Abstract
Luteolin is a common dietary flavonoid present in Chinese herbal medicines that has been reported to have important anti-inflammatory properties. Previous studies have shown that luteolin is an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative agent. In this study, the anti-virus inflammatory capacity of luteolin and its molecular mechanisms of action were analyzed. The cytotoxic effects of luteolin were assessed in the presence or absence of pseudorabies virus (PRV) via LDH and MTT assays. The results showed that luteolin (<10μM) had no toxic effects and there were tendencies toward higher cell survival. In PRV-infected RAW264.7 cells, luteolin potently inhibited the production of NO, iNOS, COX-2 and inflammatory cytokine production. Luteolin did not inhibit the phosphorylation of ERK 1/2, p38, and JNK 1/2 either. We found that PRV-induced NF-κB activation is regulated through inhibition of STAT1and STAT3 phosphorylation in response to luteolin. Additionally, luteolin caused the induction of HO-1 via upregulation of Nrf2, both of which are involved in the secretion of proinflammatory mediators. The blockade of HO-1 expression with SnPP, a HO-1 inhibitor, attenuated HO-1 induction by luteolin and thus mitigated its anti-inflammatory effects during PRV-infected RAW264.7 cells. Taken together, our data indicate that luteolin diminishes the proinflammatory mediators NO, inflammatory cytokines and the expression of their regulatory genes, iNOS and COX-2, in PRV-infected RAW264.7 cells by inhibiting STAT1/3 dependent NF-κB activation and inducing Nrf2mediated HO-1 expression.

Abstract
Hydroxyapatite (HA) is one of the most commonly used materials for the coating of bioceramic titanium (Ti) alloys. However, HA has poor mechanical properties and a low bonding strength. Accordingly, the present study replaces HA with a composite coating material consisting of fluorapatite (FA) and 20 wt % yttria (3 mol %) stabilized zirconia (ZrO₂, 3Y-TZP). The FA/ZrO₂ coatings are deposited on Ti6Al4V substrates using a Nd:YAG laser cladding system with laser powers and travel speeds of 400 W/200 mm/min, 800 W/400 mm/min, and 1200 W/600 mm/min, respectively. The experimental results show that a significant inter-diffusion of the alloying elements occurs between the coating layer (CL) and the transition layer (TL). Consequently, a strong metallurgical bond is formed between them. During the cladding process, the ZrO₂ is completely decomposed, while the FA is partially decomposed. As a result, the CLs of all the specimens consist mainly of FA, Ca₄(PO₄)₂O (TTCP), CaF₂, CaZrO₃, CaTiO₃ and monoclinic phase ZrO₂ (m-ZrO₂), together with a small amount of θ-Al₂O₃. As the laser power is increased, CaO, CaCO₃ and trace amounts of tetragonal phase ZrO₂ (t-ZrO₂) also appear. As the laser power increases from 400 to 800 W, the CL hardness also increases as a result of microstructural refinement and densification. However, at the highest laser power of 1200 W, the CL hardness reduces significantly due to the formation of large amounts of relatively soft CaO and CaCO₃ phase.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the efficacy and safety of surgery and endovascular management in treating Takayasu arteritis. METHODS The data of 116 patients (24 males and 92 females; mean age (32±12) years) with Takayasu arteritis and underwent surgery or endovascular therapy was retrospective analyzed. According to the two different surgical procedures, the patients were divided into two groups: open repair group and endovascular repair group. One hundred and fifty-four surgical procedures were done including 69 cases of open repair and 85 cases of endovascular repair. A total of 211 arterial lesions were revascularized (open repair 114; endovascular repair 97). RESULTS Among the 154 surgical procedures, 11(7.1%) presented a complication during perioperative period including 6(8.7%) of open repair and 5(5.9%) of endovascular repair. After a median follow-up of 38.5(0.5-142.0) months, three(4.3%) cases of stroke and death were observed in open repair group, two(2.3%) cases of stroke and 4(4.7%) cases of death were observed in endovascular repair group. At 1, 3, 5 and 10 years of follow-up, primary patency rate of open repair and endovascular repair were 95.0% and 89.3%, 84.3% and 69.8%, 73.3% and 56.3%, 53.4% and 48.1%, respectively; Primary assisted patency rate were 100% and 97.5%, 90.4% and 78.2%, 79.1% and 72.8%, 60.7% and 54.0%, respectively; Secondary patency rate were 100% and 98.8%, 95.6% and 92.7%, 85.8% and 78.1%, 74.8% and 58.0%, respectively. Cumulative survival rate were 97.0% and 100%, 97.0% and 97.6%, 97.0% and 90.6%, 91.3% and 84.5%, respectively (χ(2)=0.182, P=0.669). CONCLUSIONS Both of the surgical revascularization and endovascular management are safe and effective in the treatment of Takayasu arteritis. Although long-term patency of endovascular therapy is low, it can be performed repeatedly and can be used as a preferred approach in treating a short stenosis. Surgical repair shows excellent long-term durability, it seems to be more suitable for complex lesions and failure cases of endovascular management.

Abstract
The clinical utility of leukocytosis in risk assessment for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is still unclear. We aim to demonstrate the prognostic value of leukocyte counts independent from traditional risk factors and the TIMI risk score (TRS) for STEMI and to propose a practical model comprising leukocyte count for early triage in STEMI undergoing primary angioplasty. A prospective database (n = 796) of consecutive STEMI cases receiving primary angioplasty at a tertiary medical center was retrospectively analyzed in the period from February 1, 2007 through December 31, 2012. Primary endpoints were 30-day and 1-year mortality. Propensity score-adjusted Cox regression models and subdivision analysis were performed. Leukocytosis group (n = 306) had higher 30-day mortality (5.9% vs 3.1%, P = 0.048) and 1-year mortality (9.2% vs 5.1%, P = 0.022). After adjustment by propensity score and TRS, leukocyte count (per 10/μL) was an independent predictor of 1-year mortality (HR: 1.086, 95% CI: 1.034-1.140, P = 0.001). Subdivision analysis demonstrated the correlation between leukocytosis and higher 1-year mortality within both high and low TRS strata (divided by 4, the median of TRS). Additionally, 24% (191 out of 796) of patients were characterized by nonleukocytosis and TRS < 4, having 0% of mortality rate at 1-year follow-up. In conclusion, leukocyte count is an independent prognostic factor adding incremental value to TRS for STEMI. Nonleukocytosis in conjunction with TRS < 4 identifies a large patient group at extremely low risk and thus provides rapid early triage for STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI. This finding is worth validation in the future.

Abstract
We use a nonequilibrium Monte Carlo simulation method and dynamical scaling to study the phase transition in three-dimensional Ising spin glasses. The transition point is repeatedly approached at finite velocity v (temperature change versus time) in Monte Carlo simulations starting at a high temperature. This approach has the advantage that the equilibrium limit does not have to be strictly reached for a scaling analysis to yield critical exponents. For the dynamic exponent we obtain z=5.85(9) for bimodal couplings distribution and z=6.00(10) for the Gaussian case. Assuming universal dynamic scaling, we combine the two results and obtain z=5.93±0.07 for generic 3D Ising spin glasses.

Abstract
Left ventricular free wall rupture usually leads to acute hemopericardium and sudden cardiac death resulting in cardiac tamponade. Rarely, only a few patients with subacute free wall rupture such as oozing-type ventricular rupture or left ventricular false aneurysm may permit time for pericardiocentesis and surgery. We report a 63-year-old man with ST-elevation myocardial infarction who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention about 12 hours from the onset, and cardiac tamponade occurred on the second day. An intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) was immediately inserted for hemodynamic support. After 100 mL of pericardial fresh blood was drained from the percardial cavity, his hemodynamic collapse was promptly improved with IABP support. In the following 24 hours, about 600 mL of hemorrhagic pericardial fluid was drained. The most likely diagnosis was concerning for oozing-type ventricular rupture, and a conservative approach was decided. The patient survived to the acute phase under IABP support and was discharged with complete recovery.

Abstract
We discuss an Ising spin glass where each S=1/2 spin is coupled antiferromagnetically to three other spins (3-regular graphs). Inducing quantum fluctuations by a time-dependent transverse field, we use out-of-equilibrium quantum Monte Carlo simulations to study dynamic scaling at the quantum glass transition. Comparing the dynamic exponent and other critical exponents with those of the classical (temperature-driven) transition, we conclude that quantum annealing is less efficient than classical simulated annealing in bringing the system into the glass phase. Quantum computing based on the quantum annealing paradigm is therefore inferior to classical simulated annealing for this class of problems. We also comment on previous simulations where a parameter is changed with the simulation time, which is very different from the true Hamiltonian dynamics simulated here.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of patients with lumbar degeneration and instability treated with percutaneous pedicle screw fixation and minimally invasive lumbar interbody fusion. Twenty-one patients were selected in our hospital from November, 2012 to March, 2013. The patients with an average age 55.62 years, including 8 vertebral spondylolisthesis, 4 lumbar intervertebral disc herniation, and 9 lumbar spinal canal stenosis cases. All the patients were managed to take the lumbar MRI and radiographs. The comparison of preoperative and postoperative (3 days, 2 weeks, 3 months) VAS and ODI score were analyzed. The results indicated that VAS scores were 7.14 ± 0.79 before operation, and 5.19 ± 0.81 in 3 days after operation, 4 ± 0.84 after 2 weeks, and 2.67 ± 0.66 after 3 months. The pain was relieved, and the postoperative VAS score was lower than that before treatment (P < 0.05). ODI score was 55.8 ± 11.4 before operation, 47.38 ± 9.38 after 3 days, 41.38 ± 8.09 after 2 weeks, 35.76 ± 4.50 after 3 months. ODI score was obviously decreased (P < 0.05). In conclusion, percutaneous pedicle screw fixation combined with minimally invasive interbody fusion is a safe, effective, feasible minimally invasive spine operation, with worthy for spreading.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Caffeate derivatives have been reported to exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. To reveal the cytotoxic and apoptotic effects of caffeate derivatives, we studied the effects of octyl, phenylpropyl, and decyl caffeates on cell growth and apoptosis in A549 human lung carcinoma cells. METHODS A549 human lung carcinoma cells were treated with 0-100 μM of caffeate derivatives for 0-48 hours. The cytotoxic and apoptotic effects were evaluated by a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay for cell viability, propidium iodide staining method for cell morphology, mitochondrial membrane potential analysis, and Western blot for protein expression. RESULTS Octyl, phenylpropyl, and decyl caffeates all significantly decreased the cell viability of A549 cells with 50% inhibitory concentration values of 54.2 ± 10.1 μM, 80.2 ± 1.3 μM, and 74.9 ± 2.1 μM, respectively. Propidium iodide staining revealed that apoptotic bodies appeared when cells were treated with octyl and decyl caffeates. Treatment of A549 cells with octyl and decyl caffeates caused the loss of mitochondria membrane potential. Western blots revealed that octyl and decyl caffeates stimulate an increase in the protein levels of Fas, FasL, and Apaf-1. Moreover, these compounds changed the levels of pro- and antiapoptotic Bcl-2 family members and induced the activation of caspase-12, -9, and -3, which was followed by cleavage of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase. CONCLUSION These results demonstrate that octyl and decyl caffeates induce cell apoptosis in A549 human lung carcinoma cells.

Abstract
Nitrogen is an essential element for plant growth and development; however, due to environmental pollution, high nitrate concentrations accumulate in the edible parts of these leafy vegetables, particularly if excessive nitrogen fertilizer has been applied. Consuming these crops can harm human health; thus, developing a suitable strategy for the agricultural application of nitrogen fertilizer is important. Organic, inorganic, and liquid fertilizers were utilized in this study to investigate their effect on nitrate concentrations and lettuce growth. The results of this pot experiment show that the total nitrogen concentration in soil and the nitrate concentration in lettuce increased as the amount of nitrogen fertilizer increased. If the recommended amount of inorganic fertilizer (200 kg·N·ha⁻¹) is used as a standard of comparison, lettuce augmented with organic fertilizers (200 kg·N·ha⁻¹) have significantly longer and wider leaves, higher shoot, and lower concentrations of nitrate.
