Abstract
AIMS It has been reported that glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) expression is implicated in resistance to taxanes (docetaxel and paclitaxel) in human breast cancer cells in vitro. In the study presented here, we examine whether GSTP1 expression is associated with resistance to docetaxel or paclitaxel in human breast cancers. We also investigated the relationship between GSTP1 methylation status and response to these taxanes. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty two primary breast cancer patients were treated with docetaxel or paclitaxel as primary systemic treatment (PST). GSTP1 expression was detected immunohistochemically and the hypermethylation status GSTP1 gene was identified with a methylation specific primer assay. RESULTS The mean tumor reduction rate for all patients (n=62) was significantly (p<0.001) higher in GSTP1 negative (0.73+/-0.04; mean+/-standard error) than GSTP1 positive (0.31+/-0.09) tumors. The subset analysis showed that the mean reduction rate was significantly (p=0.005) higher in GSTP1 negative (0.59+/-0.06) than GSTP1 positive (0.11+/-0.13) tumors in the docetaxel group as well as in the paclitaxel group (p=0.006; GSTP1 negative tumors: 0.84+/-0.05; GSTP1 positive tumors: 0.56+/-0.08). On the other hand, GSTP1 methylation showed no significant association with the reduction rate. CONCLUSION Our present study has suggested that GSTP1 protein expression, but not GSTP1 methylation status, might be associated with response to docetaxel and paclitaxel. This suggests that GSTP1 immunohistochemical expression might be a potentially clinically useful predictive factor for response to docetaxel and paclitaxel.

Abstract
We present a measurement of the branching fraction B(D{s}{+}-->mu{+}nu{mu}) using a 548 fb{-1} data sample collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB e{+}e{-} collider. The D{s} momentum is determined by reconstruction of the system recoiling against DKgammaX in events of the type e{+}e{-}-->D{s}{*}DKX, D{s}{*}-->D{s}gamma, where X represents additional pions or photons from fragmentation. This full-reconstruction method provides high resolution in the neutrino momentum and thus good background separation, equivalent to that achieved by experiments at the tau-charm factories. We obtain the branching fraction B(D{s}{+}-->mu{+}nu{mu})=[6.44+/-0.76(stat)+/-0.57(syst)]x10{-3}, implying a D{s} decay constant of f{D{s}}=[275+/-16(stat)+/-12(syst)] MeV.

Abstract
We report a study of the processes e+e- -->J/psiD*D[over](*). In J/psiD*D[over]* we observe a significant enhancement in the D*D[over]* invariant mass spectrum, which we interpret as a new charmoniumlike state and denote X(4160). The X(4160) parameters are M=(4156(-20)+25+/-15) MeV/c2 and Gamma=(139(-61)+111+/-21) MeV. We also report a new measurement of the X(3940) mass and width: M=(3942(-6)+7+/-6) MeV/c2 and Gamma=(37(-15)+26+/-8) MeV. The analysis is based on a 693 fb(-1) data sample recorded near the Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy collider.

Abstract
Distal myopathy with rimmed vacuoles (DMRV) or hereditary inclusion body myopathy (hIBM) is an adult onset slowly progressive myopathy secondary to mutations in the UDP-N-acetylglucosamine 2-epimerase/N-acetylmannosamine kinase (GNE) gene that encodes a bifunctional enzyme which catalyzes the rate-limiting step in sialic acid biosynthesis. Many hypotheses have been proposed to explain why patients develop weakness and atrophy, but are most views are obscure and thus are still considered controversial, partly because of the lack of an appropriate model with which these theories could be clarified. In this review, we briefly summarize the progress in DMRV research, and highlight efforts of researchers in generating the animal model for this myopathy.

Abstract
Mutations in the genes for nuclear envelope proteins of emerin (EMD) and lamin A/C (LMNA) are known to cause Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD) and limb girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD). We compared clinical features of the muscular dystrophy patients associated with mutations in EMD (emerinopathy) and LMNA (laminopathy) in our series. The incidence of laminopathy was slightly higher than that of emerinopathy. The age at onset of the disease in emerinopathy was variable and significantly older than in laminopathy. The initial symptom of emerinopathy was also variable, whereas nearly all laminopathy patients presented initially with muscle weakness. Calf hypertrophy was often seen in laminopathy, underscoring the importance of mutation screening for LMNA in childhood muscular dystrophy with calf hypertrophy. The clinical spectrum of emerinopathy is actually wider than previously known including EDMD, LGMD, conduction defects with minimal muscle/joint involvement, and their intermittent forms. Pathologically, no marked difference was observed between emerinopathy and laminopathy. Increased number and variation in size of myonuclei were detected. More precise observations using electron microscopy is warranted to characterize the detailed nuclear changes in nuclear envelopathy.

Abstract
We report the first search for CP-violating decays of the Upsilon(4S) using a data sample that contains 535 x 10(6) Upsilon(4S) mesons with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. A partial reconstruction technique is employed to enhance the signal sensitivity. No significant signals were observed. We obtain an upper limit of 4 x 10(-7) at the 90% confidence level for the branching fractions of the CP violating modes, Upsilon(4S)-->B(0)B(0)-->J/psiK(S)(0)+J/psi(eta(c))K(S)(0). Extrapolating the result, we find that an observation with 5sigma significance is expected with a 30 ab(-1) data sample, which is within the reach of a future super B factory.

Abstract
The cross section for e+ e- --> pi+ pi- psi(2S) between threshold and sqrt[s]=5.5 GeV is measured using 673 fb(-1) of data on and off the Upsilon(4S) resonance collected with the Belle detector at KEKB. Two resonant structures are observed in the pi+ pi- psi(2S) invariant-mass distribution, one at 4361 +/- 9 +/- 9 MeV/c2 with a width of 74 +/- 15 +/- 10 MeV/c2, and another at 4664 +/- 11 +/- 5 MeV/c2 with a width of 48 +/- 15 +/- 3 MeV/c2, if the mass spectrum is parametrized with the coherent sum of two Breit-Wigner functions. These values do not match those of any of the known charmonium states.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine the frequency of primary collagen VI deficiency in congenital muscular dystrophy (CMD) in Japan and to establish the genotype-phenotype correlation. METHODS We performed immunohistochemistry for collagen VI in muscles from 362 Japanese patients with CMD, and directly sequenced the three collagen VI genes, COL6A1, COL6A2, and COL6A3, in patients found to have collagen VI deficiency. RESULTS In Japan, primary collagen VI deficiency accounts for 7.2% of congenital muscular deficiency. Among these patients, five had complete deficiency (CD) and 29 had sarcolemma-specific collagen VI deficiency (SSCD). We found two homozygous and three compound heterozygous mutations in COL6A2 and COL6A3 in all five patients with CD, and identified heterozygous missense mutations or in-frame small deletions in 21 patients with SSCD in the triple helical domain (THD) of COL6A1, COL6A2, and COL6A3. All mutations in SSCD were sporadic dominant. No genotype-phenotype correlation was seen. CONCLUSION Primary collagen VI deficiency is the second most common CMD after Fukuyama type CMD in Japan. Dominant mutations located in the N-terminal side from the cysteine residue in the THD of COL6A1, COL6A2, and COL6A3 are closely associated with SSCD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND COL6 gene mutations are associated with Ullrich congenital muscular dystrophy (UCMD), which is clinically characterized by muscle weakness from early infancy, hyperlaxity of distal joints, and multiple proximal joint contractures. We previously reported that the majority of patients with UCMD have sarcolemma-specific collagen VI deficiency (SSCD). More recently, we found heterozygous COL6A1 glycine substitutions in patients with UCMD with SSCD. OBJECTIVE To elucidate how COL6A1 glycine mutation leads to SSCD. METHODS We evaluated the synthesis, formation, and binding of collagen VI to the extracellular matrix in fibroblasts with p.G284R mutation in COL6A1. RESULTS Collagen VI was normally secreted into the cultured medium in fibroblasts harboring p.G284R mutation. When the medium with normal collagen VI was added to collagen VI-deficient fibroblast culture, collagen VI bound surrounding the cells, while collagen VI with p.G284R mutation did not. Cell adhesion of fibroblasts with p.G284R mutation was markedly reduced similarly to that of collagen VI-deficient cells. Interestingly, this reduction in adhesion of the cells with p.G284R mutation was recovered by the addition of the medium with normal collagen VI, which would suggest a therapeutic strategy for a replacement therapy. CONCLUSION Heterozygous glycine substitution in COL6A1 may cause decreased binding of collagen VI microfibrils to the extracellular matrix resulting in sarcolemma-specific collagen VI deficiency.

Abstract
10592 Background: Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) are expressed almost constantly but their activities change according to cell cycle phase. We studied the specific activity (SA; activity/expression) of CDKs to accurately evaluate their role in cell proliferation. We focused on the ratio of CDK2 SA to CDK1 SA because this ratio has been associated with rapid tumor growth in human breast cancer xenografts. Our goal was to investigate the prognostic significance of CDK2/1 ratio in node-negative breast cancer. Methods: We used a novel assay to measure SAs of CDK2 and CDK1 in 365 primary breast tumors. All tumors were histologically confirmed invasive breast cancer without lymph node involvement. The primary endpoint was relapse-free survival (RFS). Cut-off values for CDK2/1 ratio were defined as those points that best discriminated groups according to RFS. Tumors were grouped as low (136pts), intermediate (84pts), and high (145pts) CDK2/1 ratio. The median follow-up was 59 months (range 4–102). Results: Pts characteristics are described as follows: menopausal status: pre- 42%, post- 58%; tumor size: =20mm 48%, >20mm 52%; histologic grade (HG): I 28%, II 47%, III 23%; ER: (+) 57%, (-) 42%; PR: (+) 51%, (-) 48%. Pts with HG III or high CDK2/1 ratio showed significantly lower 5y-RFS rates than those with HG I/II or low/intermediate CDK2/1 ratio, respectively (HG: I 97%, II 91%, III 85%, P=0.040; CDK2/1 ratio: low 97%, intermediate 92%, high 85%, P=0.017). In univariate analysis, PR (- vs +, P=0.088) had a tendency to associate with relapse, and HG (III vs I, P=0.024) and CDK2/1 ratio (high vs low, P=0.011) also had a significant correlation with relapse. However, only CDK2/1 ratio showed a significant independent prognostic indicator in multivariate analysis (hazard ratio 2.86, 95% CI 1.25–6.58, P=0.01). More important, among women (n=185) with hormone receptor (HR) positive disease given adjuvant hormone therapy alone, who have had no useful factors to predict their outcomes, high CDK2/1 ratio was also associated with worse prognosis than low CDK2/1 ratio (5y-RFS 84% vs 100%, P=0.007). Conclusions: For patients with node- negative disease, especially those with HR positive tumors given adjuvant hormone therapy alone, the CDK2/1 ratio might be useful as a routine laboratory test to predict outcome. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract
5575 Background: The unpredictable nature of primary epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) response to treatment necessitates the identification of factors that predict long-term outcome. CDK activity is the core regulator of the cell-cycle checkpoint for cancer cells. We previously found that cell death induced by taxanes requires increased activity of CDK1 and CDK2- fundamental kinases in cell proliferation. Thus, we hypothesized that CDK1/2 activities can determine the prognosis of patients with primary EOC. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed frozen ovarian cancer specimens from 72 women treated with cytoreductive surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy for newly diagnosed EOC. Median patient age was 61 years (range, 38–80), 91% had FIGO stage III/IV disease, and 86% were treated with platinum- or taxane-based regimens. Median follow-up was 32 months; median time to treatment failure (TTF), defined as time from surgery to first relapse for patients who had achieved complete response or time to disease progression for those who had persistent disease, was 15 months. Enzymatic activity of CDK1/2 in the tumor tissues was determined by a modified in vitro kinase activity assay using a C2P device (Sysmex Inc.). Recursive partitioning and regression trees algorithm (RPART) was used to identify the cohorts based on CDK1/2 activities. Results: In the univariate analysis, disease stage (p=0.021), type of surgery (optimal vs. suboptimal) (p=0.004), presence of ascites (p=0.043), and CA125 after the adjuvant therapy (p=0.005) were significant predictors of TTF. The cohort with CDK2 activity = 87.3 had a significantly shorter TTF (p=0.014) and the cohort with CDK1 activity = 226.35 showed a trend toward longer TTF (p=0.094). Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis revealed CDK2 activity (<87.3 vs. = 87.3) (p=0.012) and CA125 level at completion of the adjuvant chemotherapy regimen (p=0.02) to be independent predictors of TTF. Conclusion: Our data supports kinase activity of cell cycle as a clinically significant prognostic factor. To extend these findings, we plan to conduct a large prospective study to determine whether CDK1/2 profiling can predict long-term outcome in primary EOC. [Table: see text]

Abstract
586 Background: Increased cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) and reduced CDK2 activity reflects taxane chemosensitivity via regulation of SAC. Novel C2P device (Sysmex Inc.) measures CDK1/2 activity in human tissue within a few hours. We hypothesized that SAC functionality in breast cancer predicts taxane sensitivity. Methods: Biopsy samples obtained before preoperative therapy from 69 pts with primary breast cancer (median age 52, St II, 56%, St III, 40%, HER2 36%, HR 52%) ex vivo with paclitaxel (100 nM) for 24 h, then measured for CDK1/2 activity. Tumors with CDK1/2 ratio > 0.7 were denoted “responders” (CR, PR) based on preclinical testing. Clinical responses were evaluated with sonography. Results: 24 pts could not be evaluated because of unmeasurable or invalid CDK (n=3), no receipt of taxane (n=10), incomplete treatment/lack of imaging (n=10), or receipt of taxane as adjuvant therapy (n=1). Among the 45 evaluable pts, 30 obtained reading to determine the C2P-predicted response, which was significantly associated with the clinical response to preoperative therapy with paclitaxel, docetaxel, docetaxel/doxorubicin, paclitaxel/trastuzumab or lapatinib, or docetaxel/capecitabine (P=0.002; sensitivity 0.83; specificity 0.86; positive predictive value [PPV] 0.95; and negative predictive value [NPV] 0.60). For HER2- tumors, the sensitivity was 0.94; specificity 0.83; PPV 0.94; and NPV 0.83. We fit a series of logistic regression models to assess the relationship between C2P predicted response and clinical outcome. Each model included 1 clinical prognostic factor (HR status, stage, NG, histology, HER2) as well as the C2P prediction factor. In all 5 models C2P remained a statistically significant predictor of clinical response while adjusting for the other prognostic factor. Conclusions: CDK1/2 activity is a promising novel predictive marker to predict response to taxane- containing regimens for HER2- breast cancer. We could not predict taxane sensitivity in HER2+ tumors; this finding is consistent with preclinical findings that HER2 overexpression is involved in abnormal SAC functionality. Thus, the functional SAC reflects taxane sensitivity in HER2- tumors. We are planning a large prospective study to validate these findings. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract
We report measurements of the branching fraction and CP violation parameters in B(0)-->D+ D- decays. The results are based on a data sample that contains 535 x 10(6) BB pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We obtain [1.97+/-0.20(stat) +/- 0.20(syst)] x 10(-4) for the branching fraction of B0-->D+D-. The measured values of the CP violation parameters are S=-1.13+/-0.37+/-0.09, A=0.91+/-0.23+/-0.06, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. We find evidence of CP violation in B0-->D+D- at the 4.1sigma confidence level. While the value of S is consistent with expectations from other measurements, the value of the parameter A favors large direct CP violation at the 3.2sigma confidence level, in contradiction to standard model expectations.

Abstract
We present a measurement of CP asymmetry using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B0-->pi+pi-pi0 decays based on a 414 fb(-1) data sample containing 449 x 10(6) BB pairs. The data was collected on the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+ e- collider. Combining our analysis with information on charged B decay modes, we perform a full Dalitz and isospin analysis and obtain a constraint on the CKM angle phi2, 68 degrees < phi2 < 95 degrees as the 68.3% confidence interval for the phi2 solution consistent with the standard model (SM). A large SM-disfavored region also remains.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Congenital neuromuscular disease with uniform type 1 fiber (CNMDU1) is a rare form of congenital myopathy, which is pathologically diagnosed by the presence of more than 99% of type 1 fiber, with no specific structural changes. Its pathogenic mechanism is still unknown. We recently reported that almost all patients with central core disease (CCD) with ryanodine receptor 1 gene (RYR1) mutations in the C-terminal domain had type 1 fibers, nearly exclusively, in addition to typical central cores. OBJECTIVE To investigate whether CNMDU1 is associated with RYR1 mutation. METHODS We studied 10 unrelated Japanese patients who were diagnosed to have CNMDU1 based on clinical features and muscle pathology showing more than 99% type 1 muscle fibers. We extracted genomic DNA from frozen muscles and directly sequenced all 106 exons and their flanking intron-exon boundaries of RYR1. RESULTS Four of 10 patients had a heterozygous mutation, three missense and one deletion, all in the C-terminal domain of RYR1. Two missense mutations were previously reported in CCD patients. Clinically, patients with mutations in RYR1 showed milder phenotype compared with those without mutations. CONCLUSION Congenital neuromuscular disease with uniform type 1 fiber (CNMDU1) in 40% of patients is associated with mutations in the C-terminal domain of RYR1, suggesting that CNMDU1 is allelic to central core disease at least in some patients.

Abstract
We observe evidence for D(0)-D(0) mixing by measuring the difference in the apparent lifetime when a D(0) meson decays to the CP eigenstates K(+)K(-) and pi(+)pi(-) and when it decays to the final state K(-)pi(+). We find the relative difference of the lifetimes y(CP) to be [1.31+/-0.32(stat)+/-0.25(syst)]%, 3.2 standard deviations from zero. We also search for a CP asymmetry between D(0) and D(0) decays; no evidence for CP violation is found. These results are based on 540 fb(-1) of data recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider.

Abstract
Using 449x10(6) BB[over ] pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider, we observe clear signals for B(+)-->K[over ](0)K(+) and B(0)-->K[over ](0)K(0) decays with 5.3sigma and 6.0sigma significance, respectively. We measure the branching fractions B(B(+)-->K[over ](0)K(+))=(1.22(-0.28-0.16)(+0.32+0.13))x10(-6) and B(B(0)-->K[over ](0)K(0))=(0.87(-0.20)(+0.25)+/-0.09)x10(-6), and partial-rate asymmetries A(CP)(B(+)-->K[over ](0)K(+))=0.13(-0.24)(+0.23)+/-0.02 and A(CP)(B(0)-->K[over ](0)K(0))=-0.58(-0.66)(+0.73)+/-0.04. From a simultaneous fit, we also obtain B(B(+)-->K(0)pi(+))=(22.8(-0.7)(+0.8)+/-1.3)x10(-6) and A(CP)(B(+)-->K(0)pi(+))=0.03+/-0.03+/-0.01. The first and second error in the branching fractions and the partial-rate asymmetries are statistical and systematic, respectively. No signal is observed for B(0)-->K(+)K(-) decays, and for this branching fraction, we set an upper limit of 4.1x10(-7) at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract
The monoclonal antibody to the beta-subunit of H(+)/K(+)-ATPase (mAbHKbeta) cross-reacts with a protein that acts as a molecular chaperone for the structural maturation of sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) Ca(2+)-ATPase. We partially purified a mAbHKbeta-reactive 65-kDa protein from Xenopus ovary. After in-gel digestion and peptide sequencing, the 65-kDa protein was identified as methionine aminopeptidase II (MetAP2). The effects of MetAP2 on SR Ca(2+)-ATPase expression were examined by injecting the cRNA for MetAP2 into Xenopus oocytes. Immunoprecipitation and pulse-chase experiments showed that MetAP2 was transiently associated with the nascent SR Ca(2+)-ATPase. Synthesis of functional SR Ca(2+)-ATPase was facilitated by MetAP2 and prevented by injecting an antibody specific for MetAP2. These results suggest that MetAP2 acts as a molecular chaperone for SR Ca(2+)-ATPase synthesis.

Abstract
We report results of a search for the invisible decay of the Upsilon(1S) via the Upsilon(3S)-->pi+ pi- Upsilon(1S) transition using a data sample of 2.9 fb-1 at the Upsilon(3S) resonance. The data were collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. No signal is found, and an upper limit for the branching fraction at the 90% confidence level is determined to be B(Upsilon(1S)-->invisible)<2.5 x 10(-3).

Abstract
We present improved measurements of CP-violation parameters in B(0) --> phiK(0), eta(')K(0), KS(0)KS(0)KS(0) decays based on a sample of 535 x 10(6) BB pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider. We obtain sin2phi1(eff)=+0.64+/-0.10(stat)+/-0.04(syst) for B(0) --> eta(')K(0), +0.50+/-0.21(stat)+/-0.06(syst) for B(0) --> phiK(0), and +0.30+/-0.32(stat)+/-0.08(syst) for B(0) --> KS(0)KS(0)KS(0) decays. We have observed CP violation in the B(0) --> eta(')K(0) decay with a significance of 5.6 standard deviations. We also perform an improved measurement of CP asymmetries in B(0) --> J/psiK(0) decays and obtain sin2phi1=+0.642+/-0.031(stat)+/-0.017(syst).

Abstract
We present the first evidence of the decay B- --> tau- nu(tau), using 414 fb(-1) of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. Events are tagged by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in hadronic modes. We detect the signal with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations including systematics and measure the branching fraction to be B(B- --> tau- nu(tau)) = (1.79(-0.49) +0.56(stat)(-0.51) +0.46(syst)) x 10(-4). This implies that fB = 0.229(-0.031) +0.036(stat)(-0.037) +0.034(syst) GeV and is the first direct measurement of this quantity.

Abstract
We report the first observation of a near-threshold enhancement in the D(0)D[over](0)pi(0) system from B-->D(0)D[over](0)pi(0)Kappa decays using a 414 fb(-1) data sample collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance. The enhancement peaks at a mass M=3875.2+/-0.7(+0.3)/(-1.6) +/-0.8 MeV/c2 and the branching fraction for events in the peak is B(B-->D(0)D[over](0)pi(0)Kappa)=(1.22+/-0.31(+0.23)/(-0.30))x10(-4). The data were collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+ e- collider.

Abstract
Caveolin-3 is a muscle-specific membrane protein that serves as a scaffold of various molecules. As previously reported, caveolin-3 deficiency causes muscle degeneration in mice. In the present study, gene expression profiles, analyzed in the skeletal muscles of caveolin-3 deficient mice using the DNA microarray technique, showed that the gene of osteopontin, a versatile regulator of inflammation and tissue repair, was significantly down-regulated. This is in contrast to mdx mice showing a markedly up-regulated osteopontin gene in their skeletal muscles. Recently, osteopontin has been reported to be important in the pathogenesis of muscular dystrophy. We examined whether up-regulated osteopontin gene expression in mdx muscles is altered by the deficiency of caveolin-3. To this end, we developed caveolin-3 and dystrophin double-deficient mice and used them for the analysis. Levels of osteopontin mRNA and protein in the double-deficient mice clearly decreased compared with those in mdx mice.

Abstract
CDCP1 is a novel stem cell marker that is expressed in several types of cancer. The mechanisms by which CDCP1 expression is regulated, and the clinical implications of this marker, have not been clarified. In this report, we examine the epigenetic regulation of CDCP1 expression in cell lines and clinical samples from patients with breast cancer. Many CpG sequences were localized around the transcription initiation site of CDCP1. These CpG motifs were found to be poorly methylated in cell lines with high levels of CDCP1 expression and heavily methylated in cell lines with low levels of CDCP1 expression. The in vitro methylation of CpG sites decreased CDCP1 promoter activity, and the addition of a demethylating reagent restored activity. In 25 breast cancer samples, an inverse correlation was noted between the CDCP1 expression level and the proportion of methylated to non-methylated CpG sites. Tumours with high-level CDCP1 expression showed higher levels of proliferation, as revealed by immunohistochemical detection of the MIB-1 antigen, than tumours with low-level CDCP1 expression. These findings indicate that the expression of CDCP1 is regulated by methylation of its promoter region in tumours. CDCP1 expression may prove to be useful in the further characterization of cancers.

Abstract
We report results on a Dalitz analysis of three-body charmless B+/- --> K+/-pi+/-pi+/- decay including searches for direct CP violation. We report the first observation of the decay B+/- --> f2(1270)K+/- with a statistical significance above 6sigma. We also observe first evidence for large direct CP violation in the B+/- --> rho(770)0K+/- channel. The results are obtained with a data sample that contains 386 10(6) BB pairs collected at the Y(4s) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.

Abstract
We have measured the branching fraction , longitudinal polarization fraction f(L), and CP asymmetry coefficients A and S for B(0) --> rho(+) rho(-) decays with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+) e(-) collider using 253 Fb(-1) of data. We obtain B = [22.8 +/- 3.8(stat)(+2.3)(-2.6)(syst)] x 10(-6), f(L) = 0.941 (+0.034)(-0.040)(stat) +/- 0.030(syst). A = 0.00 +/- 0.30(stat) +/- 0.09(syst) and S = 0.08 +/- 0.09(syst). These values are used to constrain the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa phase ; the solution consistent with the standard model is phi(2) = (88 +/- 17) degrees or 59 degrees < phi(2) < 115 degrees at 90% C.L.
