Lactate formation by the avian lung tissue

The activities of formation of lactate and pyruvate were studied along with the development of chickens, Gallus domestica. In the lung the activity of lactate formation was highest in the embryo at 13th to 16th days of incubation, then the activity decreased as the development went on and continued to decrease even after the hatching. The change of the activity of pyruvate formation was almost parallel with that of lactate formation. On the other hand, in the liver the activities of formation of lactate and pyruvate remained constant and did not show such changes as observed for the lung.

Two community outbreaks of human infection with Yersinia enterocolitica

Two outbreaks of human infection with Yersinia enterocolitica in Shizuoka, Japan are described. This is the first report of community outbreaks of infection with this organism in Japan, and possibly in the world. All the strains isolated in each outbreak belonged to O antigen group 3, biotype 4, of the species. Despite much effort, the source and mode of spread of the infection were not established.

Color reproduction by multicolor holograms with white-light reconstruction

Multicolor holograms for white-light reconstruction are recorded using four primary wavelengths of a krypton ion laser and a helium-neon laser. On the basis of colorimetry performed with the aid of a color computer, the colors observed with the eye through the holograms, as well as those of original transparencies (color patches), are represented as the points on a chromaticity diagram.
