Abstract
BACKGROUND Salmonella can cause serious human gastroenteritis and is frequently isolated from various food samples. The cell culturing, immunoassay, and polymerase chain reactions (PCR) are the current methods to detect such pathogenic agents. However, these methods are time-consuming and labor-intensive, and thus unavailable for rapid-monitoring of Salmonella. AIMS This study aimed to develop an immunocapture-loop-mediated isothermal amplification (IC-LAMP) for rapid and sensitive detection of Salmonella. METHODS Salmonella was used as antigen to produce monoclonal antibody (mAb) and mAbs were prepared via subcloning three times. The mAb 1B12 with high affinity was coated on the surface of the immuno-magnetic beads (IMBs) to capture Salmonella. The enriched products (IMBs-Salmonella) were used for LAMP using the special primers targeted the conserved invA gene of Salmonella. RESULTS The IC-LAMP was developed based on mAb 1B12 and LAMP. Targeting the conserved invA gene of Salmonella, the detection time was shortened to 50 min from three days. If the reaction contains Salmonella, the green fluorescence and the trapezoidal strip can be clearly observed. Importantly, the method combines the specificity of antibody and LAMP with a detection limit of 5 CFU/ml in artificially contaminated water and milk. The specificity of this method was demonstrated by testing other similar bacteria. The results indicate that the IC-LAMP reacts only with Salmonella and does not cross-react with other similar bacteria. CONCLUSION The IC-LAMP assay developed here is a rapid, sensitive, one-step-visual method to screen for the presence of Salmonella in food samples. This method is faster than traditional PCR, LAMP, and other methods, and can be used as a primary screening method for the detection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify the prevalence, lifestyle factors, chronic disease status, and assessing the metabolic profile, comparing key differences in a cohort of subjects with non-sarcopenia/non-obesity (H), sarcopenia/non-obesity (S), non-sarcopenia/obesity (O) and sarcopenia obesity (SO) in a multi-ethnic population in west China. DESIGN A cross-sectional study. SETTING The communities in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Xinjiang provinces. PARTICIPANTS We included 4,500 participants aged 50 years or older who did bioelectrical impedance in our analysis from West China Health and Aging Trend (WCHAT) study. MEASUREMENTS We measured gait speed, handgrip strength and muscle mass by using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) for all participants. We defined sarcopenia using the diagnostic algorithm recommended by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS). Obesity was defined as the highest sex-specific quintile of the percentage body fat. Different variables like anthropometry measures, life styles, chronic disease and blood test were collected. Analysis of variance and a multinomial logistic regression analysis adjusting for covariates were used to assess the differences of metabolic profiles among different groups. RESULTS Of 4500 participants aged 50 years old or older, the proportions of H, O, S, SO were 63.0%, 17.7%, 16.7% and 2.6%, respectively. And the prevalence of S subjects in men was 18.3% and 15.7% in women, while the prevalence of SO was 3.7% in men and 2.0% in women. Data showed that the prevalence of S and SO has an aging increase pattern which was opposite with O. Both S and SO tends to be older, lower educational level, without spouse, smoking, comorbidity of chronic disease, poor nutrition status, depression and cognitive decline compared to H and S seems to be worse than SO. Compared to H, S cohort showed a decrease in Vitamin D, triglyceride, albumin, fasting glucose, insulin, creatinine, ALT, nutrition scores and increase in HDL. SO cohort were observed for an increase in cholesterol, LDL, total protein and decrease in vitamin D. While O cohort showed an increase in triglyceride, cholesterol, LDL, total protein, glucose, insulin, WBC, uric acid, ALT and nutrition scores, but a decrease in HDL and vitamin D level. CONCLUSIONS Among individuals aged 50 years old or older in West China. S, O and SO participants demonstrate distinct differences in the life-styles, chronic disease profile, and metabolic profiles. The prevalence of S and SO has an aging increase pattern contrary to O. Both S and SO tend to be older, lower educational level, without spouse, smoking, comorbidity of chronic disease, poor nutrition status, depression and cognitive decline compared to H and S looks like to be worse than SO. Besides, the S subjects seem to have more metabolic index changes than SO compared to H. While O subjects have some contrary metabolic index to S subjects.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Previous literature has reported that physical frailty (PF) closely associated with cognitive impairment (CI). In this study, we aim to describe and evaluate the prevalence and associated factors with different patterns of PF and cognitive impairment. DESIGN A cross-sectional study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Community-dwelling older adults aged ≥60 from the West China Health and Aging Trend (WCHAT) study were included in this study. MEASUREMENTS Participants were assessed the PF and cognitive impairment. PF was assessed using the physical phenotype as defined by Fried's criteria. Cognitive impairment was identified using the Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire (SPMSQ). According different patterns of PF and cognitive impairment, participants were divided into 4 groups: not-PF and cognitive intact ( "neither" group), not-PF and cognitive impairment ("CI only" group), PF and cognitive intact ("PF only" group), and PF and cognitive impairment ("both" group). Multinomial logistic regression was used to explore the association between medical conditions and different patterns of PF and cognitive impairment after adjusting the demographic characteristics. RESULTS Among 4,103 participants (age 67.8 + 5.9 years, female 58.3%), 78.8%, 3.9%, 14.5% and 2.9% were "neither", "PF only", "CI only", and "both", respectively. The prevalence of "PF only", "CI only" and "both" were associated with age, lower education level and single status. In addition, there was substantial ethnicity heterogeneity in the prevalence of different patterns of PF and cognitive impairment. Comparing with "neither", PF and/or cognitive impairment had higher association with depression, ADLs impairment, and malnutrition. Of note, obesity was only significantly associated with "PF only", but not associated with "CI only" or "both". CONCLUSIONS We found the substantial demographic and medical conditions disparities in different patterns of PF and cognitive impairment. Further research should focus on the efficient and practical screen to predict the risk of "PF only", "CI only" and "both".

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although conflicting findings abound, gender-related differences in olfactory identification have received continuous attention. To our best knowledge, no systematic and quantitative research has examined gender differences in olfaction identification at various stages of life. The present study aimed to find out if there is gender difference in human olfaction identification in different life stages. METHODOLOGY Studies cited in the PubMed database were searched from its inception to August 2017 using the terms "olfact" or "smell" and "gender" or "sex". The effect size of each comparison was calculated. 24 studies were included in this meta-analysis. RESULTS In this meta-analysis, we used Cohen's d to determine the effects sizes for the comparisons between women versus men among different groups. Its value was 0.18 (95% CI: -0.13 to 0.49) in Group A (age less than 18 years), 0.62 (95% CI: 0.43 to 0.81) in Group B (age 18-50 years), and 0.33 (95% CI: -0.01 to 0.66) in Group C. The effect was considered relatively small in Group A (age less than 18 years) and Group C (age more than 50 years), and a medium effect in Group B (age 18-50 years). Moreover, a significant difference was only present in Group B (age 18-50 years). Summarizing, the gender effect was only present in the group aged 18-50 years, in which women outperformed men significantly in odor identification. CONCLUSIONS This meta-analytic review indicated that the gender differences only exist in young adults (age 18-50 years), while absent in juveniles (age less than 18 years) or an aged cohort (age more than 50 years). Females outperformed males in the young adults.

Abstract
In order to understand infection of avian influenza A virus (AIV) and canine distemper virus (CDV) in the Siberian Tiger in Northeast China, 75 Siberian Tiger serum samples from three cap- tive facilities in northeastern China were collected. AIV and CDV antibody surveillance was test- ed by using hemagglutination inhibition and serum neutralization methods. The results showed that the seroprevalence of H5 AIV, H9 AIV and CDV was respectively 9.33% (7/75), 61.33% (46/75) and 16% (12/75). In the 1⟨years ⟨2 and > 5 year-old group, the seroprevalence of the H9 AIV was 24% and 80% (P ⟨ 0.01), and the CDV seroprevalence was 6% and 36% (P ⟨ 0.01), respectively. It was demonstrated that 3 (4%) out of 75 serum samples were AIV+CDV seropos- itive, with 2.67% (2/75) in H9+AIV and 1.33% (1/75) in H5+H9+AIV. To our knowledge, this is the first report of AIV and CDV seroprevalence in Siberian Tigers in China, which will provide base-line data for the control of AIV and CDV infection in Siberian Tigers in China.

Abstract
Neck masses in children are a common clinical concern but there is a paucity of published information about them. We organised this retrospective study to analyse their prevalence and treatment in Northwest China. The records of 207 children who presented with neck masses between 2008 and 2017 were retrieved from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Lanzhou University Second Hospital, and age, sex, clinical presentation, preoperative investigation, surgical procedure, histopathological diagnosis, and complications were recorded. Their mean (range) age was 10 years (6 months to 21 years), and the male:female ratio was 1.23:1. In total 128 patients (62%) had congenital lesions, 35 (17%) had inflammatory lesions, and 44 (21%) had neoplastic lesions. The most common mass was a thyroglossal cyst (31%), followed by plunging ranula (17%) and lymphangioma (16%). Temporary injury to the facial nerve and wound infection were the major complications of surgical treatment. The types of neck masses in Northwest China differ from those previously reported, which may be attributed to genetic alterations in people of this race. The present report adds to the knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of neck masses in children in Northwest China, and brings out the demographic differences between races.

However, few mitochondrial genetic studies of TB patients have been carried out.
<title>OBJECTIVE</title> To investigate the role of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in tuberculous infection.
<title>DESIGN</title> We recruited 243 TB patients and 261 normal controls (NCs) to compare their mtDNA haplogroups and copy numbers.
<title>RESULTS</title> The frequency of mtDNA haplogroup C4 was significantly higher in TB patients (7%) than in NCs (2.8%, P = 0.042). However, this difference disappeared when TB patients were separated into male and female groups and compared with sex-matched NCs. When TB patients were divided into five subgroups for further analyses, the mtDNA haplogroup C4 showed different frequencies among the five subgroups. The frequency of the haplogroup C4 was much lower in the pulmonary TB (pTB) and pleural TB (plTB) group (1.4%) than in the non-pTB and plTB group (9.3%, P = 0.027). mtDNA copy numbers were significantly higher in TB patients than in NCs (99.09 ± 54.54 vs. 73.90 ± 43.92; P < 0.0001); results in male/female/total TB patients and matched NCs were similar.
<title>CONCLUSION</title> mtDNA haplogroups and copy numbers were found to have an important role in active TB disease.
.

Abstract
Gallium Phosphide (GaP) has a band gap of 2.26 eV and a valance band edge that is more negative than the water oxidation level. Hence, it may be a promising material for photoelectrochemical water splitting. However, one thing GaP has in common with other III-V semiconductors is that it corrodes in photoelectrochemical reactions. Cobalt oxide (CoOx) is a chemically stable and highly active oxygen evolution reaction co-catalyst. In this study, we protected a GaP photoanode by using a 20 nm TiO2 as a protection layer and a 2 nm cobalt oxide co-catalyst layer, which were both deposited via atomic layer deposition (ALD). A GaP photoanode that was modified by CoOx exhibited much higher photocurrent, potential, and photon-to-current efficiency than a bare GaP photoanode under AM1.5G illumination. A photoanode that was coated with both TiO2 and CoOx layers was stable for over 24 h during constant reaction in 1 M NaOH (pH 13.7) solution under one sun illumination.

Abstract
Based on a sample of (1310.6±7.0)×10^{6}J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present measurements of J/ψ and η^{'} absolute branching fractions using the process J/ψ→γη^{'}. By analyzing events where the radiative photon converts into an e^{+}e^{-} pair, the branching fraction for J/ψ→γη^{'} is measured to be (5.27±0.03±0.05)×10^{-3}. The absolute branching fractions of the five dominant decay channels of the η^{'} are then measured for the first time and are determined to be B(η^{'}→γπ^{+}π^{-})=(29.90±0.03±0.55)%, B(η^{'}→ηπ^{+}π^{-})=(41.24±0.08±1.24)%, B(η^{'}→ηπ^{0}π^{0})=(21.36±0.10±0.92)%, B(η^{'}→γω)=(2.489±0.018±0.074)%, and B(η^{'}→γγ)=(2.331±0.012±0.035)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Abstract
Using e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.19 fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of 4.178 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fractions B_{D_{s}^{+}→ηe^{+}ν_{e}}=(2.323±0.063_{stat}±0.063_{syst})% and B_{D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}e^{+}ν_{e}}=(0.824±0.073_{stat}±0.027_{syst})% via a tagged analysis technique, where one D_{s} is fully reconstructed in a hadronic mode. Combining these measurements with previous BESIII measurements of B_{D^{+}→η^{(')}e^{+}ν_{e}}, the η-η^{'} mixing angle in the quark flavor basis is determined to be ϕ_{P}=(40.1±2.1_{stat}±0.7_{syst})°. From the first measurements of the dynamics of D_{s}^{+}→η^{(')}e^{+}ν_{e} decays, the products of the hadronic form factors f_{+}^{η^{(')}}(0) and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_{cs}| are determined with different form factor parametrizations. For the two-parameter series expansion, the results are f_{+}^{η}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.4455±0.0053_{stat}±0.0044_{syst} and f_{+}^{η^{'}}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.477±0.049_{stat}±0.011_{syst}.

Abstract
The cross section of the process e^{+}e^{-}→π^{+}D^{0}D^{*-} for center-of-mass energies from 4.05 to 4.60 GeV is measured precisely using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Two enhancements are clearly visible in the cross section around 4.23 and 4.40 GeV. Using several models to describe the dressed cross section yields stable parameters for the first enhancement, which has a mass of 4228.6±4.1±6.3 MeV/c^{2} and a width of 77.0±6.8±6.3 MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. Our resonant mass is consistent with previous observations of the Y(4220) state and the theoretical prediction of a DD[over ¯]_{1}(2420) molecule. This result is the first observation of Y(4220) associated with an open-charm final state. Fits with three resonance functions with additional Y(4260), Y(4320), Y(4360), ψ(4415), or a new resonance do not show significant contributions from either of these resonances. The second enhancement is not from a single known resonance. It could contain contributions from ψ(4415) and other resonances, and a detailed amplitude analysis is required to better understand this enhancement.

Abstract
To investigate the mtDNA variation and origin of maternal lineages in South American donkeys and to reassess the domestication of donkeys in northeast Africa, we analyzed sequences (489 bp of the D-loop) from 323 domestic donkeys sampled from Peru, Brazil, Ethiopia and Egypt. Altogether, the 323 sequences displayed 53 different haplotypes (45 in Ethiopia, 14 in Egypt, eight in Peru and six in Brazil). Among the four populations, Egyptian donkeys possessed the highest haplotype diversity (0.910 ± 0.032), followed by Brazilian donkeys (0.879 ± 0.060). The Clade I haplotypes dominated in Peruvian donkeys (65%), whereas Clade II haplotypes dominated in Brazilian donkeys (67%). Estimates of FST values showed a high genetic differentiation between Peruvian and Brazilian donkey populations (FST = 0.4066), which could be explained by the complex introduction history of South American donkeys. Phylogeographic analysis indicates that northeast Africa could be the most probable domestication center for Clade I donkeys. Analysis of molecular variance confirmed a weak genetic structure in domestic donkey populations among four continents (Europe, Asia, Africa and South America).

Abstract
Using a 3.19 fb^{-1} data sample collected at an e^{+}e^{-} center-of-mass energy of E_{cm}=4.178 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fraction of the leptonic decay D_{s}^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ} to be B_{D_{s}^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ}}=(5.49±0.16_{stat}±0.15_{syst})×10^{-3}. Combining our branching fraction with the masses of the D_{s}^{+} and μ^{+} and the lifetime of the D_{s}^{+}, we determine f_{D_{s}^{+}}|V_{cs}|=246.2±3.6_{stat}±3.5_{syst} MeV. Using the c→s quark mixing matrix element |V_{cs}| determined from a global standard model fit, we evaluate the D_{s}^{+} decay constant f_{D_{s}^{+}}=252.9±3.7_{stat}±3.6_{syst} MeV. Alternatively, using the value of f_{D_{s}^{+}} calculated by lattice quantum chromodynamics, we find |V_{cs}|=0.985±0.014_{stat}±0.014_{syst}. These values of B_{D_{s}^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ}}, f_{D_{s}^{+}}|V_{cs}|, f_{D_{s}^{+}} and |V_{cs}| are each the most precise results to date.

Abstract
We report on new measurements of Cabibbo-suppressed semileptonic D_{s}^{+} decays using 3.19 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data sample collected at a center-of-mass energy of 4.178 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Our results include branching fractions B(D_{s}^{+}→K^{0}e^{+}ν_{e})=[3.25±0.38(stat)±0.16(syst)]×10^{-3} and B(D_{s}^{+}→K^{*0}e^{+}ν_{e})=[2.37±0.26(stat)±0.20(syst)]×10^{-3}, which are much improved relative to previous measurements, and the first measurements of the hadronic form-factor parameters for these decays. For D_{s}^{+}→K^{0}e^{+}ν_{e}, we obtain f_{+}(0)=0.720±0.084(stat)±0.013(syst), and for D_{s}^{+}→K^{*0}e^{+}ν_{e}, we find form-factor ratios r_{V}=V(0)/A_{1}(0)=1.67±0.34(stat)±0.16(syst) and r_{2}=A_{2}(0)/A_{1}(0)=0.77±0.28(stat)±0.07(syst).

Abstract
Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb^{-1} recorded by the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, we present an analysis of the decays D^{0}→π^{-}π^{0}e^{+}ν_{e} and D^{+}→π^{-}π^{+}e^{+}ν_{e}. By performing a partial wave analysis, the π^{+}π^{-} S-wave contribution to D^{+}→π^{-}π^{+}e^{+}ν_{e} is observed to be (25.7±1.6±1.1)% with a statistical significance greater than 10σ, besides the dominant P-wave contribution. This is the first observation of the S-wave contribution. We measure the branching fractions B(D^{0}→ρ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e})=(1.445±0.058±0.039)×10^{-3}, B(D^{+}→ρ^{0}e^{+}ν_{e})=(1.860±0.070±0.061)×10^{-3}, and B(D^{+}→f_{0}(500)e^{+}ν_{e},f_{0}(500)→π^{+}π^{-})=(6.30±0.43±0.32)×10^{-4}. An upper limit of B(D^{+}→f_{0}(980)e^{+}ν_{e},f_{0}(980)→π^{+}π^{-})<2.8×10^{-5} is set at the 90% confidence level. We also obtain the hadronic form factor ratios of D→ρe^{+}ν_{e} at q^{2}=0 assuming the single-pole dominance parametrization: r_{V}={[V(0)]/[A_{1}(0)]}=1.695±0.083±0.051, r_{2}={[A_{2}(0)]/[A_{1}(0)]}=0.845±0.056±0.039.
