Abstract
A search for quark compositeness in the form of quark contact interactions, based on hadronic jet pairs (dijets) produced in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV, is described. The data sample of the study corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 pb(-1) collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The dijet centrality ratio, which quantifies the angular distribution of the dijets, is measured as a function of the invariant mass of the dijet system and is found to agree with the predictions of the standard model. A statistical analysis of the data provides a lower limit on the energy scale of quark contact interactions. The sensitivity of the analysis is such that the expected limit is 2.9 TeV; because the observed value of the centrality ratio at high invariant mass is below the expectation, the observed limit is 4.0 TeV at the 95% confidence level.

Abstract
A search for narrow resonances in the dijet mass spectrum is performed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 pb⁻¹ collected by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Upper limits at the 95% confidence level are presented on the product of the resonance cross section, branching fraction into dijets, and acceptance, separately for decays into quark-quark, quark-gluon, or gluon-gluon pairs. The data exclude new particles predicted in the following models at the 95% confidence level: string resonances, with mass less than 2.50 TeV, excited quarks, with mass less than 1.58 TeV, and axigluons, colorons, and E6 diquarks, in specific mass intervals. This extends previously published limits on these models.

Abstract
Bose-Einstein correlations have been measured using samples of proton-proton collisions at 0.9 and 2.36 TeV center-of-mass energies, recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The signal is observed in the form of an enhancement of pairs of same-sign charged particles with small relative four-momentum. The size of the correlated particle emission region is seen to increase significantly with the particle multiplicity of the event.

Abstract
Charged-hadron transverse-momentum and pseudorapidity distributions in proton-proton collisions at square root of s = 7 TeV are measured with the inner tracking system of the CMS detector at the LHC. The charged-hadron yield is obtained by counting the number of reconstructed hits, hit pairs, and fully reconstructed charged-particle tracks. The combination of the three methods gives a charged-particle multiplicity per unit of pseudorapidity dN(ch)/dη|(|η|<0.5) = 5.78 ± 0.01(stat) ± 0.23(syst) for non-single-diffractive events, higher than predicted by commonly used models. The relative increase in charged-particle multiplicity from square root of s = 0.9 to 7 TeV is [66.1 ± 1.0(stat) ± 4.2(syst)]%. The mean transverse momentum is measured to be 0.545 ± 0.005(stat) ± 0.015(syst) GeV/c. The results are compared with similar measurements at lower energies.

Abstract
The Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is ramping up the accelerated proton beam power to 1.4 MW and just reached 1 MW. The rf-driven multicusp ion source that originates from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has been delivering approximately 38 mA H(-) beam in the linac at 60 Hz, 0.9 ms. To improve availability, a rf-driven external antenna multicusp ion source with a water-cooled ceramic aluminum nitride (AlN) plasma chamber is developed. Computer modeling and simulations have been made to analyze and optimize the rf performance of the new ion source. Operational statistics and test runs with up to 56 mA medium energy beam transport beam current identify the 2 MHz rf system as a limiting factor in the system availability and beam production. Plasma ignition system is under development by using a separate 13 MHz system. To improve the availability of the rf power system with easier maintenance, we tested a 70 kV isolation transformer for the 80 kW, 6% duty cycle 2 MHz amplifier to power the ion source from a grounded solid-state amplifier.

Abstract
Electromagnetic modeling of the multicusp external antenna H(-) ion source for the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) has been performed in order to optimize high-power performance. During development of the SNS external antenna ion source, antenna failures due to high voltage and multicusp magnet holder rf heating concerns under stressful operating conditions led to rf characteristics analysis. In rf simulations, the plasma was modeled as an equivalent lossy metal by defining conductivity as sigma. Insulation designs along with material selections such as ferrite and Teflon could be included in the computer simulations to compare antenna gap potentials, surface power dissipations, and input impedance at the operating frequencies, 2 and 13.56 MHz. Further modeling and design improvements are outlined in the conclusion.

Abstract
Background: We aimed to evaluate the clinicopathologic factors affecting locoregional recurrence (LRR) in potentially operable breast cancer patients receiving preoperative systemic chemotherapy (PST).Methods: We reviewed the records of 316 breast cancer patients treated with PST (doxorubicin/cyclophosphamide, 101; docetaxel /capecitabine, 103; paclitaxel/gemcitabine, 43; doxorubicin/docetaxel, 69) followed by surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy between 2002 and 2006. The majority of patients had clinical positive axillary lymph nodes. To define the prognostic factors for LRR, age, clinical stage, hormone receptor (HR) and HER2 status, clinical and pathologic response, type of operation, pathological characteristics including tumor size, tumor grade, nodal status, number of positive axillary nodes, size of metastatic lymph node and status of resection margin and tumor multiplicity before and after PST were analyzed.Results: Overall 52 patients (16.5%) in the primary tumor and 87 patients (27.5%) in the axillary nodes achieved a pathologic complete response (pCR), and 206 patients (65.2%) underwent breast conserving surgery (BCS). With a median follow-up of 52.4 month (range: 4.7 - 89.4), total 18 (5.7%) patients developed LRR; 2 of 110 (1.8%) patients with mastectomy vs. 16 of 206 (7.7%) patients with BCS (p=0.04). Other significant factors in the univariate analysis were clinical T stage, HR status, clinical response and tumor multiplicity. A pCR in the primary tumor or node was not a prognostic factor for LRR in this study. In multivariate analysis, clinical T stage (T3/4, HR 7.8; 95% CI, 2.33-26.24; P=0.001), hormone receptor status (negative, HR 6.2; 95% CI, 1.91-20.22; P=0.002) and type of surgery (BCS, HR 9.5; 95% CI, 1.97-46.37; P=0.005) were independent prognostic factors. Among patients with BCS, advanced clinical T stage (HR 12.4; 95% CI, 3.45-44.56; P<0.001), negative hormone receptor (HR 4.74; 95% CI, 1.33-16.96; P=0.02), non-responding disease (HR 6.54; 95% CI, 1.07-40.12; P=0.04) and multiple tumors (HR 4.36; 95% CI, 1.06-17.90; P=0.04) developed more frequent LRR.Conclusions: Significantly more patients with advanced clinical T stage, negative HR status and BCS developed LRR in operable breast cancer treated with PST. Moreover, in patients with BCS after PST, clinically non-responding disease and multiple tumors showed unfavorable prognosis besides the larger tumors and negative hormone receptor.Partly supported by NCC Grant No 0610240

Abstract
Background: The biologic behavior of metaplastic breast cancer (MBC) has not been well elucidated due to its rarity and heterogeneity. This study was designed to assess the clinical and tumor characteristics and outcomes of MBC patients as compared with invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) in general and the triple-negative (TN) subtype.Materials and methods: This study included 35 MBC and 2,839 IDC patients diagnosed at the National Cancer Center, Korea between 2000 and 2008. We, retrospectively, reviewed the clinicopathologic characteristics and clinical outcomes.Results: The mean age was 47.4 years for MBC group and 48.3 years for IDC group. The MBC group presented with larger tumors (≥ T2, 78.8% vs 41.0%; P<0.001), higher histologic grade (grade 3, 92.0% vs 44.6%; P<0.001), fewer ER and PgR positivity (ER+, 14.3% vs 69.0% ; P<0.001 and PgR+, 25.7% vs 66.1%; P<0.001), higher Ki-67 expression (35.5%±26.2% vs 20.6% ±19.8%; P=0.024) and more TN subtypes (48.6% vs 11.9%; P<0.001) than IDC group. Excluding de novo stage IV patients, 14 of 32 (43.7%) MBC patients and 260 of 2782 (9.4%) IDC patents developed disease recurrence with a median follow-up of 36.2 months (range, 4.9-117.8 months). MBC was a poor prognostic factor for disease recurrence in univariate and multivariate analysis (HR 5.19; 95% CI, 2.04-13.18; P=0.001). MBC patients demonstrated aggressive pathologic features and experienced more disease recurrence (HR 4.77; 95% CI, 1.99-11.44; P=0.001) even when compared with 330 patients with TN subtype.Conclusions:Patients with metaplastic breast carcinoma appeared to have inherent aggressive tumor biology with poorer clinical outcomes than those with IDC in general and TN subtype.Partly supported by NCC Grant No 0610240

Abstract
Purpose; Breast conservation surgery (BCS) and radiotherapy(RT) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NEO) has concerns of high locoregional recurrence (LRR) rates. This analysis was done to know LRR rates and the variables increasing LRRs.Patients and Methods; 242 breast cancer patients treated with BCS and RT after NEO between 2001 and 2006 were included in this study. All patients were clinically node positive by positron emission tomography. Clinical stage at diagnosis (2003 AJCC) was IIA in 22.7%, IIB in 43.0%, IIIA in 33.5% and IIIB in 0.8% of patients. Of the patients, 51.4% received anthracycline-based NEO, 34.2% received a taxane, and 14.4% received anthracycline combined taxane regimen. RT was done to all patients.Results; At a median follow-up of 56 months (range, 14 - 86 months), 24 patients (9.9%) had developed LRR. Among these, 18 (7.4%) were ipsilateral breast tumor recurrences (IBTR), 2(0.8%) axilla, 3 (1.2%) supraclavicular and 5 (2.1%) internal mammary recurrences. Five-year actuarial rates of IBTR-free and LRR-free survival were 86.9% and 84.4%, respectively. Distant metastases were detected in 36 patients (14.9%). On multivariate analyses of LRR, adjuvant hormone therapy, pathological lymph node status and clinical stage were associated with higher rates of LRR. The hazard ratios for lack of hormone therapy, pathological nodal stage N2-3, and clinical stage III were 8.9 (95% CI, 3.5 to 23.1; p<0.0001), 4.3 (95% CI, 1.7 to 11.2; p=0.003) and 2.7 (95% CI, 1.1 to 6.5; p=0.02), respectively. 5-year actuarial LRR-free survival rate was 86.5% in patients with adjuvant hormone therapy while it was 76.8% in patients without adjuvant hormone therapy.Conclusion; BCS with RT after NEO results in acceptably low rates of IBTR and LRR in clinical node positive patients. The adjuvant hormone therapy, pathologic lymph node status and clinical stages predict higher rates of LRR.

Abstract
10542 Background: Multimodal approach had improved outcomes of non-metastatic osteosarcoma. This study was to compare outcomes between doublet (AP; doxorubicin and cisplatin) and triplet (IAP; AP and ifosfamide) neoadjuvant chemotherapy for non-meteastatic osteosarcoma of extremity in a single institute. Methods: A total of 124 osteosarcoma patients were enrolled. In AP group, doublet regimen was given to 77 patients from 1991 to 1999, who received intra-arterial cisplatin(120mg/m2) at day 1 and intravenous doxorubicin (25mg/m2) for 3 days. In IAP group, triplet regimen was given to 49 patients from 2000 to 2007, who received ifosfamide additionally at a dose of 2.5g/m2/day for 3 days. After completion of 3 cycles of chemotherapy, patients underwent limb-salvage surgery. We assessed tumor response according to pathologic tumor necrosis, and treated further adjuvant chemotherapy. In AP group, responder received 3 more cycles of AP, while non-responders received 6 cycles of ifosfamide-contaning regimens. In IAP group, all patients had 3 more cycles of IAP chemotherapy. Results: The median follow-up duration was 5.2 years (0.4–16.7). The most frequent site and histology were distal femur and osteoblastic type. Overall pathologic response was more than 90% tumor necrosis in 74.8% of patients. Total necrosis of tumor was also found in 46 patients (37.4%). There was no difference between two groups in pathologic response (76.3% vs. 72.3%; p=0.62) or other clinico-pathologic parameters. Tumor recurrence was occurred in 31.5% of patients with the most common site of lung (84.6%). There was no difference between two groups in recurrence (p=0.17) or lung metastasis (p=0.53). There were no statistical differences in disease free survival (p=0.75) and overall survival (p=0.07) between two groups. In toxicity profiles, there were more hematologic toxicity in IAP group (febrile neutropenia,p<0.001; thrombocytopenia,p<0.05), while there were no statistical differences in treatment related death. Conclusions: The addition of ifosfamide to doxorubicin and cisplatin in neoadjuvant chemotherapy did not show improved outcomes in this study. Further trials are required to elucidate optimal neoadjuvant chemotherapy and effective salvage regimens. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract
Vertically oriented multilayers composed of two saturated phospholipids, 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) and 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoserine (DPPS), were deposited on silicon. X-ray reflectivity was used to investigate the structures of the variously mixed phospholipid multilayers as a function of composition. Then, the phase stability was investigated at various annealing temperatures under humid conditions. The results indicated that the lipid spacing of the mixed phospholipid multilayers varied systematically as a function of the DPPC/DPPS ratio and that no macroscopic phase separation occurred during the annealing process under both dry and humid conditions.
