Abstract
Abstract
A new semiaromatic polyamide, PA9-T, was melt-spun at take-up speeds from 200 to 1000m min−1. The as-spun fibers were drawn with CO2 laser-heated drawing to their maximal draw ratio (DRmax). The drawing stress was recorded during this process. The effects of take-up speed of melt-spinning on maximally drawn fibers were characterized through measurements of density, birefringence, wide-angle X-ray diffraction, crystal orientation, tensile testing, and dynamic viscoelastic analysis. All as-spun fibers were essentially amorphous and their birefringence and density increased slightly with the increase of take-up speed. Lower take-up speeds yielded higher DRmax values, and fibers drawn to their DRmax exhibited superior structure and mechanical properties. The tensile strength and Young's modulus achieved were the highest reported to date for PA9-T: 737 MPa and 5.8 GPa, respectively.

Abstract
We report the first evidence for the η(b)(2S) using the h(b)(2P)→η(b)(2S)γ transition and the first observation of the h(b)(1P)→η(b)(1S)γ and h(b)(2P)→η(b)(1S)γ transitions. The mass and width of the η(b)(1S) and η(b)(2S) are measured to be m(η(b)(1S))=(9402.4±1.5±1.8) MeV/c(2), m(η(b)(2S))=(9999.0±3.5(-1.9)(+2.8)) MeV/c(2), and Γ(η(b)(1S))=(10.8(-3.7-2.0)(+4.0+4.5)) MeV. We also update the h(b)(1P) and h(b)(2P) mass measurements. We use a 133.4 fb(-1) data sample collected at energies near the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Outcomes of liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have improved owing to better surgical techniques and patient selection. Portal hypertension may influence outcome but the preoperative definition and role of portal hypertension are far from clear. The aim of this study was to elucidate the influence of portal venous pressure (PVP) measured directly during surgery on outcomes of liver resection in patients with HCC. METHODS Patients who had resection of HCC between 1997 and 2009, and who underwent direct measurement of PVP immediately after laparotomy were enrolled. These patients were divided into groups with high (at least 20 cmH(2)O) and low (less than 20 cmH(2)O) PVP. The influence of PVP on overall and recurrence-free survival was analysed and prognostic factors were identified. RESULTS A total of 177 patients were enrolled, 129 in the low-PVP group and 48 in the high-PVP group. The 5-year overall survival rate (63·7 versus 31 per cent; P < 0·001) and recurrence-free survival rate (52·5 versus 12 per cent; P < 0·001) were significantly higher in patients with low PVP. In multivariable analysis, two or more tumours, tumour diameter at least 5 cm, high PVP, grade B liver damage and Hepatic Activity Index (HAI) grade 7 or more were significant predictors of poorer survival after liver resection. Two or more tumours, tumour diameter at least 5 cm and HAI grade 7 or more were significant predictors of poorer recurrence-free survival. CONCLUSION High PVP was associated with poor long-term outcome after liver resection for HCC.

Abstract
The detection of unruptured intracranial aneurysms is a major subject in magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) images. However,it is difficult for radiologists to detect small aneurysms on the maximum intensity projection (MIP) images, because adjacent vessels overlap with the aneurysm. The purpose of this study was to develop an automated computerized detection of aneurysms in order to assist radiologists' interpretation as a "second opinion." The vessels were first segmented from background by use of gray-level thresholding and region growing technique. The gradient concentrate (GC) filter was then applied to the segmented vessels for enhancement of aneurysm. The initial aneurysm candidate was identified in the GC image with a gray level threthold. For removal of false positives (FPs), we determined three features, i.e.,size,sphericity, and mean value of GC image in each of the candidate regions. Finally, the rule-based schemes with these features and quadratic discriminant analysis were applied for distinction between aneurysms and FPs. The sensitivity of our method for detection of aneurysms was 100% (7/7) with 1.85 FPs per patient. With our computerized scheme, all aneurysms were detected correctly with low FP rates, and would be useful in assisting radiologists for identifying correct aneurysms and for reducing the interpretation time.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recently, applications of less invasive liver surgery in living donor hepatectomy (LDH) have been reported. The objective of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a hybrid method with a midline incision for LDH. METHODS Hemihepatectomy using the hybrid method was performed in the fifteen most recent among 150 living donors who underwent surgery between 1997 and August 2011. Six donors underwent right hemihepatectomy and 9 underwent left hemihepatectomy. An 8-cm subxiphoid midline incision was created for hand assistance during liver mobilization and graft extraction. After sufficient mobilization of the liver, the hand-assist/extraction incision was extended to 12 cm for the right hemihepatectomy and 10 cm for a left hemihepatectomy. Encircling the hepatic veins and hilar dissection were performed under direct vision. Parenchymal transection was performed with the liver hanging maneuver. Bile duct division was performed after visualizing the planned transection point by encircling the bile duct using a radiopaque marker filament under real-time C-arm cholangiography. RESULTS All procedures were completed without any extra subcostal incision. All grafts were safely extracted through the 10-12-cm upper midline incision without mechanical injury. No donors required an allogeneic transfusion; all of them have returned to their preoperative activity levels. CONCLUSION LDH by the hybrid method with a short upper midline incision is a safe procedure.

Abstract
The secretion of HCO3(-) in the duodenum is increased by mucosal acidification, and this process is modulated by gas mediators such as nitric oxide (NO), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and carbon monoxide (CO), in addition to prostaglandins (PGs). The secretion is increased by NOR3 (NO donor), NaHS (H2S donor), and CORM-2 (CO donor). The HCO3(-) responses to NOR3 and CORM-2 are attenuated by indomethacin, while that to NaHS is mitigated by indomethacin and L-NAME as well as sensory deafferentation. NOR3 and CORM-2 increase mucosal PGE2 production, while H2S increases mucosal PGE2 content and luminal NO release. The HCO3(-) response to mucosal acidification is attenuated by indomethacin, propargylglycine, and SnPP, each inhibiting PG, H2S and CO production, respectively. The acid-induced duodenal damage is worsened when either PG, H2S or CO is lacking. These findings suggest that 1) NO, H2S, and CO, generated endogenously or exogenously, stimulate HCO3(-) secretion in the duodenum; 2) the stimulatory action of NO and CO is mediated, at least partly, by endogenous PGs, while that of H2S is mediated by PGs and NO as well as sensory neurons; 3) these gas mediators are involved in the local regulation of acid-induced HCO3(-) secretion, in addition to endogenous PGs; 4) the acid-induced duodenal damage is worsened by agents inhibiting the endogenous production of NO, H2S or CO. It is assumed that these gas mediators play a role in maintaining the integrity of the duodenal mucosa by modulating the secretion of HCO3(-).

Abstract
Our purpose in this study is to segment the rectus abdominis muscle region in X-ray CT images, and we propose a novel recognition method based on the shape model. In this method, three steps are included in the segmentation process. The first is to generate a shape model for the rectus abdominis muscle. The second is to recognize anatomical feature points corresponding to the origin and insertion of the muscle, and the third is to segment the rectus abdominis muscles based on the shape model. We generated the shape model from 20 CT cases and tested the model to recognize the muscle in 20 other CT cases. The average values for the Jaccard similarity coefficient (JSC) and true segmentation coefficient (TSC) were 0.841 and 0.863, respectively. The results suggest the validity of the model-based segmentation for the rectus abdominis muscle.

Abstract
We report first observations of B(s)(0) → J/ψη and B(s)(0) → J/ψη'. The results are obtained from 121.4 fb(-1) of data collected at the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ e- collider. We obtain the branching fractions B(B(s)(0) → J/ψη)=[5.10±0.50(stat)±0.25(syst)(-0.79)(+1.14)(N(B(s)(*) B(s)(*))]×10(-4), and B(B(s)(0) → J/ψη')=[3.71±0.61(stat)±0.18(syst)(-0.57)(+0.83)(N(B(s)(*) B(s)(*))]×10(-4). The ratio of the two branching fractions is measured to be (B(B(s) → J/ψη'))/(B(B(s) → J/ψη))=0.73±0.14(stat)±0.02(syst).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies were performed to determine if early treatment with an angiotensin II (Ang II) receptor blocker (ARB), olmesartan, prevents the onset of microalbuminuria by attenuating glomerular podocyte injury in Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus. METHODS OLETF rats were treated with either a vehicle, olmesartan (10 mg/kg/day) or a combination of nonspecific vasodilators (hydralazine 15 mg/kg/day, hydrochlorothiazide 6 mg/kg/day, and reserpine 0.3 mg/kg/day; HHR) from the age of 7-25 weeks. RESULTS OLETF rats were hypertensive and had microalbuminuria from 9 weeks of age. At 15 weeks, OLETF rats had higher Ang II levels in the kidney, larger glomerular desmin-staining areas (an index of podocyte injury), and lower gene expression of nephrin in juxtamedullary glomeruli, than nondiabetic Long-Evans Tokushima Otsuka (LETO) rats. At 25 weeks, OLETF rats showed overt albuminuria, and higher levels of Ang II in the kidney and larger glomerular desmin-staining areas in superficial and juxtamedullary glomeruli compared to LETO rats. Reductions in mRNA levels of nephrin were also observed in superficial and juxtamedullary glomeruli. Although olmesartan did not affect glucose metabolism, it decreased blood pressure and prevented the renal changes in OLETF rats. HHR treatment also reduced blood pressure, but did not affect the renal parameters. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that podocyte injury occurs in juxtamedullary glomeruli prior to superficial glomeruli in type 2 diabetic rats with microalbuminuria. Early treatment with an ARB may prevent the onset of albuminuria through its protective effects on juxtamedullary glomerular podocytes.

Abstract
We present a precise measurement of the CP violation parameter sin2φ1 and the direct CP violation parameter A(f) using the final data sample of 772×10(6) BB[over ¯] pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. One neutral B meson is reconstructed in a J/ψK(S)(0), ψ(2S)K(S)(0), χ(c1)K(S)(0), or J/ψK(L)(0) CP eigenstate and its flavor is identified from the decay products of the accompanying B meson. From the distribution of proper-time intervals between the two B decays, we obtain the following CP violation parameters: sin2φ1=0.667±0.023(stat)±0.012(syst) and A(f)=0.006±0.016(stat)±0.012(syst).

Abstract
We report a measurement of the CP-violation parameter sin2φ1 at the Υ(5S) resonance using a new tagging method, called "B-π tagging." In Υ(5S) decays containing a neutral B meson, a charged B, and a charged pion, the neutral B is reconstructed in the J/ψK(S)(0) CP-eigenstate decay channel. The initial flavor of the neutral B meson at the moment of the Υ(5S) decay is opposite to that of the charged B and may thus be inferred from the charge of the pion without reconstructing the charged B. From the asymmetry between B-π(+) and B-π(-) tagged J/ψK(S)(0) yields, we determine sin2φ1=0.57±0.58(stat)±0.06(syst). The results are based on 121 fb(-1) of data recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider.

Abstract
Abnormal immunological responses to certain microbial agents may play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of Kawasaki disease (KD). The association studies between histo-blood group genes (Lewis and ABO blood types) and various types of infectious diseases or vasculopathy have been carried out based on the fact that glycosylated antigens could directly mediate microbial infections. We attempted to clarify the role of blood type antigens in the development of KD and coronary artery lesions in KD patients. The subjects included 164 KD patients enrolled from 1998 to 2003 (1st group), 232 patients from 2004 to 2009 (2nd group), and 223 healthy children and 118 patients with growth hormone deficiency as controls. The genotyping of the FUT2 and FUT3 genes, and ABO genotypes, was determined with the TaqMan SNP assay and allele-specific polymerase chain reaction. No significant differences were observed in the genotypes and allele frequencies of the FUT2 and FUT3 genes between the groups. The frequency of the BB blood genotype was significantly higher in KD patients with coronary artery lesions in the 1st and 2nd groups than in the controls (17% and 14% vs. 5%, P = 0.0020). This is the first report to investigate the roles of ABO and Lewis blood types in the development of KD, and in the formation of coronary artery lesions in KD patients. These data suggest that the ABO blood type may play a role in the development of coronary artery lesions in KD patients.

Abstract
The Double Chooz experiment presents an indication of reactor electron antineutrino disappearance consistent with neutrino oscillations. An observed-to-predicted ratio of events of 0.944±0.016(stat)±0.040(syst) was obtained in 101 days of running at the Chooz nuclear power plant in France, with two 4.25 GW(th) reactors. The results were obtained from a single 10 m(3) fiducial volume detector located 1050 m from the two reactor cores. The reactor antineutrino flux prediction used the Bugey4 flux measurement after correction for differences in core composition. The deficit can be interpreted as an indication of a nonzero value of the still unmeasured neutrino mixing parameter sin(2)2θ(13). Analyzing both the rate of the prompt positrons and their energy spectrum, we find sin(2)2θ(13)=0.086±0.041(stat)±0.030(syst), or, at 90% C.L., 0.017<sin(2)2θ(13)<0.16.

Abstract
We report the observation of two narrow structures in the mass spectra of the π(±)Υ(nS) (n=1, 2, 3) and π(±)h(b)(mP) (m=1, 2) pairs that are produced in association with a single charged pion in Υ(5S) decays. The measured masses and widths of the two structures averaged over the five final states are M(1)=(10,607.2±2.0) MeV/c2, Γ(1)=(18.4±2.4) MeV, and M(2)=(10,652.2±1.5) MeV/c2, Γ(2)=(11.5±2.2) MeV. The results are obtained with a 121.4 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector in the vicinity of the Υ(5S) resonance at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider.

Abstract
We report the first observations of the spin-singlet bottomonium states h(b)(1P) and h(b)(2P). The states are produced in the reaction e(+)e(-)→h(b)(nP)π(+)π(-) using a 121.4 fb(-1) data sample collected at energies near the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We determine M[h(b)(1P)]=(9898.2(-1.0-1.1)(+1.1+1.0)) MeV/c(2) and M[h(b)(2P)]=(10,259.8±0.6(-1.0)(+1.4)) MeV/c(2), which correspond to P-wave hyperfine splittings ΔM(HF)=(+1.7±1.5) and (+0.5(-1.2)(+1.6)) MeV/c(2), respectively. The significances of the h(b)(1P) and h(b)(2P) are 5.5σ and 11.2σ, respectively. We find that the production of the h(b)(1P) and h(b)(2P) is not suppressed relative to the production of the Υ(1S), Υ(2S), and Υ(3S).

BACKGROUND Recently, transesophageal endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) has been evaluated for mediastinal nodal staging (N staging) of lung cancer, as this technique is less invasive than mediastinoscopy and possibly more accurate than 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography with computed tomography (PET-CT). However, EUS-FNA does not provide access to pretracheal and hilar lymph nodes. More recently, endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) has been introduced as a novel technique for accessing pretracheal and hilar lymph nodes. Although the combined endoscopic approach of EUS-FNA and EBUS-TBNA is presumably more accurate than PET-CT, only a few reports have quantitatively evaluated its diagnostic ability. Therefore, we prospectively assessed the diagnostic yield of this combined endoscopic approach for mediastinal N staging of lung cancer. METHODS A consecutive series of 120 patients with suspected resectable lung cancer on CT findings underwent PET-CT and combined EUS-FNA/EBUS-TBNA. The accuracy and other diagnostic indices of the combined approach in mediastinal N staging were compared with those of PET-CT. RESULTS Among the enrolled patients, a final pathological N stage was established in 110 patients. The accuracy of the combined approach using EUS-FNA and EBUS-TBNA was significantly higher than that of PET-CT (90.0 % vs. 73.6 %; P < 0.0001). The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values were respectively 71.8 %, 100 %, 100 %, and 86.6 % for the combined approach vs. 47.4 %, 87.5 %, 66.7 %, and 75.9 % for PET-CT. CONCLUSIONS The combined endoscopic approach using EUS-FNA and EBUS-TBNA provided excellent diagnostic performance. Therefore, this approach is strongly recommended before surgery or mediastinoscopy to avoid futile thoracotomy and surgical intervention.

Abstract
We report the first observation of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D(+)→K(+)η((')) using a 791 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The ratio of the branching fractions of doubly Cabibbo-suppressed relative to singly Cabibbo-suppressed D(+)→π(+)η((')) decays are B(D(+)→K(+)η)/B(D(+)→π(+)η)=(3.06±0.43±0.14)% and B(D(+)→K(+)η')/B(D(+)→π(+)η')=(3.77±0.39±0.10)%. From these, we find that the relative final-state phase difference between the tree and annihilation amplitudes in D(+) decays, δ(TA), is (72±9)° or (288±9)°. We also report the most precise measurements of CP asymmetries to date: A(CP)(D(+)→π(+)η)=(+1.74±1.13±0.19)% and A(CP)(D(+)→π(+)η')=(-0.12±1.12±0.17)%.

Abstract
The T2K experiment observes indications of ν(μ) → ν(e) appearance in data accumulated with 1.43×10(20) protons on target. Six events pass all selection criteria at the far detector. In a three-flavor neutrino oscillation scenario with |Δm(23)(2)| = 2.4×10(-3) eV(2), sin(2)2θ(23) = 1 and sin(2)2θ(13) = 0, the expected number of such events is 1.5±0.3(syst). Under this hypothesis, the probability to observe six or more candidate events is 7×10(-3), equivalent to 2.5σ significance. At 90% C.L., the data are consistent with 0.03(0.04) < sin(2)2θ(13) < 0.28(0.34) for δ(CP) = 0 and a normal (inverted) hierarchy.

Abstract
Hydrocortisone was investigated for its ability todifferentiate human leukemia KU812 cells into maturehematopoietic cells including basophils. Hydrocortisonetreatment increased the amount of intracellular histamine byup-regulation of L-histidine decarboxylase (HDC) mRNA andenhanced cell surface expression of the high affinity IgEreceptor FcepsilonRI. Histamine is catalyzed from L-histidine byHDC, which in blood cell types is only expressed in basophilsand mast cells. Cells, on which the FcepsilonRI expression wasenhanced by hydrocortisone, were shown to release histaminewhen stimulated with anti-IgE antibody after sensitizationwith myeloma IgE, implying that the induced FcepsilonRI moleculeswere able to transduce a signal for degranulation. Theseresults suggest that hydrocortisone promotes differentiationof KU812 cells into functionally mature basophilic cells.

Abstract
The single-shot spatial characteristics of the vacuum ultraviolet self-amplified spontaneous emission of a free electron laser (FEL) is measured at different stages of amplification up to saturation with a Hartmann wavefront sensor. We show that the fundamental radiation at 61.5 nm tends towards a single-mode behavior as getting closer to saturation. The measurements are found in good agreement with simulations and theory. A near diffraction limited wavefront was measured. The analysis of Fresnel diffraction through the Hartmann wavefront sensor hole array also provides some further insight for the evaluation of the FEL transverse coherence, of high importance for various applications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the genetic effects of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathway on retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). STUDY DESIGN A prospective study from a tertiary center that enrolled 204 Japanese infants (<35 weeks of gestational age (GA)) having no anomalies. ROP developed in 127, but not in 77 infants. The relative severity was defined as non-severe, moderate and severe ROP for GA, based on the staging criteria. VEGF (g.-634G>C, g.+13553C>T) and VEGF-receptor (KDR g.+4422(AC)11 to 14, Flt-1 c.+6724(TG)13 to 23) gene polymorphisms and clinical variables were assessed by uni/multivariate analyses. RESULT The frequency of polymorphisms did not differ between ROP and non-ROP patients. The TT genotype of g.+13553 showed a higher odds ratio for non-severe ROP than CC genotype (P=0.006). Multivariate analyses indicated that low birth weight, blood transfusion and respiratory distress syndrome, but not polymorphisms, were the risk factors of advanced ROP (≥ stage 3). CONCLUSION A genotype of the VEGF pathway weakly affects the severity of ROP compared with other clinical factors.

Abstract
We report the observation of B(s)⁰→J/ψf₀(980) and evidence for B(s)⁰→J/ψf₀(1370), which are CP eigenstate decay modes. These results are obtained from 121.4 fb⁻¹ of data collected at the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e⁻ collider. We measure the branching fractions B(B(s)⁰→J/ψf₀(980); f₀(980)→π(+)π⁻)=(1.16(-0.19)(+0.31)(stat)(-0.17)(+0.15)(syst)(-0.18)(+0.26)(N(B(s)((*))B(s)((*)))))×10⁻⁴ with a significance of 8.4σ, and B(B(s)⁰→J/ψf₀(1370); f₀(1370)→π(+)π⁻)=(0.34(-0.14)(+0.11)(stat)(-0.02)(+0.03)(syst)(-0.05)(+0.08)(N(B(s)((*))B(s)((*)))))×10⁻⁴ with a significance of 4.2σ. The last error listed is due to uncertainty in the number of produced B(s)((*))B(s)((*)) pairs.

Abstract
Hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) is a serious complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A 15-year-old female with lupus-nephritis developed HPS. Bone marrow study showed florid thrombophagocytosis. There was no associated infection. High-dose methylprednisolone therapy ameliorated HPS. However, atrial fibrillation (Af) repeated after the infusion and required direct-current cardioversion. No underlying diseases were found in the heart and endocrine system. Chest roentgenogram and echocardiography were normal. Electrocardiogram showed slightly prolonged PR interval in sinus rhythm. Af occurred at high circulating levels of interferon-γ and interleukin (IL)-10, but not IL-6, IL-2, tumor necrosis factor-α, C-reactive protein or catecholamines. This is the first observation that high-dose corticosteroid induced Af in a case of lupus-HPS. Af is unusual in SLE children without cardiac disease, while conduction defect occurs associated with lupus-myocarditis. Lupus-HPS may be an aggressive SLE subset with cardiac involvement. High-dose corticosteroid infusion controls lupus activity, but could disclose the cardiac stress in lupus-HPS patients.

Abstract
Behçet's disease is a chronic, relapsing, multisystem inflammatory disease of unknown etiology. Nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) essential modulator (NEMO) that is required for the activation of NF-κB plays an important role in inflammation. To investigate the role of NEMO in the pathogenesis of Behçet's disease, we analyzed NEMO gene and its expression pattern in tissues in a family with Behçet's disease. We found a heterozygous mutation (1217A> T, D406V) in a 6-year-old girl and her mother. Skewed X-chromosome inactivation was not observed in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells as well as in oral and intestinal mucosa of the patients. Accordingly, there was a significant proportion of peripheral blood monocytes that did not produce sufficient intracellular tumor necrosis factor-α with the stimulation of lipopolysaccharide. Heterozygous NEMO mutation is a cause of familial occurrence of Behçet's disease in female patients.

Abstract
We herein report a case study of a female newborn with multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies who presented with generalized seizures, hypoglycemia and hyperammonemia at 18 h after birth. In addition, we review the association of hyperammonemia in neonates with multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies reported in the previous literature. This unrecognized association should be taken into account for the early diagnosis and treatment of these patients.

Abstract
7 Background: S-1/cisplatin is regarded as one of the standard regimens in Japan by the SPIRITS trial, but cisplatin needs in-hospital treatment for hydration. Phase II data of S-1/DOC showed long survival by outpatient basis. Then we hypothesized that S-1/DOC can be the standard regimen for AGC as outpatient basis. Methods: This is a prospective, multinational randomized phase III study in pts with AGC. Arm A: pts receive S-1 (40mg/m2) twice daily 14 days followed by 7 days rest plus DOC (40 mg/m2) iv on day 1. Arm B: pts receive S-1 28days followed by 14 days rest. Eligibility criteria included measurable/nonmeasurable AGC, age 20–79 and no prior chemotherapy. Primaryendpoint was OS, secondary endpoints were TTP, RR and safety. Based on planned sample size of 628 pts, the trial was designed tohave 90% power to detect an improvement in OS from 300 to 400 days. The accrual period was 3 years with 2 years follow up. Results: 639 pts (Arm A/B, 316/323) were registered and the eligible pts were 635 (314/321).The MST for Arm A was 386 and for Arm B was 327days. The OS for Arm A was not superior to Arm B (log-rank p = 0.1595, HR: 0.88). The TTP for Arm A was 160 and for Arm B was 126 days. The TTP for Arm A was significantly superior to Arm B (log-rank p < 0.0003, HR: 0.74). RR of Arm A was significantly higher than Arm B (36.0%/ 24.4%, p = 0.01). By subset analysis of OS in pre-stratified nonmeasurable AGC, the MST for Arm A was significantly superior to for Arm B (523/335, log-lank p = 0.018). Most common grade 3/4 toxicities were: neutropenia, 31.4% vs. 4.4%; leucopenia, 22.1% vs. 2.5% and anorexia; 15.4% vs. 12.1%. Conclusions: The combination ofS-1/DOC did not meet primary endpoint of OS, but of OS in nonmeasurable group and TTP of the S-1/DOC was significantly superior to that of the S-1 alone. We supposed that recent development of the second-line chemotherapy was influenced to our results. This regimen can be regarded as one of the standard treatments for AGC as outpatient basis. Abstract
We have made the first observation of B(s)(0)→D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)- decays using 23.6 fb(-1) of data recorded by the Belle experiment running on the Υ(5S) resonance. The branching fractions are measured to be B(B(s)(0)→D(s)+ D(s)-)=(1.03(-0.32-0.25)(+0.39+0.26))%, B(B(s)(0)→D(s)(*±) D(s)(∓))=(2.75(-0.71)(+0.83)±0.69)%, and B(B(s)(0)→D(s)*+ D(s)*-)=(3.08(-1.04-0.86)(+1.22+0.85))%; the sum is B[B(s)(0)→D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)-]=(6.85(-1.30-1.80)(+1.53+1.79))%. Assuming B(s)(0)→D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)- saturates decays to CP-even final states, the branching fraction determines the ratio ΔΓ(s)/cosφ, where ΔΓ(s) is the difference in widths between the two B(s)-B(s) mass eigenstates, and φ is a CP-violating weak phase. Taking CP violation to be negligibly small, we obtain ΔΓ(s)/Γ(s)=0.147(-0.030)(+0.036)(stat)(-0.041)(+0.042)(syst), where Γ(s) is the mean decay width.

Abstract
We report a first measurement of inclusive B→Xsη decays, where Xs is a charmless state with unit strangeness. The measurement is based on a pseudoinclusive reconstruction technique and uses a sample of 657×10(6)BB pairs accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. For MXs < 2.6 GeV/c2, we measure a branching fraction of [26.1±3.0(stat)-2.1+1.9(syst)-7.1+4.0(model)]×10(-5) and a direct CP asymmetry of ACP=-0.13±0.04-0.03+0.02. Over half of the signal occurs in the range MXs > 1.8 GeV/c2.

Abstract
We search for dimuon decays of a low mass particle in the decays B0→K*0 X and B0→ρ0 X using a data sample of 657×10(6)BB events collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. We find no evidence for such a particle in the mass range from 212 MeV/c2 to 300 MeV/c2 for lifetimes below 10(-12) s, and set upper limits on its branching fractions. In particular, we search for a particle with a mass of 214.3 MeV/c2 reported by the HyperCP experiment, and obtain upper limits on the products B(B0→K*0 X)×B(X→μ+ μ- )<2.26(2.27)×10(-8) and B(B0→ρ0 X)×B(X→μ+ μ-)<1.73(1.73)×10(-8) at 90% C.L. for a scalar (vector) X particle.

First observations of the B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) π+, B(s)(0) → D(s)(-) ρ+ and B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) ρ+ decays are reported together with measurements of their branching fractions: B(B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) π+) = [2.4(-0.4)(+0.5)(stat) ± 0.3(syst) ± 0.4(f(s))]×10(-3), B(B(s)(0) → D(s)(-) ρ+) = [8.5(-1.2)(+1.3)(stat) ± 1.1(syst) ± 1.3(f(s))]×10(-3) and B(B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) ρ+) = [11.9(-2.0)(+2.2)(stat) ± 1.7(syst) ± 1.8(f(s))]×10(-3) (f(s) = N(B(s)(*) B(s)(*))/N(bb)). From helicity-angle distributions, we measured the longitudinal polarization fraction in B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) ρ+ decays to be f(L)(B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) ρ+) = 1.05(-0.10)(+0.08)(stat)(-0.04)(+0.03)(syst). These results are based on a 23.6 fb(-1) data sample collected at the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ e- collider.

Abstract
This paper reports the structural properties of the high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) treated double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) based on Raman, XRD and TEM experiments. It was found that the DWCNTs are more stable toward HPHT treatment than the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). We propose that this is probably because the DWCNTs tend not to be deformed by compression and thereby they are less reactive under pressure compared to SWCNTs.
