Abstract
Stroke is a serious worldwide medical condition that causes neurological function disability. Diffusional kurtosis imaging, which measures the non-Gaussianity of water diffusion, has been demonstrated to be a sensitive biomarker in many neuro-pathologies. This study explores the relationship between neural function recovery and transformation of the ischemic lesion and/or corticospinal tract during the sub-acute phase after stroke by using diffusional kurtosis imaging. We performed a prospective study of function recovery and K metrics of 43 patients with sub-acute ischemic stroke in the middle cerebral artery territory. The effect of rehabilitation treatment was evaluated using both the Fugl-Meyer motor function score and modified Barthel index score at post-treatment compared with admission, and patients were allocated to two groups: good and poor rehabilitation effect (GRE and PRE). Metrics of diffusional kurtosis imaging within ischemic lesion and along the corticospinal tract were acquired, respectively. All three relative axial diffusional kurtoses (rKas) along the corticospinal tract in the GRE group ( n = 21) were significantly larger than those of the PRE group ( n = 22), including rKa in the posterior limb of internal capsule, rKa in the cerebral peduncle, and rKa in the basal part of the pons ( p = 0.014, 0.005, and 0.021, respectively). This multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging study showed that diffusional kurtosis imaging has the potential to complement existing stroke imaging techniques and revealed its own advantages in elucidating the possible biophysical mechanism of functional restoration underlying ischemic stroke.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the influence of different thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) cut-offs to diagnose subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) in the first trimester of gestation. Methods: A total of 896 pregnant women were enrolled in Peking University International Hospital between October 2016 and March 2018. Among them, 421 pregnant women with single fetus who were conformed to the criteria of National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB), without adverse pregnancy outcomes and obstetric complications, were selected to establish their self-sequential longitudinal reference ranges of thyroid function. Then, SCH was diagnosed in the first trimester, using different TSH cutoffs, such as the upper limit of the first trimester-specific reference range, 4.0 mU/L recommended by the 2017 Guidelines of American Thyroid Association (ATA), 5.17 mU/L (Roche reagent) recommended by 2012 Guidelines of Chinese Society of Endocrinology and Chinese Society of Perinatal Medicine, and 2.5 mU/L recommended by 2011 Guidelines of ATA, respectively. Results: The TSH reference range was 0.12-4.16 mU/L in the first trimester. Using TSH>4.16, 4.0, 5.17 and 2.5 mU/L to diagnose SCH in the first trimester, the prevalence rates were 4.35% (39/896), 5.92% (53/896), 1.56% (14/896) and 20.87% (187/896), respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between the prevalence rates of SCH using the TSH upper reference limit of 4.0 mU/L and 4.16 mU/L (P=0.134). When TSH was defined as>4.0 mU/L to diagnose SCH, the sensitivity, specificity and Youden index was 97.4%, 98.2%, and 0.956, respectively. Conclusions: The TSH upper reference limit of 4.0 mU/L recommended by 2017 Guidelines of ATA can be used as a cut-off to diagnose SCH in first trimester for the areas without trimester-specific reference ranges for TSH in China.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the risk factors and sonographic findings of pregnancies complicated by placenta increta or placenta percreta. Methods: Totally, 2 219 cases were retrospectively analyzed from 20 tertiary hospitals in China from January 2011 to December 2015. The data were collected based on the original case records. All cases were divided into two groups, the placenta increta (PI) group (79.1%, 1 755/2 219) and the placenta percreta (PP) group (20.9%, 464/2 219) , according to the degree of placental implantation. The risk factors and sonographic findings of placenta increta or percreta were analyzed by uni-factor and logistic regression statistic methods. Results: The risk factors associated with the degree of placental implantation were age, gravida, previous abortion or miscarriage, previous cesarean sections, and placenta previa (all P<0.05), especially, previous cesarean sections (χ(2)=157.961) and placenta previa (χ(2)=91.759). Sonographic findings could be used to predict the degree of placental invasion especially the boundaries between placenta and uterine serosa, the boundary between placenta and myometrium, the disruption of the placental-uterine wall interface and loss of the normal retroplacental hypoechoic zone(all P<0.01). Conclusions: Previous cesarean sections and placenta previa are the main independent risk factors associated with the degree of placenta implantation. Ultrasound could be used to make a prenatal suggestive diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum disorders.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the dosimetric distribution characteristics of (125)I seed stents with different seed spacing, diameter and length, as well as different (125)I seed activity. The dosimetry table of (125)I seed esophageal stent was derived to provide dosimetry for its clinical application. Methods: The self-expanding coated esophagus stent was designed to carry radioactive (125)I seeds with different length, diameter and seed spacing. A cylindrical organic glass model (Thickness 0.8 cm, diameter 20 cm, height 20 cm) was fixed vertically to a cylindrical organic glass containing a solid paraffin (analytical pure) solution. After paraffin cooling and solidification, CT scan was used to transmit image information to TPS. With the center of the bracket as a dot, the cumulative dose at a distance of 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 and 8.0 cm away from the dot was simulated respectively in 0° and 9° direction. Results: The radial cumulative dose with the seed spacing which was 1.0 and 1.5 cm were different by 4.8%, 5.8%, 7.2%, 8.0%, 8.6% and 13.3% respectively under the exposure of 18.5, 22.2, 25.9, 29.6, 33.3 and 37.0 MBq. When the seed spacing was the same as the length of the stent, the radial cumulative dose with the stent which diameter was 1.3, 2.0, 2.4 cm were different by 4.9% vs 3.4%, 4.7% vs 3.8%, 5.4% vs 6.6%, 4.5% vs 5.3%, 4.7% vs 4.8%, 4.8% vs 5.4% respectively under the exposure of 18.5, 22.2, 25.9, 29.6, 33.3 and 37.0 MBq. When the seed spacing was the same as the diameter of the stent, the radial cumulative dose with the stent which length was 8, 12, 16 cm were different by 1.9% vs 1.2%, 1.7% vs 0.8%, 1.6% vs 1.3%, 1.9% vs 1.5%, 1.7% vs 1.8%, 1.6% vs 1.3% respectively under the exposure of 18.5, 22.2, 25.9, 29.6, 33.3 and 37.0 MBq. Conclusions: The radial cumulative dose of the (125)I seed stent is positively correlated with the activity of the radioactive seeds, Which means the dose rate of a certain point of the (125)I seed stent increase with the increase of the activity of the radioactive seeds. The stent of the (125)I radioactive seeds is negatively correlated with the distance, the dose rate of the (125)I seed stents decrease rapidly with the increase of distance.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of silica dust on protein oxidative injury in the lung tissue of mice. Methods: A total of 60 mice were randomly divided into control group (not exposed to dust) , 2-hour group (inhalation of dust for 2 hours per day) , 4-hour group (inhalation of dust for 4 hours per day) , and 8-hour group (inhalation of dust for 8 hours per day) , with 15 mice in each group. During dust exposure, the mice were placed in a dust exposure cabinet; the dust was blown with an air blower and the concentration was maintained at 125 mg/m(3). All mice were exposed to silica dust for 3 weeks. The changes of the lung were observed after dust exposure ended, and spectrophotometry was performed to measure the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyl in the lung tissue. Results: The 2-, 4-, and 8-hour groups had marked edema, sporadic punctate hemorrhage, and nodular shadow in the lungs. Compared with the control group, the 2-, 4-, and 8-hour groups had a significant increase in lung coefficient (7.03±0.78 mg/g, 8.48±0.93 mg/g, and 8.99±0.85 mg/g vs 5.52±0.81 mg/g, P<0.05) . Compared with the control group, the 2-, 4-, and 8-hour groups had significant increases in the content of MDA (2.83±0.52, 3.94±0.65, and 4.56±0.77 nmol/mg prot vs 1.26±0.36 nmol/mg prot, P<0.05) and protein carbonyl (1.61±0.44, 1.96±0.47, and 2.20±0.58 nmol/mg prot vs 1.13±0.21 nmol/mg prot, P<0.05) in lung tissue. The 4- and 8-hour groups had a significantly lower activity of SOD than the control group (153.69±20.58 and 140.35±18.97 U/mg prot vs 186.00±25.46 U/mg prot, P<0.05) . Conclusions: Silica dust may lead to protein oxidative injury in the lung tissue of mice, which might play an important role in lung injury.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of glutamine (Gln) on the intestinal morphology, intestinal inflammatory response, and barrier integrity in broilers exposed to high ambient temperature. Three-hundred-sixty 21-d-old Arbor Acres broilers (half male and half female) were randomly allocated to 4 treatment groups in a completely randomized design, each of which included 6 replicates with 15 birds per replicate, for 21 d. The 4 treatment groups were as follows: the control group, in which birds were kept in a thermoneutral room at 22 ± 1°C (no stress, NS; fed a basal diet); the heat stress group (36 ± 1°C for 10 h/d from 08:00 to 18:00 h and 22 ± 1°C for the remaining time, heat stress (HT); fed a basal diet); and heat stress + Gln group (0.5 and 1.0% Gln, respectively). Compared to the NS group, broilers in the HT group had lower villus height (P < 0.05), higher crypt depth (P < 0.05), higher D-lactic acid and diamine oxidase (DAO) activity (P < 0.05), higher soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) concentration (P < 0.05), higher tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α/interleukin (IL)-10 (P < 0.05), and lower tight junction protein expression levels (P < 0.05). Compared with birds in the HT, birds in the HT + Gln group exhibited increased villus height (P < 0.05), decreased D-lactate and DAO activity (P < 0.05), decreased sICAM-1 concentration (P < 0.05), and mediate the secretion of cytokines (P < 0.05), as well as increased zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), claudin-1, and occludin mRNA expression levels (P < 0.05). In conclusion, these results indicate that supplementation with Gln was effective in partially ameliorating the adverse effects of heat stress on intestinal barrier function in broilers by promoting epithelial cell proliferation and renewal, modifying the function of the intestinal mucosa barrier, and regulating the secretion of cytokines.

Abstract
Objective:The aim of this study is to examine whether nuocytes induced differentiation of primary T cells into Th2 cells in AR mice in vitro. Method:A murine model of AR on the background of BALB/c was established using ovalbumin, and nuocytes were sorted and purified from the mouse nasal associated lymphoid tissue (NALT) and cultured in vitro. Then, we assessed the expression of IL-4 in these cells. Mouse peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated and Th2 cells and T cells were isolated for in vitro culture, and the percentage of T cells in Th2 cells was detected. Then, NALT-derived nuocyte cells cultured in vitro were added to the above-mentioned mouse T cell culture medium for co-culture. Result:Numbers of sneezing, nasal rubbing and eosinophils in nasal lavage fluid were all enhanced in AR mice compared to normal ones. We used flow cytometry analysis to identify nuocytes from mice NALT as CD3CD4CD8CD19CD11bCD11cFcεR1 (lineage)-ICOS+, and also found that the cells expressed IL-4, and its protein and mRNA were all increased in AR mice versus normal mice. After nuocytes were co-cultured with T-cell cultures, we determined the percentage of Th2 cells in total T cells, and found that the percentage was increased significantly. Conclusion:nuocyte cells may induce the differentiation of primary T cells into Th2 cells in AR mice through IL-4 pathway.

Abstract
To explore the diagnostic value of copeptin (CPP) in cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) in rats and the association between CPP and impairment of heart and kidney, 60 male SD rats were randomly divided into blank control group (CK group), kidney failure group (SNX group), heart failure group (MI group), and CRS group. Heart and kidney function and their histology changes in rats from each group were detected. The correlation between serum CPP and heart and kidney function indexes was performed with Pearson correlation analysis. The HE staining of heart and kidney showed that the tissue lesion was more severe in CRS group than in SNX group and MI group. There was a significant positive correlation between serum CPP and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) (r=0.638, P<0.05). No correlation was observed between serum CPP and cardiac function index (left ventricular systolic pressure, left ventricular diastolic pressure, left ventricular end-diastolic pressure) or renal function index (serum creatinine, urine creatinine, blood urea nitrogen) (r=0.512, 0.189,-0.063, 0.207, 0.290, 0.595, respectively, all P>0.05). The CPP level is associated with the degree of heart and kidney damage in CRS rats.

Abstract
The biosynthesis of phytotoxin thaxtomin A (TXT) constitutes the major pathogenicity determinant in Streptomyces scabies, the most widely studied phytopathogen causing scab disease in potato and other root crops. It is recognized that S. scabies regulates its pathogenicity via γ-butyrolactone (GBL)-dependent quorum sensing (QS) signalling. AttM, from Agrobacterium tumefaciens C58 strain, has recently been proposed to have GBL-assimilative capacity. Here, we presented the introduction of A. tumefaciens-derived attM gene into S. scabies using the Escherichia coli-Streptomyces shuttle vector pIJ8600 via intergeneric conjugation, followed by the investigation of secondary metabolism (mycelium growth, TXT production and pathogenicity) in S. scabies attM exconjugants (S.s/attM) in comparison with their wild-type parent strain (S.s/WT). Among the resultant S.s/attM exconjugants, attM was found to be integrated into S. scabies chromosome as analysed by Southern blotting. Moreover, S.s/attM failed to evoke the disease symptoms in planta and displayed altered morphological differentiation in contrast to S.s/WT. The abolishment of TXT production in S.s/attM substantiated the loss of pathogenicity and also implied that attM, when constitutively expressed in S. scabies, could paralyse its GBL signalling pathway. Altogether, lactonase-coding gene attM would be useful in a quorum quenching strategy for plant protection via suppressing TXT production and pathogenicity of S. scabies. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY This study provides an efficient means to introduce the lactonase gene attM from Agrobacterium tumefaciens into Streptomyces scabies for evaluating the role of γ-butyrolactone (GBL) in thaxtomin A production and pathogenicity, etc. Our results showed that pathogenicity was abrogated in attM-expressing S. scabies exconjugants. Although there are gene knockout approaches to inactivating GBL signalling and thus pathogenicity in S. scabies, they are not only time consuming due to refractory host but also possibly incomplete in view of gene redundancy. Our work is the first report for a kind of lactonase affecting pathogenicity and/or virulence of scab-causing Streptomyces species.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE An accurate evaluation of the World Health Organization grade and cellular proliferation is particularly important in meningiomas. Our aim was to prospectively evaluate and compare diffusional kurtosis imaging, DTI, and DWI metrics in determining the grade and cellular proliferation of meningiomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ninety-six consecutive patients with histopathologically confirmed meningiomas were included in this study. Mean kurtosis, radial kurtosis, axial kurtosis, fractional anisotropy, mean diffusivity, and ADC were semiautomatically obtained in the solid components of tumors. Each normalized diffusion value was compared between high-grade meningiomas and low-grade meningiomas using the Mann-Whitney U test. Receiver operating characteristic, multiple logistic regression, and Pearson correlation analysis were used for statistical evaluations. RESULTS Diffusional kurtosis imaging metrics (mean kurtosis, radial kurtosis, and axial kurtosis) were significantly higher in high-grade meningiomas than in low-grade meningiomas (P ≤ .001). Mean diffusivity and ADC were significantly lower in high-grade meningiomas than in low-grade meningiomas (P = .003 and .002). Mean kurtosis had significantly greater area the under curve values than mean diffusivity and fractional anisotropy in differentiating high-grade meningiomas from low-grade meningiomas (P = .038 and .002). Mean kurtosis was the only variable that could be used to independently differentiate high-grade meningiomas and low-grade meningiomas (P < .001). Significant correlations were found between the Ki-67 labeling index and kurtosis metrics (P < .001), as well as for mean diffusivity and ADC (P = .004, and .007). CONCLUSIONS Compared with other diffusion metrics, mean kurtosis may serve as an optimal parameter for evaluating and predicting the meningioma grade. Moreover, diffusion metrics may potentially reflect cellular proliferation.

Abstract
Carbon nanomaterials such as polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), graphene, fullerenes and nanotubes are on the frontline of materials research due to their excellent physical properties, which in recent years, have started to compete with conventional inorganic materials in charge transfer based applications. Recently, a variety of new structures such as single-walled carbon nanobelts (SWCNBs) have been conceived, however, to date only one 'all-phenyl' example has been synthesised, due to problems with their stability and the challenging synthetic methodologies required. This study introduces a new class of phenacene-based SWCNBs and their chalcogenide derivatives, forming the new sub-class of single-walled heterocyclic carbon nanobelts (SWHNBs) which are expected to be both more stable and easier to synthesise than the all carbon analogues. Subsequent theoretical examination of the structure-property relationships found that unlike the small-molecule acene homologues (tetracene, pentacene etc.) which become more reactive with addition of oxygen, an increase in the molecular size of the SWCNBs actually stabilises the HOMO energy level, in correlation with the increasingly negative nuclear independent chemical shift (NICS) calculations of their cylindrical aromaticities. The FMO energies of the phenacene SWCNBs are similar to that of the nanobelt reported by Itami and co-workers, but those of the SWHNBs are deeper and thus more stable. The sulfur derivative of one SWHNB was found to give hole-charge transfer mobilities as high as 1.12 cm2 V-1 s-1, which is three orders of magnitude larger than the corresponding unsubstituted SWCNB (3 × 10-3 cm2 V-1 s-1). These findings suggest the candidates are air-stable and potentially high-performing organic semiconductors for organic thin film transistor (OTFT) devices, while the structure-property relationships uncovered here will aid the design and synthesis of future three-dimensional organic nanomaterials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) represent a new innate effector leukocyte population that mediates type-2 immune response. However, the contribution of ILC2s to allergic rhinitis (AR) is currently not well defined. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the potential existence and function of allergen-induced ILC2s in the experimental AR. METHODS We established a murine model of AR using ovalbumin (OVA) and aluminium hydroxide. The OVA-induced ILC2s were sorted and purified from the mouse nasal-associated lymphoid tissue (NALT). Then, we assessed ILC2s responses to mouse recombinant interleukin (rmIL)-25, anti-IL17RB antibody and CC chemokine ligand (CCL) 25 in the culture. After that, we adoptively transferred the NALT-derived ILC2s alone or plus rmIL-25 or anti-IL17RB antibody to the murine model of AR to investigate their role in the nasal allergic inflammation. RESULTS We showed that ILC2s could be induced by OVA in the NALT of AR model. They were induced to secrete IL-5 and IL-13 by rmIL-25, and blocking of IL17RB contributed to the decreased production of these cytokines in the culture. We found that CCL25 induced the NALT-derived ILC2s migration through CC chemokine receptor 9 on ILC2s in vitro. Numbers of sneezing and nasal rubbing as well as counts of invasive eosinophils were all enhanced after the adoptive transfer of cultured ILC2s in vitro. The expressions of IL-5, IL-13, IL-25 and CCL25 in the NLF of allergic mice were also increased. CONCLUSION These findings show that ILC2s play a proinflammatory role in the murine AR model, and also highlight ILC2s as a new target in the future AR therapy.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the predictive factors of mortality in extremely preterm infants. Methods: The retrospective case-control study was accomplished in the Second Affiliated Hospital and Yuying Children's Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University. A total of 268 extremely preterm infants seen from January 1, 1999 to December 31, 2015 were divided into survival group (192 cases) and death group (76 cases). The potential predictive factors of mortality were identified by univariate analysis, and then analyzed by multivariate unconditional Logistic regression analysis. The mortality and predictive factors were also compared between two time periods, which were January 1, 1999 to December 31, 2007 (65 cases) and January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2015 (203 cases). Results: The median gestational age (GA) of extremely preterm infants was 27 weeks (23+3-27+6 weeks). The mortality was higher in infants with GA of 25-<26 weeks (OR=2.659, 95% CI: 1.211-5.840) and<25 weeks (OR=10.029, 95% CI: 3.266-30.792) compared to that in infants with GA> 26 weeks. From January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2015, the number of extremely preterm infants was increased significantly compared to the previous 9 years, while the mortality decreased significantly (OR=0.490, 95% CI: 0.272-0.884). Multivariate unconditional Logistic regression analysis showed that GA below 25 weeks (OR=6.033, 95% CI: 1.393-26.133), lower birth weight (OR=0.997, 95% CI: 0.995-1.000), stage Ⅲ necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) (OR=15.907, 95% CI: 3.613-70.033), grade Ⅰ and Ⅱ intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) (OR=0.260, 95% CI: 0.117-0.575) and dependence on invasive mechanical ventilation (OR=3.630, 95% CI: 1.111-11.867) were predictive factors of mortality in extremely preterm infants. Conclusions: GA below 25 weeks, lower birth weight, stage Ⅲ NEC and dependence on invasive mechanical ventilation are risk factors of mortality in extremely preterm infants. But grade ⅠandⅡ IVH is protective factor.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parkinson's disease (PD) can cause severe dysphagia, especially later in disease progression. Early identification of swallowing dysfunction may lead to earlier intervention. Pharyngeal high-resolution manometry (HRM) provides complementary information to videofluoroscopy, with advantages of being quantitative and objective. Artificial neural network (ANN) classification can examine non-linear relationships among multiple variables with relatively low bias. We evaluated if ANN techniques could differentiate between patients with PD and healthy controls. METHODS Simultaneous videofluoroscopy and pharyngeal HRM were performed on 31 patients with early to mid-stage PD and 31 age- and sex-matched controls during thin-liquid swallows of 2 cc, 10 cc and comfortable sip volume. We performed multilayer-perceptron analyses on only videofluoroscopic data, only HRM data or a combination of the two. We also evaluated variability-based parameters, representing variability in manometric parameters across multiple swallows. We hypothesized that patients with PD and controls would be classified with at least 80% accuracy, and that combined videofluoroscopic and HRM data would classify participants better than either alone. KEY RESULTS Classification rates were highest with all parameters considered. Maximum classification rate was 82.3 ± 5.2%, recorded for 2 cc swallows. Inclusion of variability-based parameters improved classification rates. Classification rates using only manometric parameters were similar to those using all parameters, and rates were substantially lower for the comfortable sip volumes. CONCLUSIONS & INFERENCES Results from these classifications highlight the differences between swallowing function in patients with early and mid-stage PD and healthy controls. Early identification of swallowing dysfunction is key to developing preventative swallowing treatments for those with PD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The multisegment clot sign has been observed at the site of large-artery occlusion in patients with acute ischemic stroke. This study aimed to assess its occurrence rate and relationship with stroke etiologies in patients with acute intracranial large-artery occlusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS We included consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke who had acute intracranial large-artery occlusion and underwent perfusion CT within 8 hours after stroke onset. The multisegment clot sign was assessed on dynamic CT angiography derived from perfusion CT. The stroke etiologies were defined by the international Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment criteria. Poisson regression analyses and diagnostic testing were used to investigate the relationship between the multisegment clot sign and stroke etiologies. RESULTS Finally, 194 patients with intracranial large-artery occlusion were enrolled. According to the Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment criteria, 110 (56.7%) patients were diagnosed with cardioembolism; 43 (22.2%), with large-artery atherosclerosis; and 41 (21.1%), with undetermined etiology. The multisegment clot sign was found in 74 (38%) patients. Poisson regression analysis showed that the presence of the multisegment clot sign was significantly higher in patients with cardioembolism than in those with large-artery atherosclerosis (52.7% versus 9.3%; prevalence ratio, 1.53; 95% confidence interval, 1.03-2.90; P = .037). For determined etiologies, the sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of the multisegment clot sign for predicting cardioembolism were 52.7%, 90.7%, 93.5%, and 42.9%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The presence of the multisegment clot sign on dynamic CTA specifically indicates intracranial large-artery occlusion caused by an embolism from a cardiac source, which may be useful for acute management and secondary prevention of stroke.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To establish an analysis method for the detection of 6 arsenic compounds [AsC, AsB, As(Ⅲ), DMA, MMA and As(V)] in blood and urine by high-performance liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (HPLC-ICP-MS), and apply it to real cases. METHODS Triton was used to damage cells, and then EDTA·2Na·2H2O was used to complex arsenic compounds in cells, and sonication and protein deposition by acetonitrile were performed for sample pretreatment. With the mobile phase consisted of ammonium carbonate and ultrapure water, gradient elution was performed for obtaining the arsenic compounds in samples, which were analysed by ICP-MS with Hamilton PRP-X100 column. RESULTS The limits of detection in blood were 1.66-10 ng/mL, while the lower limits of quantitation in blood ranged from 5 to 30 ng/mL. The limits of detection in urine were 0.5-10 ng/mL, while the lower limits of quantitation in urine were 5-30 ng/mL. The relative standard deviation of inter-day and intra-day precisions was less than 10%. This method had been successfully applied to 3 cases. CONCLUSIONS This study has established an analysis method for detecting 6 common arsenic compounds in blood and urine, which can be used to detect the arsenic compounds in the blood and urine from arsenic poisoning cases as well as the patients under arsenic treatment.

Abstract
Objective: To detect the inhibitory ability of histatin 5 on the auto-aggregation of Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), and the co-aggregation of Pg with Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn); and to provide a theoretical basis for the role of oral innate immunity played in the inhibition of chronic periodontitis. Methods: Saliva and supragingival, subgingival plaque samples were collected from 49 chronic periodontitis patients in School of Stomatology, China Medical University and 27 periodontal healthy individuals. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay was used to assess the amount of histatin 5 in saliva, absolute quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) was applied to detect the DNA copies of Fn, Pg and total bacteria in supragingival and subgingival plaque samples. The effects of histatin 5 on auto- and co-aggregation were assessed by bacterial adhesion test and scanning electron microscopy. Hemagglutinin gene, arginine-gingipains gene in Pg and FomA gene in Fn were tested by relative qPCR. Independent samples t-test was used to calculate the significance between the experimental group and the control group. P-value<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: For chronic periodontitis patients, there was an inverse correlation between the concentration of histatin 5 and Fn and Pg in supragingival plaque samples (r=-0.379, r=-0.624). Similarly, an inverse correlation was also observed between the concentration of histatin 5 and subgingival Fn and Pg, respectively (r=-0.404, r=-0.314). As for periodontally healthy individuals, there was an inverse correlation between the concentration of histatin 5 and supragingival and subgingival Pg (r=-0.572, r=-0.533). Bacterial adhesion test and scanning electron microscopy certified that 25 mg/L histatin 5 inhibited the auto-aggregation of Pg-Pg and the co-aggregation of Pg-Fn. Results of qPCR showed that 25 mg/L histatin 5 up-regulated hemagglutinin gene by (14.52±3.25) fold and down-regulated FomA gene to (0.22±0.10) fold. Conclusions: Histatin 5 could inhibit the auto-aggregation of Pg-Pg and the co-aggregation of Pg-Fn by regulating hemagglutinin gene and FomA gene expression.

Abstract
One avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J) strain was isolated from 67 commercial live poultry vaccines produced by various manufacturers during 2013-2016 in China. The complete genomes of the isolate were sequenced and it was found that the genes gag and pol of the strain were relatively conservative, while the gp85 gene of the strain GX14YYA1 had the highest similarities with a field strain GX14ZS14, which was isolated from the chickens of a farm that had once used the same vaccine as the one found to be contaminated with the GX14YYA1. This is the first report of ALV-J contaminant in live poultry vaccine in China. Our finding demonstrates that vaccination of the commercial live vaccines might be a potential new route for ALV-J transmission in chickens and highlights the need for more extensive monitoring of the commercial live vaccines in China.

Abstract
Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration results in the depletion of proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which can lead to structural and mechanical loss of IVD function, ingrowth of nociceptive nerve fibres and eventually discogenic pain. Specific GAG types as well as their disaccharide patterns can be predictive of disease and degeneration in several tissues but have not been comprehensively studied within the IVD. A highly sensitive mass spectrometry based technique with multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) was used to provide characterisation of chondroitin sulphate (CS), hyaluronic acid (HA), heparan sulphate (HS) and their disaccharide sulphation patterns across different anatomical regions of human IVDs. Principal component analysis further distinguished important regional variations and proposed potential ageing variations in GAG profiles. CS was the GAG in greatest abundance in the IVD followed by HA and HS. Principal component analysis identified clear separation of GAG profiles between nucleus pulposus and annulus fibrosus in young and old specimens. Distinct patterns of predominantly expressed disaccharides of CS and HS between young and old IVD samples, provided preliminary evidence that important alterations in disaccharides occur within IVDs during ageing. This technique offered a novel approach to identify and quantify specific GAG disaccharides in human IVDs and the data presented were the first to offer insight into the spatial distribution as well as association with ageing of GAGs and GAG disaccharide sulphation patterns across the human IVD.

Abstract
This paper quantifies the pool boiling performance of R134a, R1234yf, R513A, and R450A on a flattened, horizontal reentrant cavity surface. The study showed that the boiling performance of R134a on the Turbo-ESP exceeded that of the replacement refrigerants for heat fluxes greater than 20 kWm-2. On average, the heat flux for R1234yf and R513A was 16 % and 19 % less than that for R134a, respectively, for R134a heat fluxes between 20 kWm-2 and 110 kWm-2. The heat flux for R450A was on average 57 % less than that of R134a for heat fluxes between 30 kWm-2 and 110 kWm-2. A model was developed to predict both single-component and multi-component pool boiling of the test refrigerants on the Turbo-ESP surface. The model accounts for viscosity effects on bubble population and uses the Fritz (1935) equation to account for increased vapor production with increasing superheat. Both loss of available superheat and mass transfer resistance effects were modeled for the refrigerant mixtures. For most heat fluxes, the model predicted the measured superheat to within ± 0.31 K.

Abstract
Multi-channel NIRS, so-called optical topography (OT), allows functional mapping of the cortex; however, it takes a long time to set optodes on the head and is relatively expensive. Thus, OT is not suitable as a screening test of brain disorders evaluating many subjects. Recently, a wearable two-channel continuous wave NIRS (CW-NIRS) device has been developed. Such a simple NIRS device may be applicable as a screening test of brain disorders; however, its reliability in measurements of brain function is not yet clear. Here, we tested a two-channel CW-NIRS, which employs single LED (800 nm) for measurement of total hemoglobin (t-Hb) changes. We measured t-Hb changes in the bilateral prefrontal cortex (PFC) during mental arithmetic tasks, employing the CW-NIRS and time-resolve NIRS (TNIRS). The left-right asymmetry of the PFC activity was evaluated by calculating the laterality index (LI; (R-L)/(R + L) of t-Hb), which reflects mental stress. The interval between CW-NIRS and TNIRS measurements was 1-13 days. A significant positive correlation was observed between LI measured by CW-NIRS and TNIRS. These results suggest the reliability of the simple CW-NIRS, and it may be applicable to prevent stress-induced various diseases. Finally, it should be emphasized that the left-right asymmetry of PFC activity is relatively stable.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aimed to evaluate the relationship between baseline renal function and changes in telomere length in Han Chinese. METHODS The telomere restriction fragment (TRF) length of leukocytes in the peripheral blood was measured in healthy volunteers recruited in 2014. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated based on serum creatinine (Scr) and serum cystatin C (CysC)-eGFRcys and eGFRScr-cys through the Cockcroft-Gault formula (eGFRC-G) or the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI / eGFRCKD-EPI) equation. The correlation between telomere length changes over time and renal function was analyzed. RESULTS Leukocyte TRF lengths were negatively correlated to age (r = -0.393, p < 0.001) and serum CysC (r = -0.180, p < 0.01), while positively associated with eGFRCKD-EPI, eGFRC-G, eGFRcys, and eGFRScr-cys (r = 0.182, 0.122, 0.290, and 0.254 respectively, p < 0.01). The 3-year change of telomere length was 46 bp/years. When adjusted for age, the associations between telomere length changes and baseline, subsequent TRF lengths, and serum CysC were no longer present. No association was observed between TRF length changes and renal function. CONCLUSION The rate of telomere length changes was affected by age and baseline telomere length. The telomere length changes might be important markers for aging.
