Abstract
Studies comparing gut microbiota profiles of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients have shown several changes in microbiota composition, with marked reduction of local biodiversity relative to that of healthy controls. Modulation of the bacterial community is a promising strategy to reduce the proportion of harmful microorganisms and increase the proportion of beneficial bacteria; this is expected to prevent or treat IBD. The exact mechanism of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) remains unknown; however, replacing the host microbiota can reestablish gut microbial composition and function in IBD patients. The present report describes an ulcerative colitis patient who underwent FMT. A 17-year-old male with moderate to severe clinical activity, which was refractory to mesalazine, azathioprine, and infliximab, underwent FMT as alternative therapy. The patient exhibited clinical improvement after the procedure; however, the symptoms returned. A second FMT was performed 8 months after the first procedure, but the patient did not improve. In conclusion, despite the FMT failure observed in this patient, the procedure is a promising therapeutic option for IBD patients, and more in-depth studies of this method are needed.

Abstract
Human gait analysis is of utmost importance in understanding several aspects of human movement. In clinical practice, characterizing movement in order to obtain accurate and reliable information is a major challenge, and physicians usually rely on direct observation in order to evaluate a patient's motor abilities. In this contribution, a system that can objectively analyze the patients gait and generate an on the fly, targeted and optimized gait analysis report is presented. It is an extension to an existing system that could be used without interfering with the healthcare environment, which did not provide any on the fly feedback to physicians. Patient data are acquired using Kinect v2, followed by data processing, gait specific feature extraction, ending with the generation of a quantitative on the fly report. To the best of our knowledge, the complete system fills the gap as a proper gait analysis system, i.e., a low-cost tool that can be applied without interfering with the healthcare environment, provide quantitative gait information and on the fly feedback to physicians through a motion quantification report that can be useful in multiple areas.

Abstract
Very preterm infants (VPT) and, especially extreme low gestational age (ELGA) preterms, often on the threshold of viability, make the headlines of both, the scientific as well as the popular press. However, all together they represent between 1 and 2% of all livebirths. Late preterms (LPT) those born between 34/07 and 36/06 weeks, on the other hand, may account for up to 80% of all preterms and for some 5-8% of all births. Although mortality is low they are prone to increasing neonatal morbidities posing a considerable medical, financial and psychosocial burden. In the last years, for many reasons, LPT appear to have increased considerably throughout the western world. But are LPT neonates all the same? In spite of overlapping gestational ages (GA) LPT may behave quite differently depending on circumstances surrounding their pre- and postnatal events. We can identify three different classes of LPT neonates: spontaneous late preterms (SpLPT) born in the absence of previous maternal illnesses and/or pregnancy related disorders; Induced LPT (IdLPT) due to maternal/fetal complications and those babies being born after 34-week gestation from postponed delivery at an earlier GA (PtLPT) - and they are quite different babies, with different behavior, despite a common and same gestational age.

Abstract
Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a commonly used model organism for understanding eukaryotic gene function. However, the close proximity between yeast genes can complicate the interpretation of yeast genetic data, particularly high-throughput data. In this study, we examined the interplay between genes encoding components of the PAF1 complex and VPS36, the gene located next to CDC73 on chromosome XII. The PAF1 complex (Cdc73, Paf1, Ctr9, Leo1, and Rtf1, in yeast) affects RNA levels by affecting transcription, histone modifications, and post-transcriptional RNA processing. The human PAF1 complex is linked to cancer, and in yeast, it has been reported to play a role in telomere biology. Vps36, part of the ESCRT-II complex, is involved in sorting proteins for vacuolar/lysosomal degradation. We document a complex set of genetic interactions, which include an adjacent gene effect between CDC73 and VPS36 and synthetic sickness between vps36Δ and cdc73Δ, paf1Δ, or ctr9Δ. Importantly, paf1Δ and ctr9Δ are synthetically lethal with deletions of other components of the ESCRT-II (SNF8 and VPS25), ESCRT-I (STP22), or ESCRT-III (SNF7) complexes. We found that RNA levels of VPS36, but not other ESCRT components, are positively regulated by all components of the PAF1 complex. Finally, we show that deletion of ESCRT components decreases the telomere length in the S288C yeast genetic background, but not in the W303 background. Together, our results outline complex interactions, in cis and in trans, between genes encoding PAF1 and ESCRT-II complex components that affect telomere function and cell viability in yeast.

Abstract
The cytokine erythropoietin (EPO) is the master regulator of erythropoiesis. Intriguingly, many studies have shown that the cognitive performance of patients receiving EPO for its hematopoietic effects is enhanced, which prompted the growing interest in the use of EPO-based strategies to treat neuropsychiatric disorders. EPO plays key roles in brain development and maturation, but also modulates synaptic transmission. However, the mechanisms underlying the latter have remained elusive. Here, we show that acute (40-60 min) exposure to EPO presynaptically downregulates spontaneous and afferent-evoked excitatory transmission, without affecting basal firing of action potentials. Conversely, prolonged (3 h) exposure to EPO, if followed by a recovery period (1 h), is able to elicit a homeostatic increase in excitatory spontaneous, but not in evoked, synaptic transmission. These data lend support to the emerging view that segregated pathways underlie spontaneous and evoked neurotransmitter release. Furthermore, we show that prolonged exposure to EPO facilitates a form of hippocampal long-term potentiation that requires noncanonical recruitment of calcium-permeable AMPA receptors for its maintenance. These findings provide important new insight into the mechanisms by which EPO enhances neuronal function, learning, and memory.

Abstract
Buckminster fullerene (C60) based hybrid metal oxide materials are receiving considerable attention because of their excellent fundamental and applied aspects, like semiconducting, electron transfer, luminescent behaviors, etc. and this work briefly discusses the successful fabrication of C60 decorated ZnO tetrapod materials and their detailed structure-property relationships including device sensing applications. The electron microscopy investigations indicate that a quite dense surface coverage of ZnO tetrapods with C60 clusters is achieved. The spectroscopy studies confirmed the identification of the C60 vibrational modes and the C60 induced changes in the absorption and luminescence properties of the ZnO tetrapods. An increased C60 concentration on ZnO results in steeper ZnO bandgap absorption followed by well-defined free exciton and 3.31 eV line emissions. As expected, higher amounts of C60 increase the intensity of C60-related visible absorption bands. Pumping the samples with photons with an energy corresponding to these absorption band maxima leads to additional emission from ZnO showing an effective charge transfer phenomenon from C60 to the ZnO host. The density of states model obtained from DFT studies for pure and C60 coated ZnO surfaces confirms the experimental observations. The fabricated C60-ZnO hybrid tetrapod based micro- and nanodevices showed interesting ethanol gas sensing characteristics.

Abstract
A 51-year-old female patient with a recent hospital admission reported to the emergency room (ER) with progressive worsening of fatigue, dyspnoea and chest discomfort. She had been recently admitted and discharged with the diagnosis of pericarditis and medicated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and diuretics. She returned to the ER with persisting symptoms. Echocardiography was repeated and showed signs of elevated right ventricular systolic pressure and a slightly increased moderate/severe pericardial effusion without signs of cardiac tamponade. The patient was admitted and further evaluation confirmed an underlying case of advanced systemic sclerosis with skin, vascular, pulmonary and cardiac involvement. The patient was referred to specialised consults in autoimmune pathology and pulmonary arterial hypertension. She was started on bosentan and corticosteroids, presenting a favourable clinical evolution although symptoms of exertional dyspnoea persist.

Abstract
The conserved PAF1 complex (Cdc73, Paf1, Ctr9, Leo1 and Rtf1, in yeast), binds RNA pol II, and affects levels of many RNAs. Although PAF1 is a complex, there is evidence that different components perform different functions. In yeast, Cdc73, Paf1 and Ctr9 maintain normal telomerase RNA (TLC1) levels and affect telomere length. Here we report a new connection between the PAF1 complex and telomere biology. We show that Paf1 and Ctr9 maintain low telomere repeat containing RNA (TERRA) levels while Cdc73, Leo1 and Rtf1 have lesser effects. Analysis of double mutants shows that Paf1 and Ctr9 can affect TERRA independently of Sir4, Rat1, and Trf4, previously identified regulators of TERRA. The data suggest that Paf1 and Ctr9 maintain low TERRA levels by affecting both transcription and degradation and that short telomeres in cdc73Δ, paf1Δ and ctr9Δ mutants do not induce TERRA. These data establish the PAF1 complex as a new regulator of TERRA, and are consistent with the model in which Paf1 and Ctr9, the core components of the PAF1 complex, affect transcript levels and cell fitness by numerous mechanisms.
