Abstract
Mungbean Yellow Mosaic India Virus (MYMIV) is one of the most prevalent pathogen that limits soybean production in India. In this study RILs derived from JS335, dominant but MYMIV susceptible variety and PI171443, donor of MYMIV resistance gene in most of the MYMIV resistant varieties released in India and F2 population derived from SL525, a resistant variety released for northern India and NRC101, a susceptible genotype were used to study the inheritance of MYMIV resistance and map the gene responsible for MYMIV resistance. F1s were found to be completely susceptible. F2:3 and RILs population segregated to fit a ratio of 1:2:1 and 1:1 indicating that a single recessive gene controlled resistance to MYMIV. BSA was performed using 144 polymorphic SSR markers. MYMIV resistance gene was mapped on chr 6 (LG C2) within a 3.5-cM genome region between two SSR markers GMAC7L and Satt322 whose size was estimated to be 77.115 kb (position of 12,259,594-12,336,709 bp). This is the first report on linkage mapping of MYMIV resistance gene in soybean. This will be helpful in breeding soybean varieties for resistance against MYMIV responsible for wide spread damage to soybean crop in India using Marker Assisted Selection.

Abstract
Cerium oxide nanomaterials (CeNMs), due to their excellent scavenging properties of reactive oxygen species (ROS), have gained great promise for therapeutic applications. A high level of ROS often degrades the potential of stem cells in terms of survivability, maintenance and lineage differentiation. Here we hypothesize the CeNMs may play an important role in protecting the capacity of stem cells against the oxidative insult, and the suppression mechanism of ROS level may depend on the internalization of CeNMs. We synthesized CeNMs with different directional shapes (aspect ratios) by a pH-controlled hydrothermal method, and treated them to stem cells derived from human dental pulp at various doses. The short CeNMs (nanoparticles and nanorods) were internalized rapidly to cells whereas long CeNMs (nanowires) were slowly internalized, which led to different distributions of CeNMs and suppressed the ROS levels either intracellularly or extracellularly under the H2O2-exposed conditions. Resultantly, the stem cells, when dosed with the CeNMs, were rescued to have excellent cell survivability; the damages in intracellular components including DNA fragmentation, lipid rupture and protein degradation were significantly alleviated. The findings imply that the ROS-scavenging events of CeNMs need special consideration of aspect ratio-dependent cellular internalization, and also suggest the promising use of CeNMs to protect stem cells from the ROS-insult environments, which can ultimately improve the stem cell potential for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine uses. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE Oxidative stress governs many stem cell functions like self-renewal and lineage differentiation, and the biological conditions involving tissue repair and disease cure where stem cell therapy is often needed. Here we demonstrate the unique role of cerium oxide nanomaterials (CeNMs) in rescuing stem cell survivability, migration ability, and intracellular components from oxidative stress. In particular, we deliver a novel finding that nano-morphologically varied CeNMs show different mechanisms in their scavenging reactive oxygen species either intracellularly or extracellularly, and this is related with their different cellular internalizations. We used human dental pulp stem cells for the model study and proved the CeNMs were effective in controlling ROS level by means of scavenging intracellularly or extracellularly, which ultimately led to improving the intact therapeutic potential of stem cells. This work touches an important biological issue of nanomaterial interactions with stem cells under the conditions related with oxidative stress and the resultant damage. The correlation of shape factor in therapeutic nanomaterials with stem cell interaction and the oxidative stress-related functions will provide informative ideas in the design of CeNMs for cellular therapy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of different types of fixation in the enhancement of posttraumatic inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) recovery in displaced mandibular angle fracture and to establish. PATIENTS AND METHODS Thirty patients of displaced mandibular angle fracture were treated with preangulated plate and three-dimensional (3D) matrix plate in two groups and were observed during follow-up at 04,06 and 12 weeks along with other parameters. RESULTS Fifteen patients were treated with preangulated plate and 15 patients with 3D matrix miniplate. There was early nerve recovery in Group A than Group B, with residual paresthesia 20% in Group A and 26.6% in Group B at the end of 12-week follow-up. CONCLUSION The displaced mandibular angle fracture with posttraumatic IAN paresthesia treated with preangulated plate has shown evidence of early nerve recovery than those fractures were treated with matrix miniplate. The fracture fragments displaced more than 9 mm have shown poor nerve recovery in both groups.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ OA) is a degenerative disease characterized by deterioration of articular tissue with concomitant osseous changes in the condyle and/or articular eminence, joint positive for TMJ noise with jaw movement or function, crepitus detected on palpation on opening, closing, right/left lateral, or protrusive movement. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a polysaccharide of the family of glycosaminoglycans. HA has been shown to improve and restore normal lubrication in joint, provide nutrition to the avascular articulating disc, and stabilize the joint. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty patients with OA of TMJ with age limit between 18 and 60 years of age were enrolled in this study. Patients were randomly divided into two groups, in which one group received arthrocentesis only, and another group received arthrocentesis plus intra-articular injection of sodium HA (0.5 ml) in superior joint space in a cycle of 5 weekly arthrocentesis (one per week). Patients were followed at regular interval of 1st day, 5th day, 7th day, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks. Assessment of clinical outcome was done in terms of reduction in pain (visual analog scale score), maximum mouth opening (MMO) in millimeters, painful/pain-free lateral or protrusive jaw movement, and clicking/crepitus in joint. RESULTS Significant reduction in pain was observed in both the groups. MMO, lateral and protrusive movements improved significantly in both groups; however, arthrocentesis with sodium HA was superior to arthrocentesis alone. CONCLUSION Combination of arthrocentesis with HA injection showed much better outcome than arthrocentesis alone.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a potentially malignant disorder of oral mucosa affecting mainly population in South and Southeast Asia. The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of oral colchicine with intralesional injection of hyaluronidase or injection triamcinolone acetonide in patients with Grade II OSMF. Materials and Methods: The study included thirty patients of clinically diagnosed Grade II OSMF. Patients were divided randomly into two groups: Group A patients were treated by administrating tablet colchicine 0.5 mg twice daily with an intralesional injection of hyaluronidase 1500 IU with 0.5 ml of lignocaine hydrochloride at weekly interval for 12 weeks. Group B patients were treated by administering tablet colchicine 0.5 mg twice daily with an intralesional injection of triamcinolone acetonide 10 mg/ml at weekly interval for 12 weeks. Clinical diagnosis was based on burning sensation in mouth, blanching of mucosa, presence of vesicles or ulceration in oral cavity, and reduced mouth opening. Outcome assessment was done at intervals of 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. Results: Improvement in mouth opening and reduction in burning sensation was seen more in Group A patients. Improvement in blanching of mucosa was seen in both the groups. Conclusion: In conclusion, use of injection hyaluronidase with oral colchicine gave better results in terms of increase in mouth opening and improvement in burning sensation without notable side effects. However, for a definite conclusion, further study with large sample size and long follow-up is required.

Abstract
Novel poly(phenylquinoxalines) (PPQs) containing carbonyl and sulfide connecting groups between the aromatic rings were prepared by condensation of various aromatic bis(o-diamines) with novel extended bis(phenyl-1.2-diketones) in m-cresol. An objective of the work was to determine the effect of replacing oxygen by sulfur in extended PPQs. The polymers prepared were soluble in m-cresol, dimethylsulfoxide, N,Ndimethylacetamide, 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone and chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents, and had inherent viscosities as high as 1.23 dl g-1. The PPQs exhibited glass transition temperatures ranging from 217 to 245 C and polymer decomposition temperatures (10% weight loss) as measured by thermogravimetric analysis of 526-568 in air and 510-549 CC in helium. A tough transparent yellow fingernail creasable film with a tensile strength of 94.7 MPa, a tensile modulus of 2562 MPa and elongation at break of 6.4% at 25 "C was cast from a chloroform solution of the polymer prepared from 1,3-bis(phenylglyoxalyl-4phenylthio-4'-benzoyl)benzene and 3,3'-diaminobenzidine. Little difference in properties was observed in the PPQs prepared as compared to the PPQs containing carbonyl and ether connecting groups between the aromatic rings, in spite of the difference in the bonding characteristics of carbon to sulfur and to oxygen.

Abstract
A series of eight novel extended poly(phenylquinoxalines) (PPQs) containing carbonyl, ether and sulphide linking groups were prepared by polycondensation of 4,4'-bis(phenylglyoxalyl-4-phenoxy-4'-benzoyl)diphenyl sulphide, I-D, and 4,4'-bis(phenyl glyoxalyl-4-phenylthio-4'-benzoyl)diphenyl sulphide, 2-D, with four aromatic bis(o-diamines) in m-cresol. The primary objective of this study was to correlate the effect of these linkages on the various properties such as solubility, thermal stability and glass transition temperature of the PPQs. Polymerization of 1-D was carried out in an oil bath maintained at 195-200C whereas polymerization of 2-D was performed at ambient temperature. The polymers prepared were soluble in m-cresol. dimethylsulphoxide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, I-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone and chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents, and formed tough transparent, yellow fingernail-creasable films from chloroform solutions. The inherent viscosities ranged between 0.44 and 0.96 dl g' '. The glass transition temperatures were nearly identical for both systems and ranged from 217-231 'C for polymers prepared from l-D and from 215-233"C for polymers prepared from 2-D. The PPQs having carbonyl and stJlphide linking groups had higher thermal stability in comparison to PPQs having carbonyl, ether and sulphide linkages. The temperature of 10% weight loss for I-D ranged from 484-496 'C in air and 485-516"C in helium whereas those for 2-D ranged from 538-579 XC in air and 522-549 in helium.

Abstract
Providing an osteogenic stimulatory environment is a key strategy to construct stem cell-based bone-equivalent tissues. Here we design a stem cell delivering gel matrix made of collagen (Col) with bioactive glass nanocarriers (BGn) that incorporate osteogenic signaling molecule, fibroblast growth factor 18 (FGF18), a reservoir considered to cultivate and promote osteogenesis of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). The presence of BGn in the gel was shown to enhance the osteogenic differentiation of MSCs, possibly due to the therapeutic role of ions released. The mesoporous nature of BGn was effective in loading FGF18 at large quantity, and the FGF18 release from the BGn-Col gel matrix was highly sustainable with almost a zero-order kinetics, over 4 weeks as confirmed by the green fluorescence protein signal change. The released FGF18 was effective in accelerating osteogenesis (alkaline phosphatase activity and bone related gene expressions) and bone matrix formation (osteopontin, bone sialoprotein, and osteocalcin production) of MSCs. This was attributed to the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling pathway, where the FGF18 release stimulated the endogenous secretion of BMP2 and the downstream signal Smad1/5/8. Taken together, the FGF18-BGn/Col gel is considered an excellent osteopromoting depot to support and signal MSCs for bone tissue engineering.

Abstract
Biocompatible nanomaterials that allow for labeling cells and tissues with the capacity to load and deliver drug molecules hold great promise for the therapeutic-diagnostic purposes in tissue repair and disease cure. Here a novel nanoplatform, called C-dot bioactive organosilica nanosphere (C-BON), is introduced to have excellent theranostic potential, such as controlled drug delivery, visible-light imaging, and NIR photothermal activity. C-dots with a few nanometers were in situ generated in the Ca-containing organosilica mesoporous nanospheres through the sol-gel and thermal-treatment processes. The C-BON exhibited multicolor luminescence over a wide visible-light range with strong emissions and high photostability over time and against acidity and the possible in vivo optical imaging capacity when injected in rat subcutaneous tissues. Moreover, the C-BON showed a photothermal heating effect upon the irradiation of near-infrared. The C-BON, thanks to the high mesoporosity and existence of Ca(2+) ions, demonstrated excellent loading capacity of anticancer drug doxorubicin (as high as 90% of carrier weight) and long-term (over a couple of weeks) and pH/NIR-dependent release ability. The C-BON preserved the compositional merit of Ca-Si glass, having excellent bioactivity and cell compatibility in vitro. Taken all, the multifunctional properties of C-BON-multicolor luminescence, photothermal activity, and high drug loading and controlled release-together with its excellent bioactivity and cell compatibility potentiate the future applications in theranostics (chemotherapy and photothermal therapy with optical imaging).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Magnetic biomaterials have recently gained great attention due to their some intriguing cell and tissue responses. However, little attention has been given to the fields of dental tissue regeneration. In this sense, we aim to investigate the effects of magnetic nanofiber scaffolds on the human dental pulp cell (HDPC) behaviors and to elucidate the underlying signaling mechanisms in the events. METHODS Magnetic nanofiber scaffolds incorporating magnetic nanoparticles at varying contents were prepared into nanofibrous matrices to cultivate cells. Cell growth by MTS assay, odontoblastic differentiation by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, mineralization, and the mRNA expression of differentiation-related genes of HDPCs, in vitro angiogenesis by migration and capillary tube formation in endothelial cells on the conditioned medium obtained from HDPSCs in the presence or absence of scaffolds. Western blot analysis and confocal immunofluorescene were used to asses signaling pathways. RESULTS The growth of HDPCs was significantly enhanced on the magnetic scaffolds with respect to the non-magnetic counterpart. The odontogenic differentiation of cells was significantly up-regulated by the culture with magnetic scaffolds. Furthermore, the magnetic scaffolds promoted the HDPC-induced angiogenesis of endothelial cells. The expression of signaling molecules, Wnt3a, phosphorylated GSK-3β and nuclear β-catenin, was substantially stimulated by the magnetic scaffolds; in parallel, the MAPK and NF-κB were highly activated when cultured on the magnetic nanofiber scaffolds. SIGNIFICANCE This study is the first to demonstrate that magnetic nanofiber scaffolds stimulate HDPCs in the events of growth, odontogenic differentiation, and pro-angiogenesis, and the findings imply the novel scaffolds can be potentially useful as dentin-pulp regenerative matrices.

Abstract
Purpose: To compare the diagnostic information obtained from ultrafast MR imaging with standard MR imaging techniques in pediatric neuroradiology. The goal was to judge whether ultrafast methods can be used to replace standard methods and reduce the need for sedation or general anesthesia as a result of the considerably shorter scan times. Material and Methods: Our prospective study involved 125 patients. Routine clinical imaging was performed along with two ultrafast methods. Single shot fast spin echo (SSFSE) was used to give T2-weighted images and an echo planar imaging (EPI) sequence to provide a T1-weighted images. The ultrafast images were presented to an experienced neuroradiologist who was also given the information present on the initial referral card. These reports based on the ultrafast images were then compared with the formal radiologic report made solely on the basis of the standard imaging. Results: The overall sensitivity and specificity for ultrafast imaging when compared to the reference standard were 78% and 98% with positive and negative predictive values of 98% and 76%. Pathologies characterized by small areas of subtle T2 prolongation were difficult or impossible to see on the ultrafast images but otherwise they provided reliable information. Conclusions: This paper demonstrates that ultrafast MR imaging can diagnose many pediatric intracranial abnormalities as well as standard methods. Anatomic resolution limits its capacity to define subtle developmental anomalies and contrast resolution limitations of the ultrafast methods reduce the detection of pathology characterized by subtle T2 prolongation.

Abstract
The present study reports on 23 extended spectrum β-lactamase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP), isolated from milk samples (n=340) of healthy cows (n=129) and cows with subclinical (n=159) and clinical (n=52) mastitis, from three different states of India viz. West Bengal, Jharkhand and Mizoram. Seven of them were AmpC type β-lactamase producers, as well. The ESBL producing KP were significantly (P=0.006, χ2=10.04, df=2) and more frequently detected in milk samples of mastitic cows than healthy ones. The β-lactamase genes - blaCTX-M, blaTEM and blaSHV were detected in 19, 8 and 3 isolates, respectively. In all but one CTX-M positive isolates, the genetic platform - ISEcp1-blaCTX-M-orf477 was detected. Ten of the isolates carried plasmid mediated quinolone resistance gene - qnrS and 1 isolate possessed qnrB. Again 11 of them were found to have sulfonamide resistance gene - sul1 and 12 possessed class I integron. Sequencing of the class 1 integron revealed the presence of dfrA12/dfrA17 and aadA2/aadA5 gene cassettes conferring resistance to trimethoprim and aminoglycosides, respectively. All the isolates, characterized by enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC) PCR, yielded distinct fingerprinting profile. However, most of the isolates from Jharkhand were clustered along with two isolates each from West Bengal and Mizoram indicating their clonal relatedness even though isolated from geographically different areas. Isolation of ESBL producing KP from bovine milk samples implies its public health significance; as such pathogens may enter the human food chain causing severe health hazards.

Abstract
Background Chemotherapy resistance presents a difficult challenge in treating epithelial ovarian cancer patients, particularly when tumors exhibit resistance to multiple chemotherapeutic agents. A few studies have shown that elevated serum levels of the ovarian cancer biomarker HE4 correlate with tumor chemoresistance, response to treatment, and survival. Here, we sought to confirm our previous results that HE4 contributes to collateral resistance to cisplatin and paclitaxel in vitro and uncover factors that may contribute to HE4-mediated chemoresistance. Methods MTS assays and western blots for cleaved PARP were used to assess resistance of HE4-overexpressing SKOV3 and OVCAR8 clones to cisplatin and paclitaxel. CRISPR/Cas technology was used to knockdown HE4 in HE4-overexpressing SKOV3 cells. A microarray was conducted to determine differential gene expression between SKOV3 null vector-transfected and HE4-overexpressing clones upon cisplatin exposure, and results were validated by quantitative RT-PCR. Regulation of mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and tubulins were assessed by western blot. Results HE4-overexpressing SKOV3 and OVCAR8 clones displayed increased resistance to cisplatin and paclitaxel. Knockdown of HE4 in HE4-overexpressing SKOV3 cells partially reversed chemoresistance. Microarray analysis revealed that HE4 overexpression resulted in suppression of cisplatin-mediated upregulation of EGR1, a MAPK-regulated gene involved in promoting apoptosis. Upregulation of p38, a MAPK activated in response to cisplatin, was suppressed in HE4-overexpressing clones. No differences in extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) activation were noted in HE4-overexpressing clones treated with 25 μM cisplatin, but ERK activation was partially suppressed in HE4-overexpressing clones treated with 80 μM cisplatin. Furthermore, treatment of cells with recombinant HE4 dramatically affected ERK activation in SKOV3 and OVCAR8 wild type cells. Recombinant HE4 also upregulated α-tubulin and β-tubulin levels in SKOV3 and OVCAR8 cells, and microtubule associated protein tau (MAPT) gene expression was increased in SKOV3 HE4-overexpressing clones. Conclusions Overexpression of HE4 promotes collateral resistance to cisplatin and paclitaxel, and downregulation of HE4 partially reverses this chemoresistance. Multiple factors could be involved in HE4-mediated chemoresistance, including deregulation of MAPK signaling, as well as alterations in tubulin levels or stability. Abstract
The recent development of bioactive glasses with nanoscale morphologies has spurred their specific applications in bone regeneration, for example as drug and gene delivery carriers. Bone engineering with stem cells genetically modified with this unique class of nanocarriers thus holds great promise in this avenue. Here we report the potential of the bioactive glass nanoparticle (BGN) system for the gene delivery of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) targeting bone. The composition of 15% Ca-added silica, proven to be bone-bioactive, was formulated into surface aminated mesoporous nanospheres with enlarged pore sizes, to effectively load and deliver bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP2) plasmid DNA. The enlarged mesopores were highly effective in loading BMP2-pDNA with an efficiency as high as 3.5 wt% (pDNA w.r.t. BGN), a level more than twice than for small-sized mesopores. The BGN nanocarriers released the genetic molecules in a highly sustained manner (for as long as 2 weeks). The BMP2-pDNA/BGN complexes were effectively internalized to rat MSCs with a cell uptake level of ∼73%, and the majority of cells were transfected to express the BMP2 protein. Subsequent osteogenesis of the transfected MSCs was demonstrated by the expression of bone-related genes, including bone sialoprotein, osteopontin, and osteocalcin. The MSCs transfected with BMP2-pDNA/BGN were locally delivered inside a collagen gel to the target calvarium defects. The results showed significantly improved bone regeneration, as evidenced by the micro-computed tomographic, histomorphometric and immunohistochemical analyses. This study supports the excellent capacity of the BGN system as a pDNA-delivery nanocarrier in MSCs, and the engineered system, BMP2-pDNA/BGN with MSCs, may be considered a new promising candidate to advance the therapeutic potential of stem cells through genetic modification, targeting bone defects and diseases.

Abstract
Currently there is a strong need for new drug delivery systems, which enable targeted and controlled function in delivering drugs while satisfying highly sensitive imaging modality for early detection of the disease symptoms and damaged sites. To meet these criteria we develop a system that integrates therapeutic and diagnostic capabilities (theranostics). Importantly, therapeutic efficacy of the system is enhanced by exploiting synergies between nanoparticles, drug, and hyperthermia. At the core of our innovation is near-infrared (NIR) responsive gold nanorods (Au) coated with drug reservoirs--mesoporous silica shell (mSi)--that is capped with thermoresponsive polymer. Such design of theranostics allows the detection of the system using computed tomography (CT), while finely controlled release of the drug is achieved by external trigger, NIR light irradiation--ON/OFF switch. Doxorubicin (DOX) was loaded into mSi formed on the gold core (Au@mSi-DOX). Pores were then capped with the temperature-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-based N-butyl imidazolium copolymer (poly(NIPAAm-co-BVIm)) resulting in a hybrid system-Au@mSi-DOX@P. A 5 min exposure to NIR induces polymer transition, which triggers the drug release (pores opening), increases local temperature above 43 °C (hyperthermia), and upregulates particle uptake (polymer becomes hydrophilic). The DOX release is also triggered by drop in pH enabling localized drug release when particles are taken up by cancer cells. Importantly, the synergies between chemo- and photothermal therapy for DOX-loaded theranostics were confirmed. Furthermore, higher X-ray attenuation value of the theranostics was confirmed via X-ray CT test indicating that the nanoparticles act as contrast agent and can be detected by CT.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Insulin sensitizers might influence oxidative stress to improve insulin resistance in diabetes mellitus. The present study was designed with the aim to study the effect of Metformin & Pioglitazone on markers of oxidative stress after 4 weeks of therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (Type 2 DM). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS This was a prospective study with follow up of 4 weeks in patients with Type 2 DM. They were randomized into metformin treated group (N=20) and Pioglitazone treated group (N=20) and healthy age-matched control group (N=20). Data was presented as mean±S.D. Student "t" test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation co-efficient tests were performed to analyze the parametric data in this study. RESULTS Baseline clinical characteristics of the two study groups were similar. There is a significant difference for Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and 2h-Post Prandial Plasma Glucose (PPPG) after 30 days of metformin and pioglitazone treatment. Metformin significantly reduced MDA (p=0.041) and increased SOD (p<0.001). Pioglitazone significantly reduced MDA (p<0.001) but failed to raise SOD level (p=0.132). Mean MDA was 4.57±0.57μM/L in metformin and 2.91±0.66μM/L in pioglitazone treatment with a p-value of <0.001. Further, a similar significant difference was obtained for SOD value by metformin and pioglitazone treatment (7.87±0.72U/ml vs. 6.94±0.53U/ml; p<0.001). CONCLUSION Pioglitazone was superior to Metformin to improve oxidative stress as reflected by reduction in MDA but the antioxidant effect i.e. increase in SOD was seen with metformin only. The differing mechanism of actions of the two drugs on oxidative stress favors co prescription of these drugs for better outcome in improving insulin resistance and diabetic complications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Aedes aegypti, the primary vector of dengue generally breeds in intradomestic and peridomestic containers made up of different materials, i.e. plastic, iron, rubber, earthen material etc. The material of container is likely to affect the temperature of water in container with variation in environmental temperature. The present study was aimed to determine the effect of different container materials on larval development of Ae. aegypti at different temperatures. METHODS Newly hatched I instar larvae (2-4 h old) were used in the study and experiments were conducted using three different containers made up of plastic, iron and earthen material. Three replicates for each type of container at 22, 26, 30, 34, 38, 40, and 42°C were placed in environmental chamber for the development of larvae. RESULTS At temperatures >22°C, 50% pupation was completed in earthen pot within 4.3±0.6 to 6.3±0.6 days followed by plastic containers (5±0 to 8±0 days) and iron containers (6±0 to 9±0 days). Developmental time for 50% pupation in the three containers differed significantly (p < 0.05) at all the experimental temperature ranges. A significant variation was found in the temperature of environmental chamber and the temperature of water in three types of containers (p < 0.05). The difference in the temperatures of water in different containers resulted in significant variations in the developmental period of larvae. More than 35°C temperature of water was found inimical for pupal development. INTERPRETATION & CONCLUSION The results revealed the variation in temperature of water in different types of containers depending on the material of container, affecting duration of larval development. As the larval development was faster in earthen pot as compared to plastic and iron containers, community should be discouraged for storing the water in earthen pots. However, in view of containers of different materials used by the community in different temperature zones in the country, further studies are required for devising area-specific preventive measures for Aedes breeding.

Abstract
BACKGROUND High regenerative and proliferative capacity of blood and its components renders it to be at higher risk of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) which are manifested in several treatment regimens against various ailments such as cancers, viral diseases, and several metabolic disorders. OBJECTIVE It is prudent to come up with some therapeutic entity that can prevent this damage and protects the blood from these ADRs. MATERIALS AND METHODS We examined protective effects of Plumbago zeylanica (PZ) and its active constituent plumbagin (PL) on Sprague Dawley (SD) rats using a phenylhydrazine (Phz) induced hematotoxicity model. Hemoglobin (Hgb), red blood cells (RBCs), mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular Hgb (MCH), MCH concentration (MCHC), leukocytes and platelets were studied. Anti-oxidant enzymes superoxide dismutases 2 and 3 (SODs) and nuclear erythroid 2 p45-related factor 1 and 2 (Nfer-1 and 2) were also studied using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). RESULTS In Phz treated rats, the positive hematotoxic response was obtained in terms of deviated endpoints of blood indices. In PLtreated groups protective response was obtained in terms of normal endpoints of blood indices. In PCR studies, we observed the similar trend. Thus, it can be postulated that PL exerts its protective effects via modulation of anti-oxidant enzymes. CONCLUSION The study proves that PL can be employed against combatting the ADRs associated with several therapeutic treatment regimens. Similar studies employing such pharmacological entities and their combinations may further prove to be effective against ADRs, especially in the context of blood cells. SUMMARY Hematotoxicity is generally encountered in various therapeutic regimens as ADRs (Adverse Drug Reactions). Plumbagin, an active constituent of plant Plumbago zeylanica is tested for its anti-hematotoxic potential in Phenylhydrazine induced hematotoxicity model in Sprague dawley rats. In vivo, in-vitro and molecular studies confirmed the peremptory actions of PL. It was revealed in our studies that the anti-hematotoxic actions of Plumbagin are due to its capacity to modulate anti-oxidant enzyme system.

Abstract
Sex estimation is considered as one of the essential parameters in forensic anthropology casework, and requires foremost consideration in the examination of skeletal remains. Forensic anthropologists frequently employ morphologic and metric methods for sex estimation of human remains. These methods are still very imperative in identification process in spite of the advent and accomplishment of molecular techniques. A constant boost in the use of imaging techniques in forensic anthropology research has facilitated to derive as well as revise the available population data. These methods however, are less reliable owing to high variance and indistinct landmark details. The present review discusses the reliability and reproducibility of various analytical approaches; morphological, metric, molecular and radiographic methods in sex estimation of skeletal remains. Numerous studies have shown a higher reliability and reproducibility of measurements taken directly on the bones and hence, such direct methods of sex estimation are considered to be more reliable than the other methods. Geometric morphometric (GM) method and Diagnose Sexuelle Probabiliste (DSP) method are emerging as valid methods and widely used techniques in forensic anthropology in terms of accuracy and reliability. Besides, the newer 3D methods are shown to exhibit specific sexual dimorphism patterns not readily revealed by traditional methods. Development of newer and better methodologies for sex estimation as well as re-evaluation of the existing ones will continue in the endeavour of forensic researchers for more accurate results.

Abstract
In the present study laccase production potential of a photosynthetic, non nitrogen fixing cyanobacteria Arthrospira maxima (SAE-25780) was investigated for their probable use in synthetic dye decolorization which poses environmental pollution problem in aquatic bodies. A. maxima (SAE-25780) showed a constitutive production of laccase which increased up to 80% in the presence of inducer guaiacol. The optimal condition for laccase was 30 °C, 10 mM sucrose as a carbon source, 10 mM sodium nitrate as a nitrogen source, and 2 mM copper as metal activator. The partially purified laccase showed 84% and 49% decolorization potential for the two anthroquinonic dyes-Reactive Blue 4 and Remazol Brilliant Blue R, respectively (RBBR) within 96 h without any mediator. Therefore the laccase extracted from A. maxima (SAE-25780) can be used efficiently in bioremediation of synthetic dyes from paper, pulp and textile industries.

Abstract
Introduction: Alveolar osteitis (AO) is a complication of tooth extraction which indicates inflammation of alveolar bone of either maxilla or mandible. This study uses Apitherapy where honey catalyses biological reactions to improve immune system, makes local environment unbearable for microorganisms in the affected socket and enhances healing. Materials and Methods: 50 patients of AO were included in the study. After cleansing of the affected socket, honey dressing was applied. Dressings were changed daily for first 2 days and then altenatively. In biochemical investigations, CRP levels in the body were measured using Nephelometry method. Microbiological examination was done for the identification of microorganism and semi quantitative count of colony forming units. Result: Results were assessed from clinical, microbiological, biochemical and radiological findings at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th day based on VAS score, erythema, pus discharge, swelling, lymphadenitis, fever, bleeding on probing, exposed bone and necrotic debris. Pre-Treatment CRP was 2.08 ± 1.62 which significantly (P = 0.0001) decreased to 0.82 ± 0.48. Mean change and average percentage change were 1.25 ± 1.51 and 44.1% respectively. Conclusion: Majority of the patients with exposed bone got healed socket with evidance of granulation tissue and healing gingiva in about one week. CRP levels at the completion of treatment of AO with honey dressing showed a significant decrease from the pre-treatment values indicating fast recovery. Microbiological examination showed presence of normal commensal flora at AO sites like Streptococcus, Staphyloccocus and Enterococcus. So, the role of bacteria in the genesis of AO, if any, appears unclear.
