Abstract
The indoor air quality in the passenger compartment of an intercity bus is studied. A system used for the remotion of the contaminants from the compartment, based on an extraction duct, was projected using a simple, unidimensional flow model with capability to predict the air exchange rate as a function of the vehicle velocity. Some tests using tracer gan methods were performed in a real vehicle with the contaminant remotion system mounted, in order to validate the calculation model and evaluate the performances of the system. A good agreement between the predicted and the experimental results was verified and the obtained air exchange rate was quite reasonable when compared with the former situation, without extraction duct.

Abstract
This article discusses an interdisciplinary research project in which faculty from nursing and english collaborated in the assessment of students' critical thinking skills as reflected in writing portfolios. Faculty reviewed students' writing portfolios and then corresponded on email from two different universities about evidence of critical thinking in the portfolios. Findings suggest that writing portfolios can provide important evidence of critical thinking outcomes. To do this, however, faculty need to design writing assignments to foster critical thinking skills, helping students to think not only about learning to write, but also about using writing to learn.

Abstract
Several series of experiments are reported that investigate learning in the Africanized honey bee. In the first series, classical conditioning of proboscis extension was studied by confining bees to small metal tubes where they received pairings of an odor with a 3-s feeding of sucrose. After a number of odor-sucrose pairings, the bees began to extend their proboscis to the odor. Controls include Unpaired, Discrimination, and Pseudoconditioning Groups. This technique was used to look at conditioning to a light CS, and to the odors of beeswax, geraniol, citral, and hexanal. The results indicate that acquisition was best when sucrose was paired with the odor of beeswax. Conditioning to the remaining odors was roughly similar, but acquisition did not occur using a light. In a second series of experiments, odors were no longer followed by sucrose feedings and the conditioned response slowly disappeared. With the exception of geraniol as a CS, this extinction effect did not occur if the animals continued to be fed on an unpaired schedule. In a third series of experiments, conditioned inhibition was demonstrated when geraniol was used as conditioned stimuli, but no effect was found when the odors of hexanal, citral and wax were used. In a fourth series of experiments, unrestrained bees flew back and forth from the laboratory to the hive, where they were taught to distinguish targets based on color and odor. With this technique, color and odor discrimination in the Africanized bees was demonstrated. In addition, it was found that more intruder bees visited the experimental station when the stimuli used were olfactory rather than visual.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Lymphatic filariasis still represents a major public health problem in the city of Recife. In spite of the fact that previous surveys had already shown high frequency of microfilaraemia in pediatric population, the prevalence of filarial disease and the microfilaraemic pattern of this group were unknown. This paper describes the clinical-epidemiological pattern of filariasis in children and adolescents living in two highly endemic areas of Recife. METHODS The parasitological survey was done through a census carried out between December 1990 and July 1991. Thick drop technique (45 micro l) was performed on a total of 1,464 children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 14, of whom 967 were submitted to clinical examination. Positive cases had their blood recollected (60 micro l) to measure the microfilaraemic density. RESULTS The microfilaraemia prevalence was 6.4 %. In the age groups of 5 to 9 and 10 to 14 a microfilaraemia prevalence of respectively 4.6% and 8.3% was observed. The microfilaraemic density varied from 3 to 864 microfilariae per 60 microl of blood, there having been no statistically significant difference between the sexes and age groups (p<0.05). 6 cases (0.6 %) of acute filarial disease and 11 of chronic filarial disease (1.1%) were identified, hydrocele being the principal manifestation found. Lymphadenopathy was found in 22% of the children, statistical association with microfilaraemia being observed (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS The results of the parasitological survey show the strong presence of children in the contingent of microfilaraemic individuals, indicating an early and intense exposure to filariasis in the population studied.

Abstract
Our purpose was to study the role of the expression of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) and glutathione S transferase-pi (GST-pi) in predicting the response to chemotherapy, relapse-free interval, and survival of patients with synovial sarcoma (SS). Thirty-seven cases of primary SS, without regional lymph node or distant metastases, were studied. There were 17 females and 20 males, ranging in age from 7 to 81 years (median, 31 years) with tumors located in the lower extremity (n = 24) upper extremity (n = 5) and trunchus (n = 8). The cases were retrospectively studied without knowledge of clinical course to compare the immunohistochemical expression of Pgp and GST-pi, flow cytometry parameters (ploidy and % of cells in S+G2 phases), and PCNA and Ki-67 labeling of primary tumors before any therapy, with that observed in local recurrences and metastases after chemotherapy. The relationship of the aforementioned parameters with clinicopathological features (gender, age, and histo-blood group of the patients, size, location, histological subtype. TNM stage, and clinical response to chemotherapy of the tumors) was also evaluated. Results revealed that Pgp and GST-pi were expressed in 29.7% and 40.5% of the cases, respectively. In 48.6% of the tumors there was expression of a least one of the drug resistance markers. The markers were coexpressed in 25.0% of the tumors. The prevalence of Pgp expression was lower, but not significantly, in stage I-II (17.6%) than in stage III (40.0%) tumors, and also in cases without clinical progression (16.7%), than in cases with (36.0%). No such differences were observed for GST-pi expression. Pgp and GST-pi expressions were significantly associated with biphasic SS and were particularly noticeable in solid/glandular areas of biphasic SS. The expression of the drug resistance markers was not significantly associated with gender, age, and histo-blood group of the patients, dimension, location, and proliferative activity of the tumors; it was also not significantly related to relapse-free interval and survival of the patients. The expression of Pgp and GST-pi was not significantly associated either to response to chemotherapy or influenced by chemotherapy. We conclude that Pgp and GST-pi expressions are not good predictors response to of the chemotherapy in patients with localized SS. Other drug resistance mechanisms may be active in SS.

Abstract
We studied 76 patients, with the diagnosis of spontaneous intracerebral haematoma confirmed by CT scan, admitted to the Internal Medicine Department of S. Pedro Hospital, Vila Real, from 1991 to 93. Neurologic examination, radiological characteristics, previous diseases, clinical evolution and treatment were analysed to select prognostic factors in relation to length of stay, functional status and mortality. Length of stay varied between 1 and 63 days and it is estimated that 50% of these patients have a length of stay of less than 22 days. In what concerns length of stay, the localisation of haematoma (p < 0.001) and presence/absence of systemic infections (p < 0.001) were the most significant prognostic factors. The haematomas localised in the brain stem or cerebral deep massive and the occurrence of systemic complications were associated to a longer hospital stay. None of the parameters analysed were related to functional status (Rankin scale), despite the fact that functional impairment was present in 57.1% of the patients whose hemorrhage had ventricular blood, compared with 27.5% whose hemorrhage had no ventricular blood. In this series, the mortality rate was 29.2% and the presence/absence of ventricular blood was the most important prognostic factor (p < 0.001). The mortality rate in patients whose haematoma presented ventricular blood was five times higher than in the remainder.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differential effects of prenatal exposure to psychostimulants, e.g., cocaine or amphetamine, on basic growth parameters and morphometry of the medial prefrontal cortex of the rat. A group of pregnant Wistar rats was given 60 mg/kg body weight/day of cocaine hydrochloride and another group 10 mg/kg body weight/day of d-amphetamine sulfate, subcutaneously, from gestational days 8 to 22. Control groups of pregnant rats were pair-fed; litters were culled to eight pups (4 males and 4 females) weighed every other day until postnatal day 30 and every week until day 90. The body weight growth patterns modelled by a Gompertz curve were different in rats prenatally exposed to the two psychostimulants. Rats exposed to amphetamine had on average a slower growth than those exposed to cocaine, reaching an identical estimated adult weight. Allometric relationships between forebrain and body weight and cerebellum and body weight were described by two distinct postnatal growth phases that are different among the experimental groups. In the comparison of the two psychostimulants the relative cerebellum/body growth is lower in the offspring of the cocaine group than in the amphetamine group between PND14-PND30; between PND30-PND90 the relative growth rate is considerably higher in the offspring of the cocaine dams compared to that of the amphetamine dams. Groups of perfused animals were selected at postnatal days 14 and 30 to analyze the morphometric organization of the medial prefrontal cortex. In serial celloidin sections the volumes of the prefrontal cortex were determined; the number of neurons per unit volume of reference area was calculated using the stereological technique of the disector. The changes found in the morphometric parameters show a catch-up at postnatal day 30 of the "increased" density of neurons of the medial prefrontal cortex found at postnatal day 14. These data show differential growth patterns of offspring from cocaine- and amphetamine-exposed rats; a delayed development in the achievement of normal morphometric parameters of neurons in the prelimbic subarea of the medial prefrontal cortex occurs in the prenatally amphetamine-exposed offspring at early ages, and a catch-up is found after the first month of life. Complementary studies are needed to assess whether these changes have functional implications in the rats exposed prenatally to psychostimulants.

Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the effects of prenatal exposure to amphetamine in the organization of the medial prefrontal cortex of the rat, by an evaluation of growth, morphometric and neurochemical parameters. Pregnant Wistar rats were given 10 mg/kg body weight/day of D-amphetamine sulfate, subcutaneously, from gestational days 8 to 22. Control groups of pregnant rats were injected with saline, pair-fed or non-manipulated; litters were culled to eight pups (four males and four females), weighed every other day until postnatal day 30 and every week until day 90. The Gompertz model was used to study body weight evolution and the estimated growth parameters were not significantly different in the experimental groups. At postnatal days 14 and 30, the volumes of the prefrontal cortex, the fraction of neuropile occupied by neurons and the number of neurons per unit surface are were determined. The number of neurons per unit volume of reference area was calculated using the stereological technique of the dissector. For neurochemical analysis, the medial prefrontal cortex was dissected to measure the concentration of dopamine, serotonin and their metabolites. The allometric relationship of forebrain/body growth pointed to a mechanism of sparing and compensatory growth in the amphetamine exposed group. The changes found in the number of neurons per unit volume at postnatal day 14 show a catch-up at postnatal day 30. A decrease in serotonin levels was found in the amphetamine group compared with the pair-fed control, which was reflected in the ratio of serotonin to its metabolite, 5-hydroxyindolacetic acid. These changes, whether permanent or transitory, raise the possibility that some of the effects of prenatal exposure to amphetamine may be due to modifications in the neurotransmitter levels of serotonin.

Abstract
Infection by human T-cell lymphotrophic virus type I (HTLV-I) is associated with a myelopathy known as tropical spastic paraparesis (TSP). The prevalence of HTLV-I infection was found to be high in a pilot study in Bahia, Brazil. In the present study, among patients with myelopathy of unclear etiology, 27% (17/62) were immunoblot reactive to HTLV-I/II (serum and CSF), but none of 40 consecutive patients seen at the neurological clinic and having a well-established neurological diagnosis had detectable antibodies against those viruses (discrimination between HTLV-I and HTLV-II was not possible with the tests we used). The clinical syndrome of typical TSP with upper limb hyperreflexia was found to be a significant feature among the HTLV-I/II-seropositive patients compared to seronegative individuals. The 17 HTLV-I/II-reactive individuals had negative tests for syphilis, toxoplasmosis and schistosomiasis. TSP was also associated with female gender (P = 0.001). We conclude that TSP is strongly associated with HTLV-I/II infection in women in Bahia.

Abstract
There is a growing consensus that the development of the eye is affected by prenatal exposure to cocaine. Considering that the retina is affected by prenatal cocaine exposure, that this drug affects the dopaminergic systems, that the dopaminergic cells in the retina show a well-defined pattern of development and that they can be specifically stained in wholemounts by the antibody anti-tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), this study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of in utero cocaine exposure on the dopaminergic cells of the rat retina. Pregnant Wistar rats were given 60 mg (kg body weight)-1 day-1 of cocaine hydrochloride, subcutaneously, from gestational days 8 to 22. Control groups of pregnant rats were pair-fed. At PND14, 30 and 90, male offspring from different litters were perfused with fixative and the retinas processed as wholemounts and immunostained with the antibody anti-TH. Rats from other groups were decapitated at the same post-natal ages, the retinas dissected and processed by neurochemical techniques to measure the concentrations of dopamine, its metabolites and the turnover of dopamine. There was a significant increase of the retina surface area between PND14-30 in the control group, which was not found in the cocaine group. The density of the immunostained small TH cells was lower in the cocaine groups. No drug-effects were detected in the density of the large TH cells. The densities of the total large and small cells in the superior, inferior and nasal hemiretinas were similar to those found in the whole retinas; however, in the temporal hemiretinas of the cocaine groups, the density of the large TH cells was higher and of the small TH cells was lower than in controls, resulting in an absence of effects on the total density of TH-cells in this hemiretina. A transient increase in the level of dopamine metabolite (DOPAC) and of the turnover of dopamine at PND14 was detected in the cocaine groups. All quantitative parameters reached normal values, in all groups, at PND90. These results show that, during the critical periods in which catecholamines can influence the development of neurons, cocaine transiently affects the pattern of dopaminergic neurons in the retina. This may have functional importance due to the role of this neurotransmitter as a regulatory and/or trophic factor in developing neuronal circuitries.

Through illustrations from literature and the performing arts, the authors address Carper's patterns of knowing in the context of an emerging philosophical shift. First, they critique the major strengths and limitations of the article. Next, they explore an emerging philosophical shift in nursing from Carper's epistemological focus to ontological reflections on ways of being. Finally, they discuss the significance of the emerging philosophical shift and the ways of being for the science-art of nursing.

Abstract
Despite the increasing evidence of eye abnormalities, the effects of prenatal exposure to cocaine on the visual system are still poorly understood. This study was aimed at analyzing the qualitative and quantitative organization of the retinal photoreceptor cells (PR) and outer nuclear layer (ONL) after prenatal exposure to cocaine in the rat. Pregnant Wistar rats were given sc injections of cocaine hydrochloride (60 mg/kg body wt/d) or saline or were not manipulated; analyses were performed in the 14- and 30-d-old male offspring. Radial semithin and ultrathin sections of epon-embedded flat mounts of the retina showed displaced PR-like cells in the inner nuclear layer (INL), picnotic PR nuclei in INL, and ONL, and retinal PR rosettes and outer-segment debris in the subretinal space. The quantitative study showed an increased density of PR-like nuclei in the INL in PND14 cocaine-treated rats that were within normal values at PND30; no changes were detected in the PR mean nuclear diameter and in the packing density of PR nuclei in the ONL. These data constitute the first morphological demonstration of photoreceptor damage after prenatal cocaine-exposure probably owing to a direct action of the drug and/or to the cocaine-induced ischemia/hypoxia.

Abstract
To study the effects of prenatal cocaine-exposure on the developing retinal ganglion cell layer of the rat, female Wistar rats were administered subcutaneously (sc) cocaine hydrochloride (60 mg/kg body wt/d) or saline, or were not manipulated from gestational d 8-22. Male offspring were sacrificed at postnatal day 14 and 30. Radial semithin sections of epon-embedded flat mounts of the retinal quadrants were used to evaluate the following parameters along the centroperipheral axis: 1. Thickness of ganglion cells plus nerve fiber layer; 2. Nuclear size of ganglion cell layer neurons; and 3. Linear density (number per unit length) of ganglion cell layer neurons. To study the effects of cocaine and age on the retinal areas (temporal/nasal, dorsal/ventral), a repeated measures analysis of variance was used for each of the parameters mentioned above. All parameters were affected by prenatal exposure to cocaine. The thickness of the ganglion cell plus nerve fiber layer was reduced in cocaine-exposed rats in comparison with the saline group. Nuclear diameters were smaller in the cocaine than in the saline and control groups. The linear density was higher in the cocaine-exposed group than in the control and saline groups. The age-dependent decrease in the linear density from postnatal day 14-30 was higher in the cocaine-exposed rats than in the saline group; the decrease in the linear density along the centroperipheral axis found in both the control and saline groups was not significant in the cocaine-treated group. These morphometric findings strongly support the view that prenatal cocaine-exposure induces marked changes in the organization of the developing retina.

Six brains per group and per age were embedded in celloidin to calculate the volumes of the prelimbic area; sections from the other six brains were embedded in resin and processed for electron microscopy. Using semithin sections (2 microns) of layers II-III and V-VI, the following parameters were calculated: 1. The fraction of the neuropil occupied by neurons (VV); 2. The packing (NA) density; and 3. The numerical (NV) density. Qualitative alterations consisted of dispersed profiles of degenerated neurons and dendrites in the medial prefrontal cortex. No significant differences were found in the gross morphometric parameters when the cocaine group was compared with the other groups. A high interanimal variation was shown in the prelimbic volumes of postnatal day (PND) 14 cocaine-treated rats, and a a decrease in volumes was detected at PND30. Although there are some alterations in the main afferent cortical target area for dopaminergic input, its gross morphometric parameters do not seem to be sufficiently affected to account for the behavioral alterations referred to as being dependent on this brain region.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate basic parameters regarding the postnatal effects of prenatal exposure to cocaine. Timed-pregnant Wistar rats were injected SC with 60 mg/kg body weight/day of cocaine from gestational day 8 to 22. Control females were nonmanipulated and given food and lib; saline females received saline injections and pair-fed received saline and were nutritionally controlled to the cocaine-treated rats. Litters were restricted to 8 pups, weighed every other day until postnatal day (PND) 30 and every week from PND 30 to PND 90. The rats were perfused at PND 14, 30, and 90. The adequacy of adjustment of the logistic and Gompertz models to the body weights of the offspring was tested for the whole experimental period. The results from the Gompertz curve showed a higher growth rate and less time to reach 37% of expected mature body mass for the offspring of cocaine and pair-fed dams as compared with that of control and saline dams. No significant differences in the estimated adult weight were found among the experimental groups. The allometric relationship between forebrain and body weight is described by two postnatal growth phases with a first phase of rapid growth between PND 14 and 30 and a decelerating phase between PND 30 and 90. This relationship was not different among the experimental groups; however, the cocaine and pair-fed offspring showed a constant deficit in the forebrain weight as compared with the control and saline offspring.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract
Bancroftian filariasis is a major public health problem in the city of Recife in north-eastern Brazil. In some of its urban areas microfilaraemia prevalence reaches 14%. This study describes epidemiological characteristics, infection and disease, in 2 urban areas, Coque and Mustardinha, before control measures were applied. The parasitological survey was performed by a 'door-to-door' census covering 5563 subjects, aged between 5 and 65 years. Microfilaraemia was detected by the thick drop technique, using 45 microL of peripheral blood collected between 20:00 and 24:00. In both areas the prevalence of microfilaraemia was 10%, and males had higher prevalences of infection and disease than females. The prevalence of microfilaraemia was higher in the 15-24 and 25-34 years age groups in both sexes. Most microfilaria (mf) carriers (72.1% in Coque and 79.7% in Mustadrinha) had mf densities < 100/60 microL of blood. Females of reproductive age had significantly lower mf densities than males. The overall disease prevalence in both areas was 6.3%. Amongst the subjects who presented with chronic disease 15.7% were microfilaraemic. Chronic disease prevalence increased from 1.4% in the 5-14 years age group to 11.3% in the oldest age group. The most frequent clinical manifestation was hydrocele (5.4%), followed by lymphoedema (1.8%). The epidemiological pattern of filariasis in the populations studied was marked by high prevalence of microfilaraemia, low mf density, and relatively low prevalence of filarial disease considering the level of endemicity.

Abstract
The treatment of Machado-Joseph disease (MJD) has so far been purely symptomatic. Encouraged by previous publications reporting some improvement in spasticity and gait in two patients with MJD treated with sulphamethoxazole and trimethoprim (Bactrim), we carried out a double-blind, placebo controlled cross-over trial in eight patients. Three kinds of parameters were used to evaluate the treatment effect: subjective performance, neurological examination and timed tests. The results showed that Bactrim had a beneficial effect on gait and coordination and that it would be worthwhile undertaking other trials, taking into account the great clinical variability of MJD.

Abstract
Bancroftian filariasis is spreading in towns of endemic areas in Recife, northeastern Brazil, where it is a major public health problem. This paper deals with the prevalence of microfilaraemia and filarial disease in two urban areas of Recife, studying their association with individual characteristics and variables related to the exposure to the vectors. The parasitologic survey was performed through a "door-to-door" census and microfilaraemia was examined by the thick-drop technique using 45 microliters of peripheral blood collected between 20:00 and 24:00 o'clock. 2,863 individuals aged between 5 and 65 years were interviewed and submitted to clinical examination. Males aged between 15 and 44 years old presented the greatest risk of being microfilaraemic. Microfilaraemia was also significantly associated with no use of bednet to sleep. The risk of being microfilaraemic was greater among those who had lived in the studied areas for more than 5 years. The overall disease prevalence was 6.3%. Males presented the greatest risk of developing acute disease. The risk of developing chronic manifestations was also greater among males and increased with age. We found no association between time of residence, bednet use, microfilaraemia and acute and chronic disease. We may conclude that in endemic areas there are subgroups of individuals who has a higher risk of being microfilariae carriers due to different behaviours in relation to vector contact.

Abstract
Culture conditions, and other variables that modulate a cell's physiology, can bias a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification against generating a representative population profile. Two Pseudomonas putida nahR alleles were constructed in pUC19 that differ solely in a 31-bp internal segment whose sequence has been inverted. After PCR amplification, the products could be distinguished on the basis of a change in a unique restriction site. When an Escherichia coli strain carrying one nahR allele is submitted to different growth conditions, the consequences of such variations on the relative PCR amplification of whole cells can be ascertained through coamplification with a strain carrying the other allele and subsequent restriction analysis. Cells in stationary phase displayed improved amplifiability while cells grown at 42 degrees C were equally amplifiable as compared to cells grown at 37 degrees C. However, sublethal levels of tetracycline or growth in minimal medium made the PCR target in these cells relatively less amplifiable. When cells are completely lysed and the plasmid DNA is purified beforehand, the coamplification bias is eliminated. These results suggest that mixed populations containing cells in different physiological states may not be representatively amplified by PCR unless a DNA extraction step is included.

Abstract
This study reports improvements in two of the key steps, lysis of indigenous cells and DNA purification, required for achieving a rapid nonselective protocol for extracting nucleic acids directly from sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-treated sediment rich in organic matter. Incorporation of bead-mill homogenization into the DNA extraction procedure doubled the densitometrically determined DNA yield (11.8 micrograms of DNA.g [dry weight] of sediment-1) relative to incorporation of three cycles of freezing and thawing (5.2 micrograms of DNA.g [dry weight] of sediment-1). The improved DNA extraction efficiency was attributed to increased cell lysis, measured by viable counts of sediment microorganisms which showed that 2 and 8%, respectively, survived the bead-mill homogenization and freeze-thaw procedures. Corresponding measurements of suspensions of viable Bacillus endospores demonstrated that 2 and 94% of the initial number survived. Conventional, laser scanning epifluorescence phase-contrast, and differential interference-contrast microscopy revealed that small coccoid bacterial cells (1.2 to 0.3 micron long) were left intact after combined SDS and bead-mill homogenization of sediment samples. Estimates of the residual fraction of the fluorescently stained cell numbers indicated that 6% (2.2 x 10(8) cells.g [dry weight] of sediment-1) of the original population (3.8 x 10(9) cells.g [dry weight] of sediment-1) remained after treatment with SDS and bead-mill homogenization. Thus, lysis of total cells was less efficient than that of cells which could be cultured. The extracted DNA was used to successfully amplify nahR, the regulatory gene for naphthalene catabolism in Pseudomonas putida G7, by PCR.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract
The beta s cluster haplotypes were determined for 74 Brazilian patients with sickle cell anemia from three cities separated by 1,400 to 2,300 km. The cities are representative of the regions which have the largest Black populations of the country. All 138 chromosomes with typical haplotypes had one of the three most common African haplotypes. No example of the Asian or of the Cameroon haplotypes was found. The Bantu haplotype predominates in all three regions (54.8 to 73.1%), followed by the Benin haplotype (25.4 to 45.2%) and a small number of cases with the Senegal haplotype (0 to 6.9%). The mean prevalence of the Bantu haplotype of 65.9% agrees closely with historical data which indicate that 70% of the African slaves brought to Brazil originated from regions of Bantu populations.

Abstract
Cryoglobulins were measured in 29 patients (24 female, age 53.8 +/- 9.8 years) with rheumatoid arthritis (70% active). The cryoprecipitate was isolated, characterized and quantified. Cryoglobulinemia, always polyclonal or type III, was found in 83% of patients. The most frequent immunochemical isotypes found were IgG and A. Acrocyanosis was found in 50% and Raynaud phenomenon in 32% of patients with cryoglobulinemia. It is concluded that exhaustive detection of cryoglobulinemia in rheumatoid arthritis demonstrated a higher frequency than previously reported an is important for understanding pathogenesis of the disease.
