Abstract
Conventional composting is a viable method treating agricultural solid waste, and microorganisms and nitrogen transformation are the two major components of this proces. Unfortunately, conventional composting is time-consuming and laborious, and limited efforts have been made to mitigate these problems. Herein, a novel static aerobic composting technology (NSACT) was developed and employed for the composting of cow manure and rice straw mixtures. During the composting process, physicochemical parameters were analyzed to evaluate the quality of compost products, and microbial abundance dynamics were determined using high-throughput sequencing technique. The results showed that NSACT achieved compost maturity within 17 days as the thermophilic stage (≥55 °C) lasted for 11 days. GI, pH, and C/N were 98.71 %, 8.38, and 19.67 in the top layer, 92.32 %, 8.24, and 22.38 in the middle layer, 102.08 %, 8.33, and 19.95 in the bottom layer. These observations indicate compost products maturated and met the requirements of current legislation. Compared with fungi, bacterial communities dominated NSACT composting system. Based on the stepwise verification interaction analysis (SVIA), the novel combination utilization of multiple statistical analyses (Spearman, RDA/CCA, Network modularity, and Path analyses), bacterial genera Norank Anaerolineaceae (-0.9279*), norank Gemmatimonadetes (1.1959*), norank Acidobacteria (0.6137**) and unclassified Proteobacteria (-0.7998*), and fungi genera Myriococcum thermophilum (-0.0445), unclassified Sordariales (-0.0828*), unclassified Lasiosphaeriaceae (-0.4174**), and Coprinopsis calospora (-0.3453*) were the identified key microbial taxa affecting NH4+-N, NO3--N, TKN and C/N transformation in the NSACT composting matrix respectively. This work revealed that NSACT successfully managed cow manure-rice straw wastes and significantly shorten the composting period. Interestingly, most microorganisms observed in this composting matrix acted in a synergistic manner, promoting nitrogen transformation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Immunocheckpoint inhibitor(ICI) is a major breakthrough in tumor treatment. It can activate the patient's own immune system and play an anti-tumor role, but not all patients can benefit from it. At present, there is still a lack of effective biomarkers to guide clinical application. The systemic immune inflammation(SII) index reflects the systemic inflammatory state and immune state of patients. Prognostic nutrition index(PNI) can be used to evaluate immune status of patients. Therefore, SII and PNI indexes may have some value in predicting the efficacy and prognosis of immunotherapy, but there is still a lack of relevant research. The purpose of our study was to explore the influence of SII and PNI index on the efficacy and prognosis of immunotherapy. METHODS A total of 1935 patients treated with ICIs treatment in the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University from November 2016 to October 2021 were retrospectively collected. 435 patients who met the inclusion criteria and did not meet the exclusion criteria. The imaging data, blood results of each patient were collected within 1 week before ICIs treatment. The neutrophil lymphocyte ratio(NLR), platelet lymphocyte ratio(PLR), monocyte lymphocyte ratio(MLR), PNI,systemic inflammatory response index(SIRI),neutrophil-eosinophil ratio(NER) was calculated. The patients were followed up by in-patient, out-patient reexamination and telephone contact, and the efficacy evaluation and survival status were recorded. The deadline of follow-up: January 2021. SPSS-24.0 software was employed for statistical analysis. RESULTS Among the 435 patients receiving ICI treatment, 61,236 and 138 patients were evaluated respectively as partial response (PR), stable disease (SD) and progressive disease (PD). The overall response rate(ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) of this cohort were 14.0% and 68.3%, respectively. Median progression-free survival (mPFS) is 4.0 months, The overall survival (mOS) of this cohort is 6.8 months. Multivariate analysis showed that SIRI(Hazard Ratio, HR = 1.304, P = 0.014), PNI (HR = 0.771, P = 0.019), prealbumin (PAB) (HR = 0.596, P = 0.001), and PNI(HR = 0.657, P = 0.008) were independent risk factors for PFS and OS, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Patients with high SIRI value and low PNI value before ICI treatment have shorter PFS. Patients with higher PNI value have better prognosis. Therefore, hematological indicators may become predictors of immunotherapy.

Abstract
Periodontitis is an oral infectious disease that occurs in the tooth supporting tissues, which damages the soft and hard tissues of the periodontium and eventually results in tooth mobility and loss. Traditional clinical treatment can effectively control the periodontal infection and inflammation. However, as the therapeutic effect depending on the local condition of periodontal defect and the systemic factors of patients, it's hard to achieve satisfactory and stable periodontal tissue regeneration for damaged periodontal tissues. Recently, as a promising therapeutic strategy in periodontal regeneration, mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) play an important role in modern regenerative medicine. Combined with the clinical translational researches of MSC in periodontal tissue engineering and the research results of our group in the past decade, it is summarized and explained the mechanism of MSC promoting periodontal regeneration, the preclinical and the clinical transformation researches as well as the future application prospects of MSC in periodontal regeneration therapy in this paper.

Abstract
This study elucidated the biosynthesis and changing behaviors of organic sulfide in shiitake mushrooms upon hot-air drying treatment. The changes of aw, moisture migration, contours of taste and flavor, organic sulfide, and 4 key enzyme activities were monitored throughout three drying procedures (CT/ST1/ST2). Results showed that drying rate was related to the moisture migration. Key enzymes of γ-GTase, ASFase and CS lyase were heat-resistant proteases, while C-Dase exhibited low thermal stability with the activity decreased during treatment. A total of 17 organic sulfides were identified and PLS analyses suggested 6 cyclic polysulfides were formed by C-Dase desulfurization, while 5 thioethers generation were related to the thermal cleavage of direct precursors (straight-chain di/tris/tetrasulfonyl esters) and Maillard reaction. These results indicated that ST2 drying procedures had a positive effect on the formation of cyclic polysulfides at the end of drying pried and the achievement of premium flavor qualities.

Abstract
A 50-year-old female patient presented to the Beijing Tongren Eye Center, Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing Institute of Ophthalmology, with complaints of right eye pain, tearing, and difficulty opening the eye for over a month after intrastromal corneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation 18 years prior in both eyes. Slit lamp examination revealed corneal stromal melting around the ICRS at the 3 to 4 o'clock position of the right eye, with fluorescein staining. Optical coherence tomography showed epithelial and superficial stromal layer defects in the area of the lesion. The patient was diagnosed with corneal melting after ICRS implantation in the right eye. Under general anesthesia, the corneal stromal ring was removed, and deep lamellar keratoplasty was performed. The patient had no discomfort and the corneal graft remained transparent after the surgery.

Abstract
Some gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have a tera-electron volt (TeV) afterglow, but the early onset of this has not been observed. We report observations with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory of the bright GRB 221009A, which serendipitously occurred within the instrument field of view. More than 64,000 photons >0.2 TeV were detected within the first 3000 seconds. The TeV flux began several minutes after the GRB trigger, then rose to a peak about 10 seconds later. This was followed by a decay phase, which became more rapid ~650 seconds after the peak. We interpret the emission using a model of a relativistic jet with half-opening angle ~0.8°. This is consistent with the core of a structured jet and could explain the high isotropic energy of this GRB.

Abstract
Clonostachys (Bionectriaceae, Hypocreales) species are common soil-borne fungi, endophytes, epiphytes, and saprotrophs. Sexual morphs of Clonostachys spp. were placed in the genus Bionectria, which was further segregated into the six subgenera Astromata, Bionectria, Epiphloea, Myronectria, Uniparietina, and Zebrinella. However, with the end of dual nomenclature, Clonostachys became the single depository for sexual and asexual morph-typified species. Species of Clonostachys are typically characterised by penicillate, sporodochial, and, in many cases, dimorphic conidiophores (primary and secondary conidiophores). Primary conidiophores are mononematous, either verticillium-like or narrowly penicillate. The secondary conidiophores generally form imbricate conidial chains that can collapse to slimy masses, particularly on sporodochia. In the present study, we investigated the species diversity within a collection of 420 strains of Clonostachys from the culture collection of, and personal collections at, the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Strains were analysed based on their morphological characters and molecular phylogeny. The latter used DNA sequence data of the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer regions and intervening 5.8S nrDNA (ITS) and partial 28S large subunit (LSU) nrDNA and partial protein encoding genes including the RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (RPB2), translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF1) and β-tubulin (TUB2). Based on these results, the subgenera Astromata, Bionectria, Myronectria and Zebrinella are supported within Clonostachys. Furthermore, the genus Sesquicillium is resurrected to accommodate the former subgenera Epiphloea and Uniparietina. The close relationship of Clonostachys and Sesquicillium is strongly supported as both are inferred phylogenetically as sister-genera. New taxa include 24 new species and 10 new combinations. Recognition of Sesquicillium distinguishes species typically forming a reduced perithecial stroma superficially on plant tissue from species in Clonostachys often forming well-developed, through bark erumpent stromata. The patterns of observed perithecial wall anatomies, perithecial wall and stroma interfaces, and asexual morph diversifications described in a previously compiled monograph are used for interpreting ancestral state reconstructions. It is inferred that the common ancestor of Clonostachys and Sesquicillium may have formed perithecia superficially on leaves, possessed a perithecial wall consisting of a single region, and formed intercalary phialides in penicilli of conidiophores. Character interpretation may also allow hypothesising that diversification of morphs occurred then in the two genera independently and that the frequently stroma-linked Clonostachys morphs evolved together with the occupation of woody host niches and mycoparasitism. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Diet is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD), while the evidence about the relationship between dietary pattern (DP) and CVD in children is scarce. This study aims to explore the association between DP and CVD risk in children. STUDY DESIGN This was a cross-sectional and longitudinal study. METHODS This research was conducted among 4351 children aged 6-12 years old in 2014, then the subgroup children in 2014 were followed up in 2019. Dietary intakes were assessed using a food frequency questionnaire. DP was clustered based on 15 food items, and finally, four main DPs were obtained. RESULTS Four major DPs were identified: (1) low intake of nuts and algae pattern, (2) low-energy intake pattern, (3) high-energy intake pattern, and (4) regular DP. Compared with the regular diet pattern, the low intake of nuts and algae pattern was associated with the increased risk of higher systolic blood pressure (107.71 mm Hg vs 105.78 mm Hg, P < 0.001), diastolic blood pressure (64.98 mm Hg vs 63.91 mm Hg, P = 0.0056), hypertension (odds ratio [OR]:1.44, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.10, 1.88; P = 0.0036), dyslipidemia (OR: 2.41, 95% CI: 1.28, 4.52; P = 0.0194), and obesity (OR: 1.48, 95% CI: 1.16, 1.89; P = 0.0003) in children from a cross-sectional aspect in 2014 and it was also found associated with an increased risk of hypertension (OR: 2.67, 95% CI: 1.45, 4.92; P = 0.0017) in 2019. CONCLUSIONS Low nuts and algae intake combinations in children seemed associated with increased CVD risk. Such findings are imperative for national development of dietary recommendation for the prevention of CVDs.

Abstract
Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangements have been reported in 3-7% of non-small-cell lung cancers (NSCLC). ALK has been reported to be fused with a variety of genes in NSCLC. Significant clinical activity was achieved by ALK inhibitors in patients with NSCLC harbouring ALK translocations. We reported on a 48-year-old male Chinese patient with advanced lung adenocarcinoma harboring a novel ALK-LIMS1 who showed no response to crizotinib. The tissue was assayed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) for ALK and showed diffuse expression of ALK. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) was performed on the peripheral blood and tissue. The previous tumor tissue showed diffuse expression of ALK. Tissue and the later peripheral blood revealed a ALK- LIMS1 fusion. The patient failed to benefit from crizotinib (250 mg, twice a day), with a progression-free survival of two months. We identified a new ALK-LIMS1 fusion from an advanced lung adenocarcinoma which was primary resistant to crizotinib. Our case suggested that the coexistence of mutations and the non-dominant clone, as well as the rearrangement of ALK fusion, did not result in expressed ALK kinase domain that might lead to no response to ALK-TKIs.

Abstract
Microparticles composed of bicontinuous and ordered macropores are important in many applications. However, rational integration of ordered macropores into a single crystalline microparticle remains a challenge. Here, we report a method to prepare three-dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) Ag7O8NO3 micropyramids via selectively cementing the colloidal crystal templates via an electrochemical method and their shape-preserving transformation into 3DOM Ag micropryamids formed by Ag nanoparticles via a chemical reduction process. The interconnected macropores facilitated the transportation and enrichment of the analyte molecules into the 3DOM Ag micropyramids. The dense Ag nanoparticles on the skeletons of the 3DOM Ag micropyramids provided strong electromagnetic fields. Taken together, a 3DOM Ag micropyramid as a kind of single-particle surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing substrate demonstrated high SERS sensitivity and outstanding SERS signal reproducibility. We explored the application of 3DOM Ag micropyramids in SERS detection of biomolecules (e.g., adenosine, adenine, hemoglobin bovine, and lysozyme) and proved their potentials in distinguishing exosomes from tumor and non-tumor cells. The method can be extended to prepared 3DOM structures of other materials with promising applications in sensing, separation, and catalytic fields.

Abstract
Zn-ion batteries with low cost and high safety have been regarded as a promising energy storage technology for grid storage. It is well-known that the metal anode surface orientation is vital to its reversibility. Herein, we demonstrate a facile route to control the Zn metal anode surface orientation through electrodeposition with electrolyte additives. An ultrathin (101)-inclined Zn metal anode (down to 2 μm) is obtained by adding a small amount of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in the ZnSO4 aqueous electrolyte. Scanning electron microscopy indicates the formation of flat terrace-like surfaces, while in situ optical observations demonstrate the reversible plating and stripping. DFT calculations reveal that the large reconstruction of the Zn-(101) surface with DMSO and H2O adsorption to lower the interface energy is the main driving force for surface preference. Raman, XPS, and ToF-SIMS characterizations are performed to unveil the surface SEI components. Exceptional electrochemical performance is demonstrated for the (101)-inclined Zn metal anode in a half cell, which could cycle for 200 h with a low overpotential (<50 mV). The Zn||V2O full cells are assembled, showing much better cycle performance for the 5 μm (101)-inclined Zn metal anode as compared to the commercialized 10 μm Zn metal foil, with a maximum specific capacity of 359 mAh/g and >170 mAh/g after over 300 cycles. We hope this study will spur further interest in the control of surface crystallographic orientation for a stable ultrathin Zn metal anode.

Abstract
The brain's response to acute injury is characterized by increased permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and pro-inflammatory microglia signaling, both of which have been linked to poor cognitive outcomes and neurological disease. The damaged BBB has increased leakiness, allowing serum proteins like fibrinogen into the brain, which interacts with local cells in a deleterious manner. At the same time, in response to injury, microglia demonstrate increased NLRP3 inflammasome activity and heightened release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The relationship between increased fibrinogen uptake and microglial inflammasome signaling in the injured brain has not been well described. In this work, we investigate fibrinogen mediated NLRP3 inflammasome priming of BV-2 cells and primary adult microglia and propose a role for extracellular vesicles (EVs) as propagators of this interaction. Following exposure to fibrinogen microglia significantly upregulate transcription of IL-1β, IL-6, NLRP3 and other pro-inflammatory cytokines which was sustained by repeated fibrinogen exposure. Inhibition of fibrinogen mediated NLRP3 signaling was achieved at the transcriptional and assembly level using cannabidiol (CBD) and the NLRP3 inhibitor MCC950, respectively. EVs released following NLRP3 priming carry IL-1β, IL-18 mRNA and fibrinogen, propagate inflammatory signaling and can be detected in the circulation following BBB disruption in a preclinical stroke model. In conclusion, the interplay between fibrinogen extravasation, microglial NLRP3 signaling, and EV release can perpetuate chronic pro-inflammatory signaling and represents a novel method of inflammatory propagation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Auricularia auricula (A. auricula) is one of the most abundant sources of plant protein in edible fungi. Problems of low protein yield exist in traditional methods of protein extraction such as alkali extraction and ultrasonic-assisted alkali after pretreatment with enzymes. Thus, the protein extraction process was investigated and optimized using a definitive screening design from A. auricula to improve the protein yield under practical operating conditions of temperature, the concentration of NaCl, meal/water ratio, extraction time and pH. RESULTS The yield of protein isolates of the isoelectric-ammonium sulfate precipitation (9.34% w/w) was obtained almost three times and the protein content (55.23% w/w) was approximately 1.6 times that of the traditional extraction method of isoelectric precipitation. Next, the optimized method was successfully applied to the analysis of the functional properties of the protein. A. auricula protein isolate (AAPI) had better solubility, emulsification and foaming capacity than soy protein isolate (SPI) and pea protein isolate (PPI), and the oil holding capacity of AAPI exhibited extremely well, which was approximately five times that of SPI and six times that of PPI. The texture properties of AAPI gel were similar to those of PPI gels. CONCLUSION AAPI extracted by the optimized method had a satisfactory yield and had the potential to substitute plant-originated proteins in food processing. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Chronic microglia activation post-stroke is associated with worse neurological and cognitive outcomes. However, measurement of microglia activation in vivo is currently limited. Plasma derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) are cell-specific indicators that may allow for non-invasive measurement of microglia phenotype. The aim of this study was to identify activation-state specific microglia EVs (MEVs) in vitro followed by validation in an experimental stroke model. Following pro-inflammatory activation, MEVs contain the microglia protein TMEM119 alongside increased expression of the Toll-like receptor 4 co-receptor CD14. Immunoprecipitation followed by fluorescent nanoparticle tracking analysis (ONI Nanoimager) was used to confirm the isolation of TMEM119+/CD14+ EVs from rat plasma. Electron microscopy confirmed that TMEM119 and CD14 localize to the MEV membrane. To model ischemia, plasma was collected from 3-month wildtype Fischer344 rats prior to, 7 and 28 days after endothelin-1 or saline injection into the dorsal right striatum. Fluorescently labelled MEVs were directly measured in the plasma using nanoflow cytometry (Apogee A60 Microplus). We report a significant increase in circulating TMEM119+/CD14+ EVs 28-days post-stroke in comparison to baseline levels and saline-injected rats, which correlated weakly with stroke volume. TMEM119+/MHC-II+ EVs were also increased post-stroke in comparison to baseline and saline-injected animals. This study is the first to describe an EV biomarker of activated microglia detected directly in plasma following stroke and represents a future tool for the measurement of microglia activity in vivo.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the basic characteristics of previously reported patients with hepatitis C and analyze the related factors affecting their antiviral treatment. Methods: A convenient sampling method was adopted. Patients who had been previously diagnosed with hepatitis C in the Wenshan Prefecture of Yunnan Province and Xuzhou City of Jiangsu Province were contacted by telephone for an interview study. The Andersen health service utilization behavior model and related literature were used to design the research framework for antiviral treatment in previously reported hepatitis C patients. A step-by-step multivariate regression analysis was used in previously reported hepatitis C patients treated with antiviral therapy. Results: A total of 483 hepatitis C patients, aged 51.73 ± 12.06 years, were investigated. The proportion of male, agricultural occupants who were registered permanent residents, farmers and migrant workers was 65.24%, 67.49%, and 58.18%, respectively. Han ethnicity (70.81%), married (77.02%), and junior high school and below educational level (82.61%) were the main ones. Multivariate logistic regression analysis results showed that married patients with hepatitis C (OR = 3.19, 95% CI: 1.93-5.25, compared with unmarried, divorced, and widowed patients) with high school education or above (OR = 2.54, 95% CI: 1.54-4.20, compared with patients with junior high school education or below) were more likely to receive antiviral treatment in the predisposition module. Patients with severe self-perceived hepatitis C in the need factor module (compared with patients with mild self-perceived disease, OR = 3.36, 95% CI: 2.09-5.40) were more likely to receive treatment. In the competency module, the family's per capita monthly income was more than 1,000 yuan (compared with patients with per capita monthly income below 1,000 yuan, OR = 1.59, 95% CI: 1.02-2.47), and the patients had a high level of awareness of hepatitis C knowledge (compared with patients with a low level of knowledge, OR = 1.54, 95% CI: 1.01-2.35), and the family members who knew the patient's infection status (compared with patients with an unknown infection status, OR = 4.59, 95% CI: 2.24-9.39) were more likely to receive antiviral treatment. Conclusion: Different income, educational, and marital statuses are related to antiviral treatment behavior in hepatitis C patients. Family support of hepatitis C patients receiving hepatitis C-related knowledge and their families knowing the infection status is more important in promoting the antiviral treatment of patients, suggesting that in the future, we should further strengthen the hepatitis C knowledge of hepatitis C patients, especially the family support of hepatitis C patients' families in treatment.

Abstract
Methods Transcriptome data and clinical data of HCC were downloaded from the TCGA database. Screen important genes based on the random forest method, combined with differential expression genes (DEGs) to screen out important DEGs. The Kaplan‒Meier curve was used to evaluate its prognostic significance. Cox regression analysis was used to construct a survival prognosis prediction model, and the ROC curve was used to verify it. Finally, the mechanism of action was explored through GO and KEGG pathway enrichment and GeneMANIA coexpression analyses. Results Seven important DEGs were identified, three were highly expressed and four were lowly expressed. Among them, GPRIN1, MYBL2, and GSTM5 were closely related to prognosis (P < 0.05). After the survival prognosis prediction model was established, the survival analysis showed that the survival time of the high-risk group was significantly shortened (P < 0.001), but the ROC analysis indicated that the model was not superior to staging. Twenty coexpressed genes were screened, and enrichment analysis indicated that glutathione metabolism was an important mechanism for these genes to regulate HCC progression. Conclusion This study revealed the important DEGs affecting HCC progression and provided references for clinical assessment of patient prognosis and exploration of HCC progression mechanisms through the construction of predictive models and gene enrichment analysis.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of transbronchial cryobiopsy (TBCB) after lung transplantation. Methods: The clinical characteristics, TBCB procedure, diagnosis and treatment, and outcomes of lung transplant recipients of 6 patients (all male, aged 33-67 years) with TBCB in China-Japan Friendship Hospital from May to November 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: Among the 6 patients diagnosed by TBCB, there were 2 cases of organizing pneumonia, 1 acute cellular rejection, 1 antibody-mediated rejection, and 1 bronchiolitis obliterans, and 1 diffuse alveolar damage. After the clinical diagnosis was confirmed, the condition improved after adjustment of the treatments followed. There were no serious complications related to the TBCB procedure. Conclusion: TBCB is valuable and relatively safe in the diagnosis of complications after lung transplantation, but the indications need to be strictly controlled.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological features, immunophenotypes and molecular genetics of EWSR1-SMAD3 positive fibroblastic tumor (ESFT) with an emphasis on differential diagnosis. Methods: The clinicopathological data, immunohistochemical profiles and molecular profiles of 3 ESFT cases diagnosed at the Department of Pathology, Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center from 2018 to 2021were analyzed. The related literature was also reviewed. Results: There were two males and one female. The patients were 24, 12 and 36 years old, respectively. All three tumors occurred in the subcutis of the foot with the disease duration of 6 months to 2 years. The tumors were presented with a slowly growing mass or nodule, accompanied with pain in 1 patient. The tumors ranged in size from 0.1 to 1.6 cm (mean, 1.0 cm). Microscopically, the tumors were located in the subcutaneous tissue with a nodular or plexiform growth pattern. They were composed of cellular fascicles of bland spindle cells with elongated nuclei and fine chromatin. One of the tumors infiltrated into adjacent adipose tissue. There was no nuclear atypia or mitotic activities. All three tumors showed prominent stromal hyalinization with zonal pattern present in one case. Focal punctate calcification was noted in two cases. The immunohistochemical studies showed that tumor cells were diffusely positive for ERG and negative for CD31 and CD34, with Ki-67 index less than 2%. Fluorescence in situ hybridization on the two tested cases identified EWSR1 gene rearrangement. The next generation sequencing analysis demonstrated EWSR1-SMAD3 fusion in all three cases. During the follow up, one patient developed local recurrence 24 months after the surgery. Conclusions: ESFT is a benign fibroblastic neoplasm and has a predilection for the foot, characterized by ERG immunoreactivity and EWSR1-SMAD3 fusion. Local recurrence might occur when incompletely excised. Familiarity with its clinicopathological features is helpful in distinguishing it from other spindle cell neoplasms that tend to occur at acral sites.
