Abstract
Using 449x10(6) BB[over ] pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider, we observe clear signals for B(+)-->K[over ](0)K(+) and B(0)-->K[over ](0)K(0) decays with 5.3sigma and 6.0sigma significance, respectively. We measure the branching fractions B(B(+)-->K[over ](0)K(+))=(1.22(-0.28-0.16)(+0.32+0.13))x10(-6) and B(B(0)-->K[over ](0)K(0))=(0.87(-0.20)(+0.25)+/-0.09)x10(-6), and partial-rate asymmetries A(CP)(B(+)-->K[over ](0)K(+))=0.13(-0.24)(+0.23)+/-0.02 and A(CP)(B(0)-->K[over ](0)K(0))=-0.58(-0.66)(+0.73)+/-0.04. From a simultaneous fit, we also obtain B(B(+)-->K(0)pi(+))=(22.8(-0.7)(+0.8)+/-1.3)x10(-6) and A(CP)(B(+)-->K(0)pi(+))=0.03+/-0.03+/-0.01. The first and second error in the branching fractions and the partial-rate asymmetries are statistical and systematic, respectively. No signal is observed for B(0)-->K(+)K(-) decays, and for this branching fraction, we set an upper limit of 4.1x10(-7) at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract
We report results of a search for the invisible decay of the Upsilon(1S) via the Upsilon(3S)-->pi+ pi- Upsilon(1S) transition using a data sample of 2.9 fb-1 at the Upsilon(3S) resonance. The data were collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. No signal is found, and an upper limit for the branching fraction at the 90% confidence level is determined to be B(Upsilon(1S)-->invisible)<2.5 x 10(-3).

Abstract
We report the first observation of B(0)-->J/psieta decay. These results are obtained from a data sample that contains 449 x10(6) BB[over] pairs accumulated at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We observe a signal with a significance of 8.1 sigma and obtain a branching fraction of (9.5+/-1.7(stat)+/-0.8(syst)) x 10(-6).

Abstract
We report the first observation of a charmoniumlike state recoiling from the J/psi in the inclusive process e+e- -->J/psi+anything at a mass of (3.943+/-0.006+/-0.006) GeV/c{2}. We also observe the decay of this state into D*D[over ] and determine its intrinsic width to be less than 52 MeV/c{2} at the 90% C.L. These results are obtained from a 357 fb{-1} data sample collected with the Belle detector near the Upsilon(4S) resonance, at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.

Abstract
The structural integrity of fibrillar type I collagen is critical for effective dentin bonding. Since most noncollagenous matrix components in dentin are closely associated with collagen, we hypothesized that they may also contribute to dentin bonding. To test this hypothesis, bovine dentin was acid-etched, treated with chondroitinase ABC (C-ABC), endo-beta-galactosidase (Endo-beta), or trypsin. Controls were prepared in the same manner but without the enzymes. All control and experimental specimens were then bonded with One-Step. Bond strength data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Fisher's PLSD test (p < 0.05). When dentin was treated with C-ABC or trypsin, bond strengths significantly decreased for the rewetted groups (p < 0.05). The treatment with Endo-beta showed no effects on bond strengths (p > 0.05). When the treated dentin surfaces were observed under SEM, the C-ABC and trypsin treated groups revealed significant loss of collagen fibril architecture. The results indicate that chondroitin sulfate glycosaminoglycans and trypsin-digestible noncollagenous proteins play roles in maintaining the open dimensions of the collagen fibril scaffold, which is essential for optimal dentin bonding.

Abstract
The inclusive production of D(s), D(0), and J/psi mesons is studied using a 1.86 fb(-1) data sample collected on the Upsilon(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The number of bb events in this Upsilon(5S) data sample is determined. We measure the branching fractions B(Upsilon(5S)-->D(s)X)/2=(23.6+/-1.2+/-3.6)%, B(Upsilon(5S)-->D(0)X)/2=(53.8+/-2.0+/-3.4)%, and B(Upsilon(5S)-->J/psiX)/2=(1.030+/-0.080+/-0.067)%. From the D(s) and D(0) inclusive branching fractions the ratio f(s)=(18.0+/-1.3+/-3.2)% of B(s)(*)B(s)(*) to the total bb quark pair production at the Upsilon(5S) energy is obtained in a model-dependent way.

Abstract
We present improved measurements of CP-violation parameters in B(0) --> phiK(0), eta(')K(0), KS(0)KS(0)KS(0) decays based on a sample of 535 x 10(6) BB pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider. We obtain sin2phi1(eff)=+0.64+/-0.10(stat)+/-0.04(syst) for B(0) --> eta(')K(0), +0.50+/-0.21(stat)+/-0.06(syst) for B(0) --> phiK(0), and +0.30+/-0.32(stat)+/-0.08(syst) for B(0) --> KS(0)KS(0)KS(0) decays. We have observed CP violation in the B(0) --> eta(')K(0) decay with a significance of 5.6 standard deviations. We also perform an improved measurement of CP asymmetries in B(0) --> J/psiK(0) decays and obtain sin2phi1=+0.642+/-0.031(stat)+/-0.017(syst).

Abstract
We present the first evidence of the decay B- --> tau- nu(tau), using 414 fb(-1) of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. Events are tagged by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in hadronic modes. We detect the signal with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations including systematics and measure the branching fraction to be B(B- --> tau- nu(tau)) = (1.79(-0.49) +0.56(stat)(-0.51) +0.46(syst)) x 10(-4). This implies that fB = 0.229(-0.031) +0.036(stat)(-0.037) +0.034(syst) GeV and is the first direct measurement of this quantity.

Abstract
Using a sample of 152 x 10(6) BB pairs accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider, we study the decay mechanism of three-body charmed decay B- --> Lambdac+ ppi-. The intermediate two-body decay B--->Sigmac (2455)0 p is observed for the first time with a branching fraction of (3.7 +/- 0.7 +/- 0.4 +/- 1.0) x 10(-5) and a statistical significance of 8.4sigma. We also observe a low-mass enhancement in the (Lambdac+p) system, which can be parametrized as a Breit-Wigner function with a mass of (3.35(-0.02)(+0.01) +/-0.02) GeV/c2 and a width of (0.07(-0.03)(+0.04) +/-0.04) GeV/c2. We measure its branching fraction to be (3.9(-0.7)(+0.8) +/- 0.4 +/- 1.0) x 10(-5) with a statistical significance of 6.2sigma. The errors are statistical, systematic, and that of the Lambdac+-->pK- pi+ decay branching fraction.

Abstract
We report the first measurements of the doubly charmed baryonic B decays B --> Lambda c+ Lambda c- K. The B+ --> Lambda c+ Lambda c- K+ decay is observed with a branching fraction of (6.5(-0.9)(+1.0)+/-1.1+/-3.4)x10(-4) and a statistical significance of 15.4sigma. The B0 --> Lambda c+ Lambda c- K0 decay is observed with a branching fraction of (7.9(-2.3)(+2.9)+/-1.2+/-4.1)x10(-4) and a statistical significance of 6.6sigma. The branching fraction errors are statistical, systematic, and the error resulting from the uncertainty of the Lambda c+ --> pK- pi+ decay branching fraction. The analysis is based on 357 fb(-1) of data accumulated at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider.

Abstract
We report the first observation of two charmed strange baryons that decay into Lambda(c)(+)Kappa(-)pi(+). The broader of the two states is measured to have a mass of 2978.5+/-2.1+/-2.0 MeV/c2 and a width of 43.5+/-7.5+/-7.0 MeV/c2. The mass and width of the narrow state are measured to be 3076.7+/-0.9+/-0.5 MeV/c;{2} and 6.2+/-1.2+/-0.8 MeV/c2, respectively. We also perform a search for the isospin partner states that decay into Lambda(c)(+)Kappa(0)/(s)pi(-) and observe a significant signal at the mass of 3082.8+/-1.8+/-1.5 MeV/c2. The data used for this analysis were accumulated at or near the Upsilon(4S) resonance, using the Belle detector at the e+ e- asymmetric-energy collider KEKB. The integrated luminosity of the data sample used is 461.5 fb(-1).

Abstract
We report the first observation of a near-threshold enhancement in the D(0)D[over](0)pi(0) system from B-->D(0)D[over](0)pi(0)Kappa decays using a 414 fb(-1) data sample collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance. The enhancement peaks at a mass M=3875.2+/-0.7(+0.3)/(-1.6) +/-0.8 MeV/c2 and the branching fraction for events in the peak is B(B-->D(0)D[over](0)pi(0)Kappa)=(1.22+/-0.31(+0.23)/(-0.30))x10(-4). The data were collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+ e- collider.

Abstract
We present a measurement of the angle phi1 of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle using a time-dependent Dalitz analysis of D-->KS(0)pi + pi- decays produced in neutral B meson decay to a neutral D meson and a light meson (B0-->D*h0). The method allows a direct extraction of 2phi1 and, therefore, helps to resolve the ambiguity between 2phi1 and pi-2phi1 in the measurement of sin2phi1. We obtain sin2phi1= 0.78 +/- 0.44 +/- 0.22 and cos2varphi1 = 1.87(-0.53-0.32)(+0.40 + 0.22). The sign of cos2phi1 is determined to be positive at 98.3% C.L.

Abstract
We report evidence for the exclusive two-body charmless hadronic B meson decay B-->eta'pi, and improved measurements of B-->eta'K. The results are obtained from a data sample of 386x10(6) BB pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We measure B(B+-->eta'pi+)=[1.76(-0.62)(+0.67)(stat)(-0.14)(+0.15)(syst)]x10(-6) and B(B0-->eta'pi0)=[2.79(-0.96)(+1.02)(stat)(-0.34)(+0.25)(syst)]x10(-6). We also find the ratio of B(B+-->eta'K+)/B(B0-->eta'K0)=1.17+/-0.08(stat)+/-0.03(syst) and measure the direct CP asymmetries for the charged modes.

Abstract
Using a 282 fb-1 data sample collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB e+e- collider, we study D0 decays to K-l+nu and pi-l+nu final states. The D0 flavor and momentum are tagged through a full reconstruction of the recoiling charm meson and additional mesons from fragmentation. The reconstruction method provides very good resolution in neutrino momentum and in q2=(pl+pnu)2. Normalizing to the total number of D0 tags, we measure the absolute branching fractions to be B(D0-->Klnu)=(3.45+/-0.07stat+/-0.20syst)% and B(D0-->pilnu)=(0.255+/-0.019stat+/-0.016syst)% and the semileptonic form factors (within the modified pole model) f+K(0)=0.695+/-0.007stat+/-0.022syst and f+pi(0)=0.624+/-0.020stat+/-0.030syst.

Abstract
We analyzed the protective effect of 17beta-estradiol (17beta-ED) injection against delayed neuronal death in the hippocampus tissue of the brain in Mongolian gerbils after transient ischemia/recirculation treatment, especially in relation with bcl-2 gene expression and enzymatic activity changes of caspase-3 and tissue transglutaminase (tTGase). Daily intraperitoneal injection of 17beta-ED to the animal after the ischemia stimulated the expression of an apoptosis suppressor gene, bcl-2, in the hippocampal tissue for a week. The gradually increasing apoptotic enzyme activity of caspase-3 and increased number of TUNEL positive fragmented neuronal nuclei caused by ischemic attack in the gerbil brain were clearly suppressed by 17beta-ED administration. The reduced activity and enzyme protein of tTGase, a neurodegenerative marker of apoptosis in the hippocampus after ischemia, were also restored to nearly normal levels by 17beta-ED injection. These results suggest that daily 17beta-ED administration to the gerbil after transient ischemic insult with progressing neuronal deteriorative changes in hippocampus tissue can effectively prevent apoptotic changes through a molecular cascade involving gene expression regulation.

Abstract
Bone sialoprotein (BSP) is a phosphorylated glycoprotein that is expressed almost exclusively in mineralizing connective tissues. In bone, expression of BSP correlates with the differentiation of osteoblasts and the onset of mineralization. To determine how the tissue- and differentiation-specific transcription of BSP is regulated, various lengths of promoter sequence were ligated to a luciferase reporter and stably transfected into a rat stromal bone marrow cell line, RBMC-D8 and undifferentiated C3H10T1/2 cells. Luciferase transcription of reporter constructs including 5.4 kb (mBSP5.4Luc) and 9.0 kb (mBSP9.0Luc) of the BSP promoter was strongly up-regulated in parallel with endogenous BSP mRNA in differentiating SBMCs, but not in C3H10T1/2 cells. In contrast, 0.1 kb and 1.4 kb BSP promoter constructs did not show selective expression. To determine tissue-specific expression in vivo, transgenic mice expressing reporter constructs for the 9.0 kb promoter and a 4.8 kb promoter lacking two upstream Cbfa1/Runx2 elements (mBSP9.0Luc and mBSP4.8Luc, respectively) were generated. Analysis of various tissues collected from 1-, 4-, 7-, 14-, and 42-day-old mice revealed extremely high levels of luciferase activity in calvaria, mandible, and tibia of the mBSP9.0Luc mice. In contrast, soft tissues showed negligible luciferase expression. Mice harboring the 4.8 kb transgene also showed selective luciferase expression but displayed a significantly lower activity in mineralized tissues. Northern hybridization of endogenous BSP mRNA and immunostaining of BSP in mBSP9.0Luc mice showed a temporo-spatial expression pattern consistent with the luciferase activity. These results indicate that regulatory elements within the 9.0 kb region of the promoter are required for strong, tissue- and differentiation-specific expression of BSP.

Abstract
We report results on a Dalitz analysis of three-body charmless B+/- --> K+/-pi+/-pi+/- decay including searches for direct CP violation. We report the first observation of the decay B+/- --> f2(1270)K+/- with a statistical significance above 6sigma. We also observe first evidence for large direct CP violation in the B+/- --> rho(770)0K+/- channel. The results are obtained with a data sample that contains 386 10(6) BB pairs collected at the Y(4s) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.

We find evidence for the forward-backward asymmetry with a significance of 3.4sigma. Abstract
14090 Background: The free abdominal cancer cells in the patients with gastric cancer probably result in peritoneal dissemination. In Japan, the detection of free abdominal cancer cells at Douglas cavity is usually examined immediately after lapalotomy for advanced gastric cancer, because this procedure is recommended in Japanese Classification of Gastric Carcinoma 1999 provided by Japanese Gastric Cancer Association. The patients detected free abdominal cancer cells are diagnosed as stage IV, even if they undergo the surgical curative operation. However some of them have relatively long survival. We investigated that the amount of free abdominal cancer cells or histological type might affect their prognosis. Methods: Surgeon collected 50ml of saline with which Douglas cavity was irrigated. Pathologist stained cells by Papanicolaou follwed by differential centrifugation (2000G for 5 minutes) of saline. Among all 492 patients who underwent surgery for gastric cancer in our institute between 2000 and 2004, 46 patients underwent the curative surgery except free abdominal cancer cells. We investigated the amount of free abdominal cancer cells and histological type as the factors to affect prognosis of these 46 patients. The log-rank test was used to evaluate the survival curves calculated by Kaplan-Maier method. Results: 5 or less and more than 5 cancer cells per 1 cm2 were microscopically detected in 22 (Group A) and 24 patients (Group B), respectively. The median survival time (MST) of Group A and B were 877 and 384 days, respectively (P=0.16). The two-year survival rates of Group A and B are 63.7% and 27.2%, respectively. The cancer cells diagnosed histologically as differentiated and undifferentiated type were detected in 13 (Group X) and 33 patients (Group Y), respectively. The MSTs of Group X and Y were 877 and 383 days, respectively (P=0.13). The two-year survival rates of Group X and Y are 82.1% and 28.9%, respectively. Conclusions: In patients who have advanced gastric cancer with free abdominal cancer cells, a larger number or undifferentiated type of cancer cells may reduce the survival periods of patients with curative resection. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract
The Collins effect connects transverse quark spin with a measurable azimuthal dependence in the yield of hadronic fragments around the quark's momentum vector. Using two different reconstruction methods, we find evidence of statistically significant azimuthal asymmetries for charged pion pairs in e(+)e(-) annihilation at a center-of-mass energy of 10.52 GeV, which can be attributed to a transverse polarization of the primordial quarks. The measurement was performed using a sample of 79 x 10(6) hadronic events collected with the Belle detector.

Abstract
We report the observation of the flavor-changing neutral current process b-->dgamma using a sample of 386 x 106 B meson pairs accumulated by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. We measure branching fractions for the exclusive modes B--->rho-gamma, B0rho0gamma, and B0omegagamma. Assuming that these three modes are related by isospin, we find B(B-->(rho,gamma)gamma)=[Formula: See Text] with a significance of 5.1sigma. This result is used to determine the ratio of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements /Vtd/Vts/ to be [Formula: See Text].

Abstract
Patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) have reduced bone mineral density (BMD). Although pHPT causes high bone turnover, the exact metabolic bone markers useful for predicting changes in BMD after parathyroidectomy (PTX) remain elusive. The present study was performed to examine the relationship between bone metabolic indices and BMD changes after PTX in 29 pHPT Japanese patients, which received PTX successfully. BMD values were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry in the lumbar spine and distal one third of radius. As for bone metabolic indices, serum bone-type alkaline phosphates (BAP), serum osteocalcin (OCN), urinary deoxypiridinoline (Dpd), and urinary type I collagen cross-linked N-telopeptides (NTX) were measured. The study included 10 male and 19 female patients (17 postmenopausal). Urinary Dpd, but not NTX was significantly correlated with serum BAP and OCN. Either bone formation or bone resorption indices were significantly and highly correlated with Z-score of BMD in the radius, but not at lumbar spine. Urinary Dpd was significantly correlated with BMD changes at both lumbar spine and radius and at all time points over the two years after PTX. These correlations were most potent among bone metabolic indices in this study. The measurement of urinary Dpd would be useful for predicting long-term changes in BMD at radial and lumbar spine after PTX than other bone metabolic indices.
