Abstract
Intravesical instillation therapy is increasingly recognized as one of the most common clinical treatment strategies for bladder cancer. However, the antitumor efficacy of chemotherapy drugs is still limited due to their rapid clearance by periodic urination. To circumvent this issue, a drug-loaded thin film comprising the self-assembly of tannic acid (TA) and ferric ions (Fe3+) was in situ fabricated on the bladder wall in vivo. As expected, the TA@Fe film with adjustable thickness could effectively prolong the residence time of anticancer drugs in the bladder and realize sustained release of anticancer drugs. Together with the antibacterial properties, the TA@Fe film enabled improved chemotherapeutic efficacy. Moreover, the TA@Fe film caused no adverse effects on bladder function, demonstrating the in vivo biocompatibility. In addition, the T2 contrast effect of Fe3+ was employed to real-time monitor the disassembly of the TA@Fe film and the ensuing drug release process by magnetic resonance imaging. We believe that the TA@Fe-based drug delivery platform with enhanced retention in the bladder would be of great potential for treating various bladder diseases.

Abstract
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are key regulators of synaptic functions. However, their targeted trafficking to synapses after synthesis is poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that multiple motifs mediate α2B-adrenergic receptor transport to the dendritic and post-synaptic compartments in primary hippocampal neurons, with a single leucine residue on the first intracellular loop being specifically involved in synaptic targeting. The N-terminally located tyrosine-serine motif operates differently in neuronal and non-neuronal cells. We further show that the highly conserved dileucine (LL) motif in the C-terminus is required for the dendritic and post-synaptic traffic of all GPCRs studied. The LL motif also directs the export from the endoplasmic reticulum of a chimeric GPCR and confers its transport ability to vesicular stomatitis virus glycoprotein in cell lines. Collectively, these data reveal the intrinsic structural determinants for the synaptic targeting of nascent GPCRs and their cell-type-specific trafficking along the biosynthetic pathways.

Abstract
Recently, biomass-based materials have attracted increasing attention because of their advantages of low cost, environment-friendly and nonpollution. Herein, the feasibility of using corn stalk biomass fiber (CF) and Fe3O4 embedded chitosan (CS) as a novel biomass-based adsorbent (CFS) to remove chloramphenicol (CAPC) from aqueous solution. Structure of CFS was characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and zeta potential techniques. The effects of solution pH, adsorption time and ion strength on the adsorption capacity were examined. Adsorption isotherms obtained from batch experiments were better fitted by Langmuir model compared with Freundlich model, Dubinin–Radushkevich model and Temkin model. Adsorption kinetic data matched well to the pseudo-second order kinetic model. CAPC adsorption was endothermic, spontaneous, and entropy-increasing nature on CFS. In addition, the CFS could be separated by an external magnetic field, recycled, and reused without any significant loss in the adsorption capacity of CAPC. Based on these excellent performances, there is potential that CFS can be considered as a proficient and economically suitable material for the CAPC removal from the water environment.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the prognosis and determine the failure patterns after radiotherapy for low-risk early-stage patients with extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal-type (ENKTCL). Methods: A total of 557 patients from 2000-2015 with low-risk early-stage ENKTCL who received radiotherapy (RT) with or without chemotherapy (CT) from China Lymphoma Collaborative Group were retrospectively reviewed. Among them, 427 patients received combined modality therapy, whereas 130 patients received RT alone. Survivals were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method and compared with Log-rank test. Overall survival (OS) was compared with age and sex-matched general Chinese population using expected survival and standardized mortality ratio (SMR). Cox stepwise regression model was used for multivariate analysis. Results: The 5-year OS and progression-free survival (PFS) were 87.2% and 77.2%. The SMR was 3.59 (P<0.001) at 1 year after treatment, whereas it was 1.50 at 4 years after treatment, without significant difference between ENKTCL group and country-matched general population (P=0.146). Compared with RT alone, CMT did not result in significantly superior 5-year OS (87.0% vs 87.4%, P=0.961) or PFS (76.1% vs 80.7%, P=0.129). Local failure (11.5%, 64/557) and distant failure (10.8%, 60/557) were the main failure modes, while regional failure was rare (2.9%, 16/557). The 5-year locoregional control rate (LRC) was 87.2% for the whole group, with 89.5% for ≥50 Gy versus 73.7% for <50 Gy (P<0.001). Radiotherapy dose was an independent factor affecting LRC(P<0.05). Conclusions: Radiotherapy achieves a favorable prognosis in patients with low-risk early-stage ENKTCL. The incidence of either locoregional or distant failure is low. Radiation dose still is an important prognostic factor for LRC.

Abstract
The rates of ultrafast intersystem crossing in acceptor-bridge-donor molecules centered on Pt(II) acetylides are investigated. Specifically, a Pt(II) trans-acetylide triad NAP--Pt--Ph-CH2-PTZ [1], with acceptor 4-ethynyl-N-octyl-1,8-naphthalimide (NAP) and donor phenothiazine (PTZ), is examined in detail. We have previously shown that optical excitation in [1] leads to a manifold of singlet charge-transfer states, S*, which evolve via a triplet charge-transfer manifold into a triplet state 3NAP centered on the acceptor ligand and partly to a charge-separated state 3CSS (NAP--Pt-PTZ+). A complex cascade of electron transfer processes was observed, but intersystem crossing (ISC) rates were not explicitly resolved due to lack of spin selectivity of most ultrafast spectroscopies. Here we revisit the question of ISC with a combination and complementary analysis of (i) transient absorption, (ii) ultrafast broadband fluorescence upconversion, FLUP, which is only sensitive to emissive states, and (iii) femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy, FSR. Raman resonance conditions allow us to observe S* and 3NAP exclusively by FSR, through vibrations which are pertinent only to these two states. This combination of methods enabled us to extract the intersystem crossing rates that were not previously accessible. Multiple timescales (1.6 ps to ∼20 ps) are associated with the rise of triplet species, which can now be assigned conclusively to multiple ISC pathways from a manifold of hot charge-transfer singlet states. The analysis is consistent with previous transient infrared spectroscopy data. A similar rate of ISC, up to 20 ps, is observed in the trans-acetylide NAP--Pt--Ph [2] which maintains two acetylide groups across the platinum center but lacks a donor unit, whilst removal of one acetylide group in mono-acetylide NAP--Pt-Cl [3] leads to >10-fold deceleration of the intersystem crossing process. Our work provides insight on the intersystem crossing dynamics of the organo-metallic complexes, and identifies a general method based on complementary ultrafast spectroscopies to disentangle complex spin, electronic and vibrational processes following photoexcitation.

Abstract
We used the united-atom scheme to build three types of crystalline structures for octacosane (C28H58) and carried out molecular dynamics simulations to investigate their phase properties. By gradually heating the three polymorphs, we managed to reproduce the sequence of experimentally reported crystalline phases and rotator phases. By studying the system density, molecule morphology, chain tilt angle and cell anisotropy, we hypothesized three mechanisms behind the observed system deformations and phase transformations during the annealing process. Furthermore, our model successfully predicted the melting temperature and heat of fusion. We also reproduced the characteristics of the rotator phases and the liquid phase, validating the transferability of the united-atom scheme among the different condensed phases of octacosane. Our methodology represents an effective and efficient means of numerical study for octacosane and may be used for other members of the n-alkane family.

Abstract
Dietary protein alters circulating amino acid (AAs) levels and higher protein intake (HP) is one means of losing weight. We examined 34 overweight and obese women (57 ± 4 years) during 6 months of energy restriction (7.3 ± 3.8% weight loss) divided into groups consuming either normal protein (NP; 18.6 energy% protein) or HP (24.3 energy% protein). There was a reduction in fasting serum glucogenic AAs (p = 0.015) that also associated with greater weight loss (p < 0.05) in the HP group, but not in the NP group. These findings have implications for nutrient prioritization during energy restriction.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This analysis aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of once-daily lixisenatide add-on treatment to basal insulin in Asian individuals with type 2 diabetes, by baseline body mass index (BMI). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Data from all Asian participants in the placebo-controlled GetGoal-Duo 1, GetGoal-L, and GetGoal-L-C Studies were pooled and categorized according to the following BMI subgroups:<25 kg/m2, 25-<30 kg/m2 and ≥30 kg/m2. Efficacy and safety of lixisenatide versus placebo were evaluated among BMI subgroups. Multivariable regression analyses were also conducted to explore the potential influence of BMI on efficacy outcomes after adjusting for baseline characteristics. RESULTS 555 participants were included (mean age 53.9 years, 52.4% men). No significant differences in treatment effect between the BMI subgroups were observed for the changes from baseline to 24 weeks in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting plasma glucose, postprandial glucose (PPG), PPG excursion, body weight, BMI, and basal insulin dose with lixisenatide, as well as the change in basal insulin dose at study endpoint and the proportion of participants achieving an HbA1c <7% at 24 weeks (all p values for interaction >0.15). In the multivariable regression analysis, participants in the lowest BMI group had a smaller reduction in body weight over the 24-week treatment period relative to the highest BMI group (p=0.023). CONCLUSIONS This post hoc analysis indicates that lixisenatide improved glycemic control regardless of baseline BMI and was well tolerated in Asian individuals unable to achieve their HbA1c target on basal insulin±oral antidiabetic drugs.

Abstract
AIMS/INTRODUCTION The prevalence and pathophysiological background of type 2 diabetes mellitus vary across ethnicities, and can affect treatment responses. Adding lixisenatide to basal insulin (BI) in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients has shown improvements in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and postprandial glycemic (PPG) excursions, without increasing hypoglycemic events. We aim to compare the efficacy of lixisenatide in Asian and white patients inadequately controlled with basal insulin. MATERIALS AND METHODS An individual-level pooled analysis of two multi-national phase III studies, GetGoal-L and GetGoal-L-C, was carried out to assess the efficacy of lixisenatide versus placebo as an add-on treatment to BI ± metformin in Asian and white patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Change in HbA1c, 2-h PPG and PPG excursion were analyzed, along with possible predictors of glycemic control. RESULTS Pooled data showed that baseline characteristics were similar between Asian and white patients with the exception of bodyweight, body mass index and BI dose being higher in white patients. After 24 weeks, lixisenatide reduced HbA1c in both ethnic groups, with no statistically significant difference between the two groups (Asian patients least squares mean difference -0.49, 95% confidence interval -0.68 to - 0.30 and white patients least squares mean difference -0.45, 95% confidence interval -0.63 to - 0.26; P = 0.6287). Similarly, no significant difference was found in 2-h PPG reduction between both groups (least squares mean difference for Asian vs white patients: -3.37 vs -3.93; P = 0.3203). Treatment with lixisenatide contributed to HbA1c reduction of -0.56% after adjustment of baseline HbA1c level in Asian patients, and -0.41% in white patients. CONCLUSIONS Adding lixisenatide to BI significantly reduced HbA1c and 2-h PPG levels in both Asian and white participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus. No differences in treatment effect were observed between the two populations.

Abstract
PURPOSE Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) represents the most common subtype of thyroid cancer (TC). This study was set out to explore the potential effect of CHD1L on PTC and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS We searched for T2DM susceptibility genes through the GWAS database and obtained T2DM-related differentially expressed gene from the GEO database. The expression and clinical data of TC and normal samples were collated from the TCGA database. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was subsequently applied to assess the sensitivity and specificity of the CHD1L for the diagnosis of PTC. The MCP-counter package in R language was then utilized to generate immune cell score to evaluate the relationship between CHD1L expression and immune cells. Then, we performed functional enrichment analysis of co-expressed genes and DEGs to determine significantly enriched GO terms and KEGG to predict the potential functions of CHD1L in PTC samples and T2DM adipose tissue. RESULTS From two genes (ABCB9, CHD1L) were identified to be DEGs (p < 1 * 10-5) that exerted effects on survival (HR > 1, p < 0.05) in PTC and served as T2DM susceptibility genes. The gene expression matrix-based scoring of immunocytes suggested that PTC samples with high and low CHD1L expression presented with significant differences in the tumor microenvironment (TME). The enrichment analysis of CHD1L co-expressed genes and DEGs suggested that CHD1L was involved in multiple pathways to regulate the development of PTC. Among them, Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus infection, salmonella infection and TNF signaling pathways were highlighted as the three most relevant pathways. GSEA analysis, employed to analyze the genome dataset of PTC samples and T2DM adipose tissue presenting with high and low expression groups of CHD1L, suggests that these differential genes are related to chemokine signaling pathway, leukocyte transendothelial migration and TCELL receptor signaling pathway. CONCLUSION CHD1L may potentially serve as an early diagnostic biomarker for PTC, and a target of immunotherapy for PTC and T2DM.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to elucidate the regulatory role of microRNA-324-5p (miRNA-324-5p) in inhibiting inflammatory response of diabetic vessels by regulating CPT1A level, thus alleviating the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). PATIENTS AND METHODS Arterial vessels (splenic artery) and serum exosomes were extracted from 30 T2DM patients and 30 non-T2DM subjects treated in Binzhou People's Hospital from 2015 to 2019. Relative levels of miRNA-324-5p and CPT1A in each subject were detected. Then, VSMCs were induced with high-glucose, followed by detection of inflammatory factor levels. Next, the regulatory effects of miRNA-324-5p and CPT1A on viability, 5-Ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU)-positive ratio, and release of inflammatory factors in VSMCs were determined. Finally, Dual-Luciferase reporter assay was conducted to verify the interaction between miRNA-324-5p and CPT1A. RESULTS The results revealed that compared with non-T2DM subjects, miRNA-324-5p was downregulated in splenic arteries and exosomes in T2DM patients. High-glucose treatment in VSMCs triggered the release of the inflammatory factors. In addition, the overexpression of miRNA-324-5p in VSMCs reduced viability and inflammatory factor levels, and the inhibited trends were partially reversed by overexpression of CPT1A. CPT1A was indicated to be the target gene binding miRNA-324-5p. CONCLUSIONS MiRNA-324-5p exerts an inhibitory effect on T2DM-induced inflammation in blood vessels by negatively regulating CPT1A level and reducing the release of inflammatory factors. MiRNA-324-5p might be a promising therapeutic target for T2DM.

Abstract
The incorporation of nonmetal group dopants into a graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) framework is fabricated by adding a small amount of hexamethylenetetramine during the thermal polymerization process. The material shows an excellent visible-light photocatalytic H2 production performance that is eight times higher than bulk g-C3N4. This outstanding performance is ascribed to the introducing of N-doped carbon, which not only enhances the light absorption and favorsa narrower band gap, but also upshifts the conductionband (CB) potential, resulting in a better reduction ability of electrons. This discovery has potential significancefor the designing of high performance, economic, and environmental friendly photocatalyst for solar energy conversion.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare various models of diffusion-weighted imaging including mono-exponential, bi-exponential, diffusion kurtosis (DK) and fractional-order calculus (FROC) models in diagnosing prostate cancer (PCa) in transition zone (TZ) and distinguish the high-grade PCa [Gleason score (GS) ≥ 7] lesions from the total of low-grade PCa (GS ≤ 6) lesions and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in TZ. METHODS 80 Patients with 103 lesions were included in this study. Nine metrics [including apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) derived from mono-exponential model, slow diffusion coefficient (Ds), fast diffusion coefficient (Df),, and f (the fraction of fast diffusion) from bi-exponential model; mean diffusivity (MD) and mean kurtosis (MK) from DK model; diffusion coefficient (D), fractional-order derivative in space (β), and spatial metric (μ) from FROC model] were calculated. Comparisons between BPH and PCa lesions as well as between clinically significant PCa (CsPCa) (GS ≥ 7, n = 31) and clinically insignificant lesions (Cins) (GS ≤ 6 and BPH, n = 72) of these metrics were conducted. Mann-Whitney U-test and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis were used for statistical evaluations. RESULTS The areas under the ROC curve (AUC) values of β derived from FROC model were 0.778 and 0.853 in differentiating PCa from BPH and in differentiating CS (GS ≥ 7) from Cins (GS ≤ 6 and BPH), both were the highest compared to other metrics. The AUC value of β was significantly higher than that of ADC (P = 0.009) in differentiating CS from Cins, while the differentiation between BPH and PCa did not reach the statistical significance when comparing with ADC (P = 0.089). CONCLUSION Although no significant difference was found in distinguishing PCa from BPH, the metric β derived from FROC model was superior to other diffusion metrics in differentiation between CS and Cins in TZ.

Abstract
Although β-arrestins (ARRBs) regulate diverse physiological and pathophysiological processes, their functions and regulation in Parkinson's disease (PD) remain poorly defined. In this study, we show that the expression of β-arrestin 1 (ARRB1) and β-arrestin 2 (ARRB2) is reciprocally regulated in PD mouse models, particularly in microglia. ARRB1 ablation ameliorates, whereas ARRB2 knockout aggravates, the pathological features of PD, including dopaminergic neuron loss, neuroinflammation and microglia activation in vivo, and microglia-mediated neuron damage in vitro. We also demonstrate that ARRB1 and ARRB2 produce adverse effects on inflammation and activation of the inflammatory STAT1 and NF-κB pathways in primary cultures of microglia and macrophages and that two ARRBs competitively interact with the activated form of p65, a component of the NF-κB pathway. We further find that ARRB1 and ARRB2 differentially regulate the expression of nitrogen permease regulator-like 3 (Nprl3), a functionally poorly characterized protein, as revealed by RNA sequencing, and that in the gain- and loss-of-function studies, Nprl3 mediates the functions of both ARRBs in microglia inflammatory responses. Collectively, these data demonstrate that two closely related ARRBs exert opposite functions in microglia-mediated inflammation and the pathogenesis of PD which are mediated at least in part through Nprl3 and provide novel insights into the understanding of the functional divergence of ARRBs in PD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To establish the prognostic nomogram for locally advanced prostate cancer (LAPC) patients treated by radical prostatectomy (RP) based on clinical and multiparametric-MRI (mp-MRI) metrics. METHODS One hundred and twenty-one patients diagnosed with LAPC were included in this study. They were all examined by mp-MRI within one week before surgery and treated by RP (36 with RP alone, 48 with neoadjuvant hormonal therapy (NHT) and 37 with neoadjuvant chemohormonal therapy (NCHT)). The biochemical progression-free survival (bPFS) was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method. Univariate and multivariate analysis were used to determine prognostic factors that were related with bPFS. The prognostic nomogram was established by factors that were significant in multivariate analyses. RESULTS The median bPFS had significant difference in the subgroup of treatment (RP alone: 2 [0.00-5.04] vs. NHT: 9.3 [6.746-11.854] vs. NCHT: 11.17 [0.000-25.075] months [Log rank p < .001]), the subgroup of hyperintensity within prostate in DWI (negative: 15.97 [11.202-20.731] vs. positive: 5.2 [2.952-7.448] months [Log rank p < .001]) and the subgroup of pelvic lymph node metastasis (negative: 10.2 [8.404-11.996] vs. unilateral: 4.43 [0.000-11.086] vs. Bilateral: 1.83 [0.636~3.031] [Log rank p < .001]). The method of treatment (hazards ratio [HR], 0.566; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.356-0.899; p = .016), hyperintensity within prostate in DWI (HR, 2.539; 95% CI, 1.349-4.779; p = .004) and the metastasis burden of pelvic lymph node (HR, 2.492; 95% CI, 1.645-3.777; p < .001) were identified as independent predictors with significance in multivariable Cox regression analysis. The nomogram was established based on these three factors. CONCLUSION We established a nomogram based on three significant prognosis factors including the neoadjuvant therapeutic schedule, hyperintensity within prostate in DWI and the metastasis burden of pelvic lymph nodes, which were associated with the clinical outcomes in LAPC patients after surgery.

Abstract
Among the various chemicals that are commonly used as pesticides,
organophosphates (OPs), and to a lesser extent, carbamates, are most frequently
associated with adverse long-term neurological consequences. OPs and the
carbamate, pyridostigmine, used as a prophylactic drug against potential nerve
agent attacks, have also been implicated in Gulf War Illness (GWI), which is
often characterized by chronic neurological symptoms. While most OP- and
carbamate-based pesticides, and pyridostigmine are relatively potent
acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEIs), this toxicological mechanism is
inadequate to explain their long-term health effects, especially when no signs
of acute cholinergic toxicity are exhibited. Our previous work suggests that a
potential mechanism of the long-term neurological deficits associated with OPs
is impairment of axonal transport (AXT); however, we had not previously
evaluated carbamates for this effect. Here we thus evaluated the carbamate,
physostigmine (PHY), a highly potent AChEI, on AXT using an in
vitro neuronal live imaging assay that we have previously found to
be very sensitive to OP-related deficits in AXT. We first evaluated the OP,
diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP) (concentration range 0.001-10.0 µM) as a
reference compound that we found previously to impair AXT and subsequently
evaluated PHY (concentration range 0.01-100 nM). As expected, DFP impaired AXT
in a concentration-dependent manner, replicating our previously published
results. In contrast, none of the concentrations of PHY (including
concentrations well above the threshold for impairing AChE) impaired AXT. These
data suggest that the long-term neurological deficits associated with some
carbamates are not likely due to acute impairments of AXT.

Abstract
After activation of G protein-coupled receptors, G protein βγ dimers may translocate from the plasma membrane to the Golgi apparatus (GA). We recently report that this translocation activates extracellular signal-regulated protein kinases 1 and 2 (ERK1/2) via PI3Kγ; however, how Gβγ-PI3Kγ activates the ERK1/2 pathway is unclear. Here, we demonstrate that chemokine receptor CXCR4 activates ADP-ribosylation factor 1 (ARF1), a small GTPase important for vesicle-mediated membrane trafficking. This activation is blocked by CRISPR-Cas9-mediated knockout of the GA-translocating Gγ9 subunit. Inducible targeting of different Gβγ dimers to the GA can directly activate ARF1. CXCR4 activation and constitutive Gβγ recruitment to the GA also enhance ARF1 translocation to the GA. We further demonstrate that pharmacological inhibition and CRISPR-Cas9-mediated knockout of PI3Kγ markedly inhibit CXCR4-mediated and Gβγ translocation-mediated ARF1 activation. We also show that depletion of ARF1 by siRNA and CRISPR-Cas9 and inhibition of GA-localized ARF1 activation abolish ERK1/2 activation by CXCR4 and Gβγ translocation to the GA and suppress prostate cancer PC3 cell migration and invasion. Collectively, our data reveal a novel function for Gβγ translocation to the GA to activate ARF1 and identify GA-localized ARF1 as an effector acting downstream of Gβγ-PI3Kγ to spatiotemporally regulate G protein-coupled receptor signaling to mitogen-activated protein kinases.

Abstract
Accurate segmentation of the jaw (i.e., mandible and maxilla) and the teeth in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans is essential for orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. Although various (semi)automated methods have been proposed to segment the jaw or the teeth, there is still a lack of fully automated segmentation methods that can simultaneously segment both anatomic structures in CBCT scans (i.e., multiclass segmentation). In this study, we aimed to train and validate a mixed-scale dense (MS-D) convolutional neural network for multiclass segmentation of the jaw, the teeth, and the background in CBCT scans. Thirty CBCT scans were obtained from patients who had undergone orthodontic treatment. Gold standard segmentation labels were manually created by 4 dentists. As a benchmark, we also evaluated MS-D networks that segmented the jaw or the teeth (i.e., binary segmentation). All segmented CBCT scans were converted to virtual 3-dimensional (3D) models. The segmentation performance of all trained MS-D networks was assessed by the Dice similarity coefficient and surface deviation. The CBCT scans segmented by the MS-D network demonstrated a large overlap with the gold standard segmentations (Dice similarity coefficient: 0.934 ± 0.019, jaw; 0.945 ± 0.021, teeth). The MS-D network–based 3D models of the jaw and the teeth showed minor surface deviations when compared with the corresponding gold standard 3D models (0.390 ± 0.093 mm, jaw; 0.204 ± 0.061 mm, teeth). The MS-D network took approximately 25 s to segment 1 CBCT scan, whereas manual segmentation took about 5 h. This study showed that multiclass segmentation of jaw and teeth was accurate and its performance was comparable to binary segmentation. The MS-D network trained for multiclass segmentation would therefore make patient-specific orthodontic treatment more feasible by strongly reducing the time required to segment multiple anatomic structures in CBCT scans.
