Abstract
INTRODUCTION Although many different types of Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR) membranes (resorbable/non-resorbable, including titanium mesh) have been used in the field of Periodontics till now, but this is the first and only clinical study testing the effectiveness of an ultra thin pure Titanium Membrane (Ultra Ti) as a GTR membrane in infra-bony periodontal defects. AIM To compare the efficacy of GTR in intra-bony defects with newly introduced non-resorbable barrier membrane, made of titanium called "Ultra-Ti ® GTR Membrane" versus open flap debridement. MATERIALS AND METHODS A prospective, randomized, controlled, clinical split mouth study was designed wherein each patient received both the control and test treatment. Two similar defects were selected in each of the 12 patients and were randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. Both the surgeries consisted of identical procedures except for the omission of the barrier membrane in the control sites. Full mouth Plaque Index (PI), Gingival Index (GI), Pocket Probing Depth (PPD) and Relative Attachment Level (RAL) were recorded before surgery and after 6 months and 9 months along with hard tissue measurements at the time of surgery and then at re-entry after 9 months. Radiographs were also taken before surgery and 9 months post operatively. Student's paired t-test and unpaired t-test (SPSS software version 9) were used to analyze the results. RESULTS Nine months after treatment, the test defects gained 4.375 ± 1.189mm of RAL, while the control defects yielded a significantly lower RAL gain of 3.417 ± 0.996mm. Pocket reduction was also significantly higher in the test group (4.917 ± 0.996mm) when compared with the controls (3.83 ± 0.718mm). There was a significant bone fill (54.69% of defect fill) obtained in the test site, unlike the control site (8.91%). CONCLUSION The present study demonstrated that GTR with "Ultra-Ti® GTR Membrane" resulted in a significant added benefit in comparison with open flap debridement.

Abstract
Leiomyomas are benign soft tissue neoplasms that arise from smooth muscles. Three distinctive patterns of leiomyoma have been described as piloleiomyomas, angioleiomyomas and genital leiomyomas. Here in, we report the case of 39-year male with chief complain of growth on his lower left front region of the jaw. On the basis of clinical examination, it was provisionally diagnosed as pyogenic granuloma; however, histopathological examination made to the final diagnosis of angioleiomyoma. Excision led to uneventful recovery.

Abstract
The choice to use teeth for age determination is well accepted due to their longevity ability of being resilient to change. The total of 228 extracted teeth collected from the patients visited to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, NIMS Dental College, Jaipur, the teeth were without dental fillings and without and/or cavity selected. The known age was from 21 to 70 years with the average age of 43.46 years. For age estimation the method according to Gustafson was used. Every tooth was subject to longitudinal section of the midpulpal area. The following dental parameters were studied in each case: attrition, periodontal bone loss, root translucency, secondary dentin deposition, cementum apposition and root resorption. Total scores of different parameters plotted against the chronological age and regression formula was obtained. Using this formula ages were estimated, Gustafson formula was also applied in the same scores and ages estimated. The results of the chronological and estimated age by both formulae have been statistically compared using Pearson’s correlation and regression analysis. The results showed strong correlation (0.92; p<0.001) between chronological and estimated age by using both formulae. We found the mean error of ± 5.47 by using newly derived and formula and ± 6.35 by Gustafson’s formula. As a result of our study it was found that newly derived formula provides better results in comparison with Gustafson’s formula in Indian population. A positive correlation between age and total scores of physiological changes also revealed.

Abstract
Aims: Study on prognostic significance of antenatal ultrasonography and renin angiotensin system activation in predicting disease severity in posterior urethral valves. Materials and Methods: Antenatally diagnosed hydronephrosis patients were included. Postnatally, they were divided into two groups, posterior urethral valve (PUV) and non-PUV. The studied parameters were: Gestational age at detection, surgical intervention, ultrasound findings, cord blood and follow up plasma renin activity (PRA) values, vesico-ureteric reflux (VUR), renal scars, and glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Results: A total of 25 patients were included, 10 PUV and 15 non-PUV. All infants with PUV underwent primary valve incision. GFR was less than 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 body surface area in 4 patients at last follow-up. Keyhole sign, oligoamnios, absent bladder cycling, and cortical cysts were not consistent findings on antenatal ultrasound in PUV. Cord blood PRA was significantly higher (P < 0.0001) in PUV compared to non-PUV patients. Gestational age at detection of hydronephrosis, cortical cysts, bladder wall thickness, and amniotic fluid index were not significantly correlated with GFR while PRA could differentiate between poor and better prognosis cases with PUV. Conclusions: Ultrasound was neither uniformly useful in diagnosing PUV antenatally, nor differentiating it from cases with non-PUV hydronephrosis. In congenital hydronephrosis, cord blood PRA was significantly higher in cases with PUV compared to non-PUV cases and fell significantly after valve ablation. Cord blood PRA could distinguish between poor and better prognosis cases with PUV.

Abstract
Condylar aplasia which means "failure of development" is a rare condition and can be unilateral or bilateral. Mandibular condylar Aplasia without any association with syndrome is extremely rare. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis results from trauma, infection and inadequate surgical treatment of the condylar area. Congenital cases are very rare. We report case of congenital unilateral aplasia of left mandibular condyle with ankylosis of right condyle, with an associated orthopedic deformity in a nine-year-old male patient, which may be a part of some unreported syndrome that has not been mentioned so far in literature. As per our best knowledge, no other case including such clinical features has been reported.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to assess the feasibility and challenges in a lumbotomy approach for performing upper urinary tract surgeries in adolescent children. MATERIAL AND METHODS Fifty-five adolescent children underwent various upper urinary tract surgeries from 2000 to 2012. In all patients, the kidneys and ureters were approached via a lumbotomy incision. The patients' characteristics were analysed from the hospital charts. Intraoperative and postoperative details were gathered from individual case files. Data were collected regarding: age, weight, gender, diagnosis, surgical procedure, anaesthetic details, any intraoperative problems encountered, postoperative pain, time to oral feed, length of hospitalisation and any complications. RESULTS The median age at surgery was 14 years (range 10-19). There were 42 boys and 13 girls. Median weight was 41 kg (range 28-52 kg). Surgeries performed were pyeloplasty, pyelolithotomy, nephroureterectomy and heminephrectomy. Mean duration of surgery was 80 min (range 60-130 min) with no special anaesthetic requirements. No intraoperative problems were encountered. In all patients, postoperative stay was uneventful with minimal analgesic requirements and oral feeding was started the very next day. There were no incision-related complications. CONCLUSIONS A lumbotomy incision is technically easy and safe, even in adolescent children, as an approach for upper urinary-tract surgeries.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Lymphatic metastasis has always been regarded as a major prognostic indicator for disease progression and as a guide for therapeutic strategies to oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Differentiating lymphatic vessels from blood vessels is difficult, partly due to lack of specific method for identifying lymphatics. A new lymphatic vessel reactive antibody D2-40 has been introduced recently. Here we examined immunohistochemical localization of lymphatic vessels and blood vessels using D2-40 and CD-34 respectively in different histological grades of OSCC. Their expression in intra-tumoural and peri-tumoural region was also compared. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty two formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks of excised specimens of OSCC were immunohistochemically evaluated using D2-40 and CD-34 antibodies. Lymphatic vessel density (LVD) (D2-40 positivity) and micro vessel density (MVD) (CD34 positivity) in both intratumoural and peritumoural areas were assessed by hot spot method. RESULTS Regardless of histopathological differentiation, LVD-- and MVD in peritumoural areas were found greater than intratumoural areas (p>0.05). Interestingly, other than lymphatic vessels, D2-40 positivity was also detected in tumour cells as well as in basal layer of epithelium adjacent to OSCC. Two patterns of distribution of CD34 positive vessel - circumscribing type and penetrating type were also observed in the cancer nest area. CONCLUSION D2-40 can be used as a marker to differentiate lymphatic vessels from blood vessels. Lymphatic and blood vessel proliferation might be much more extensive in the peritumoural area. D2-40 expression in epithelium adjacent to tumour indicates its role in the process of differentiation. Further, its expression in potential malignant disorder may provide better insight in predicting prognosis and pathogenesis of these lesions.

Abstract
Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a mucocutaneous disease with well-established clinical and histopathological features. It has a prevalence of approximately 1%. The etiopathogenesis is poorly understood. The annual malignant transformation is less than 0.5%. There are no effective means to either predict or to prevent such event. Clinically, OLP present as bilateral symmetrical lesion and hence lichen planus isolated to a single oral site other than the gingiva is very uncommon. On the other hand lichenoid reaction (LR) are the lesions which are similar clinically and histopathologically with OLP, but they are induced with some drug reaction and usually they do not show bilateral pattern like lichen planus. We reported a very uncommon case of unilateral lichen planus which was clinically diagnosed as LR, but in the absence of any cause-effective relationship biopsy was taken for histopathological examination Histopathologically, LR cannot be differentiated with OLP, so the final diagnosis was made on the immunohistochemical ground.
