Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of dietary Met supplementation on the growth performance, carcass characteristics, meat quality, and muscular antioxidant capacity and myogenic gene expression in low birth weight (LBW) pigs. Thirty normal birth weight (NBW) and 60 LBW female piglets were selected at birth. In each litter, after weaning, 1 of the LBW piglets (LBW-CON group) and 1 of the NBW piglets (NBW-CON group) were fed the basal diets and 1 LBW littermate was fed the basal diet supplemented with Met (LBW-MET group). Thus, all pigs were distributed into groups of 3 treatments × 6 replicates (pens) × 5 piglets per replicate up to 180 d of age. Compared with NBW-CON pigs, LBW-CON pigs had decreased ADG ( = 0.004) and ADFI ( < 0.001) during the postweaning period and greater backfat thickness ( = 0.015) at slaughter. In addition, LBW-CON pigs exhibited compromised meat quality, as evidenced by a greater drip loss at 24 h postmortem( = 0.037) and a lower pH at 45 min postmortem ntents of malondialdehyde (MDA; = 0.046) and protein carbonyl ( = 0.028) in the LM. The LBW pigs fed the Met-supplemented diets had a greater amount of reduced glutathione (GSH; = 0.009) but a lower level of MDA ( = 0.015) in the LM compared with the LBW-CON pigs. Methionine supplementation increased the pH at 24 h postmortem (pH) value ( = 0.004) but reduced the drip loss at both 24 ( = 0.016) and 48 h ( = 0.005) postmortem of LBW-MET pigs in comparison with the LBW-CON pigs. The Met-supplemented diets increased the -adenosyl-methionine content ( = 0.006), DNA methyltransferase activity ( = 0.007), and CpG methylation levels of the sites +27 ( = 0.008) and +160 ( = 0.009) of myostatin (MSTN) exon 1 but decreased the mRNA expression of MSTN ( = 0.011) in the LM of the LBW-MET group compared with the LM of the LBW-CON group. Additionally, when compared with the LBW-CON group, the area of LM ( = 0.037) was significantly increased in the LBW-MET group, in parallel with the upregulated mRNA abundance of myogenin ( = 0.025), myocyte enhancer factor 2A ( = 0.036), and myocyte enhancer factor 2D ( = 0.015). In conclusion, Met supplementation increases pH and decreases drip loss in the LM of LBW-MET pigs, along with a greater GSH content but a lower MDA accumulation. Also, the LBW-MET pigs showed a greater LM area, which may be associated with the improved expression of myogenic genes.

Abstract
Studies have found that a dietary supplement of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens improved the growth performance, increased the nutrient digestibility of hosts and modulated the intestinal microflora. A total of 360 1-day-old Ross broilers were randomly divided into three treatments: a control group with a basal diet, an antibiotic group with a basal diet and added colistin sulphate, and a probiotics group with a basal diet and added Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. The HiSeq high-throughput sequencing analysis of 16S rRNA was used to investigate the differences in birds' caecal microflora, and metabolomics was used to analyse changes in caecal metabolites. Results showed that the supplementation of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens significantly improved the BW and ADG compared with the control birds. Results of sequencing indicated that (i) 645, 670, 596 unique operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were found in birds supplemented with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens on day 7, 21 and 42, separately, (ii) due to the diversity and relative abundance of the birds' caecal microflora, the OTUs of the caecal microflora clustered according to age and treatment, except on day 42, (iii) among the six predominate families (Ruminococcaceae, Lachnospiraceae, Enterobacteriaceae, Erysipelotrichaceae, Lactobacillaceae and Rikenellaceae), the supplementation of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens significantly increased Enterobacteriaceae on day 42, (iv) Bacillus amyloliquefaciens increased the relative abundance of Faecalibacterium and Ruminococcus on day 21, increased the Faecalibacterium and Blautia and decreased the Ruminococcus on day 42. The metabolomics of caecal metabolites showed that the dietary Bacillus amyloliquefaciens changed the caecal metabolites involved of amino acid metabolism and glyceride metabolism, and the antibiotics changed the caecal metabolites that were related to carbohydrates and amino acid metabolism on day 21.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the differences in cognitive function and behavioral and psychological symptoms between patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD). Methods: Thirty-six AD patients and 20 bvFTD patients at mild-to-moderate stage, who were biomarker-confirmed by positron emission tomography (PET), were assessed with a neuropsychological battery and neuropsychiatry inventory (NPI). Cognitive domains, including memory, language, information processing speed and executive function, and behavioral and psychological symptoms were assessed and compared. Results: AD patients had lower scores in immediate recall, delayed recall and recognition than bvFTD patients (all P<0.05); while bvFTD patients had poorer performance in language and executive function than AD patients (all P<0.05). The NPI total score was significantly higher in patients with bvFTD compared with patients with AD (17.5±5.7 vs 9.3±3.5, P<0.05). In respect to the 12 items of NPI, the incidence of agitation and irritability was higher in AD group than in bvFTD group (72.2% vs 35.0%, 55.6% vs 20.0%, all P<0.05); while the incidence of apathy, disinhibition, euphoria, aberrant motor behavior and appetite/eating was higher in bvFTD group than in AD group (65.0% vs 33.3%, 80.0% vs 5.5%, 70.0% vs 5.6%, 40.0% vs 11.1%, 50.0% vs 5.6%, all P<0.05). Conclusion: Comprehensive neuropsychological assessment and evaluation of behavioral and psychological symptoms of patients with dementia are helpful in distinguishing AD from bvFTD.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of the new investigational drug pegylated interferon α-2b (Peg-IFN-α-2b) (Y shape, 40 kD) injection (180 µg/week) combined with ribavirin in the treatment of patients with genotype 1/6 chronic hepatitis C (CHC), with standard-dose Peg-IFN-α-2a combined with ribavirin as a positive control. Methods: A multicenter, randomized, open-label, and positive-controlled phase III clinical trial was performed. Eligible patients with genotype 1/6 CHC were screened out and randomly divided into Peg-IFN-α-2b(Y shape, 40kD) group and Peg-IFN-α-2a group at a ratio of 2:1. The patients in both groups were given oral ribavirin for 48 weeks in addition and then followed up for 24 weeks after drug withdrawal. Abbott Real Time HCV Genotype II was used to determine HCV genotype, and Cobas TaqMan quantitative real-time PCR was used to measure HCV RNA level at 0, 4, 12, 24, 48, and 72 weeks. Adverse events were recorded in detail. The primary efficacy endpoint was sustained virological response (SVR), and a non-inferiority test was also performed. Results: A total of 561 patients with genotype 1/6 CHC were enrolled, among whom 529 received treatment; 90.9% of these patients had genotype 1 CHC. The data of the full analysis set showed that SVR rate was 69.80% (95% CI 65.00%-74.60%) in the trial group and 74.16% (95% CI 67.73%-80.59%) in the control group (P = 0.297 0). The data of the per protocol set (PPS) showed that SVR rate was 80.63% (95% CI 76.04%-85.23%) in the trial group and 81.33% (95% CI 75.10%-87.57%) in the control group (P = 0.849 8), and the 95% CI of rate difference conformed to the non-inferiority standard. The analysis of the PPS population showed that of all subjects, 47.9% achieved rapid virologic response, with a positive predictive value of 93.8%. The incidence rate of adverse events was 96.30% in the trial group and 94.94% in the control group, and the incidence rate of serious adverse events was 5.13% in the trail group and 5.06% in the control group. Conclusion: In the regimen of Peg-IFN-α combined with ribavirin for the treatment of genotype 1/6 CHC, the new investigational drug Peg-IFN-α-2b(Y shape, 40 kD) has comparable clinical effect and safety to the control drug Peg-IFN-α-2a.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the grading system for lymph vessel tumor emboli and its prognostic value in patients with invasive carcinomas of no special type (ICNST) of the breast. Methods: Clinical data of 466patients with ICNST were collected from January 2006 to December 2008 in the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University. The expression levels of D2-40, estrogen receptor(ER), progesterone receptor(PR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) were analyzed using immunohistochemical staining. Grades for lymph vessel tumoremboli were classified based on the number of mitotic and apoptotic figures in tumor cells under a high-power field. Correlation analysis was performed using Spearman rank correlation test. Kaplan-meier curves and Log-rank tests were used to analyze the survival rate. Multivariate Cox proportional hazard model was used to analyze the prognostic factors. Results: Among the 466 patients, grades for lymph vessel tumor emboli were categorized as follows: 280 cases were grade 0 (60.1%); 112 cases were grade 1 (24.0%); 58 cases were grade 2 (12.5%); 16 cases were grade 3 (3.4%). Correlation analyses showed that lymph vessel tumor emboli grading system was positively correlated with lymph node metastasis (r=0.365, P<0.001). Kaplan-Meier univariant analysis showed that histological grading, lymph vessel tumor emboli grading system, lymph node metastasis, the expression levels of ER, PR and HER-2 and molecular typing were associated with prognosis of patients (P<0.05 for all). Multivariate analysis of Cox proportional hazard model showed that lymph vessel tumor emboli grading system and lymph node metastasis were independent prognostic factors in patients with ICNST(P<0.05 for all). Conclusion: Grading system for lymph vessel tumor emboli canpredict the clinical outcome of patients with ICNST.

Abstract
The present study was conducted to investigate the influence of dietary supplementation with different levels of fermented Ginkgo biloba leaves (FGBL) on growth performance, slaughter performance, meat quality, antioxidant enzyme capacity, and free radical scavenging activities of muscles in broiler chickens. A total of 648 one-d-old broiler chickens were randomly allocated into six dietary treatments, including control group (CON group: basal diet), FGBL1, FGBL2, FGBL3, FGBL4, and FGBL5 groups (basal diet containing 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, and 5.5 g/kg FGBL, respectively). Body weight gain and feed intake were recorded at 1, 21, and 42 d. At 42 d, 2 birds from each replicate were slaughtered. The results indicated that 3.5 g/kg FGBL diet significantly increased (P < 0.05) ADFI and ADG in 1 to 42 d and ADFI in 22 to 42 d compared with the CON group. In 1 to 21 d, 4.5 g/kg FGBL diet improved (P < 0.05) ADFI and ADG. With dietary FGBL increasing, the feed: gain ratio (F/G) in 1 to 21 d was significantly decreased (P < 0.05). However, birds fed with 5.5 g/kg FGBL had a higher (P < 0.05) F/G compared with other groups in 22 to 42 d and 1 to 42 d. In addition, FGBL3 and FGBL4 showed lower (P < 0.05) L* value in breast muscle, cooking loss in thigh muscle and lower 24 h and 48 h drip loss in both breast and thigh muscles than those of other groups. Furthermore, birds in the FGBL3 and FGBL4 groups increased (P < 0.05) the activity of total superoxide dismutase and total antioxidant capability in muscles, and the scavenging activities of 2,2΄-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic) acid radical, OH•, and O2•- in thigh muscle, decreased (P < 0.05) malondialdehyde concentration in thigh muscle, as compared to the CON group. In conclusion, FGBL had the potential to improve the growth performance, meat quality and antioxidant status of broiler chickens. The optimal dose in the present study of FGBL in broiler diets was from 3.5 to 4.5 g/kg.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the significance of extranodal extension of axillary lymph nodes (ALN-ENE) metastases in post-operative primary invasive breast carcinoma of non-specific type. Methods: Six hundred and thirty-eight invasive breast cancer cases confirmed by postoperative pathological examination were collected from January 2006 to December 2008. The relationship of lymph node metastases and ALN-ENE with other lymph node parameters and patient outcome was analyzed. Results: Among 638 cases, 263 (41.2%) showed axillary lymph node metastases. ALN-ENE was present in 91 cases (36.4%). The rate of ALN-ENE increased with pT stage and tumor size. Five-year recurrence-free survival rate (RFS) and 5-year overall survival rate (OS) was 86.6% and 91.2% respectively for ALN-ENE positive group, and both were lower than ALN-ENE negative group (P<0.01). One hundred and forty-nine patients with 1 to 3 positive lymph nodes had a 5-year RFS of 91.9%, and 5-year OS of 92.3%, less than ALN-ENE negative group (P<0.01). Univariate analysis showed ALN-ENE positively correlated with lymph node metastasis. Multivariate analysis suggested that ENE was associated with increased recurrence risk and shortened recurrence-free and overall survival, especially in patients with 1 to 3 positive lymph nodes; and it was an independent prognostic factor (P<0.01). Conclusions: The number of lymph nodes metastases is an important predictor of survival in breast cancer patients. ALN-ENE is an independent risk indicator for recurrence and overall survival. For patients with 1 to 3 metastatic axillary lymph nodes, ALN-ENE could alter the patient's clinical pathologic staging, and therefore it is an independent prognostic factor.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the causes of 30-day unplanned revision surgery following one-stage posterior vertebral column resection (PVCR) for severe spinal deformity and the methods of prevention and management. Methods: A total of 112 severe deformity patients underwent one-stage PVCR for surgical treatment in the 306(th) Hospital of People's Liberation Army from May 2010 to December 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. Six patients required reoperation within 30 days after PVCR, including 2 males and 4 females with average age of 21 years (ranging from 12 to 38 years). Four cases were congenital kyphoscoliosis, 1 was post-laminectomy kyphoscoliosis and 1 was post-tuberculous angular kyphosis. Three cases associated with preoperative neurologic deficit (Frankel C in 1 patient and D in 2 patients). The causes, management and outcomes of unplanned revision surgery within 30 days after PVCR were recorded. Results: The total incidence of unplanned revision surgery within 30 days following PVCR was 5.4% (6/112). There was 1 case due to cerebrospinal fluid leak, 5 cases with varying degrees of new neurologic deficits, the causes were as followed: dural buckling in 1 case, residual bone compression in 1 case, epidural hematoma compression in 2 cases, spinal subdural hematoma in 1 case. All the 6 cases underwent surgical exploration again, including further dural repair, decompression and hematoma clearance. After unplanned reoperation, 6 cases recovered completely. The average follow-up time after surgery was 30.8 months (ranging from 10 to 60 months). The major curve at coronal plane was improved from preoperative 87.7° to 34.2°, with a mean correction of 61.0% at final follow-up; the sagittal kyphosis curve was improved from preoperative 119.5° to 45.5°, with a mean correction of 61.9% at final follow-up. Two patients' neurological status improved from Frankel D to Frankel E, one patient's neurological status improved from Frankel C to Frankel E. Conclusions: One-stage PVCR could be an effective method for treatment of severe spinal deformity. The causes of 30-day unplanned reoperation after PVCR are as followed: cerebrospinal fluid leak, dural buckling, residual bone compression and hematoma compression. Timely surgical exploration can gain good clinical outcomes.

Abstract
To investigate the effects of carbomer eye drops (CED) during long-time wearing of overnight orthokeratology lens of adolescents with myopia, 260 teenagers with myopia treated in the Henan Provincial Peoples Hospital from June 2012 to August 2014 and followed-up for more than 2 years were enrolled. All the patients underwent regular fitting of orthokeratology lens. They were divided into a CED (Vidisic) group (130 cases, 260 eyes treated with CED) and rewetting drops (RD) (Baushe and Lomb) group (130 cases, 260 eyes treated with RD). The effects in the two groups were observed. The incidence of corneal epithelial defects one day, one week and one month after treatment of the CED group was lower than that of the RD group, and the difference was statistically significant (P less than 0.05); the tear break up time (TBUT) of the CED group was higher than that of the RD group at different time points, and the difference had statistical significance (P less than 0.05); the difference of the value of Schirmer I test between the two groups had no statistical significance (P>0.05). It is concluded that carbomer eye drops can stabilize tear film and protect and repair corneal epithelium during the wearing of orthokeratology lens.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate vitamin D status in middle-aged subjects in Beijing and explore the correlation between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D[25(OH)D] levels and dyslipidemia. METHODS A total of 448 individuals over 40 years old were enrolled in the cross-sectional survey. The general information, blood biochemical and lipid profiles and serum 25(OH)D levels were collected. The subjects were either divided into two groups (the dyslipidemia group and the non-dyslipidemia group) based on the lipid levels, or four groups according to quartiles of 25(OH)D levels. The association between 25(OH)D levels and dyslipidemia risk was analyzed by a logistic regression analysis. RESULTS A total of 234 cases were in dyslipidemia group, which accounted for 52.23% of the subjects. The serum 25(OH)D levels were significantly lower in the dyslipidemia group than in the non-dyslipidemia group both in men and in women (all P<0.05). The median serum 25(OH)D level in the total subjects was 15.7 (12.2, 20.1)μg/L with 91.1% subjects of serum 25(OH)D level<30 μg/L. The proportion of subjects with dyslipidemia (high TC, high TG, high LDL-C, or low HDL-C) increased with the decrease of 25(OH)D level quartiles (P<0.05). After adjustment of confounding factors, the logistic regression analysis showed that subjects in the lowest 25(OH) D quartile group had 143% higher risks for dyslipidemia than those in the highest quartile group. CONCLUSION These findings indicate that 25(OH)D insufficiency is highly prevalent among middle-aged individuals and it may be associated with the risk of dyslipidemia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To observe the changes in pelvic balance after posterior reduction of balanced L5-S1 Ⅲ-grade isthmic spondylolisthesis in adults. METHODS A total of 18 adult patients with balanced L5-S1 Ⅲ-grade isthmic spondylolisthesis were retrospectively studied after successful treatment by posterior decompression, reduction and L5-S1 interbody fusion in Department of Orthopedic Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from October 2009 to October 2014.L5-S1 of eight patients were fixed with pedical strews, while others were fixed upgrade to L4.Spino-pelvic parameters: slipping percentage (SP), spondy slip angle (SSA), pelvic incidence (PI), sacral slope (SS), pelvic tilt (PT) and lumbar lordosis (LL) were measured on standing lateral view radiograms. The changes in pelvic balance were analyzed after posterior reduction. RESULTS All the patients experienced significant changes in SP and SSA with (42.4%±8.3)% and (9.8±4.9)°improved significantly while no significant differences were recorded in PI, PT, SS and LL. PI, PT, SS and LL passed from an average(61.1±6.2)°, (16.2±4.5)°, (44.8±2.9)°, (51.3±9.3)°preoperatively to (61.4±6.1)°, (14.9±4.0)°, (46.5±3.0)°, (48.6±7.0)°respectively.According to K-means cluster analysis, pelvic balance improved postoperatively. No significant correlation was found for ΔPT, ΔSS with ΔSP, while ΔPT and ΔSS had a significant correlation with ΔSSA (correlation coefficient -0.77 and 0.82 respectively). CONCLUSION Posterior SSA reduction in adults with balanced L5-S1 Ⅲ-grade isthmic spondylolisthesis can improve the former pelvic balance.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the nodal properties and reorganization of whole-brain functional network in subjects with severe right-sided SNHL. METHODS From June 2012 to June 2013, a total of 19 patients with severe right-sided SNHL were collected from Zhongda Hospital or the recruitment advertising along with 31 healthy controls.Based on the graph-theoretical analysis, the whole-brain functional networks were constructed using the BOLD-fMRI data of all subjects. Two sample two-tailed t-tests were used to investigate the differences between two groups in nodal metrics, such as node degree, node betweenness, node global efficiency and node local efficiency. All metrics were corrected by multiple comparisons.Partial correlation analysis was used to estimate the relationship between the significant metrics and the duration or severity of hearing loss. RESULTS The right-sided SNHL showed significantly increased betweenness centrality in left supramarginal gyrus and right fusiform. However, other nodal parameters showed no statistical difference.Besides, patients exhibited no significant association between the altered metrics and clinical variables. CONCLUSION Alterations of local topological properties may underlie cerebral cross-modal plastic reorganization in visual or speech-related regions in severe right-sided SNHL patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In order to detect the in vitro synergistic effect of 4 drugs-pasiniazid (PA), moxifloxacin, rifabutin and rifapentini on multidrug-resistant mycobacterium tuberculosis (MDR-MTB) and extensively drug-resistant mycobacterium tuberculosis(XDR-MTB), which were core drugs of"The program of retreatment research of tuberculosis". METHOD The checkerboard method was used to detect the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of antituberculosis drug combination schemes (moxifloxacin-PA, moxifloxacin-PA-rifabutin and moxifloxacin-PA-rifapentini) to 40 strains of clinical drug resistant MTB(20 strains of MDR-MTB and 20 XDR-MTB) and the standard strain H37Rv, by calculating the fractional inhibitory concentration index of joint action in vitro to judge the combined effect, with fractional inhibitory concentration index(FICI)≤0.5 and FICI≤0.75 as the basis of 2 drugs and 3 drugs showing synergy. RESULTS The FICI of moxifloxacin-PA scheme for DR-MTB was 0.125 to 1.000, only 5 strains with a FICI ≤0.5, showing synergistic effect. The FICI of moxifloxacin-Pa-rifabutin scheme with 20 strains of MDR-MTB ranged from 0.310 to 1.260, 10 strains with a FICI≤0.75, showing synergistic effect. The FICI of moxifloxacin-PA-rifabutin scheme with 20 strains of XDR-MTB ranged from 0.215 to 1.250, 11 strains with a FICI≤0.75, showing synergistic effect. The FICI of moxifloxacin-PA-rifapentini scheme with 20 strains of MDR-MTB ranged from 0.150 to 0.780, 19 strains with a FICI≤0.75, showing synergistic effect. The FICI of moxifloxacin-PA-rifapentini scheme with 20 strains of XDR-MTB ranged from 0.200 to 1.280, 16 strains with a FICI≤0.75, showing synergistic effect. CONCLUSIONS The synergistic effect of moxifloxacin-PA scheme was poor, but showing better synergy when further combined with rifabutin or rifapentini. Rifabutin showed better effect than rifapentini, but the synergistic effect of moxifloxacin-PA-rifabutin combination scheme was poor than that of moxifloxacin-PA-rifapentini combination scheme.

Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of oridonin (ORI) on growth performance and antioxidant capacity in broiler chickens that were repeatedly challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). A total of 384 one-day-old male Arbor Acre broiler chickens were randomly assigned to 8 treatments with 6 replicate cages per treatment and 8 birds per replicate. There were 4 dietary treatments: the control group (birds fed the basal diet), the ORI 50 group, the ORI 80 group, and the ORI 100 group (the basal diet supplemented with 50, 80, and 100 mg/kg oridonin, respectively). Broilers were intraperitoneally injected with either 250 μg/kg BW LPS or an equivalent amount of sterile saline at 16, 18, and 20 d of age. LPS decreased the average daily weight gain (ADG), the average daily feed intake (ADFI), and the feed conversion ratio (FCR) of broiler chickens (P < 0.05); oridonin supplementation had no effects on performance whether before or after LPS injection (P > 0.05). LPS stimulation increased the relative weight of the spleen and bursa (P < 0.05); oridonin inclusion markedly attenuated the increased spleen index (P < 0.05). Additionally, the LPS-induced increases in the concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA) and decreases in activities of total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and catalase (CAT) were dramatically attenuated by oridonin in both the serum and liver (P < 0.05). Furthermore, LPS down-regulated the mRNA expressions of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), copper and zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD), manganese superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx1), and CAT in the liver (P < 0.05), However, oridonin inclusion increased the liver mRNA expression levels of Nrf2, Cu/Zn-SOD, Mn-SOD, CAT, and GPx1 (P < 0.05). It was concluded that the dietary oridonin supplementation at an optimum dose of 100 mg/kg improves the antioxidant capacity in broilers, as evidenced by the decrease in MDA and the increase in total SOD activities and mRNA expression levels of the liver antioxidant genes, although the effects on growth performance was negligible.

Abstract
Broccoli and cabbage are important vegetable crops that produce hybrid seeds after insect pollination; the size of floral organs is crucial for this process. To investigate the genetic characteristics of floral organ sizes (corolla width, petal length and width, and lengths of stamen, anther, style, and stigma) and to improve the flower size and breeding efficiency of broccoli, we used multi-generation analysis of a major gene plus polygene model. Six populations obtained from a broccoli inbred line 93219 (small floral organs) and cabbage inbred line 195 (large floral organs) were used for the analysis. Corolla and petal width and stamen and anther length were controlled by the additive-dominance-epistasis polygene model. The heritability of these traits in BC1, BC2, and F2 generations was high (72.80-93.76%). Petal and stigma length were governed by the two major genes of additive-dominance-epistasis effects plus additive-dominance polygene model; the major gene heritability in the F2 generation were 79.17 and 65.77%, respectively. Style length was controlled by one major gene of additive-dominance effects plus additive-dominance-epistasis polygene model; the major gene heritability in BC1, BC2, and F2 were 40.60, 10.35, and 38.44%, respectively; the polygene heritability varied from 41.85 to 68.44%. Our results provide important genetic information for breeding, which could guide improvement of flower-related traits and lay the foundation for quantitative trait loci mapping of the flower-size traits in Brassica.

Abstract
Microcystins (MCs) are cyanobacterial hepatotoxins capable of accumulation into animal tissues. To determine the total microcystins in water, a novel analytical method, including ozonolysis, methylation of 2-methyl-3-methoxy-4-phenylbutyric acid (MMPB) with methylchloroformate (MCF) and gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) detection was developed. The results show that MCs can be oxidized by ozone to produce MMPB at ambient temperature, proving ozonation is an effective, rapid and green method for the transformation of MCs to MMPB without secondary pollution. The oxidation conditions as well as the esterification process were optimized and, subsequently applied to analysis of environmental samples. The method shows wide linear range and high sensitivity with a detection limit of 0.34 μg L(-1). The established method was successfully applied to the analysis of microcystins in water samples.

Abstract
The present study was conducted to compare the supplementation of natural (D-α-tocopherol) and synthetic (DL-α-tocopherol acetate) vitamin E on the growth performance, meat quality, muscular antioxidant capacity and genes expression related to oxidative status of broilers. A total of 144 1 day-old Arbor Acres broiler chicks were randomly allocated into 3 groups with 6 replicates of 8 birds each. Birds were given a basal diet (control group), and basal diet supplemented with either 20 IU D-α-tocopherol or DL-α-tocopherol acetate for 42 days, respectively. The results indicated that treatments did not alter growth performance of broilers (p>0.05). Compared with the control group, concentration of α-tocopherol in the breast muscle was increased by the supplementation of vitamin E (p<0.05). In the thigh, α-tocopherol content was also enhanced by vitamin E inclusion, and this effect was more pronounced in the natural vitamin E group (p<0.05). Vitamin E supplementation increased the redness of breast (p<0.05). In the contrast, the inclusion of synthetic vitamin E decreased lightness of thigh (p<0.05). Dietary vitamin E inclusion reduced drip loss at 24 h of thigh muscle (p<0.05), and this effect was maintained for drip loss at 48 h in the natural vitamin E group (p<0.05). Broilers given diet supplemented with vitamin E showed decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the breast (p<0.05). Additionally, natural rather than synthetic vitamin E reduced MDA accumulation in the thigh (p<0.05). Neither natural nor synthetic vitamin E supplementation altered muscular mRNA abundance of genes related to oxidative stress (p>0.05). It was concluded that vitamin E supplementation, especially the natural vitamin E, can enhance the retention of muscular α-tocopherol, improve meat quality and muscular antioxidant capacity of broilers.
