. RESULTS The mean dose enhancement ratio of the first 10 nm-thick water shell around a 100 nm GNP ranges from 400 for 100 kVp X-rays to 600 for 50 kVp X-rays with large uncertainty factors up to 2.3. CONCLUSIONS It is concluded that the absolute dose enhancement effects have large uncertainties and need an inter-code intercomparison for a high quality assurance; relative properties may be a better measure until more experimental data is available to constrain the models.

Abstract
Abstract
We purified acid phosphatase isoenzyme 5b from a human spleen affected by leukemic reticuloendotheliosis and used it to produce a specific antiserum. The antiserum was used to show complete immunological identity among isoenzymes 5a and 5b in human serum, and 5b isolated from a giant-cell bone tumor and from the spleen of a case of Hodgkin's disease. Acid phosphatase 5b in a giant-cell bone tumor was isolated for biochemical characterization. Its pH optimum and substrate specificity were very similar to those of isoenzyme 5b from human spleen.
