Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the endemic situation of schistosomiasis in a national surveillance site of Yangzhong City, so as to provide the scientific evidence for adjusting the local schistosomiasis control strategy and consolidating the control achievements. METHODS According to the National Schistosomiasis Surveillance Scheme (2014 version), the snail status, Schistosoma japonicum infections in humans and livestock and wild feces contamination were monitored in Zhinan Village, a national schistosomiasis surveillance site in Yangzhong City from 2015 to 2018. RESULTS Theareasofsnailhabitatsreducedfrom 8.10 hm2 in 2015 to 2.72 hm2 in 2018, and the mean density of living snails decreased from 0.27 snails/0.1 m2 in 2015 to 0.07 snails/0.1 m2 in 2018 in Zhinan Village; however, no S. japonicum infections were identified in snails during the period from 2015 to 2018. Serological testing for S. japonicum infections was performed in 2 034 local populations and 858 mobile populations from 2015 to 2018, and the sero-prevalence of S. japonicum human infections was 0.59% to 1.98%, with no egg-positives detected. A total of 79 goats were detected for S. japonicum infections from 2015 to 2018, and no egg-positives were found. In addition, no other livestock was found in Zhinan Village from 2015 to 2018, and no wild feces were found in snail habitats. CONCLUSIONS A great success has been achieved in schistosomiasis control in Yangzhong City; however, there are still snails breeding in the city. Monitoring of the risk factors pertaining to schistosomiasis transmission should be further intensified to consolidate the control achievements.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the correlations between the degree of coronary artery stenosis with blood lipid, C-reactive protein (CRP), homocysteine (Hcy), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), soluble cluster determinant 36 (sCD36), and fibrinogen (Fib) levels in elderly patients with coronary heart disease. PATIENTS AND METHODS The Gensini scores for the coronary artery stenosis were analyzed in patients with single-vessel, double-vessel, and multi-vessel coronary artery diseases in observation group and normal people in control group. Changes in blood lipid-associated parameters, including total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerol (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), CRP, Hcy, GGT, sCD36, and Fib were compared between the two groups. The correlations between the Gensini score with changes of the blood-associated parameters, CRP, Hcy, GGT, sCD36, and Fib were analyzed. Finally, univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to determine the risk factors for coronary artery stenosis in elderly patients with coronary heart disease. RESULTS The Gensini score was significantly higher in coronary heart disease patients with multi-vessel, double-vessel, and single-vessel coronary artery diseases compared with that in normal people (p<0.05). The levels of the blood lipid-associated parameters TC, TG, and LDL-C in observation group were substantially higher than those in control group (p<0.05), and the level of HDL-C was notably lower than that in control group (p<0.05). Subjects in observation group had markedly higher levels of CRP, Hcy, GGT, sCD36, and Fib than control group (p<0.05). The Gensini score for the degree of coronary artery stenosis was positively correlated with the levels of the blood lipid-associated parameters TC and TG, CRP, Hcy, GGT, sCD36, and Fib (p<0.05) and negatively associated with the level of HDL-C (p<0.05). Blood lipid-associated parameters, CRP, Hcy, GGT, sCD36, and Fib were the independent risk factors for coronary artery stenosis in elderly patients with coronary heart disease patients. CONCLUSIONS The elevations of blood lipid, CRP, Hcy, GGT, sCD36, and Fib levels are closely associated with coronary artery stenosis, and serve as the independent risk factors for coronary artery stenosis.

Abstract
Certain animals exhibit a special dorsoventral pattern with a lighter ventral side compared to the dorsal one and this phenomenon was preserved in the long-term evolution process. Birds also retain this trait. Recently, Inaba et al. (2019) found that ASIP (agouti signal protein) regulated interconversion between different melanocyte types leads to dorsal stripe pattern, which may partly explain the birds' dorsoventral plumage color difference. In this study, we used the embryo samples of LBM (light brown mottling) ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) with white ventral and dark dorsal body parts to investigate the mechanism of dorsoventral color variation. Firstly, melanin deposition process of duck embryos was investigated. The result indicated that E13 and E16 were the active stages of melanin synthesis. Moreover, the melanin deposition on the dorsum of LBM ducks was higher than that on the ventral side throughout. Then, RNA-seq was conducted for the dorsal and ventral skin tissues from E7 (early), E13 (middle) and E19 (late) of LBM ducks. Expression pattern analysis showed that the mRNA expression of most melanin synthesis related genes were at the highest level at E13, which was consistent with the section analysis. A correlation was found between melanogenesis pathway and dorsoventral color difference by co-expression analysis. In the DEG (differentially expressed gene) analysis, we added the dorsal skin transcriptome of embryonic white and black duck of same subspecies (Anas platyrhynchos domestica) for horizontal comparison. The results showed that 8 melanogenesis related genes (TYR, TYRP1, MLANA, RAB38, OCA2, TSPAN10, MC1R, and MSLN) were the common DEGs (Differential expressed genes) in the comparisons of body parts and breeds suggesting that the underlying molecular regulatory mechanism of dorsoventral plumage color difference may be similar to that of albino and melanic duck, which were caused by the different expression of multiple genes in melanin synthesis pathway. In addition, the molecular regulation of melanin synthesis pathway in the dorsal and ventral side of LBM ducks was analyzed. In this pathway, ASIP, MC1R, TYR, and TYRP1 have differential mRNA expression. ASIP, as an upstream gene in this pathway, was likely to play a decisive role in determining the dorsoventral plumage pattern.

Abstract
Drip loss is an essential evaluation indicator for pork quality. It is closely related to other meat quality indicators, including water-holding capacity, water loss rate and pH value at 45 min (pH1 ) and 24 h post-mortem (pH2 ), and is influenced by environmental and genetic factors and their interactions. We previously conducted differentially expressed gene analysis to identify candidate genes affecting drip loss using eight individuals with extremely high- and low-drip loss selected from 28 purebred Duroc pigs. Using 28 identical samples, in the present study, we performed weighted gene co-expression network analysis with drip loss and drip loss-related traits, including water-holding capacity, water loss rate, pH1 and pH2 . A total of 25 modules were identified, and five of them correlated with at least two drip loss or drip loss-related traits. After functional enrichment analysis of genes in the five modules, three modules were found to be critical, as their genes were significantly involved in amino acid metabolism, immune response and apoptosis, which have potential relationships with drip loss. Furthermore, we identified five candidate genes affecting drip loss in one critical module, AASS, BCKDHB, ALDH6A1, MUT and MCCC1, as they overlapped with differentially expressed genes detected in our previous study, exhibited protein-protein interactions and had potential biological functions in affecting drip loss according to the literature. The outcomes of the present study enhance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying drip loss and will aid in improving the pork quality.

Abstract
Acute mercury poisoning, involving a number of organs, leads to severe dysfunctions, such as acute renal failure (ARF), and even threatens patients' lives. A case of acute severe mercuric chloride (HgCl2) poisoning with multiple organ failure was reported in this study. A 38-year-old woman orally took about 50 g HgCl2 powder in 2015, and showed nausea, emesis, clouding of consciousness, lip and nail cyanosis, and dark red bloody fluid from bilateral nostrils. Based on chest and abdominal CT examinations, gastroscopy, and colonoscopy, the patient was found to suffer oral mucosal hyperemia and ulceration, gastrointestinal bleeding (haematemesis and hemafecia), ARF, metabolic acidosis, collapse and shock. Despite assisted respiration and relevant active treatments, the patient's condition deteriorated gradually and she was dead eventually. The study suggests that the best treatments for acute HgCl2 poisoning accompanied with ARF are early blood purification and mercury elimination on the basis of conventional therapy.

Abstract
Liver failure is a rapidly progressive condition with a high mortality rate. Artificial liver treatment is one of the most important treatments for liver failure. In order to ensure the smooth functioning of in vitro circulation device, anticoagulants such as heparin or low-molecular-weight heparin are often used in clinical practice. However, it induces hemorrhage, thrombocytopenia and other adverse reactions, thereby threatening the life safety of liver failure patients. Regional citrate anticoagulation does not affect the coagulation mechanism in vivo, nor does it effects platelets, so in vitro circulating anticoagulants has become the first choice anticoagulant treatment method for continuous renal replacement therapy. Combined with the current research condition at home and abroad, the research progress of the application of regional citrate anticoagulation in artificial liver to treat liver failure is discussed, covering its principle content, application status and application prospect.

Abstract
Background ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are involved in the active transportation of various endogenous or exogenous substances. Two ABCG2 gene subfamily members have been identified in birds. A detailed comparative study of the ABCG2 and ABCG2-like genes aid our understanding of their evolutionary history at the molecular level and provide a theoretical reference for studying the specific functions of ABCG2 and ABCG2-like genes in birds. Results We first identified 77 ABCG2/ABCG2-like gene sequences in the genomes of 41 birds. Further analysis showed that both the nucleic acid and amino acid sequences of ABCG2 and ABCG2-like genes were highly conserved and exhibited high homology in birds. However, significant differences in the N-terminal structure were found between the ABCG2 and ABCG2-like amino acid sequences. A selective pressure analysis showed that the ABCG2 and ABCG2-like genes were affected by purifying selection during the process of bird evolution. Conclusions We believe that multiple members of the ABCG2 gene subfamily exist on chromosome 4 in the ancestors of birds. Over the long course of evolution, only the ABCG2 gene was retained on chromosome 4 in birds. The ABCG2-like gene on chromosome 6 might have originated from chromosome replication or fusion. The structural differences between the N terminus of ABCG2 protein and those of ABCG2-like proteins might lead to functional differences between the corresponding genes.

Abstract
The Jianchang duck is mainly distributed in Southwest China, and has the characteristics of fast growth rate and strong abilities in lipid deposition in the liver. In order to investigate the effects of domestication process on formation of the unique characteristics of Jianchang duck, the whole genome of sixteen individuals and three pooling of Jianchang duck were re-sequenced, and genome data of 70 mallards and 83 domestic ducks from thirteen different places in China were obtained from NCBI. The population stratification and evolution analysis showed gene exchanges existed between the Jianchang and other domestic duck populations, as well as Jianchang ducks and mallards. Genomic comparison between mallards and Jianchang ducks showed genes, including CNTN1, CHRNA9, and SHANK2, which is involved in brain and nerve development, experienced strong positive selection in the process of Jianchang duck domestication. The genomic comparison between Jianchang and domestic duck populations showed that HSD17B12 and ESM1, which affect lipid metabolism, experienced strong positive selection during the domestication process. FST analysis among populations of Jianchang duck with different plumage colors indicated that MITF was related to the phenotype of a white feather, while MC1R was related to the phenotype of hemp feather. Our results provided a base for the domestication process of Jianchang duck and the genomic genes for unique traits.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gang goose is a native species with gray plumage in Sichuan, China. As a result of overhunting, the number of gray Gang geese has decreased dramatically. To keep the species from extinction, conservation work for Gang geese was undertaken. In the process of pure breeding of gray Gang geese, approximately 2% of the offspring of each generation were white. This study aims to explain the genetic mechanism of this phenomenon and provide reliable molecular markers for goose-related plumage color breeding. RESULTS We used the method of pooled whole genome sequencing and Fst (fixation statistics) to identify the differentiation degree of alleles between gray Gang geese and white Gang geese from their offspring. In this way, EDNRB2, a key gene that affects the migration of melanoblasts, was identified. Then, the transcriptome was sequenced for the two geese plumage color populations, and the DEGs (differentially expressed genes) were analyzed. The results indicated that EDNRB2, as a possible candidate gene, had a significantly differential mRNA expression. In addition, a 14-bp insertion (NW_013185915.1: g. 750,748-750,735 insertion. CACAGGTGAGCTCT) in exon 3 of EDNRB2 was analyzed and found to have a significant association between gray geese and Chinese white breeds (P = 0.00), while this mutation was not found in European geese. Meanwhile, the insertion was homozygous in all the white geese we detected and heterozygous in gray geese, indicating that this mutation is recessive. Furthermore, this 14-bp insertion leads to a frameshift mutation in the EDNRB2 coding region and nonsense-mediated mRNA decay. CONCLUSION Our study strongly suggests that the 14-bp insertion in exon 3 of the EDNRB2 gene is associated with the white plumage phenotype in Chinese geese. This study is the first to investigate the relationship between EDNRB2 and white plumage in geese.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the expression of extracellular vesicle-derived lncZEB1-AS1 in esophageal cancer and its role in esophageal cancer progression. PATIENTS AND METHODS The extracellular vesicles (EVs) from esophageal cancer patients (n = 26) and normal subjects (n = 26) were isolated by differential centrifugation. The expression of lncZEB1-AS1 in EVs was detected by Real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction). The clinical data of normal subjects and patients were analyzed. In addition, the concentration of EVs and lncZEB1-AS1 in blood samples from normal subjects and esophageal cancer patients were assessed. After co-culture of esophageal cancer cell line EC109 and EVs with or without lncZEB1-AS1 knockdown, cell proliferation was detected by CCK-8 assay. The possible target microRNAs of lncZEB1-AS1 in cytoplasm were predicted with miRcode, followed by correlation analysis of lncZEB1-AS1 and miR-214. Through literature review, lncZEB1-AS1 positively regulates ZEB1 expression, which was consistent with our result. RESULTS Quantitative Real-time PCR showed that the serum levels of EVs and the content of lncZEB1-AS1 in EVs from esophageal cancer patients were significantly higher than those in normal controls. LncZEB1-AS1 was overexpressed in esophageal cancer cells co-cultured with EVs of esophageal cancer patients. CCK-8 results indicated that EC109 cells co-cultured with EVs of esophageal cancer patients had stronger proliferative capacity. miRcode showed that miR-214 ranked the first of microRNAs that lncZEB1-AS1 might target, and miR-214 expression was significantly increased after lncZEB1-AS1 knockdown in EC109. After overexpressing lncZEB1-AS1 in EC109 or co-culturing EVs of esophageal cancer patients with EC109 cells, we found that lncZEB1-AS1 positively regulates ZEB1. In contrast, interfering with the expression of lncZEB1-AS1 in esophageal cancer cell lines can effectively reduce the expression of ZEB1. CONCLUSIONS EVs in the peripheral blood from esophageal cancer patients promote esophageal cancer progression by delivering lncZEB1-AS1 to esophageal cancer cells and targeting miR-214.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the improvement rate of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection who received entecavir alone or in combination with anluohuaxianwan for 78 weeks. Methods: Patients with chronic HBV infection were randomly treated with entecavir alone or in combination with anluohuaxian for 78 weeks. Ishak fibrosis score was used for blind interpretation of liver biopsy specimens. The improvement in liver fibrosis condition before and after the treatment was compared. Student's t test and non-parametric test (Mann-Whitney U-Test and Kruskal-Wallis test) were used to analyze the measurement data. The categorical variables were analyzed by Chi-square test method and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was used to test bivariate associations. Results: Liver fibrosis improvement rate after 78 weeks of treatment was 36.53% (80/219) and the progression rate was 23.29% (51/219). The improvement of liver fibrosis was associated to the degree of baseline fibrosis and treatment methods (P < 0.05). The improvement rate of hepatic fibrosis in patients treated with anluohuaxianwan combined with entecavir at baseline F < 3 (54.74%, 52/95) was significantly higher than that in patients treated only with entecavir (33.33%, 16/48), P = 0.016 and the progression rate of hepatic fibrosis (13.68%, 13/95) was lower than that in patients treated alone (18.75%, 9/48), P = 0.466. In patients with baseline F < 3, the proportion of patients with improved and stable liver fibrosis in the combined treatment group (68.1%, 32/47) was higher than that in the treatment group alone (51.7%, 15/29). Conclusion: Combined anluohuaxianwan and entecavir treatment can significantly improve the improvement rate of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection. Furthermore, it has the tendency to improve the stability rate and reduce the rate of progression of liver fibrosis.

Abstract
Thallium is highly toxic and its effects are cumulative. The clinical symptoms of thallium poisoning are non-specific, thereby delaying admission and treatment. This study aimed to summarize the clinical features and treatment experience of patients with delayed admission who experience thallium poisoning. We conducted a retrospective descriptive analysis of patients in our hospital from 2008 to 2018 who had thallium poisoning and experienced a delay in hospital admission. The time from symptom onset to admission was assessed. The patients were divided into 3 groups and descriptive analyses of their clinical characteristics, including basic patient information, symptoms, laboratory test results, examination findings, treatment methods, outcomes, and follow-up information, were conducted.A total of 34 patients with thallium poisoning were included: 8 were admitted to the hospital early or with mild delay, 9 had a moderate delay, and 17 had a severely delayed admission. The time from illness onset to admission was 13 (interquartile range, 7.5-26) days. Some patients with delayed admission had significant symptoms associated with central nervous system damage, and changes in magnetic resonance images and electroencephalograms were also noted. After admission, all patients received Prussian blue treatment, and some patients with relatively high blood concentration received blood purification treatments. Following treatment, the blood and urine thallium concentrations of all patients decreased significantly, and their symptoms were alleviated. Our results show that delayed patient admission in cases of thallium poisoning is associated with greater risk of central nervous system damage. Use of Prussian blue combined with blood purification treatments might improve patients' conditions.

Abstract
This study was conducted to explore the effect of graded levels of pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium (PQQ·Na2) on the performance and intestinal development of weaned pigs. A total of 216 pigs weaned at 28 d were assigned in a randomized complete block design to 6 diets containing 0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5, 6.0, or 7.5 mg/kg PQQ·Na2 for 28 d. Performance, diarrhea incidence, intestinal morphology, redox status, cytokines, and the expression of tight junction proteins were determined. Pigs had increased ADG (linear, P < 0.01), G:F (quadratic, P < 0.01), and lower diarrhea incidence (P < 0.01) with the increase of PQQ·Na2 supplementation. Villus height increased (quadratic, P < 0.01) in all segments of the small intestine, and crypt depth in the duodenum and jejunum was decreased (linear, P < 0.05) in pigs with the increase of PQQ·Na2 supplementation. Pigs fed PQQ·Na2-supplemented diets had higher (P < 0.05) activities of antioxidant enzymes including total superoxide dismutase in duodenum, jejunum, and ileum; glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in jejunum and ileum; catalase (CAT) in duodenum and ileum; and lower (P < 0.05) malondialdehyde concentrations in the intestinal mucosa of all segments. In the intestinal mucosa, cytokines including interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-2, and interferon-γ were significantly decreased (P < 0.05) in pigs fed PQQ·Na2-supplemented diets. The protein expression of zonula occluden protein-1 (ZO-1) and occludin in the jejunum was significantly increased (P < 0.05) in pigs fed diets containing PQQ·Na2. In conclusion, these results have indicated that dietary PQQ·Na2 supplementation improves growth performance and gut health in weaned pigs. Moreover, pigs fed diet with as low as 1.5-mg/kg PQQ·Na2 have better performance compared with pigs fed no PQQ·Na2-supplemented diet; pigs fed diet with 4.5-mg/kg PQQ·Na2 have highest G:F among treatments during the whole period.

Abstract
RATIONALE This is the first reported severe thallium poisoning patient successfully treated with Prussian blue (PB) and plasma exchange (PE). PATIENT CONCERNS A 42-year-old woman in a coma owing to severe thallium poisoning was admitted to our department after day 44 of poisoning. At admission, blood and urine thallium concentrations were 380.0 and 2580.0 ng/mL, respectively. DIAGNOSIS The patient was diagnosed with toxic encephalopathy induced by thallium poisoning; in addition, she was also diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, respiratory failure, moderate anemia, hypoproteinemia, and electrolyte imbalance based on her chest X-ray, blood gas analysis, Hb level, albumin levels, and serum electrolyte results. INTERVENTIONS The patient was intubated and treated with PB (6600 mg/d, 15 days in total) combined with PE (once daily, 5 days in total) as well as other symptomatic supportive care measures. OUTCOMES After treatments, her blood and urinary thallium concentrations gradually decreased and on the 13th day after admission, the blood thallium concentration decreased to 0 ng/mL. The oxygenation index gradually improved, meantime, the patient gradually regained consciousness, and on the 50th day of admission, the patient's consciousness reverted to a clear-headed state. The patient recovered mostly after 37 months of follow-up. LESSONS Through this case, we learned that the gradual reduction in blood and urine thallium concentration and the patient's improved condition is correlated with PB and PE treatment. For patients with severe thallium poisoning, this treatment method might be effective; but the exact curative effect is unconfirmed, requiring further research to verify.

EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2018; 22:7938-7944. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Nardilysin (N-arginine dibasic convertase, NRDC) is a kind of metalloendopeptidase associated with several inflammatory diseases. NRDC is reported to be eligible for early detection of acute coronary syndrome. However, the availability and effectiveness of NRDC in predicting the prognosis of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction has never been investigated. PATIENTS AND METHODS From January 2010 to January 2012, the prospective observational cohort study enrolled a total of 396 STEMI patients, who were sampled with blood within 24 hours after admission. A long-term follow-up was conducted to record the primary endpoint of all-cause mortality, as well as secondary endpoint of myocardial infarction, stroke, emergent revascularization and admission due to heart failure. Hazard ratio (HR) related to the serum NRDC level was estimated by Cox regression model. RESULTS The enrolled patients completed the follow-up with an average of 4.6 ± 0.5 years, of whom 24 patients died (primary endpoint, 6.1%), while 89 episodes of secondary endpoints occurred (22.5%). Patients with highest quartile level of NRDC (Q4 level, > 2041 pg/ml) were subjected to higher risk of all-cause death [HR 3.973, 95% CI (1.648-9.575), p = 0.002] compared to patients with lower three quartiles level of NRDC (Q1 to Q3, < 2041 pg/ml), while there was no difference in adverse events (p = 0.403). CONCLUSIONS The increased serum NRDC level at admission is associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality for ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients.
