Abstract
Two novel, donor-acceptor-type π-conjugated polymers (P1 and P2) with 3'-(thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2,5-diylbis(methan-1-yl-1-ylidene))bis-(indolin-2-one) (ITTI) as the acceptor and thiophene/bithiophene as the donor are designed and synthesized by palladium-catalyzed Stille coupling. The optical and electrochemical properties of these polymers are characterized and further implemented into organic field-effect transistors (OFET). Both polymers exhibit excellent thermal stability, broad UV-vis absorption, and high highest occupied molecular orbital energy levels. Thermal annealing induces a well-ordered structure, a highly planar π-system (oxygen-sulfur interaction), and a bathochromic shift in the polymers; furthermore, significant enhancement of the long wavelength intensity is also observed. Both polymers exhibit p-type charge transport behavior, with hole mobilities up to 0.51 cm2 V-1 s-1 for P1 and 0.65 cm2 V-1 s-1 for P2. This work demonstrates that ITTI can be a promising building block for the construction of donor-acceptor polymers with high-performance OFETs.

Abstract
Black phosphorene (BP) has shown anisotropic, electronic, mechanical, and thermal properties for various promising applications in recent years. To take full advantage of this unique anisotropy in its further functional design and application, it is of paramount importance to separate BP with well-defined chirality quickly and precisely. In this paper, we propose three efficient methods to separate BP ribbons with different chiralities by utilizing their strong chirality-dependent bending stiffness. Our results show that the bending stiffness in the zigzag direction is 4 times larger than that in the armchair direction. The mechanical anisotropy and bending-binding competition are used to realize chirality-dependent design. To fold, wrap or scroll the BP nanoribbons, it is necessary to overcome the bending stiffness by applying the binding energy between the BP nanoribbons and the contact surfaces. Due to the mechanical anisotropy, the BP nanoribbons could easily be folded, wrapped and scrolled along the armchair direction rather than the zigzag direction. Therefore, we introduce this characteristic in our chirality separation designs as, the self-folding model to fold up the armchair BP nanoribbons by nanoparticles, the suspension-bridge sieve model to pull down the armchair BP nanoribbons, and the nanorod-roller model to scroll up the armchair nanoribbons. Our separation methods in this research can be extended to other 2D materials with anisotropic mechanical properties. We hope our findings would offer a novel route for the manufacturing of BP-based electronic devices and self-assembly of nano-devices.

Abstract
Investigation of the breakup and transfer effect of weakly bound nuclei on the fusion process has been an interesting research topic in the past several years. In comparison with radioactive ion beam (RIB), the beam intensities of stable weakly bound nuclei such as 6,7Li and 9Be, which have significant breakup probability, are orders of magnitude higher. Precise fusion measurements induced by these nuclei have already been performed. However, the conclusion of reaction dynamics was not clear and has contradiction. In order to have a proper understanding of the influence of breakup and transfer of weakly bound projectiles on the fusion process, the 6Li+89Y experiment with incident energies of 22 MeV and 34 MeV was performed on Galileo array in combination with Si-ball EUCLIDES at Legnaro National Laboratory (LNL) in Italy. Using the coincidence by the charged particles and γ-rays, the different reaction channels can be clearly identified.

Abstract
H9N2 avian influenza virus (AIV) of genotype S frequently donate internal genes to facilitate the generation of novel reassortants such as H7N9, H10N8, H5N2 and H5N6 AIVs, posing an enormous threat to both human health and poultry industry. However, the pathogenicity and transmission of reassortant H5 viruses with internal gene cassette of genotype S H9N2-origin in chickens and mice remain unknown. In this study, four H5 reassortants carrying the HA and NA genes from different clades of H5 viruses and the remaining internal genes from an H9N2 virus of the predominant genotype S were generated by reverse genetics. We found that all four H5 reassortant viruses showed attenuated virulence in both chickens and mice, thus leading to increased the mean death times compared to the corresponding parental viruses. Consistently, the polymerase activity and replication ability in mammalian and avian cells, and the cytokine responses in the lungs of chickens and mice were also decreased when compared to their respective parental viruses. Moreover, these reassortants transmitted from birds to birds by direct contact but not by an airborne route. Our data indicate that the internal genes as a whole cassette from genotype S H9N2 viruses play important roles in reducing the pathogenicity of the H5 recombinants in chickens and mice, and might contribute to the circulation in avian or mammalian hosts.

Abstract
To extend our understanding of previous studies on the pathogenesis and mechanism of high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), here we show that Sirtuin 6 (Sirt6), one of the Sirtuin family members which are widely studied in aging, DNA repair, metabolism, inflammation and cancer, was expressed in normal nasal mucosa using immunohistochemical staining and Western blot assay. Sirt6 expression levels were decreased in CRSwNP tissue. Sirt6 expression levels were modulated by small interfering RNA transfection in human nasal epithelial cells (HNE). We found that depletion of Sirt6 suppressed the number of human nasal epithelial cell cilia, and dramatically induced HMGB1 translocation from nucleus to cytoplasm in the HNE cells. Glycyrrhizic acid (GA) and glycyrrhetinic acid (GTA) are specific chemical compounds that may be isolated from the licorice plant. GTA has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic activity: it binds selectively to HMGB1 protein released extra-cellularly and inhibits its cytokine activities through a scavenger mechanism on the protein accumulation. In an in vitro study we used the 18-β-stereoisomer of GTA to enhance Sirt6 expression levels, inhibiting through this mechanism the translocation of HMGB1 protein from nucleus and reversing its extracellular accumulation stimulated by lipopolysaccharides. These findings reveal a previously unknown role for nasal mucosa steady-state conditions in the control of Sirt6 activity, and provide evidence for a relationship between HMGB1 and Sirt6 in CRSwNP, and promising benefits of glycyrrhetinic acid for CRSwNP patients.

Abstract
Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (PMIF) expressed by Plasmodium parasites has been proved to be similar to the mammalian MIF in both structure and biological activity and is a critical upstream regulator in antimalaria innate immunity. In this work, using a genetically modified (MIF-KO) strain of highly lethal rodent Plasmodium yoelii 17XL (Py17XL), we found that PyMIF could increase the secretion of pro-inflammatory factors by eliciting the CD11b(+) Ly6C(+) cells accumulated in the spleen of infected mouse. In addition, the chemotactic effect of PyMIF was demonstrated to associate with cell receptors CXCR2, CXCR4 and the cell surface markers ICAM-1, LFA-4.

Abstract
We report the frequency dependence of the ferromagnetic resonance linewidth of the free layer in magnetic tunnel junctions with all perpendicular-to-the-plane magnetized layers. While the magnetic-field-swept linewidth nominally shows a linear growth with frequency in agreement with Gilbert damping, an additional frequency-dependent linewidth broadening occurs that shows a strong asymmetry between the absorption spectra for increasing- and decreasing external magnetic field. Inhomogeneous magnetic fields produced during reversal of the reference and pinned layer complex is demonstrated to be at the origin of the symmetry breaking and the linewidth enhancement. Consequentially, this linewidth enhancement provides indirect information on the magnetic coercivity of the reference and pinned layers. These results have important implications for the characterization of perpendicular magnetized magnetic random access memory bit cells.

Abstract
The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of different dietary ratios of forage and concentrate (F:C) on ruminal odd- and branched-chain fatty acids (OBCFAs) contents and to evaluate the relationships between OBCFA and ruminal fermentation parameters as well as bacterial populations tested by real-time PCR technique. The experimental design was a 3 × 3 Latin square. Three rumen-fistulated dry Holstein cows were fed three rations with different dietary F:C ratios (F:C; 30:70, 50:50 and 70:30). The rumen samples were collected every two hours (0600, 0800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800, 2000, 2200, 2400, 0200 and 0400 h) over three consecutive days in each sampling period. The results showed that rumen OBCFA profiles are significantly (p < 0.05) affected by the dietary F:C ratios. The concentrations of C11:0, C13:0, iso-C15:0, iso-C16:0, iso-C17:0 and C17:0 were higher in the cows fed dietary F:C ratio of 70:30 than those fed with other two rations. However, the concentrations of anteiso-C15:0, C15:0 and total OBCFA were on the lowest level in the high forage diet. Correlation and regression analysis showed that ruminal OBCFAs had strong relationships with ruminal fermentation parameters and bacterial populations. In particular, the iso-fatty acids had potential power to predict butyrate and isoacids metabolized in the rumen, whereas the fatty acids with 17 carbon atoms correlated with ruminal NH3 -N content. The OBCFA contents have different relationships with fibrolytic and starch bacteria in the rumen. C17:0 and its isomers might be used to predict populations of fibrolytic bacteria.

As currently in China, avian influenza viruses (AIVs) of H9N2 and H5N1 subtypes are endemic in poultry in many areas, while they are prone to reassort with each other naturally. In order to evaluate the risk of the reassortment to public health, A/Goose/Jiangsu/k0403/2010 [GS/10(H5N1)] virus was used as a backbone to generate a series of reassortants, each contained a single internal gene derived from the predominant S genotype of the A/Chicken/Jiangsu/WJ57/2012 [WJ/57(H9N2)]. We next assessed the biological characteristics of these assortments, including pathogenicity, replication efficiency and polymerase activity. We found that the parental WJ/57(H9N2) and GS/10(H5N1) viruses displayed high genetic compatibility. Notably, the H5N1 reassortants containing the PA or NP gene from WJ/57(H9N2) virus significantly increased virulence and replication ability in mice, as well as markedly enhanced polymerase activity. Our results indicate that the endemicity of H9N2 and H5N1 in domestic poultry greatly increases the possibility of generating new viruses by reassortment that may pose a great threat to poultry industry and public health.

Abstract
PURPOSE Endophthalmitis is mediated by inflammatory cytokines. We employed a quantitative antibody array, which profiles protein expression and function in a high-throughput manner, to identify inflammatory mediators in the infectious aqueous and vitreous humor from patients with endophthalmitis. METHODS In this prospective study, aqueous humor (AH) and vitreous humor (VH) samples were obtained from 30 patients with endophthalmitis and were collected during anterior chamber paracentesis and vitrectomy. Control samples were obtained from 32 healthy donors. We examined the expression of 20 inflammatory mediators in AH and VH using a quantitative antibody protein array. Hierarchical cluster analysis based on the expression of the quantified cytokines was applied to identify the specificity of endophthalmitis disease. Validation analysis using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed to confirm the expression of the cytokines identified in the AH and VH samples. RESULTS Our results demonstrated elevated expression of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP)-3α in AH or VH from patients with endophthalmitis. The concentration of IL-17 was upregulated in AH from the patients. The expression of IL-2, IL-5, IL-21, and transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 was downregulated in AH from the patients. The cluster analysis demonstrated that the cytokine profile expression in AH or VH significantly differed between the patients with endophthalmitis and the healthy controls. Confirmation with ELISA validated the increase in IL-1β, IL-6, and MIP-3α in the AH and VH samples from the patients with endophthalmitis. CONCLUSIONS Increased expression of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17, and MIP-3α and decreased expression of IL-2, IL-5, IL-21, and TGF-β in the AH and VH suggests an abnormal cytokine profile in patients with endophthalmitis. Knowledge of this will aid in the diagnosis of infectious endophthalmitis.
