Abstract
International advocacy of patient-centred healthcare delivery has led to emphasis on the (re)design and evaluation of healthcare processes and outcomes from a patient perspective. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) have significant potential to inform such attempts. However there is limited understanding of the processes by which this can be achieved. This exploratory study followed attempts to utilise two different PROMs measures to support service quality improvement in clinical genetics. PROMs used were the Genetic Counseling Outcome Scale (GCOS-24), a well-validated clinical genetics-specific PROM and Euroqol (EQ-5D), a generic PROM favoured by the UK National Institute for Health and Excellence (NICE). Both of these PROMs enable pre/post intervention comparison. A service audit tool was also used, premised on a patient-reported experience measure. In addition, the study draws on interviews with clinical staff to identify challenges associated with the use of PROMs (response rate, data collection, analysis). Benefits are also explored and include the provision of insight into patients' needs; complementing clinical judgement; identification of needs being met, evidencing the benefit of services provided; prompting consideration of areas requiring attention; and encouraging professional development.

Abstract
US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)‐approved diagnostic assays play an increasingly common role in managing patients to prolong lifespan while also enhancing quality of life. Diagnostic assays can be essential for the safe and effective use of therapeutics (companion diagnostic), or may inform on improving the benefit/risk ratio without restricting drug access (complementary diagnostic). This tutorial reviews strategic considerations for drug and assay development resulting in FDA‐approved companion or complementary diagnostic status.

Abstract
Mapping a set of categorical values to different colors is an elementary technique in data visualization. Users of visualization software routinely rely on the default colormaps provided by a system, or colormaps suggested by software such as ColorBrewer. In practice, users often have to select a set of colors in a semantically meaningful way (e.g., based on conventions, color metaphors, and logological associations), and consequently would like to ensure their perceptual differentiation is optimized. In this paper, we present an algorithmic approach for maximizing the perceptual distances among a set of given colors. We address two technical problems in optimization, i.e., (i) the phenomena of local maxima that halt the optimization too soon, and (ii) the arbitrary reassignment of colors that leads to the loss of the original semantic association. We paid particular attention to different types of constraints that users may wish to impose during the optimization process. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this work, we tested this technique in two case studies. To reach out to a wider range of users, we also developed a web application called Colourmap Hospital.

Abstract
A combined IR and visible camera system [G. A. Wurden et al., "A high resolution IR/visible imaging system for the W7-X limiter," Rev. Sci. Instrum. (these proceedings)] and a filterscope system [R. J. Colchin et al., Rev. Sci. Instrum. 74, 2068 (2003)] were implemented together to obtain spectroscopic data of limiter and first wall recycling and impurity sources during Wendelstein 7-X startup plasmas. Both systems together provided excellent temporal and spatial spectroscopic resolution of limiter 3. Narrowband interference filters in front of the camera yielded C-III and Hα photon flux, and the filterscope system provided Hα, Hβ, He-I, He-II, C-II, and visible bremsstrahlung data. The filterscopes made additional measurements of several points on the W7-X vacuum vessel to yield wall recycling fluxes. The resulting photon flux from both the visible camera and filterscopes can then be compared to an EMC3-EIRENE synthetic diagnostic [H. Frerichs et al., "Synthetic plasma edge diagnostics for EMC3-EIRENE, highlighted for Wendelstein 7-X," Rev. Sci. Instrum. (these proceedings)] to infer both a limiter particle flux and wall particle flux, both of which will ultimately be used to infer the complete particle balance and particle confinement time τP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Arthroscopy is the established 'gold standard' diagnostic investigation for detection of shoulder disorders. We aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy of arthroscopy with magnetic resonance arthrography (MRA) for detection of shoulder disorders. METHODS Patients who underwent arthroscopy by a single surgeon and preoperative MRA between February 2011 and March 2012 for shoulder instability were identified. MRAs were reported by experienced musculoskeletal radiologists. Labral tears, anterior labral tears, superior labral anterior posterior (SLAP) lesions, posterior labral tears, rotator-cuff tears (RCTs), osteoarthritis, loose bodies and Hill-Sachs lesions were identified. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value, positive likelihood ratio and negative likelihood ratio were calculated. RESULTS A total of 194 patients were identified. The sensitivity and specificity for anterior labral tears was 0.60 and 0.92, SLAP lesions was 0.75 and 0.81, posterior labral tears was 0.57 and 0.96, any labral tear was 0.87 and 0.76, Hill-Sachs lesions was 0.91 and 0.91, RCTs was 0.71 and 0.86, osteoarthritis was 0.72 and 0.95, and loose bodies was 0.22 and 0.96, respectively. The positive predictive value and negative predictive value for anterior labral tears were 0.88 and 0.71, SLAP lesions was 0.64 and 0.88, posterior labral tears was 0.74 and 0.45, any labral tear was 0.89 and 0.71, Hill-Sachs lesions was 0.66 and 0.98, RCTs was 0.47 and 0.95, osteoarthritis was 0.70 and 0.95, and loose bodies was 0.27 and 0.95, respectively. CONCLUSIONS MRA has high diagnostic accuracy for labral tears and Hill-Sachs lesions, but whether MRA should be the first-line imaging modality is controversial.
