Abstract
Summary
The PET radionuclide Cu-64 (t
1/2 = 12.7 h) can be easily produced utilizing the nuclear reaction 64Ni(p,n)64Cu. A high Cu-64 production rate was obtained using high-purity enriched nickel metal on the internal tangential target of the CS-30 cyclotron. Radio-copper was isolated after column chromatography using a semi-remote apparatus. Use of reagents with little or no carrier copper yields high specific activity Cu-64 pharmaceuticals prepared from the isolated [64Cu]CuCl2. [64Cu]Cu-ATSM was prepared in greater than 1.21±0.40 Ci/mmol (45±15 GBq/mmol) at EOB.

Abstract
The risk factors for and clinical features of bloodstream infection with uncommon Candida spp. (species other than C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. parapsilosis, C. tropicals and C. krusei) are incompletely defined. To identify clinical variables associated with these species that might guide management, 57 cases of candidaemia resulting from uncommon Candida spp. were analysed in comparison with 517 episodes of Candida albicans candidaemia (2001-2004). Infection with uncommon Candida spp. (5.3% of candidaemia cases), as compared with C. albicans candidaemia, was significantly more likely to be outpatient-acquired than inpatient-acquired (15 of 57 vs. 65 of 517 episodes, p 0.01). Prior exposure to fluconazole was uncommon (n=1). Candida dubliniensis was the commonest species (n=22, 39%), followed by Candida guilliermondii (n=11, 19%) and Candida lusitaniae (n=7, 12%).C. dubliniensis candidaemia was independently associated with recent intravenous drug use (p 0.01) and chronic liver disease (p 0.03), and infection with species other than C. dubliniensis was independently associated with age<65 years (p 0.02), male sex (p 0.03) and human immunodeficiency virus infection (p 0.05). Presence of sepsis at diagnosis and crude 30-day mortality rates were similar for C. dubliniensis-related, non-C. dubliniensis-related and C. albicans-related candidaemia. Haematological malignancy was the commonest predisposing factor in C. guilliermondii (n=3, 27%) and C. lusitaniae (n=3, 43%) candidaemia. The 30-day mortality rate of C. lusitaniae candidaemia was higher than the overall death rate for all uncommon Candida spp. (42.9% vs. 25%, p not significant). All isolates were susceptible to amphotericin B, voriconazole, posaconazole, and caspofungin; five strains (9%) had fluconazole MIC values of 16-32 mg/L. Candidaemia due to uncommon Candida spp. is emerging among hospital outpatients; certain clinical variables may assist in recognition of this entity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare muscle imaging findings in different subtypes of myofibrillar myopathies (MFM) in order to identify characteristic patterns of muscle alterations that may be helpful to separate these genetic heterogeneous muscular disorders. METHODS Muscle imaging and clinical findings of 46 patients with MFM were evaluated (19 desminopathy, 12 myotilinopathy, 11 filaminopathy, 1 alphaB-crystallinopathy, and 3 ZASPopathy). The data were collected retrospectively in 43 patients and prospectively in 3 patients. RESULTS In patients with desminopathy, the semitendinosus was at least equally affected as the biceps femoris, and the peroneal muscles were never less involved than the tibialis anterior (sensitivity of these imaging criteria to detect desminopathy in our cohort 100%, specificity 95%). In most of the patients with myotilinopathy, the adductor magnus showed more alterations than the gracilis muscle, and the sartorius was at least equally affected as the semitendinosus (sensitivity 90%, specificity 93%). In filaminopathy, the biceps femoris and semitendinosus were at least equally affected as the sartorius muscle, and the medial gastrocnemius was more affected than the lateral gastrocnemius. The semimembranosus mostly showed more alterations than the adductor magnus (sensitivity 88%, specificity 96%). Early adult onset and cardiac involvement was most often associated with desminopathy. In patients with filaminopathy, muscle weakness typically beginning in the 5th decade of life was mostly pronounced proximally, while late adult onset (>50 years) with distal weakness was more often present in myotilinopathy. CONCLUSIONS Muscle imaging in combination with clinical data may be helpful for separation of distinct myofibrillar myopathy subtypes and in scheduling of genetic analysis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent gene profiling data suggest that, besides the anagen hair bulb, the epithelial stem cell region in the outer root sheath of hair follicles (HFs), termed the bulge, may also represent an area of relative immune privilege (IP). OBJECTIVES To investigate whether the human HF bulge is a site of relative IP within anagen VI HFs. METHODS Anagen VI HFs from normal human scalp skin were analysed using immunohistological staining techniques, quantitative histomorphometry and statistical analysis. For functional evidence we performed full-thickness human scalp skin organ cultures to investigate whether interferon (IFN)-gamma, a key inducer of IP collapse in hair bulbs, has a similar effect on the putative bulge IP. RESULTS Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class Ia, beta(2)-microglobulin and MHC class II immunoreactivity are downregulated in the human bulge. The immunosuppressants alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone, transforming growth factor-beta2, macrophage migration inhibitory factor and indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) are upregulated in the CD200+, stem cell-rich bulge region. These CD200+ cells also co-express HLA-E. Furthermore, IFN-gamma induces significant ectopic MHC class Ia expression in bulge cells of organ-cultured human scalp skin. CONCLUSIONS These data suggest that the bulge of human anagen HFs represents a hitherto unrecognized site of relative IP in human skin. Simultaneously, we present the first evidence of IDO and HLA-E protein expression in normal human HFs. Bulge IP presumably protects the HF epithelial stem cell reservoir from autoaggressive immune attack whereas a loss of bulge IP may play a central role in the pathogenesis of cicatricial alopecias.

Abstract
Cobalt oxide (CoO) films epitaxially grown on Ir(100) in (111) orientation were investigated by means of quantitative low-energy electron diffraction and scanning tunneling microscopy. We find with high crystallographic precision that in the bulk of the films the rocksalt structure prevails while near the surface there is a switch towards the wurtzite structure. As a consequence, nanosized CoO cannot be considered as a single structural phase. The film surfaces prove to be metallic, apparently connected with polarity compensation.

Abstract
Cobalt oxide films were prepared by oxidation of different amounts of cobalt deposited on Ir(100)-(1 × 1), where oxygen rich conditions were applied during deposition. The resulting oxide films with thicknesses of up to about 40 Å were investigated as regards their crystallographic structure and morphology, applying quantitative low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM). It can be unequivocally shown that the spinel-type Co(3)O(4) phase develops, for which an excellent fit between measured and calculated LEED intensity spectra is achieved (Pendry R-factor R = 0.124). In spite of the quadratic unit cell of the substrate the oxide films are in the polar (111) orientation. Also, the native lattice parameter of the material is assumed, i.e. there is no pseudomorphic relation to the substrate. However, by means of orientational epitaxy, one of the unit-mesh vectors of the oxide and one of those of the substrate layer are aligned, leading to two mutually orthogonal domains in the oxide. The oxide is terminated by a sublayer of cobalt ions which in the bulk were tetrahedrally coordinated Co(2+) ions. There are drastic relaxations of layer spacings at and near the surface. As a consequence, the bond length between the surface terminating cobalt ions and oxygen ions below is considerably reduced, indicative of a substantial change of the ionicity of the cobalt and/or oxygen ions. This is interpreted as accounting for polarity compensation of the film, as surface reconstruction, oxygen vacancies and species adsorbed can be ruled out.
