Abstract
We compare the transverse-momentum (pT) distribution of inclusive light-charged-particle production measured by the CDF Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron with the theoretical prediction evaluated at next-to-leading order in quantum chromodynamics using fragmentation functions recently determined through a global data fit. While in the lower pT range the data agree with the prediction within the theoretical error or slightly undershoot it, they significantly exceed it in the upper pT range, by several orders of magnitude at the largest values of pT, potentially challenging the factorization theorem.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We examined the relation between Apolipoprotein E epsilon4 allele (ApoE epsilon4) genotype and functional connectivity measured by Electroencephalography (EEG) in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and patients with subjective complaints (SC). METHODS We included 43 patients with AD (age (SD)=74.2 (4.0), m/f=22/21; 30 of ApoE epsilon4 carriers) and 21 patients with SC (age (SD)=73.2 (5.2), m/f=13/8; 7 ApoE epsilon4 carriers) for this study. Resting state EEGs were recorded in all subjects. Synchronisation likelihood (SL) between local cortical areas was compared in the alpha and beta band according to ApoE epsilon4 status and diagnosis. RESULTS ApoE epsilon4 carriers had higher SL values in lower and upper alpha band, in both diagnostic groups. In upper alpha band and beta band AD patients had lower SL than patients with SC, was irrespective of ApoE status. CONCLUSION The effects of AD and ApoE epsilon4 on functional connectivity are opposite and independent. SIGNIFICANCE The observed increase in SL in both AD and patients with SC carrying ApoE epsilon4 suggests a strong genetic impact of ApoE epsilon4 on brain function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a standard method and a widely used marker for prostate cancer, but it has a poor specificity for early detection. Herein we demonstrate that intracellular macrophage PSA (imPSA) enables screening and differentiation between benign and malignant prostate disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS The efficacy of intracellular macrophage PSA in circulating and tissue macrophages was therefore investigated in a double-centre study of 38 prostate cancer patients and 36 healthy controls by fluorescent-activated cell sorting analysis and immunohistology. RESULTS Both methods uncovered the existence of PSA-positive macrophages specific for patients with prostate cancer. In addition, we demonstrate the superiority of our new test over standard serum total PSA in a blinded double-centre trial. ImPSA had a marked higher sensitivity and specificity than serum total PSA (imPSA: sensitivity 92%, specificity 92%, positive predictive value 92%; serum total PSA: sensitivity 79.5%, specificity 87.5%, positive predictive value 26.8%). CONCLUSION In this study, we demonstrate that imPSA is a new prostate cancer screening method that is highly sensitive and more specific than standard PSA testing.

Abstract
The standard analytic solution to the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi equation in Mellin space is improved by resumming the large-x divergences. Explicit results are given to next-to-leading order and next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, which significantly reduce the parton density functions' theoretical uncertainties, more than the inclusion of next-to-next-to-leading order corrections in some cases, and is, therefore, of paramount importance for the reliable interpretation of ongoing and future experiments with hadron beams or targets, including those at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A decompensated storage function with high pressures is the greatest risk factor regarding life expectancy and quality of life in patients with neurogenic detrusor hyperactivity. Previously, this problem could only be managed with administration of anticholinergic medications or--if this approach was either not effective enough or the patients exhibited drug intolerance--by invasive surgical interventions. The use of botulinum toxin type A to treat these patients rapidly proved to be a beneficial alternative to those two therapeutic options ever since its introduction in Germany in 1998 as a minimally invasive procedure and has become established worldwide. MATERIAL AND METHODS The medical records of first-time users at the clinic were retrospectively analyzed for a 7-year period. The total of 492 injections in 277 patients--of which 365 injections in 216 patients were performed following a standardized protocol--represents the largest number of cases worldwide. The treatment was indicated in patients experiencing insufficient efficacy of anticholinergic agents or drug intolerance who were capable of self-catheterization. RESULTS The standard injection contained either 300 MU Botox or 750 MU Dysport. Urodynamic parameters before and up to 8 months post-intervention showed significantly lowered detrusor pressure and improved cystometric capacity. This corresponded to the clinical assessment and subjective impression of the patients that detrusor activity had been reduced to a large extent with improved continence. Evacuation was carried out in all cases without any difficulty by aseptic intermittent catheterization. The average duration of the effect was subjectively determined to be 8.7 months. In the vast majority of cases, anticholinergic medications could be discontinued or considerably reduced. Side effects not requiring treatment developed in only four instances. Antibody formation no longer occurred with those products available on the market since 2001. Even after repeated injections (up to ten times) there was no evidence for decreased efficacy. CONCLUSION Due to its reliable effect and low rate of side effects, botulinum toxin type A quickly became accepted worldwide for the treatment of neurogenic detrusor hyperactivity and has contributed to a substantial enrichment of the more conservative therapy options. Prospective studies focusing especially on injection site and optimizing the duration of efficacy are desirable.
