Abstract
Footpad assay of delayed-type hypersensitivity to bovine serum albumin (BSA) was studied. Injection of saline solution of BSA (S-BSA) into footpads of sensitized mice resulted in the development of only the local Arthus-type reaction. Injection of alumprecipitated BSA (AP-BSA), however, was effective in generating both Arthus- and delayed-type reactions. The difference between S-BSA and AP-BSA in the ability of elicitation of delayed-type reaction may be attributable to the difference in the retention of these two forms of antigen in the footpad, since S-BSA was found to be eliminated much more rapidly from footpads than AP-BSA.

Abstract
Because the globus pallidus gives rise to the principal efferent system of the corpus striatum and is traversed by several fibers systems, attempts were made to study the projections of its cells by autoradiographic technics. Tritiated amino acids (L-leucine, L-proline and L-lysine) were injected into: (1) the medial pallidal segment (MPS), (2) the MPS and the substantia innominata (SI), (3) portions of the MPS and the lateral pallidal segment (LPS) and (4) parts of the putamen. Cells labeled by injections of the MPS transported isotope to thalamic nuclei (ventral anterior, VApc, ventral lateral, VLo and VLm, and the centromedian, CM), the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), and the lateral habenular nucleus (Hbl). Labeled cells of the MPS and SI transported isotope to: (1) thalamic nuclei (VLo, VLm and CM), (2) PPN, (3) Hbl, (4) lateral and posterior regions of the hypothalamus, and (5) extensive dorsal regions of the substantia migra (SN). Comparisons of label transported from uptake of isotope by cells of the MPS, and cells of both pallidal segments, suggest that the LPS projects fibers only to the subthalamic nucleus (STN). Not all regions of the STN appear to receive fibers from the LPS. Selectively labeled neurons of the putamen transport isotope to broad regions of both pallidal segments and to the pars reticulata of the SN. This study suggests that cells of the MPS project profusely and topographically to: (1) the rostral ventral tier thalamic nuclei (VApc, VLo and VLm), (2) lateral portions of CM, and (3) the PPN. Fibers of the lenticular fasciculus appear to terminate preferentially in VLo. Cells in sublenticular portions of SI, and those extending into the medullary laminae of the pallidum, appear to project to: (1) HB1 via the stria medullaris, (2) the pars compacta of SN, (3) lateral and posterior regions of the hypothalamus, and (4) the so-called nucleus of the ansa lenticularis. Some fibers from cells of SI appear to join the dorsal stria terminalis, but none enter the inferior thalamic peduncle and none project to any part of the dorsomedial nucleus of the thalamus.

Abstract
In spite of repeated demonstrations by degeneration technics, nigrothalamic fibers have been regarded with some skepticism. Attempts were made to trace nigral efferent projections in the monkey by autoradiographic technics. Tritiated amino acids (L-leucine, L-lysine and L-proline), injected into portions of the substantia nigra (SN), labeled cells in four regions, designated as, (1) rostrolateral, (2) caudolateral, (3) rostromedial and (4) central. Rostrolateral nigral neurons transported radioactive label preferentially and abundantly to thalamic nuclei; localized isotope was found in parts of three thalamic nuclei, the medial part of the ventral lateral nucleus (VLm), the magnocellular part of the ventral anterior nucleus (VAmc), and the paralaminar part of the dorsomedial nucleus (DMpl)9 Lateral neurons in the caudal half of the SN transmitted radioactive label to the same thalamic nuclei as rostrolateral nigral neuron. Isotope transported to portions of the striatum was modest and localized. Radioactive label taken up by large cells in the caudal third of the SN was transported to portions of the striatum, but not to thalamic nuclei. Labeled nigral neurons in the medial two-thirds of the rostral half of the SN, and in the middle third of the central part of the SN, transported the label mainly to parts of the caudate nucleus and putamen. In these animals modest radioactive label was seen in VLm and VAmc, but not in other thalamic nuclei. There was no evidence that nigral neurons project to the subthalamic nucleus. No radioactive transport from nigral neurons was detected in the superior colliculus, the midbrain tegmentum, or the red nucleus, and none was transported to more caudal brain stem nuclei. Nigrothalamic fibers arise particularly from cells in rostral and lateral parts of the substantia nigra. While some cells in other parts of the nigra project to thalamic nuclei, these appear scattered and less numerous. Large cells in caudal parts of the SN do not project to thalamic nuclei. These observations confirm nigrothalamic projections to VLm and VAmc, and identify a new nigral projection to part of the dorsomedial nucleus of the thalamus (DMpl). No nigral efferent fibers project to any of the intralaminar thalamic nuclei.

Abstract
The relationship between metastatic lesions and the degree of appearance of plasma cells in regional lymph nodes affected by carcinoma of the stomach was observed in this study. At the initial stage of metastasis to a lymph node, numerous plasma cells were found in tje lymphatic parenchyma adjacent to the metastatic lesion. As the metastatic lesions increased, the number of plasma cells decreased. Few plasma cells appeared in the intact lymph node distant from the primary lesion of carcinoma. It is suspected that this phenomenon may be tentatively explicable from the antigen-antibody reaction at the initial stage of metastasis in a lymph node.

Abstract
A new assay method for hydrogenase [EC 1.12.2.1] based on the enzymic electrode reaction of H2-H+ equilibrium has been established. The method is based on the experimental fact that the short-circuit current of the electric cell composed of an electrode with hydrogenase and methylviologen as the mediator of H2-H+ equilibrium and a saturated calomel electrode as the counter electrode, is practically proportional to the amount of hydrogenase in the cell. The new method is referred to as the "enzymic electric cell method." This technique has applications not only to routine activity assay but also to the direct determination of the time course of enzyme denaturation, which has not previously been possible.

Abstract
The present study was carried out to examine the possible intervention of some hormones in the "protein-sparing/actions of dietary carbohydrate and fat. Administration of either a carbohydrate meal or a fat meal to fasted rats caused a reduction in the urinary output of urea and total nitrogen with a concomitant decrease in rate of urogenesis in liver. as well as the activities of some amino acid-catabolizing enzymes in liver. The sparing action of carbohydrate but not that of fat was abolished in alloxan-diabetic rats. Feeding rats a carbohydrate meal caused a marked reduction in the amount of cyclic AMP in liver. The change was coincident with a reduction in the level of plasma urea and the urinary output of urea and total nitorgen. Administration of dibutyryl cyclic AMP abolished the carbohydrate-induced depression of urinary output of urea and total nitrogen as well as partially the activity of serine dehydratase in liver. Feeding a carbohydrate meal resulted in a significant reduction in the level of corticosterone in plasma. However, the possible intervention of glucocorticoids in the protein-sparing action of carbohydrate was ruled out inasmuch as the action of carbohydrate was also observed in the adrenalectomized rats. The overall results suggest that the protein-sparing action of dietary carbohydrate may be exerted in a different fashion from that of fat, that is, through depression of cyclic AMP in liver and thus the reduction of the degradation of amino acids in liver

Abstract
A case of carcinoma of the cystic duct is presented and comprehensive review of the literature was provided. Since no characteristic clinical signs are present, the diagnosis can only be made incidentally at the time of laparotomy for non-visualizing gallbladder. Even then histological study of the resected specimen is mandatory. In our present case after the confirmation of the diagnosis the second look exploration was done. However, careful examination of the bile duct system failed to find evidence of carcinomatous involvement suggesting that carcinoma found in the cystic duct was of a primary and not a secondary invasion. The present case constitutes the nineteenth case which meets completely the criteria proposed by Farrar. Since the only hope or cure lies with the early diagnosis of the disease, early exploratory laparotomy and prophylactic removal of nonfunctioning or calculous gallbladder are recommended.

Abstract
The histological features of gastric carcinoma in patients survived more than 5 years after the resection were reviewed. In general prognosis and length of survival were related clearly to the degree of malignancy of cancer. Duration of the remission was also reciprocaly related. Certain type of carcinoma simplex or undifferentiated carcinoma was associated with unexpectedly more favorable prognosis. Paradoxical relation was also demonstrated between degree of atypism in adenocarcinoma papillare with introversive pseudopapillary pattern and its prognosis.
