Abstract
BACKGROUND Kidneys showing acute rejection (AR) processes often are accompanied by various levels of peritubular capillaritis (Ptc), especially cases of acute humoral rejection (AHR). However, it is not known whether the presence of Ptc alone is sufficient evidence of allograft rejection. This study was performed to determine the diagnostic value of Ptc as a marker for AR among cases of early renal allograft dysfunction. METHODS Fifty-three AR showed C4d deposition in the peritubular capillaries (PTCs; C4d+AR group), 50 AR were without C4d deposition (C4d-AR group), 30 had Ptc alone (Ptc group), 28 had acute tubular necrosis (ATN group), and 78 were surveillance biopsies (control group). RESULTS Analyzing the immunophenotype of infiltrating T lymphocytes and serum antibodies, discovered that 85.9% of control biopsies presented with a regulatory phenotype. Among the Ptc cohort, 93.3% of biopsies showed the cytotoxic phenotype with no significant different between C4d+AR and C4d-AR (96.2% vs 92.0%). We also observed the prevalence of panel-reactive antibody (PRA) and major-histocompatibility-complex class I chain-related gene A (MICA) antibodies to be increased among Ptc (30.0% and 43.3%, respectively), albeit not significantly different from C4d+AR (49.1% and 39.6%, respectively). The prevalences were low in other groups. CONCLUSIONS These results implied that Ptc in biopsy specimens from patients with early renal allograft dysfunction was an indicator of AR, especially AHR.

Abstract
von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease is an inheritable multisystem tumor syndrome characterized by multiple benign and malignant tumors affecting multiple organs. VHL is the result of a germline mutation in the VHL tumor suppressor gene. Molecular genomic analysis routinely confirms the clinical diagnosis. However, the use of molecular diagnostic methods can often be insufficient for the detection of mosaic germline VHL mutations, making the diagnosis of some cases of VHL difficult. Here, we report the case of a VHL mosaic patient with bilateral renal lesions in the absence of other VHL-associated lesions. A VHL mutation was not originally detected by routine molecular testing. Nonetheless, the detection of a heterozygous c.194C>G (p.Ser65Trp) VHL mutation in the patient's daughter prompted further genetic assessment and eventually resulted in the finding of a mosaic c.194C>G (p.Ser65Trp) VHL mutation in the patient. The mutation rate was 18.8 ± 3.84% in peripheral leukocytes. As the frequency of VHL mosaicism remains underdetermined, the possibility of a diagnosis of mosaic VHL should be considered in patients with both typical and atypical VHL-associated manifestations.

Abstract
High resolution kinetic simulations of collisionless plasma driven by shear show the development of turbulence characterized by dynamic coherent sheetlike current density structures spanning a range of scales down to electron scales. We present evidence that these structures are sites for heating and dissipation, and that stronger current structures signify higher dissipation rates. Evidently, kinetic scale plasma, like magnetohydrodynamics, becomes intermittent due to current sheet formation, leading to the expectation that heating and dissipation in astrophysical and space plasmas may be highly nonuniform and patchy.

Abstract
PURPOSE Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES(®)) is a developing field in minimally invasive surgery that has been applied across a wide range of procedures; however, infectious concerns remain. Most of the applications have been for extraction, rather than reconstructive procedures. Prosthetic hernia repair, is a constructive procedure, has the unique challenge of avoiding contamination and infection of a permanent implant. Utilizing a novel device, we hypothesize that we can significantly reduce or eliminate prosthetic contamination during a transgastric approach for delivery of a clinically relevant, permanent, synthetic prosthetic. METHODS 20 swine explants of stomach with attached esophagus were prepared by placing an ultraviolet (UV) light sensitive gel within the lumen of the stomach. Each stomach then underwent endoscopic gastrotomy utilizing a needle, wire guide, and 18-mm balloon dilator. A 10 × 15 cm polypropylene prosthetic was rolled and tied with a 2-0 silk suture, and delivered with one of two methods. Group A (control) utilized a snare to grasp the prosthetic adjacent to the endoscope, which was used to drag it through the gastrotomy. Group B (device) utilized a modified esophageal stent delivery system to deliver the prosthetic through the gastrotomy. Each prosthetic was then digitally photographed with UV illumination, with the contaminated areas illuminating brightly. Software analysis was performed on the photographs to quantify areas of contamination for each group. Statistical analysis was performed using a two-tailed t test with unequal variance. RESULTS Group A demonstrated a mean of 57 % of the surface area of the prosthetic contaminated with UV light sensitive gel. Group B (experimental group) showed a mean of 0.01 % of the surface area contaminated (p < 0.0001). 95 % confidence intervals indicated that the unprotected delivery technique exposes approximately 6,000 times more of the surface area to contamination than the delivery device. CONCLUSION Use of this modified stent delivery system can nearly eliminate prosthetic contamination when placed via a transgastric approach in a swine explants model. Theoretically, the reduced inoculum size would reduce or eliminate clinical infection. Since the inoculum size required for clinical prosthetic infection for intraperitoneal mesh is unknown, further study is warranted to test the ability to eliminate clinical infection related to prosthetic delivery with this technique.

Abstract
PURPOSE To commission and evaluate gated RapidArc radiotherapy of a linear accelerator (Varian TrueBeam) for treatment of moving targets using a programmable dynamic phantom. METHODS The phantom used had different dosimetry inserts for measurement of dose and dose distribution. It could be programmed to move in the anterior-posterior and superior-inferior axes with different motion patterns, amplitudes and frequencies to simulate lung motions of patients. A set of 4D CT images was acquired with the aid of a Varian RPM system. Images acquired at the 40, 50 and 60% of the motion cycle were selected and transferred to a treatment planning system (Varian Eclipse) for planning. A two-arc RapidArc treatment plan was generated for a C-shaped target volume with a conformity index of 1.49 and transferred to the TrueBeam for treatment delivery. Dose and dose distribution measurements were performed using a 0.057 cc ionization chamber and radiochromic films, respectively and compared with the TPS calculations. Five treatment fractions were given in three days with two different target motion patterns to assess the consistency of the dose delivery. RESULTS Agreement between TPS calculation and measurement were within 1.64% for dose and 3% or 3mm in distance to agreement for dose distribution. Repeatability of dose delivery between treatments was within 0.1% (1SD) in the five treatment fractions delivered in three days. The time required to deliver a dose of 2 Gy to a moving C-shaped target using gated RapidArc technique with two gantry rotations was about 15 minutes. CONCLUSIONS The geometric and dosimetric accuracy and consistency of gated RapidArc radiotherapy had been verified. Our study indicated that the accuracy and consistency of the treatment modality were acceptable for clinical implementation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Statins are the most widely prescribed drug available. Due to this reason, it is important to understand the risks involved with the drug class and individual statins. AIM We conducted a meta-analysis and employed indirect comparisons to identify differing risk effects across statins. DESIGN We included any randomized clinical trial (RCT) of atorvastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, pitavastatin, pravastatin, rosuvastatin and simvastatin used for cardiovascular disease event prevention. The main outcome was adverse events [all-cause mortality, cancers, rhabdomylosis, diabetes, aspartate and alanine aminotransferase (AST/ALT), and creatinine kinase (CK) increases beyond the upper limit of normal]. In order to evaluate the relative effects of each drug on adverse events, we calculated adjusted indirect comparisons of the adverse-event outcomes. RESULTS Seventy-two trials involving 159,458 patients met our inclusion criteria. Overall, statin treatments significantly increased the rate of diabetes when compared to controls (OR: 1.09; 95% CI: 1.02-1.16) and elevated AST (OR: 1.31; 95% CI: 1.04-1.66) and ALT (OR: 1.28; 95% CI: 1.11-1.48) levels when compared to controls. Using indirect comparisons, we also found that atorvastatin significantly elevated AST levels compared to pravastatin (OR: 2.21; 95% CI: 1.13-4.29) and simvastatin significantly increased CK levels when compared to rosuvastatin (OR: 4.39; 95% CI: 1.01-19.07). Higher dose studies had increased risk of AST elevations. DISCUSSION Although statins are generally well tolerated, there are risks associated with almost all drugs. With few exceptions, statins appear to exert a similar risk across individual drugs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity has been associated with reflux esophagitis. However, the association of metabolic syndrome with reflux esophagitis remains unknown. METHODS A case-control study of 372 subjects undergoing upper endoscopy during health checkups was conducted (182 patients with reflux esophagitis vs 190 age and gender-matched controls). We further measured their height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, blood pressure, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein, and fasting blood glucose. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to identify the independent risk factors associated with the presence of reflux esophagitis. KEY RESULTS Reflux esophagitis cases showed higher mean waist circumference (81.37 ± 0.68 vs 79.36 ± 0.70, P < 0.05), waist hip ratio (0.86 ± 0.01 vs 0.84 ± 0.01, P < 0.05) and fasting blood glucose (5.59 ± 0.10 vs 5.32 ± 0.08, P < 0.05) than those in controls. When adjusted for gender and age, multivariate analysis demonstrated that there was a positive dose-response relationship between reflux esophagitis and waist hip ratio (men: OR 3.41, 95% CI 1.52-7.62, women: OR 3.37, 95% CI 1.61-7.06), triglyceride (OR 2.07, 95% CI 1.12-3.82), fasting blood glucose (OR 1.81, 95% CI 1.12-2.94), and metabolic syndrome (OR 2.01, 95% CI 1.15-3.50), there was an inverse dose-response relationship between reflux esophagitis and high-density lipoprotein for men (OR 0.36, 95% CI 0.15-0.85). CONCLUSIONS & INFERENCES High waist hip ratio, triglyceride, fasting blood glucose, and metabolic syndrome were associated with increased risk factors for reflux esophagitis while high high-density lipoprotein for men correlated with a reduced risk of reflux esophagitis.

Abstract
A novel gene encoding avon Willebrand factor D (vWD) domain and three Kazal-type domains was firstly indentified from the ovary of the oriental river prawn Macrobrachium nipponense and this gene was named as MnvWD-Kazal. Bioinformatics analyses showed that this gene encodes a protein of 857 amino acids with a predicted molecular mass of 92.7 kDa. Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-QPCR) analyses revealed that the level of MnvWD-Kazal mRNA expression varied in the developing ovary and substantially differed between other tissues. In the ovary, the level of MnvWD-Kazal expression gradually increased from the perinucleolus (PN) stage to the yolk granule (YG) stage, and then abruptly decreased at the sexual maturation (MA) stage. The maximum expression occurred in the YG stage and the minimum was at the paracmasis (PM) stage. The expression level of MnvWD-Kazal in the intestine was much higher than that in other tissues. The differential expressions of MnvWD-Kazal at different stages of the ovary suggest that this novel gene may play a critical role in the oocyte maturation of M. nipponense.

Abstract
The phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/serine-theronine protein kinase Akt (also known as protein kinase B (PKB))/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway is a vital transduction cascade that is connected with many essential cellular activities, such as growth and survival. Along with extensive pharmacological studies validating the therapeutic potential of targeting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway for the treatment of cancer, kinase inhibitors targeting significant knots of this pathway including PI3K, Akt, mTOR, and 3-phosphoinositide-dependent protein kinase-1 (PDK-1) keep arising and entering clinical studies. Herein, we review the most up-to-date landscape on developing small-molecule kinase inhibitors targeting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, with emphasis on small-molecule inhibitors which have been progressed into clinical studies.

Abstract
Flapping wing flight as seen in hummingbirds and insects poses an interesting unsteady aerodynamic problem: coupling of wing kinematics, structural dynamics and aerodynamics. There have been numerous studies on the kinematics and aerodynamics in both experimental and computational cases with both natural and artificial wings. These studies tend to ignore wing flexibility; however, observation in nature affirms that passive wing deformation is predominant and may be crucial to the aerodynamic performance. This paper presents a multidisciplinary experimental endeavor in correlating a flapping micro air vehicle wing's aeroelasticity and thrust production, by quantifying and comparing overall thrust, structural deformation and airflow of six pairs of hummingbird-shaped membrane wings of different properties. The results show that for a specific spatial distribution of flexibility, there is an effective frequency range in thrust production. The wing deformation at the thrust-productive frequencies indicates the importance of flexibility: both bending and twisting motion can interact with aerodynamic loads to enhance wing performance under certain conditions, such as the deformation phase and amplitude. By measuring structural deformations under the same aerodynamic conditions, beneficial effects of passive wing deformation can be observed from the visualized airflow and averaged thrust. The measurements and their presentation enable observation and understanding of the required structural properties for a thrust effective flapping wing. The intended passive responses of the different wings follow a particular pattern in correlation to their aerodynamic performance. Consequently, both the experimental technique and data analysis method can lead to further studies to determine the design principles for micro air vehicle flapping wings.

Abstract
ABSTRACTParylene films, depending on the type, are thermally stable up to 530°C and have low dielectric constants ranging from 2.35 to 3.15. One of the most interesting properties of this material is its vapor depositability. Conventional vapor deposition involves cracking the parylene dimers at temperatures from 600 to 730 °C and polymerizingthe monomers at - 35 °C to RT. We have developed a simpler and less expensive technique that directly uses the precursors from which the dimers are made. This method requires the use of metal catalysts to produce parylene films. We have used the precursors α,α'-dibromo-p-xylene and dibromotetrafluoro-p-xylene to produce N-type and F-type parylene films. FTIR, XPS, thermal stability, and electrical studies show that the F-type parylene films grown from the precursors are comparable to, or sometimes better than, the films grown from dimer, and have potential microelectronics applications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Statins represent the largest selling class of cardiovascular drug in the world. Previous randomized trials (RCTs) have demonstrated important clinical benefits with statin therapy. AIM We combined evidence from all RCTs comparing a statin with placebo or usual care among patients with and without prior coronary heart disease (CHD) to determine clinical outcomes. DESIGN We searched independently, in duplicate, 12 electronic databases (from inception to August 2010), including full text journal content databases, to identify all statin versus inert control RCTs. We included RCTs of any statin versus any non-drug control in any populations. We abstracted data in duplicate on reported major clinical events and adverse events. We performed a random-effects meta-analysis and meta-regression. We performed a mixed treatment comparison using Bayesian methods. RESULTS We included a total of 76 RCTs involving 170,255 participants. There were a total of 14,878 deaths. Statin therapy reduced all-cause mortality, Relative Risk (RR) 0.90 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.86-0.94, P ≤ 0.0001, I(2)=17%]; cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality (RR 0.80, 95% CI 0.74-0.87, P<0.0001, I(2)=27%); fatal myocardial infarction (MI) (RR 0.82, 95% CI 0.75-0.91, P<0.0001, I(2)=21%); non-fatal MI (RR 0.74, 95% CI 0.67-0.81, P ≤ 0.001, I(2)=45%); revascularization (RR 0.76, 95% CI 0.70-0.81, P ≤ 0.0001); and a composite of fatal and non-fatal strokes (0.86, 95% CI 0.78-0.95, P=0.004, I(2)=41%). Adverse events were generally mild, but 17 RCTs reported on increased risk of development of incident diabetes [Odds Ratio (OR) 1.09; 95% CI 1.02-1.17, P=0.001, I(2)=11%]. Studies did not yield important differences across populations. We did not find any differing treatment effects between statins. DISCUSSION Statin therapies offer clear benefits across broad populations. As generic formulations become more available efforts to expand access should be a priority.

Abstract
ERα is a ligand-dependent nuclear receptor that is important in breast cancer genesis, behavior and response to hormone-based therapies. A T7 phage display screen against full-length human ERα, coupled with genome-wide exon arrays, was used to identify RAC3 as a putative ERα co-regulator. RAC3 is a rho family small GTPase that is associated with cytoskeletal rearrangement. We demonstrate a novel role for nuclear RAC3 as an ERα transcriptional activator, with prognostic implications for metastatic disease. Through in vitro and cell-based studies, RAC3 was shown to exist in a GTP-bound state and act as a ligand specific ERα co-activator of E2-induced transcription. Over expression of RAC3 induced pro-growth and pro-migratory genes that resulted in increased migration of ERα-positive breast cancer cells. Chemical inhibition and genetic knockdown of RAC3 antagonized E2-induced cell proliferation, cell migration, and ERα mediated gene expression, indicating that RAC3 is necessary for full ERα transcriptional activity. In agreement with the molecular and cellular data, RAC3 over expression in ERα-positive breast cancers correlated with a significant decrease in recurrence free survival and a significant increase in the odds ratio of metastasis. In conclusion, RAC3 is novel ERα co-activator that promotes cell migration and has prognostic value for ERα-positive breast cancer metastasis. RAC3 may also be a useful therapeutic target for ERα-positive breast cancers.

Abstract
Primary AT/RT is a rare highly malignant tumor of the CNS, usually occurring in children younger than 5 years of age. The objective of this study was to characterize the CT and MR imaging findings in a series of 5 adult patients with pathologically proved AT/RT. All 5 AT/RTs were supratentorial. In 2 patients who underwent nonenhanced CT, the tumors appeared isoattenuated, and 1 of the 2 tumors contained calcifications. Solid portions of the tumors on MR imaging were isointense on T1-weighted, T2-weighted, and FLAIR images, and 1 case showed restricted diffusion on DWI. The tumors also demonstrated a bandlike rim of strong enhancement surrounding a central cystic area on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging. One tumor was associated with destruction of the calvaria. Although AT/RTs can have nonspecific findings, the tumors in our series were large and isointense on T1-weighted, T2-weighted, and FLAIR images with central necrosis and prominent rim enhancement.

Abstract
SiO(2) mesoporous molecular sieve SBA-15 with the incorporation of erbium ions is studied as a novel type of nanoscopic composite photoluminescent material in this paper. To enhance the photoluminescence efficiency, two schemes have been used for the incorporation of Er(3+) where (1) Er(3+) is ligated with bis-(perfluoromethylsulfonyl)-aminate (PMS) forming Er(PMS)(x)-SBA-15 and (2) Yb(3+) is codoped with Er(3+) forming Yb-Er-SBA-15. As high as 11.17 × 10(-21)cm(2) of fluorescent cross section at 1534 nm and 88 nm of "effective bandwidth" have been gained. It is a 29.3% boost in fluorescent cross section compared to what has been obtained in conventional silica. The upconversion coefficient in Yb-Er-SBA-15 is relatively small compared to that in other ordinary glass hosts. The increased fluorescent cross section and lowered upconversion coefficient could benefit for the high-gain optical amplifier. Finally, the Judd-Ofelt theory has also been used for the analyses of the optical spectra of Er(PMS)(x)-SBA-15.

Abstract
Rheological properties of the upper mantle of the Earth play an important role in the dynamics of the lithosphere and asthenosphere. However, such fundamental issues as the dominant mechanisms of flow have not been well resolved. A synthesis of laboratory studies and geophysical and geological observations shows that transitions between diffusion and dislocation creep likely occur in the Earth's upper mantle. The hot and shallow upper mantle flows by dislocation creep, whereas cold and shallow or deep upper mantle may flow by diffusion creep. When the stress increases, grain size is reduced and the upper mantle near the transition between these two regimes is weakened. Consequently, deformation is localized and the upper mantle is decoupled mechanically near these depths.

Abstract
We investigated the ability of fetal mesenchymal stem cells (fMSCs) to differentiate into brown and white adipocytes and compared the expression of a number of marker genes and key regulatory factors. We showed that the expression of key adipocyte regulators and markers during differentiation is similar to that in other human and murine adipocyte models, including induction of PPARgamma2 and FABP4. Notably, we found that the preadipocyte marker, Pref-1, is induced early in differentiation and then declines markedly as the process continues, suggesting that fMSCs first acquire preadipocyte characteristics as they commit to the adipogenic lineage, prior to their differentiation into mature adipocytes. After adipogenic induction, some stem cell isolates differentiated into cells resembling brown adipocytes and others into white adipocytes. Detailed investigation of one isolate showed that the novel brown fat-determining factor PRDM16 is expressed both before and after differentiation. Importantly, these cells exhibited elevated basal UCP-1 expression, which was dependent on the activity of the orphan nuclear receptor ERRalpha, highlighting a novel role for ERRalpha in human brown fat. Thus fMSCs represent a useful in vitro model for human adipogenesis, and provide opportunities to study the stages prior to commitment to the adipocyte lineage. They also offer invaluable insights into the characteristics of human brown fat.

Abstract
On-line optical cell density probes were implemented to continuously monitor the cell densities in mammalian cell bioreactor and to achieve advanced bioreactor controls. We tested cell density probes from six manufacturers in high cell density bioreactors. When externally calibrated, Aquasant and Ingold backscattering probes produced the most linear probe responses (PR) versus cell density (CD), followed by the ASR and Cerex laser probes. Monitek and Wedgewood transmission probes had lower resolutions. All probes were tested in two murine hybridoma fermentations. Cell densities varied between 1 x 10(6) cells/mL to 20 x 10(6) cells/mL and the bioreactors were operated for 5 to 7 weeks. For our bioreactors, Aquasant, Ingold, ASR, Wedgewood, and Monitek probes gave satisfactory responses. Little fouling was observed with any probe at the end of 2 weeks. Fouling was a possibility after 3 weeks in one bioreactor but its effect can be easily corrected. Cell density control and specific perfusion control of bioreactors based on the Aquasant probe were achieved. Implementation of cell density probe based perfusion control, instead of "step perfusion adjustments" based on manual hemacytometer control, will result in smoother operation, healthier cultures, increased medium delivery efficiency, and reduced operational excursions.

Abstract
In general, Maxwell equations are coupled when governing light propagation through one-dimensional inhomogeneous anisotropic dielectric structures. However, for on-axis propagation in one-dimensional inhomogeneous uniaxially anisotropic dielectric structures with any orientation of the optic axis, and biaxially anisotropic structures with certain orientations of principal axes, we show that the equations can be decoupled into two wave equations satisfied by the two independent polarizations of light. Furthermore, the dielectric tensor in the original Maxwell equations is replaced with effective dielectric constants for each polarization of the light. We also give specialized results for anisotropic multilayer dielectric structures and one-dimensional anisotropic photonic crystals.

Abstract
We demonstrate that a series of one-dimensional photonic crystals made of any dielectric materials, with the periods are distributed in a geometrical progression of a common ratio, r < rc (theta,P), where rc is a structural parameter that depends on the angle of incidence, theta, and polarization, P, is capable of blocking light of any spectral range. If an omni-directional reflection is desired for all polarizations and for all incident angles smaller than thetao, then r < rc (theta(o),p), where p is the polarization with the electric field parallel to the plane of incidence. We present simple and formula like expressions for rc, width of the bandgap, and minimum number of photonic crystals to achieve a perfect light reflection.

Abstract
11100 Background: The pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is multifactorial and includes genetic predisposition, though the precise nature of the latter is as yet poorly understood. Mice heterozygous for the polo like kinase Plk4 develop spontaneous HCC and human HCC cases show a high rate of LOH (loss of heterozygosity) at the Plk4 locus. We hypothesize that Plk4 is a haploinsufficient tumor suppressor in man. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanisms by which a 50% reduction of Plk4 leads to carcinogenesis. Methods: We established Plk4± and Plk4+/+ murine embryonic fibroblast cell lines (MEFs) in vitro. 5 of 5 Plk4+/+ MEF lines senesced at passage 7–8 as expected, while 9 of 9 Plk4±MEF lines immortalized in culture under NIH 3T3 protocol. The latter were used at passage 15–20 for in vivo tumorigenesis studies. Results: Plk4± MEFs demonstrated increased ploidy with increased passage number. By passage 4, Plk4± MEFs showed a near tetraploid karyotype as well as multiple chromosomal rearrangements and deletions, as assessed by Spectral Karyotype (SKY) Analysis. 5 out of 9 late passage Plk4± MEF lines injected into NOD-SCID mice grew tumors, with a latency of 3 to 12 weeks. By contrast, injection of Plk4+/+ MEFs yielded no tumors. Tumors generated from injection of Plk4± MEFs were harvested, cultured and submitted to SKY analysis; this showed increased clonal rearrangements and deletions compared to the parent cell lines. Conclusion: A 50% reduction in Plk4 expression results in immortalization, aneuploidy and chromosomal instability in vitro, and tumorigenicity in vivo. These results demonstrate that insufficient levels of Plk4, whether due to mutation or LOH, can contribute to the pathogenesis of HCC. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract
We investigate diffraction of a white beam in a two-dimensional photonic crystal. Experimental and computational results for a halogen light source are presented. Applying equal-frequency surface analysis, we reproduce the experimental results by computer simulations. The white beam is modeled computationally as a sum of many circular rings; each ring is made up of many wavelength components. We also present computer simulations of the diffraction pattern for a fluorescent light source.
