Abstract
A high resolution crystal spectrometer utilizing a crystal in transmission geometry has been developed and experimentally optimized to measure the widths of emission lines in the 10-60 keV energy range with eV accuracy. The spectrometer achieves high spectral resolution by utilizing crystal planes with small lattice spacings (down to 2d = 0.099 nm), a large crystal bending radius and Rowland circle diameter (965 mm), and an image plate detector with high spatial resolution (60 μm in the case of the Fuji TR image plate). High resolution W L-shell and K-shell laboratory test spectra in the 10-60 keV range and Ho K-shell spectra near 47 keV recorded at the LLNL Titan laser facility are presented. The Ho K-shell spectra are the highest resolution hard x-ray spectra recorded from a solid target irradiated by a high-intensity laser.

Abstract
We investigated various diagnostic techniques to measure the 511 keV annihilation radiations. These include step-wedge filters, transmission crystal spectroscopy, single-hit CCD detectors, and streaked scintillating detection. While none of the diagnostics recorded conclusive results, the step-wedge filter that is sensitive to the energy range between 100 keV and 700 keV shows a signal around 500 keV that is clearly departing from a pure Bremsstrahlung spectrum and that we ascribe to annihilation radiation.

Abstract
Filamentous fungi from the genus Trichoderma have been widely investigated due to their considerable production of important biotechnological enzymes. Previous studies have demonstrated that the T. harzianum strain IOC-3844 has a high degree of cellulolytic activity. After excluding the native signal peptide, the open reading frame of the T. harzianum endoglucanase III enzyme was cloned in the expression vector pPICZαA, enabling protein secretion to the culture medium. The recombinant plasmid was used to transform Pichia pastoris. Recombinant expression in the selected clone yielded 300 mg pure enzyme per liter of induced medium. The recombinant enzyme proved to be active in a qualitative analysis using Congo red. A quantitative assay, using dinitrosalicylic acid, revealed a high degree of activity at pH 5.5 and around 48°C. This information contributes to our understanding of the cellulolytic repertory of T. harzianum and the determination of a set of enzymes that can be incorporated into mixes for second-generation ethanol production.

Abstract
A global phylogeny for chelonid fibropapilloma-associated herpesvirus (CFPHV), the most likely aetiological agent of fibropapillomatosis (FP) in sea turtles, was inferred, using dated sequences, through Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo analysis and used to estimate the virus evolutionary rate independent of the evolution of the host, and to resolve the phylogenetic positions of new haplotypes from Puerto Rico and the Gulf of Guinea. Four phylogeographical groups were identified: eastern Pacific, western Atlantic/eastern Caribbean, mid-west Pacific and Atlantic. The latter comprises the Gulf of Guinea and Puerto Rico, suggesting recent virus gene flow between these two regions. One virus haplotype from Florida remained elusive, representing either an independent lineage sharing a common ancestor with all other identified virus variants or an Atlantic representative of the lineage giving rise to the eastern Pacific group. The virus evolutionary rate ranged from 1.62×10(-4) to 2.22×10(-4) substitutions per site per year, which is much faster than what is expected for a herpesvirus. The mean time for the most recent common ancestor of the modern virus variants was estimated at 192.90-429.71 years ago, which, although more recent than previous estimates, still supports an interpretation that the global FP pandemic is not the result of a recent acquisition of a virulence mutation(s). The phylogeographical pattern obtained seems partially to reflect sea turtle movements, whereas altered environments appear to be implicated in current FP outbreaks and in the modern evolutionary history of CFPHV.

Abstract
ABSTRACTThrough the use of nanostructures and nanocomposites, the electrochemical activity of metal fluoride materials was opened as potential candidates as next generation high energy density positive electrodes for Li batteries. This class of materials, utilizing FeF3 as an example, is shown to exhibit good reversible behavior of approximately 200 mAh/g in the 3V region. The specific capacity is extended to 600 mAh/g when the discharge is extended to take into account the additional specific capacity associated with a 2V plateau. Through the use of XRD, SAED and high resolution TEM, the 2V reaction mechanism was associated to a reversible metal fluoride conversion mechanism. It is shown that LiF + Fe nanocomposite can be utilized as initial components in order to make the technology suitable for Li-ion applications. Although exhibiting relatively poor rate capabilities at this initial stage, reversible conversion metal fluorides enable for the first time the utilization of all the redox states of the constituent metal in a reversible manner in the positive electrode. This translates to 4X the specific capacity and double the energy density of today's state of the art LiCoO2.

Abstract
We report the case of a 64-year-old male presenting with a rapidly enlarging painful violaceous plaque in the left buttock and posterior thigh, following a gluteal intramuscular injection of benzathine penicillin. Associated urinary incontinence and lower left limb paresis were consistent with sciatic and lower sacral nerve damage, as confirmed by electromyography. Additional underlying muscular damage was observed in ultrasound and computer tomodensitometry scans and supported by high serum levels of creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase. Aggressive treatment was performed with fluid expansion, intravenous steroid bolus, vasodilators and anticoagulation, resulting in slow improvement of cutaneous and muscular lesions. However, no significant effect was observed on neurologic dysfunction after 6 months of regular neuromuscular rehabilitation. Nicolau Livedoid Dermatitis is a rare and potentially fatal condition showing variable levels of tissue impairment and unpredictable course and prognosis. Specific treatment is not consensual and the efficacy of any particular treatment remains to be established.

Abstract
As part of the 15th International Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Workshop (IHIWS), seven centers participated in a collaborative project to determine whether any significant humoral sensitization occurred post-transplant among recipients of HLA partially mismatched hematopoietic cell transplants (HCTs). A total of 140 donor/recipient pairs were enrolled with a total of 367 pre-and post-transplant sera analyzed. The majority of the samples (69.1%) were obtained within 30-90 days post-HCT. HLA-specific antibodies were defined using single antigen bead assays on a Luminex platform with a positive cutoff value of 1000 normalized median fluorescence intensity (MFI). There was an overall incidence of post-HCT sensitization toward donor HLA mismatches of 5.7%; however, all cases were among recipients of one HLA haplotype-mismatched grafts under nonmyeloablative, pre-transplant conditioning. Among the one haplotype-mismatched recipients, 15.7% (8/51) developed donor HLA-specific antibodies and 29.4% also had antibodies directed toward third party HLA antigens. Among the donor-specific antibodies, 9.8% were directed toward HLA class I antigens; 7.8% were against class II antigens; and 2.0% had both class I and II specificity. The relative strength of post-transplant antibodies was low with no significant difference in the mean maximum MFI values between third party and donor-specific antibodies. Because only a small number (10.2%) of the post-transplant samples were obtained 180 days or more post-HCT, longer term study is needed to evaluate any clinical relevance of these low-to-moderate levels of donor-specific antibody in one haplotype-mismatched recipients, as well as to determine whether any other antibodies occur at later times.
