Abstract
Objective: To investigate the spectrum of pathogens causing lung fungal disease diagnosed by histopathology through histochemical special staining, compared to the fungal culture results, and to further evaluate the diagnostic value of histochemical special staining in pulmonary fungal disease. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 187 cases of pulmonary fungal disease diagnosed by histopathology in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 2001 to 2015 (including 92 cases with pulmonary resection or open lung biopsy, 33 with percutaneous lung biopsy and 62 ones with fiberoptic bronchoscopic lung biopsy). All cases were treated with hexamine silver, PAS, mucus carmine and acid-fast staining in addition to conventional HE staining. The clinical records and the fungal culture results were reviewed. Results: There were 103 male and 84 female patients, aged from 12 to 70 years [average (48±14) years]. There were 85 cases(45.5%) of pulmonary aspergillosis(including 60 cases of invasive infection and 25 cases of aspergilloma), 51 cases(27.3%) of pulmonary cryptococosis, 6 cases (3.2%)of pulmonary mucormycosis, 3 cases(1.6%) of pulmonary histoplasmosis, 3 cases (1.6%)of pulmonary candidiasis, and 2 cases (1.1%) of pneumocystosis, while in the remaining 37 cases (19.8%) the pathogens could not be clearly classified by microscopy due to limited tissue or degeneration. Among the 88 patients with pulmonary fungal disease diagnosed by histopathology from 2011 to 2015, 35 ones (39.9%) were detected by fungal culture (including lung biopsy, intraoperative swab, blood, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and sputum, etc.). The diagnostic results of 18 cases were completely consistent between histopathological examination and fungal culture (18/35, 51.4%), while 13 cases (13/35, 37.1%) were diagnosed by histopathology but no fungi were cultured, and in 3 cases (3/35,8.6%) the culture was positive for fungi which could not be classified clearly by histopathology. In another case the pathogen was found to be Cryptococcus histopathologically but the lavage culture grew"candida", but the patient's blood cryptococcal antigen was positive. Conclusions: Among patients with histopathological diagnosis of pulmonary fungal disease, pulmonary aspergillosis was the most common, followed by pulmonary cryptococcosis, pulmonary mucormycosis, pulmonary histoplasmosis, pulmonary candidiasis and pneumocystosis. A small number of cases could not be classified by histopathology through histochemical special staining. There was a high consistency in discovering fungal pathogens between pathological histochemical special staining and culture method, but 37% pulmonary fungal disease diagnosed by histopathology were culture negative. In practice, the role of histochemical special staining in diagnosing pulmonary fungal disease should be paid more attention.

The role of structure and function changes of sensory nervous system in intervertebral disc-related low back pain. Osteoarthritis Cartilage 2021; 29:17-27. Abstract
Low back pain (LBP) is a common musculoskeletal symptom, which can be developed in multiple clinical diseases. It is widely recognized that intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration (IVDD) is one of the leading causes of LBP. However, the pathogenesis of IVD-related LBP is still controversial, and the treatment means are also insufficient to date. In recent decades, the role of structure and function changes of sensory nervous system in the induction and the maintenance of LBP is drawing more and more attention. With the progress of IVDD, IVD cell exhaustion and extracellular matrix degradation result in IVD structural damage, while neovascularization, innervation and inflammatory activation further deteriorate the microenvironment of IVD. New nerve ingrowth into degenerated IVD amplifies the impacts of IVD-derived nociceptive molecules on sensory endings. Moreover, IVDD is usually accompanied with disc herniation, which could injure and inflame affected nerves. Under mechanical and pro-inflammatory stimulation, the pain-transmitting pathway exhibits a sensitized function state and ultimately leads to LBP. Hence, relevant pathogenic factors, such as neurotrophins, ion channels, inflammatory factors, etc., are supposed to serve as promising therapeutic targets for LBP. The purpose of this review is to comprehensively summarize the current evidence on 1) the pathological changes of sensory nervous system during IVDD and their association with LBP, and 2) potential therapeutic strategies for LBP targeting relevant pathogenic factors.

Abstract
The observation of forward proton scattering in association with lepton pairs (e^{+}e^{-}+p or μ^{+}μ^{-}+p) produced via photon fusion is presented. The scattered proton is detected by the ATLAS Forward Proton spectrometer, while the leptons are reconstructed by the central ATLAS detector. Proton-proton collision data recorded in 2017 at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV are analyzed, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 14.6 fb^{-1}. A total of 57 (123) candidates in the ee+p (μμ+p) final state are selected, allowing the background-only hypothesis to be rejected with a significance exceeding 5 standard deviations in each channel. Proton-tagging techniques are introduced for cross-section measurements in the fiducial detector acceptance, corresponding to σ_{ee+p}=11.0±2.6(stat)±1.2(syst)±0.3(lumi) and σ_{μμ+p}=7.2±1.6(stat)±0.9(syst)±0.2(lumi) fb in the dielectron and dimuon channel, respectively.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the value of dual-energy (DE) computed tomography (CT) in discriminating early glottic squamous cell carcinoma (eGSCC) from chronic inflammation and leucoplakia of the vocal cord, and to compare the diagnostic efficiency of DECT with that of simulated conventional 120 kVp CT. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy patients with glottic lesions confirmed by histopathology (38 cases with eGSCC, 11 cases with chronic inflammation, 21 cases with leucoplakia) were enrolled in this prospective study. The DECT-derived parameters were measured and compared using independent sample t-test. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was performed to evaluate the diagnostic performance, and comparison of the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was made using the Z test to further select the best diagnostic parameters. RESULTS Significantly higher iodine concentration (IC), normalised IC (NIC), effective atomic number (Zeff), 40-100 keV (20 keV-interval), slope(k), and Mix-0.3 values were found in eGSCC than those in chronic inflammation, leucoplakia, and inflammation + leucoplakia (all p<0.05). Compared with attenuation measurement of simulated conventional 120 kVp CT, the NIC, 60 keV values derived from DECT showed significantly higher AUC in discriminating these glottic lesions (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS DECT is more accurate for differentiating eGSCC from chronic inflammation and leucoplakia when compared with simulated conventional 120 kVp CT.

Abstract
This Letter presents a search for the production of new heavy resonances decaying into a Higgs boson and a photon using proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb^{-1}. The analysis is performed by reconstructing hadronically decaying Higgs boson (H→bb[over ¯]) candidates as single large-radius jets. A novel algorithm using information about the jet constituents in the center-of-mass frame of the jet is implemented to identify the two b quarks in the single jet. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected background. Upper limits are set on the production cross-section times branching fraction for narrow spin-1 resonances decaying into a Higgs boson and a photon in the resonance mass range from 0.7 to 4 TeV, cross-section times branching fractions are excluded between 11.6 fb and 0.11 fb at a 95% confidence level.

Teriparatide alleviates osteoporosis by promoting osteogenic differentiation of hMSCs via miR-375/RUNX2 axis. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2020; 23:11043-11050. [PMID: 31858576 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_201912_19812] [Citation(s) in RCA: 6] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/12/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate whether Teriparatide (TP) contributed to the osteogenic differentiation of human marrow mesenchymal cells (hMSCs) through the regulation of miR-375, thereby alleviating osteoporosis (OP). PATIENTS AND METHODS The expression levels of miR-375 in the serum and hMSCs of patients with OP were determined by quantitative real time-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). hMSCs were extracted from bone marrows of OP patients and underwent osteogenic differentiation for 1 day, 3 days, 7 days and 10 days, respectively. The mRNA levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin (OCN) and runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) in TP-treated hMSCs transfected with miR-375 mimics or negative control were detected by qRT-PCR. Western blot was conducted to determine the protein expression of RUNX2 in TP-treated hMSCs transfected with miR-375 mimics or negative control. Besides, the osteogenic capacity and mineralization capacity of hMSCs were evaluated by the detection of ALP activity, ALP staining and Alizarin red staining, respectively. Dual-Luciferase reporter gene assay was performed to verify the binding between RUNX2 and miR-375. Subsequently, RUNX2 expression was detected in hMSCs transfected with miR-375 mimics or inhibitor. Rescue experiments were finally performed to determine whether miR-375 was involved in TP-induced osteogenic differentiation by targeting RUNX2. RESULTS MiR-375 remained at a high level in serum of OP patients, while gradually decreased with the prolongation of osteogenic differentiation in isolated hMSCs. TP induction increased the osteogenic and mineralization capacities of hMSCs, which were inhibited after miR-375 overexpression. Through Dual-Luciferase reporter gene assay, we confirmed the binding relationship between miR-375 and RUNX2. Besides, both mRNA and protein levels of RUNX2 were negatively regulated by miR-375. Finally, we verified that co-overexpression of miR-375 and RUNX2 in TP-induced hMSCs significantly enhanced the mineralization capacity compared to overexpression of miR-375 alone. CONCLUSIONS Teriparatide promoted the osteogenic differentiation of hMSCs through miR-375/RUNX2 axis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Pancreatic cancer (PC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive system with a high degree of malignancy. Currently, there have been many studies on exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) discovery in pancreatic cancer. This systematic review aimed to give an overview about known exosomal miRNAs and discuss their diagnostic performance, as well as prognostic value in PC. MATERIALS AND METHODS PubMed and Web of Science were used for systematic literature research for this review. This literature research was mainly to identify studies that performed plasmatic and serological testing for exosomal miRNAs in pancreatic cancer patients and controls. Two independent reviewers separately extracted data on study characteristics and results. RESULTS In total, nine prior studies were included in this review. Of which, eleven different single exosomal miRNAs and three exosomal miRNA panels were reported. CONCLUSIONS When single exosomal miRNA was used as a diagnostic tool, the specificity is generally high, but the sensitivity is commonly low. When multiple of exosomal miRNAs were used simultaneously, higher sensitivities can be obtained at relatively reasonable specificity levels with certain miRNA combinations. Developing a combination of miRNA markers may be a promising approach for early detection of pancreatic cancer.

Abstract
Abstract Objective To compare the performance of three deep-learning models (VGG19, Inception-V3 and Inception-ResNet-V2) in automatic bone age assessment based on pelvic X-ray radiographs. Methods A total of 962 pelvic X ray radiographs taken from adolescents (481 males, 481 females) aged from 11.0 to 21.0 years in five provinces and cities of China were collected, preprocessed and used as objects of study. Eighty percent of these X ray radiographs were divided into training set and validation set with random sampling method and used for model fitting and hyper-parameters adjustment. Twenty percent were used as test sets, to evaluate the ability of model generalization. The performances of the three models were assessed by comparing the root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE) and Bland-Altman plots between the model estimates and the chronological ages. Results The mean RMSE and MAE between bone age estimates of the VGG19 model and the chronological ages were 1.29 and 1.02 years, respectively. The mean RMSE and MAE between bone age estimates of the Inception-V3 model and the chronological ages were 1.17 and 0.82 years, respectively. The mean RMSE and MAE between bone age estimates of the Inception-ResNet-V2 model and the chronological ages were 1.11 and 0.84 years, respectively. The Bland-Altman plots showed that the mean value of differences between bone age estimates of Inception-ResNet-V2 model and the chronological ages was the lowest. Conclusion In the automatic bone age assessment of adolescent pelvis, the Inception-ResNet-V2 model performs the best while the Inception-V3 model achieves a similar accuracy as VGG19 model.

Abstract
A search for Higgs boson decays into a Z boson and a light resonance in two-lepton plus jet events is performed, using a pp collision dataset with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb^{-1} collected at sqrt[s]=13 TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC. The resonance considered is a light boson with a mass below 4 GeV from a possible extended scalar sector or a charmonium state. Multivariate discriminants are used for the event selection and for evaluating the mass of the light resonance. No excess of events above the expected background is found. Observed (expected) 95% confidence-level upper limits are set on the Higgs boson production cross section times branching fraction to a Z boson and the signal resonance, with values in the range 17-340 pb (16_{-5}^{+6}-320_{-90}^{+130} pb) for the different light spin-0 boson mass and branching fraction hypotheses, and with values of 110 and 100 pb (100_{-30}^{+40} and 100_{-30}^{+40} pb) for the η_{c} and J/ψ hypotheses, respectively.

No pulsed radio emission during a bursting phase of a Galactic magnetar. Nature 2020; 587:63-65. Abstract
Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are millisecond-duration radio transients of unknown physical origin observed at extragalactic distances1-3. It has long been speculated that magnetars are the engine powering repeating bursts from FRB sources4-13, but no convincing evidence has been collected so far14. Recently, the Galactic magnetar SRG 1935+2154 entered an active phase by emitting intense soft γ-ray bursts15. One FRB-like event with two peaks (FRB 200428) and a luminosity slightly lower than the faintest extragalactic FRBs was detected from the source, in association with a soft γ-ray/hard-X-ray flare18-21. Here we report an eight-hour targeted radio observational campaign comprising four sessions and assisted by multi-wavelength (optical and hard-X-ray) data. During the third session, 29 soft-γ-ray repeater (SGR) bursts were detected in γ-ray energies. Throughout the observing period, we detected no single dispersed pulsed emission coincident with the arrivals of SGR bursts, but unfortunately we were not observing when the FRB was detected. The non-detection places a fluence upper limit that is eight orders of magnitude lower than the fluence of FRB 200428. Our results suggest that FRB-SGR burst associations are rare. FRBs may be highly relativistic and geometrically beamed, or FRB-like events associated with SGR bursts may have narrow spectra and characteristic frequencies outside the observed band. It is also possible that the physical conditions required to achieve coherent radiation in SGR bursts are difficult to satisfy, and that only under extreme conditions could an FRB be associated with an SGR burst.

Abstract
CLINICAL RELEVANCE Acid-functional monomers in self-adhesive resin cements may decrease their self-curing polymerization ability. Light irradiation optimizes polymerization performance. SUMMARY Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate Knoop microhardness of self-adhesive resin cements under dual- and self-curing modes in simulated canals for describing the polymerization behavior. Methods and Materials: Slots in lightproof silicone cylinders with one open end were filled with the following eight materials: a traditional resin cement (Duolink), a core build-up resin material (MultiCore Flow), and six self-adhesive resin cements (RelyX Unicem 2, G-Cem Automix, Maxcem, Biscem, Multilink Speed, and PermaCem 2.0). The resins were exposed to light through the open end and then stored in a lightproof box. The Knoop hardness gradient for each resin was measured after 1 hour and 120 hours. Surface readings were obtained at 1-mm intervals from 1 mm to 10 mm away from the open ends. The data were analyzed by two-way analysis of variance and the Student-Newman-Keuls test (α=0.05).Results: All the resin materials had stable Knoop hardness numbers (KHNs) at a certain depth; their KHNs in the self-curing mode did not change (p>0.05). The region above this certain depth was regarded as having undergone the dual-curing mode, and the KHN decreased gradually with depth (p<0.05). Between 1 and 120 hours postexposure, the ratio of the KHN at a 5-mm depth (self-cured) to that at a 1-mm depth (dual-cured) increased in Duolink and MultiCore Flow. However, the ratios of the six adhesive resin cements varied. Conclusion: Without light, most self-adhesive resin cements differed from traditional dual-cured resin materials in terms of Knoop micro-hardness, and they had a lesser capacity for chemical-induced curing.

Anesthetic effect and safety of sevoflurane combined with propofol in removing tracheobronchial foreign bodies in children. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2020; 24:11315-11322. [PMID: 33215451 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_202011_23622] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 06/11/2023]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE To systematically evaluate the anesthetic effect and safety of sevoflurane combined with propofol in removing tracheal foreign bodies in children. MATERIALS AND METHODS PubMed, EMbase, The Cochrane Library, China Biomedicine Database, China National Knowledge Internet, WanFang Data, and VIP databases were searched. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of sevoflurane combined with propofol for anesthesia during tracheal foreign body extraction in children were collected. The retrieval time was from the establishment of the database to April 10, 2019. RevMan 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis after two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data, and evaluated the risk bias included in the study. RESULTS Seven RCTs involving 473 patients were included. Meta-analysis showed that the time of loss of consciousness significantly reduced (MD=-38.27, 95% CI (-41.77, -34.77), p < 0.00001) and the recovery time significantly reduced (MD=-12.29, 95% CI (-2.77, -1.80), p < 0.00001) in the sevoflurane combined with propofol group compared with the control group. In terms of safety, the heart rate was slower [MD=-11.00, 95% CI (-21.64, -0.36), p=0.04 < 0.05] and the incidence of cough and breath holding was lower [MD=0.38, 95% CI (0.19, 0.78), p=0.008] in the sevoflurane combined with propofol group than in the control group. However, no significant difference in respiratory rate and SPO 2 < 90% was found between the two groups (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Sevoflurane combined with propofol is worth popularizing because of its high anesthetic effect and safety in the removal of tracheal foreign bodies in children. However, given the limited quantity and quality of the included studies, the above conclusions need to be verified by high-quality studies.

Abstract
We present a method for making microbubble whispering gallery resonators (WGRs) from tellurite, which is a soft glass, using a CO2 laser. The customized fabrication process permits us to process glasses with low melting points into microbubbles with loaded quality factors as high as 2.3 × 106. The advantage of soft glasses is that they provide a wide range of refractive index, thermo-optical, and optomechanical properties. The temperature and air pressure dependent optical characteristics of both passive and active tellurite microbubbles are investigated. For passive tellurite microbubbles, the measured temperature and air pressure sensitivities are 4.9 GHz/K and 7.1 GHz/bar, respectively. The large thermal tuning rate is due to the large thermal expansion coefficient of 1.9 × 10-5 K-1 of the tellurite microbubble. In the active Yb3+-Er3+ co-doped tellurite microbubbles, C-band single-mode lasing with a threshold of 1.66 mW is observed with a 980 nm pump and a maximum wavelength tuning range of 1.53 nm is obtained. The sensitivity of the laser output frequency to pressure changes is 6.5 GHz/bar. The microbubbles fabricated using this method have a low eccentricity and uniform wall thickness, as determined from electron microscope images and the optical spectra. The compound glass microbubbles described herein have the potential for a wide range of applications, including sensing, nonlinear optics, tunable microcavity lasers, and integrated photonics.

Dijet Resonance Search with Weak Supervision Using sqrt[s]=13 TeV pp Collisions in the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:131801. Abstract
This Letter describes a search for narrowly resonant new physics using a machine-learning anomaly detection procedure that does not rely on signal simulations for developing the analysis selection. Weakly supervised learning is used to train classifiers directly on data to enhance potential signals. The targeted topology is dijet events and the features used for machine learning are the masses of the two jets. The resulting analysis is essentially a three-dimensional search A→BC, for m_{A}∼O(TeV), m_{B},m_{C}∼O(100 GeV) and B, C are reconstructed as large-radius jets, without paying a penalty associated with a large trials factor in the scan of the masses of the two jets. The full run 2 sqrt[s]=13 TeV pp collision dataset of 139 fb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is used for the search. There is no significant evidence of a localized excess in the dijet invariant mass spectrum between 1.8 and 8.2 TeV. Cross-section limits for narrow-width A, B, and C particles vary with m_{A}, m_{B}, and m_{C}. For example, when m_{A}=3 TeV and m_{B}≳200 GeV, a production cross section between 1 and 5 fb is excluded at 95% confidence level, depending on m_{C}. For certain masses, these limits are up to 10 times more sensitive than those obtained by the inclusive dijet search. These results are complementary to the dedicated searches for the case that B and C are standard model bosons.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Niraparib is a poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor approved for use in heavily pretreated patients and as maintenance treatment in patients with newly-diagnosed or recurrent ovarian cancer following a response to platinum-based chemotherapy. We present long-term safety data for niraparib from the ENGOT-OV16/NOVA trial. METHODS This multicenter, double-blind, randomized, controlled phase III trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of niraparib for the treatment of recurrent ovarian cancer. Patients were randomly assigned 2:1 to receive either once-daily niraparib 300 mg or placebo. Two independent cohorts were enrolled based on germline BRCA mutation status. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival, reported previously. Long-term safety data were from the most recent data cutoff (September 2017). RESULTS Overall, 367 patients received niraparib 300 mg once daily. Dose reductions due to TEAEs were highest in month 1 (34%) and declined every month thereafter. Incidence of any-grade and grade ≥ 3 hematologic and symptomatic TEAEs was also highest in month 1 and subsequently declined. Incidence of grade ≥ 3 thrombocytopenia decreased from 28% (month 1) to 9% and 5% (months 2 and 3, respectively), with protocol-directed dose interruptions and/or reductions. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) were reported in 2 and 6 niraparib-treated patients, respectively, and in 1 placebo patient each. Treatment discontinuations due to TEAEs were <5% in each month and time interval measured. CONCLUSION These data demonstrate the importance of appropriate dose reduction according to toxicity criteria and support the safe long-term use of niraparib for maintenance treatment in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer. Abstract
Fluidized bed reactor Fenton (FBR-Fenton) process was adopted for reverse osmosis concentrate (ROC) treatment with three types of carriers, including sand, zeolite and granular activated carbon (GAC). Adsorption studies demonstrated that GAC achieved the best adsorption performance (maximum COD removal of 78% in 15 h) among the three carriers, and the adsorption of ROC organic matters followed a two-stage adsorption model. Fenton oxidations were carried out in three fluidized beds after column saturation, and FBR-Fenton/GAC process achieved highest COD removal (72%) and most BOD5/COD ratio enhancement (from 0.03 to 0.3) in ROC. Long-term operation data demonstrated good performance stability of GAC as the carrier. In addition, GAC fluidized bed obtained highest total iron removal rate via iron crystallization process. Continuous in-situ GAC regeneration with more than 90% recoveries of surface area, pore volume and adsorption capacity were observed along the ROC treatment with FBR-Fenton/GAC process. Mechanism studies revealed that better COD removal performance in FBR-Fenton/GAC process was attributed to the combining effects of homogenous Fenton reaction, GAC adsorption and GAC/H2O2 catalytic reaction.

Abstract
A beam-normal single-spin asymmetry generated in the scattering of transversely polarized electrons from unpolarized nucleons is an observable related to the imaginary part of the two-photon exchange process. We report a 2% precision measurement of the beam-normal single-spin asymmetry in elastic electron-proton scattering with a mean scattering angle of θ_{lab}=7.9° and a mean energy of 1.149 GeV. The asymmetry result is B_{n}=-5.194±0.067(stat)±0.082 (syst) ppm. This is the most precise measurement of this quantity available to date and therefore provides a stringent test of two-photon exchange models at far-forward scattering angles (θ_{lab}→0) where they should be most reliable.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of external scleral plaque radiotherapy (PRT) in the treatment of uveal melanoma (UM). Methods: This was a retrospective case series study. The data of 819 patients who underwent ophthalmic PRT from July 2007 to November 2017 at Tongren Hospital Affiliated to Beijing Capital Medical University was collected, including preoperative visual acuity, intraocular pressure and slit lamp microscope, color fundus photography, indirect ophthalmoscopy, color Doppler ultrasound, fundus fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, orbital nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, PRT times and time, complications, follow-up time, the maximum basal diameter and height of the tumor UM half a year after the applicator was removed, tumor metastasis rate, mortality and visual acuity observed at the last follow-up. The tumor growth was considered when the tumor height increased by 2.0 mm or the extension of any boundary of the tumor was 2.5 mm; otherwise, the treatment was defined as effective. The paired t test and Kaplan-Meier survival curve were used for statistical analysis. Results: There were 408 males and 411 females. The age ranged from 13 to 85 years (mean, 47 years). Nine patients had ciliary body melanoma, 43 patients had choroidal melanoma involving the ciliary body, and 767 patients had choroidal melanoma. In all 819 eyes, the tumor was medium-sized in 697 eyes and large in 110 eyes. All patients were treated with PRT only one time. The average radiotherapy time was 15 days (range, 6 to 50 d). All operations were successfully completed, with no active bleeding, infection, adjacent tissue injury and other related complications. At 6 months after the treatment, the maximum basal diameter of the tumor was (12.41±3.20) mm, which was significantly different from that before treatment (12.82±3.21) mm (t=2.40, P<0.01); the tumor height was (6.18±2.55) mm, which was significantly different from that before treatment (7.21±2.57) mm (t=4.05, P<0.01). The average follow-up time was (34±24) months (range, 1 to 125 months). Twenty-five patients lost follow-up at 2 years after the PRT, and 71 patients underwent enucleation. The effective rate of the PRT treatment was 88.3% (723/819), and the eyeball retention rate was 91.1% (723/794). The visual acuity remained stable in 393 eyes, decreased in 344 eyes, and improved in 82 eyes. Sixty patients had systemic metastasis (liver, bone or breast metastasis). Twenty-two patients died of tumor metastasis. The 5-year metastasis rate was 12.8%; the 5-year mortality rate was 5.8%; the 10-year metastasis rate was 20.6%; the 10-year mortality rate was 5.8%. Conclusions: PRT is safe and effective in the treatment for UM and can preserve some useful visual acuity. PRT can be used as the main treatment for medium-sized UM.(Chin J Ophthalmol, 2020, 56: 670-675).

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the epidemic situation and influencing factors of plague in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous prefectures (Dehong) from 1950 to 2019, for the improvement of strategies on prevention and control of the disease. Methods: The epidemic situation and surveillance data of animal and human plague in Dehong prefecture from 1950 to 2019 were collected and analyzed by descriptive epidemiological methods. Multiple linear regression equations were established by SPSS 20.0 software to analyze the relationship between plague among animals and rat density and flea index, as well as the relationship between human plague and plague among animals. Results: In Dehong prefecture, plague experienced a phenomenon of epidemic-resting-epidemic-resting cycle, between 1950 and 2019. During this period, 614 epidemic spots were identified in 36 townships of five counties/cities,. Human plague had been prevalent for 15 years, with 1 153 human cases and 379 deaths involved. Between 1982 and 2019, 261 319 rodents were captured, of which Rattus flavipectus accounted for 70.95%(185 421/261 319). A total of 70 124 fleas were seized with 76.65%(53 752/70 124), xenopsylla cheopis as fleas. The index of fleas and free fleas were 0.57 and 0.22 respectively. A total of 1 577 strains of Yersinia pestis were isolated from 285 091 animal specimens and 418 strains of Yersinia pestis were isolated from 60 119 groups of fleas, with 255 F1 antibody positive samples were detected from 64 157 sera samples. Neither Yersinia pestis nor the outbreak of plague had been noticed since 2008. Correlations between both animal plagues and rat density, as well as human plague and animals plague were noticed from the regression analysis. Conclusions: The epidemics of plague were with long-term and stable nature, in Dehong prefecture. Affected by many factors, plague seemed in a resting period currently. However, we should be reminded that the fact that outbreak of plague may revive at some uncertaint point. Hence in order to prevent human plague, strategies as careful surveillance programs on animals, need to be strenthened.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The effects and mechanisms of melatonin on Alzheimer's disease (AD) are still not researched thoroughly. 20E2 cells (HEK293-APPswe cells) are a cellular model of AD. The modulation effects of melatonin on the structure and function of mitochondria in 20E2 cells need to be studied. MATERIALS AND METHODS The Alzheimer's disease (AD) cell model was assessed for cell viability, expression levels of mitochondrial biogenesis factors (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha [PGC-1α], nuclear respiratory factor 1 [NRF1], nuclear respiratory factor 2 [NRF2], mitochondrial transcription factor A [TFAM]), mitochondrial membrane potential, Na+-K+-adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) and cytochrome C oxidase activity, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) level, mitochondrial DNA/nuclear DNA (mtDNA/nDNA) ratio, and mitochondrial structure with and without melatonin. RESULTS Melatonin improved 20E2 cell viability, expression of mitochondrial biogenesis factors (PGC-1α, NRF1, NRF2, TFAM), mitochondrial membrane potential, Na+-K+-ATPase, and cytochrome C oxidase activity, ATP level, mtDNA/nDNA ratio, mitochondrial structure, and decreased amyloidogenic amyloid precursor protein processing. CONCLUSIONS Mitochondrial biogenesis disorder is associated with the pathogenesis of AD through PGC-1α-NRF-TFAM pathway, and melatonin improves the mitochondrial structure and function by enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and decreasing amyloidogenic APP processing in Alzheimer's disease.

Inattention symptoms were associated with the time on TMT-2 of ADHD-HFA group (r=0.275 and 0.329, all P<0.05). The score of item 1 in autism spectrum screening questionnaire (ASSQ) was negatively correlated with immediate recall structure and detail scores as well as delay structure scores of Rey complex figure test (r=-0.358, -0.326 and -0.306, all P<0.05). The score of item 4 was positively correlated with errors of Stroop4 (r=0.296, P<0.05). The score of item 22 was positively correlated with time of color interference (r=0.279, P<0.05). Conclusions: Children with ADHD-HFA are likely to demonstrate the spatial working memory, shifting and inhibition deficits associated with ADHD alone. Some domains of executive function impairment in ADHD-HFA group are related with symptoms of inattention/hyperactivity and autism.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the molecular characteristics and correlation among isolated strains of Brucella melitensis (BM) so as to improve the strategies on prevention and control of the disease in Jiangxi province. Methods: A total of 25 strains of BM isolated from human in 17 counties of Jiangxi province were analyzed by multiple locus variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) method. Results: A total of 25 strains of BM were classified into 24 independent genotypes with similarities between 67.00% and 100.00% and Simpson index between 0.000 and 0.773. There were 3 genotypes in MLVA8, including 60.00% (15/25) as 42 genotype, 32.00% (8/25) as 43 genotype, and 8.00% (2/25) as 63 genotype, respectively. There were 7 genotypes in MLVA11 identified, with 116 genotype and 125 genotype the main genotypes, accounting for 56.00% (14/25) of all the identified strains. Conclusions: Genes from all the 25 strains of BM that isolated from human being were with high genetic diversities, and various, genotypes. However, no obvious epidemiological correlation was noticed among these strains, indicating the complexity of the source of infection on Brucella in Jiangxi province.

Abstract
This study aims to observe the efficacy of supplemented Er-xian decoction combined with acupoint application in treating poor ovarian response (POR). This study was a randomized controlled trial. A total of 80 patients, who were treated in the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2016 to December 2017, were divided into two groups by tables of random numbers: experimental group (n = 40), and control group (n = 40). In the experimental group, patients orally received supplemented Er-xian decoction with acupoint application. In the control group, a Kuntai capsule was administered according to the course of treatment. The therapeutic effects in the two groups were observed and compared. In the experimental group, the total effective rate was 90%, the cure rate was 15% (six patients), the markedly effective rate was 35% (14 patients), the effective rate was 40% (16 patients), and the ineffective rate was 10% (four patients). In the control group, the total effective rate was 50%, the cure rate was 5% (two patients), the markedly effective rate was 15% (six patients), the effective rate was 30% (12 patients), and the ineffective rate was 50% (20 patients). The differences were statistically significant (P > 0.05). Definite efficacy was observed when a poor ovarian response was treated by supplemented Er-xian decoction combined with acupoint application. Improvements in perimenopausal symptoms, menstruation conditions, hormone levels, inhibin B (INHB), and antral follicle count (AFC) were markedly better in the experimental group than in the control group. In addition, the treatment was safe and had few side effects.

CP Properties of Higgs Boson Interactions with Top Quarks in the tt[over ¯]H and tH Processes Using H→γγ with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:061802. [PMID: 32845699 DOI: 10.1103/physrevlett.125.061802] [Citation(s) in RCA: 2] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/10/2020] [Accepted: 06/15/2020] [Indexed: 06/11/2023]
Abstract
A study of the charge conjugation and parity (CP) properties of the interaction between the Higgs boson and top quarks is presented. Higgs bosons are identified via the diphoton decay channel (H→γγ), and their production in association with a top quark pair (tt[over ¯]H) or single top quark (tH) is studied. The analysis uses 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Assuming a CP-even coupling, the tt[over ¯]H process is observed with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. The measured cross section times H→γγ branching ratio is 1.64_{-0.36}^{+0.38}(stat)_{-0.14}^{+0.17}(sys) fb, and the measured rate for tt[over ¯]H is 1.43_{-0.31}^{+0.33}(stat)_{-0.15}^{+0.21}(sys) times the Standard Model expectation. The tH production process is not observed and an upper limit on its rate of 12 times the Standard Model expectation is set. A CP-mixing angle greater (less) than 43 (-43)° is excluded at 95% confidence level.

The expression and significance of lncRNA HOST2 and microRNA let-7b in HPV-positive cervical cancer tissues and cell lines. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2020; 23:2380-2390. [PMID: 30964163 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_201903_17384] [Citation(s) in RCA: 6] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/12/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study attempted to investigate the expression and significance of lncRNA HOST2 (human ovarian cancer-specific transcript 2) and microRNA let-7b in human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive cervical cancer (CC) tissues and cell lines. PATIENTS AND METHODS The expression of levels of HOST2 and let-7b were detected by qRT-PCR in HPV-positive CC tissues and cell lines. The HPV-positive CaSki and HeLa cells were divided into the Blank, NC, pcDNA3.0-HOST2, siHOST2, let-7b mimic, and pcDNA3.0-HOST2+let-7b mimic groups. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assay was employed to verify the targeting relationship between HOST2 and let-7b, MTT and flow cytometry to determinate cell proliferation and apoptosis, and wound-healing and transwell assays to evaluate cell migration and invasion capabilities. RESULTS HOST2 was up-regulated but let-7b was down-regulated in HPV-positive CC tissues and cells. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assay confirmed the targeting relationship between HOST2 and let-7b. Over-expressed HOST2 reduced let-7b expression, promoted proliferation migration and invasion and inhibited the apoptosis of CaSki and HeLa cells; however, silencing HOST2 or overexpressing let-7b enhanced the expression of let-7b, inhibited proliferation migration and invasion, and promoted the apoptosis of CaSki and HeLa cells, and let-7b mimic could reverse the promoting effect of HOST2 on the growth of CC cells. CONCLUSIONS HOST2 was upregulated in HPV-positive CC tissues and cells, which could promote the proliferation, migration and invasion, but inhibit the apoptosis of HPV-positive CC cells via inhibition of let-7b.

Knockdown of microRNA-103a-3p inhibits the malignancy of thyroid cancer cells through Hippo signaling pathway by upregulating LATS1. Neoplasma 2020; 67:1266-1278. Abstract
MicroRNA (miR)-103a-3p has been shown to be involved in the development and progression of several types of cancer. However, the role of miR-103a-3p in thyroid cancer remains unclear. This study investigated the effects of miR-103a-3p on the biological characteristics of thyroid cancer cells and related mechanisms. In the present study, we found that the expression of miR-103a-3p was increased in thyroid cancer tissues compared to that in non-cancerous tissues. Additionally, the expression of miR-103a-3p in thyroid cancer cell lines (TPC-1, SW579, BHT101, K1) was markedly higher than that in the human thyroid cell line (Nthy-ori3-1). Silencing of miR-103a-3p obviously inhibited proliferation, migration, and invasion and promoted apoptosis of BHT101 cells. miR-103a-3p upregulation promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion and inhibited apoptosis of K1 cells. Mechanistically, LATS1 was identified as a functional target of miR-103a-3p, and miR-103a-3p negatively regulated LATS1 expression. miR-103a-3p knockdown (or upregulation) partially reversed the effects of LATS1 knockdown (or overexpression) on proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion of thyroid cancer cells. LATS1 knockdown inhibited the phosphorylation of YAP in BHT101 cells and promoted the nuclear translocation of YAP. Whereas, miR-103a-3p downregulation reversed the inhibitory effect of LATS1 knockdown on the Hippo signaling pathway. Moreover, overexpression of LATS1 induced YAP phosphorylation in K1 cells and inhibits nuclear translocation of YAP, and the upregulation of miR-103a-3p reversed this effect. The knockdown of miR-103a-3p inhibited tumor growth and progression in vivo. Taken together, knockdown of miR-103a-3p inhibits proliferation, migration, and invasion and promotes apoptosis of thyroid cancer cells through the Hippo signaling pathway by upregulating LATS1.

Abstract
A search for heavy neutral Higgs bosons is performed using the LHC Run 2 data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector. The search for heavy resonances is performed over the mass range 0.2-2.5 TeV for the τ^{+}τ^{-} decay with at least one τ-lepton decaying into final states with hadrons. The data are in good agreement with the background prediction of the standard model. In the M_{h}^{125} scenario of the minimal supersymmetric standard model, values of tanβ>8 and tanβ>21 are excluded at the 95% confidence level for neutral Higgs boson masses of 1.0 and 1.5 TeV, respectively, where tanβ is the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublets.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the performance of High-risk HPV typing detection in cervical cancer screening. Methods: A total of 3 231 women were recruited as the subjects of cervical cancer screening from Jiyuan city of Henan provinces from June to July 2017. All women underwent HPV DNA test. The women with cytological examination ≥ASCUS or cytological examination negative and HPV 16/18 positive underwent colposcopy biopsy and pathological examination. Pathological diagnosis was used as the gold standard. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value(NPV) as well as corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) of HR-HPV and HPV 16/18 were calculated. Results: The mean age of 3 231 subjects selected in this study was 46.84±10.00 (21-64) years old. 524 subjects had the positive results of HR-HPV, including 91 of HPV16 and 15 of HPV18. Pathological test result CIN2+ was the gold standard. The sensitivity and specificity of HR-HPV for cervical precancer lesions screening were 93.75 (95%CI: 79.85-98.27) and 84.56% (95%CI: 83.26-85.77), respectively. To compared with HR-HPV, HPV16/18 had low sensitivity (65.63%, 95%CI: 48.31-79.59)and higher specificity (97.44%, 95%CI: 96.83-97.93). After age stratification by age 30 and 45, the sensitivity of HPV 16/18 was same with HR-HPV (100%, 95%CI: 34.24-100.00), the specificity of HPV 16/18 was higher than HR-HPV (98.71%, 95%CI: 96.27-99.56 vs 84.48%, 95%CI: 79.27-88.58) in<30 age group. The sensitivity of HR-HPVin 30-45 and ≥45 age group were higher than HPV16/18 (85.71%, 95%CI: 48.69-97.43 vs 71.43%, 95%CI: 35.89-91.78, 95.65%, 95%CI: 79.01-99.23 vs 60.87%, 95%CI: 40.79-77.84), but the specificity werelower than HPV16/18 (86.89%, 95%CI: 84.58-88.90 vs 98.51%, 95%CI: 97.51-99.11、83.49%, 95%CI: 81.81-85.04 vs 96.80%, 95%CI: 95.94-97.48). Conclusions: HR-HPV detection has relatively high sensitivity and specificity in cervical cancer screening. For >30 years old women, HR-HPV is more recommended in cervical cancer screening. Therefore, HR-HPV detection is an effective method for cervical cancer screening.

Abstract
The development of two-dimensional (2D) magnetic materials with half-metallic characteristics is of great interest because of their promising applications in spintronic devices with high circuit integration density and low energy consumption. Here, by using density functional theory calculations, ab initio molecular dynamics, and Monte Carlo simulation, we study the stability, electronic structure, and magnetic properties of a OsI3 monolayer, of which crystalline bulk is predicted to be a van der Waals layered ferromagnetic (FM) semiconductor. Our results reveal that the OsI3 monolayer can be easily exfoliated from the bulk phase with small cleavage energy and is energetically and thermodynamically stable at room temperature. Intrinsic half-metallicity with a wide bandgap and FM ordering with an estimated TC = 35 K are found for the OsI3 monolayer. Specifically, the FM ordering can be maintained under external biaxial strain from -2% to 5%. The in-plane magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy of the 2D OsI3 monolayer reaches up to 3.89 meV/OsI3, which is an order larger than that of most magnetic 2D materials such as the representative monolayer CrI3. The excellent magnetic features of the OsI3 monolayer therefore render it a promising 2D candidate for spintronic applications.
