Abstract
ATM deletions and/or mutations are recurrent in lymphoid neoplasms while rearrangements are rare. In this study, we used mate pair sequencing (MPseq) technology to characterize two novel ATM rearrangements in one patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and one patient with T-prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL). Both patients showed chromosome 11q22 aberrations encompassing ATM by conventional karyotype and fluorescence in situ hybridization: isolated t(11;13)(q22;q14) in CLL and a complex karyotype with apparent 11q deletion and unbalanced der(14)t(11;14)(q22;p11.2) in T-PLL. MPseq identified ATM-LINC00371 fusion in CLL and ATM-USP28 in T-PLL, both of which led to ATM inactivation, confirmed by loss of immunohistochemical protein expression. Next-generation sequencing mutation analysis detected concurrent ATM mutation(s) CLL patient, while T-PLL lacked ATM mutation. ATM rearrangements, not apparently detectable using standard laboratory technologies, represent another mechanism of loss-of-function. Recent high-throughput technologies such as MPseq can uncover novel pathogenic gene fusions and resolve complex chromosomal rearrangements in hematologic malignancies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) exist extensively and several of these have been verified to be toxic. Prenatal exposure to PFASs has attracted much attention. Metabolome-wide association analyses can be used to explore the toxicity mechanisms of PFASs by identifying associated biomarkers. OBJECTIVES To evaluate associations between the metabolites in maternal and cord serum and internal exposure to several common PFASs. METHODS Paired maternal and cord serum samples were collected from 84 pregnant women who gave birth between 2015 and 2016. Seven legacy and two novel PFASs were measured. A nontarget metabolomic method and an iterative metabolite annotation based on metabolic pathways were applied to characterize the metabolic profiles. Linear regression adjusted with the false discovery rate and covariates was used to indicate the associations. RESULTS A total of 279 features in maternal serum and 338 features in cord serum were identified as metabolites associated with PFAS exposure. Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) were two PFASs associated with more metabolites, while the two novel chlorinated polyfluorinated ether sulfonic acids (Cl-PFESAs) showed less relevance to the metabolome. With pathway enrichment analysis, we found that three fatty acid metabolisms and retinol metabolism were correlated with PFAS exposure in maternal blood, and that sterol metabolism showed the correlation in both maternal serum and cord serum. CONCLUSIONS We identified metabolites and pathways in pregnant women and fetuses associated with the exposure to several PFAS, indicating a promising application for metabolome-wide association studies. Additional research is needed to confirm causation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Limited studies are available comparing the outcomes of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) with or without adjunctive Er:YAG laser (ERL) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study evaluated the effects of ERL adjunctive NSPT on single-rooted teeth of inadequately controlled T2DM patients with periodontitis. METHODS Twenty-two inadequately controlled T2DM participants with periodontitis were recruited. Adopting a double-blinded split-mouth design and under block randomization, we investigated the effects of ERL in calculus removal then degranulation mode, or a sham treatment, adjunct NSPT, which included two visits of full-mouth root surface debridement delivered within 4-10 days, to test or control single-rooted teeth (Wuxi Stomatology Hospital, trial 2017-016). We followed periodontal parameters (plaque %, bleeding on probing [BOP] %, probing pocket depth [PPD], probing attachment level [PAL]) and selected systemic parameters (fasting plasma glucose [FPG], glycosylated hemoglobin [HbA1c%], high sensitivity C-reactive protein) at baseline, one, three, and six months after periodontal treatment. RESULTS The study was completed as planned. Periodontal parameters, FPG and HbA1c% of the 22 participants appeared significantly improved at six months (p < 0.001). The 44 ERL treated, compared to 44 sham treated single-rooted teeth exhibited significant improvement in BOP, mean PPD, and mean PAL at various postoperative follow-up time points (effect size ≥0.44; p < 0.001). No adverse event was reported. CONCLUSION Periodontal treatment outcomes in the T2DM patients with inadequate glycemic control were better in the single-rooted teeth received ERL adjunct NSPT. Further studies are warranted to confirm the observations reported in this short-term clinical study.

Abstract
San Xiao Lun is a posthumous manuscript by Liu Wansu. It discussed the etiology, pathogenesis and therapeutic principles of diabetes with special prescriptions for it. Most references in this book came from the works of Liu Wansu himself and some of them came from the works of other sources, such as The Internal Cannon of Medicine. It can be seen that it was a book with Liu Wansu's rethinking and summerising about diabetes after he completed his other works. San Xiao Lun was first published in Ru Men Shi Qin in the Jin Dynasty. It was also cited by Yi Fang Lei Ju in Korea in 1445. It was fully recorded and published in Ru Men Shi Qin in the Wanli Period in the Ming Dynasty and therefore, became the basic version of the current one. After that, it envolved into Si Ku Quan Shu. In the end of the Qing Dynasty, this book was published independently with the comments by Zhou Xuehai, being one of the books in the Zhous' Series Medical Books(Zhou Shi Yi Xue Cong Shu).

Abstract
Ixodes vespertilionis is a tick parasitizing on the bodies of bats. In our study, the complete mitogenome of I. vespertilionis was determined by using Illumina sequencing technology. The mitogenome was 14,559 bp in size and was predicted to encode 37 genes including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and one control region. The gene order of the mitogenome is identical to Argasidae and non-Australasian Prostriata. The phylogenetic analysis by the Maximum-likelihood method reveals that I. vespertilionis is phylogenetically closest to Ixodes simplex. These data provide novel reference for further studies on the population genetics and phylogenetics of ticks.

Abstract
Objective: To study the risk factors of adverse pregnancy outcomes for induced abortion of cesarean scar pregnancy in midtrimester. Methods: A national multicenter retrospective study was conducted. A total of 154 singletons pregnant women with cesarean scar pregnancy during the second trimester induced abortion by various reasons in 12 tertiary A hospitals were selected, their pregnant outcomes were observed and the risk factors of serious adverse outcomes were analyzed with univariate and multivariate logstic regression; the role of ultrasound and MRI in predicting placenta accreta and severe adverse outcomes was evaluated, the effectiveness of uterine artery embolization (UAE) in preventing hemorrhage in pregnant women with and without placenta accreta was compared. Results: Among 154 subjects, the rate of placenta accreta was 42.2% (65/154), the rate of postpartum hemorrhage≥1 000 ml was 39.0% (60/154), the rate of hysterectomy was 14.9% (23/154), the rate of uterine rupture was 0.6% (1/154). The risk factor of postpartum hemorrhage≥1 000 ml and hysterectomy was placenta accreta (P<0.01). For each increase in the number of parity, the risk of placenta accreta increased 2.385 times (95%CI: 1.046-5.439; P=0.039); and the risk of placenta accreta decreased with increasing ultrasound measurement of scar myometrium thickness (OR=0.033, 95%CI: 0.001-0.762; P=0.033). The amount of postpartum hemorrhage and hysterectomy rate in the group with placenta accreta diagnosed by ultrasound combined with MRI were not significantly different from those in the group with placenta accreta diagnosed by ultrasound only or MRI only (all P>0.05). For pregnant women with placenta accreta, there were no significant difference in the amount of bleeding and hysterectomy rate between the UAE group [median: 1 300 ml; 34% (16/47)] and the non-embolization group (all P>0.05); in pregnant women without placenta accreta, the amount of bleeding in the UAE group was lower than that in the non-embolization group (median: 100 vs 600 ml; P<0.01), but there was no significant difference in hysterectomy rate [2% (1/56) vs 9% (3/33); P>0.05]. Conclusions: (1) Placenta accreta is the only risk factor of postpartum hemorrhage≥1 000 ml with hysterectomy for induced abortion of cesarean scar pregnancy in midtrimester; multi-parity and ultrasound measurement of scar myometrium thickness are risk factors for placenta accreta. (2) The technique of using ultrasound and MRI in predicting placenta accreta of cesarean scar pregnancy needs to be improved. (3) It is necessary to discuss of UAE in preventing postpartum hemorrhage for induced abortion of cesarean scar pregnancy in midtrimester.

Abstract
AIMS To examine self-management behaviors level and discuss the associated factors among chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. METHODS A descriptive study design was used. A convenience sample of 124 COPD patients was recruited from three hospitals in Fuzhou. Self-management Behaviors, Social Support Rating Scale and The Family APGAR Score were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression were used for data analysis. RESULTS The overall score of self-management behaviors ranged 4-41, with a mean score of 21.26 ± 7.72. Pearson correlation analyses and ANOVA revealed that age, course of disease, education, marital status, family function, subjective support, objective support, and availability of support were positively correlated with overall self-management behaviors (p < .05). Multiple linear regression analyses revealed that subjective support and availability of support significantly predicted self-management behaviors. CONCLUSIONS The level of self-management behaviors of COPD patients was suboptimal. We suggest that people in the patients' social network should provide support for them, and help them use available resources to improve the level of self-management behaviors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to analyze the clinical value of applying RAID quality improvement model in closed-loop management of central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) nursing. METHODS Twelve ophthalmic nurses were trained. Soon afterwards, their related knowledge, operation and scene simulation test scores before and after training were examined and compared. Before and after training, 20 CRAO patients who admitted to the second ward of ophthalmology (Ophthalmology Section 2) of our hospital were included into control group and research group. The former applied routine management, while the latter employed RAID quality improvement model. RESULTS Before intervention, the ESCA scores and the time window of first-aid of the two groups had no significant difference (all P>0.05). While after intervention, the scores of the research group were dramatically improved; the self-care skills, health knowledge, self-responsibility and self-awareness were obviously higher than those of the control group (all P<0.05); the time window of first-aid in the research group was remarkably shorter than that before intervention, dramatically higher than that in the control group (32.34±8.14 vs. 49.46±8.13; P<0.05). After nursing, the overall satisfaction of patients in the research group (95.00%) was higher than that in the control group (70.00%; P<0.05). Meanwhile, compared with those before training, the examination scores of related knowledge and skills of ophthalmic nurses after training were obviously improved (all P<0.05). The incidence of complications in the research group was 5.00%, while that in the control group was 30.00%. The indexes in the research group were lower than those in the control group, with statistically remarkable differences (P<0.05). CONCLUSION RAID quality improvement model is effective in closed-loop management of CRAO nursing, which can effectively improve the quality of nursing for specific diseases and control related indicators. Hence, it's worthy to be promoted.

Abstract
This study was performed to compare the orbital and peri-orbital morphological variations in Apert syndrome patients with different cranial vault suture synostosis, so as to provide an anatomic basis for individualized surgical planning. Computed tomography scans of 57 unoperated Apert syndrome patients and 59 controls were subgrouped as follows: type I, bilateral coronal synostosis; type II, pansynostosis; type III, perpendicular combinations of cranial vault suture synostoses. Orbit bony cavity volume was significantly reduced in type I and type II, by 19% (P < 0.001) and 24% (P < 0.001), respectively. However, the reduction of orbital cavity volume in type III did not reach statistical significance. Globe volume projection beyond the orbital rim, however, increased by 76% (P < 0.001) in type III, versus an increase of 54% (P < 0.001) in type I and 53% (P < 0.001) in type II, due to different ethmoid and sphenoid bone malformations. Maxillary bone volume was only significantly reduced in type I bicoronal synostosis (by 24%, P = 0.048). Both type I and type II developed relatively less zygoma and sphenoid bone volume. Different cranial vault suture synostoses have varied influence on peri-orbital development in Apert syndrome. Instead of mitigating the abnormalities resulting from bicoronal synostosis in type I, additional midline suture synostosis worsens the exorbitism due to a more misshaped ethmoid.

Abstract
The complete mitogenome of Haemaphysalis montgomeryi is reported for the first time in this study. The mitochondrial genome is 14,681 bp in length and includes 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 1 control region. The phylogenetic relations base on the maximum-likelihood (ML) method show that H. montgomeryi and the other members of the genus Haemaphysalis constitute a monophyletic group, confirming that H. montgomeryi belongs to the genus Haemaphysalis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the types of sepM gene mutations and their distribution in clinical isolates of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) and explore the association of sepM gene mutation with the capacity of mutacin Ⅳ production by S. mutans. OBJECTIVE We assessed the capacity of mutacin Ⅳ production in 80 clinical isolates of S. mutans using an inhibition zone assay. The minimum spanning tree and phylogenetic tree of these isolates were constructed using core genome multilocus sequence typing and maximum likelihood method, respectively. GeneMarkS software was used to predict the coding genes of these isolates, and the predicted genes were blasted against the sepM gene sequence of the reference genome UA159 to determine sepM gene mutations and their distribution characteristics in the clinical isolates. The mutation types affecting mutacin Ⅳ production were identified by analyzing the differentially distributed mutations between mutacin Ⅳ-producing isolates and mutacin Ⅳ-free isolates and by comparing the inhibition zones between isolates with sepM gene mutations and those without mutations. OBJECTIVE Among the 80 clinical isolates of S. mutans, 25 isolates were capable of mutacin Ⅳ production and 55 did not produce mutacin Ⅳ. The minimum spanning tree showed that the allelic differences were less among the mutacin Ⅳproducing isolates than among the mutacin Ⅳ-free isolates, and the origins of the mutacin Ⅳ-producing isolates were similar. We identified a total of 34 single base mutations in the 80 clinical isolates, and among them, C31T (P=0.001), G533A (P < 0.001), C756T (P=0.025), and C1036T (P=0.003) showed significant differential distributions between the mutacin Ⅳ-producing and mutacin Ⅳ-free isolates. These differentially distributed mutations were positively correlated with the capacity of mutacin Ⅳ production of the bacteria. OBJECTIVE sepM gene mutations that affect the capacity of mutacin Ⅳ production are present in the clinical strains of S. mutans.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLDs) comprise a heterogeneous group of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive or negative lymphoid or plasmacytic lesions in solid organ or hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplant recipients. Although PTLDs in adults have been extensively studied, the clinicopathologic features of monomorphic B-cell PTLD in children, particularly EBV-negative forms, are still poorly understood. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed all our pediatric cases of monomorphic B-cell PTLDs diagnosed in the past 10 years. Clinical data were reviewed. Pathologic data including histologic types and EBV status were analyzed. Additional immunohistochemical stains, FISH studies, and TP53 gene mutational status were performed. RESULTS 4 of 18 cases were EBV-negative. All 4 EBV-negative cases were strikingly confined to the gastrointestinal (GI) tract or abdominal lymph nodes, while tumors in EBV-positive cases were found at various anatomic sites; 2 of 4 EBV-negative cases carried mutations in TP53 gene. Our cohort also included 2 rare types of PTLD, one plasmablastic lymphoma and one high-grade B-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (HGBL, NOS). CONCLUSION We report that monomorphic B-cell PTLDs in children have distinctive clinical and pathological features. More studies are needed to clarify whether and how much these pediatric PTLDs differ from their adult counterparts.

Abstract
Pediatric high-grade gliomas (pHGGs), including glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), are morbid brain tumors. Even with treatment survival is poor, making pHGG the number one cause of cancer death in children. Up to 80% of DIPGs harbor a somatic missense mutation in genes encoding histone H3. To investigate whether H3K27M is associated with distinct chromatin structure that alters transcription regulation, we generated the first high-resolution Hi-C maps of pHGG cell lines and tumor tissue. By integrating transcriptome (RNA-seq), enhancer landscape (ChIP-seq), genome structure (Hi-C), and chromatin accessibility (ATAC-seq) datasets from H3K27M and wild-type specimens, we identified tumor-specific enhancers and regulatory networks for known oncogenes. We identified genomic structural variations that lead to potential enhancer hijacking and gene coamplification, including A2M, JAG2, and FLRT1 Together, our results imply three-dimensional genome alterations may play a critical role in the pHGG epigenetic landscape and contribute to tumorigenesis.

Abstract
Background:Rituximab is an effective therapy for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients with inadequate responses to methotrexate (MTX)1, 2. However, it has not been registered or approved in China for the treatment of RA by far. HLX01, an approved rituximab biosimilar (demonstrated in Chinese patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma)3, is thus evaluated in this study for the benefits of Chinese RA patients.Objectives:This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of HLX01 plus MTX versus placebo plus MTX in Chinese patients with active RA who had inadequate responses to MTX.Methods:This was a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3 study conducted in China (NCT03522415). Eligible patients were randomised 2:1 to receive intravenous infusion of 2×1000 mg HLX01 or placebo on day 1 and day 15. Patients with inadequate responses at week 16 and 20 were allowed to receive rescue treatments. Patients were retreated with or switched to receive (if initially assigned to placebo) 2×1000 mg rituximab at the first day of week 24 and 26. The primary endpoint of this study was the American College of Rheumatology criteria (ACR) 20 response at week 24. Secondary efficacy endpoints were evaluated at week 12, 24, 36 and 48. The safety, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and immunogenicity of HLX01 were observed and analyzed throughout the study.Results:Between May 28, 2018 and Sep 11, 2020, a total of 275 patients (ITT set) were randomised and 263 patients without major protocol deviations were included in per-protocol set (PPS). At week 24, HLX01 showed statistically superior efficacy (p <0.001) to placebo (ACR20: 60.7% vs 35.9% in ITT set, 60.3% vs 37.1% in PPS). Secondary efficacy endpoints were also significantly improved in HLX01 group compared with placebo (Table 1). The overall incidence of serious treatment emergent adverse events (TEAEs), adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and TEAEs leading to drug discontinuation were similar among treatment groups, with the most common TEAE been upper respiratory tract infection before (18.1% vs 18.5%) or after (13.0% vs 12.3%) week 24. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to identify the different expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) in the plasma derived exosomes of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 9 patients with ESCC and 9 patients with benign diseases were involved. miRNA sequencing was performed to screen differential expression of microRNAs in plasma exosomes between patients with ESCC and controls. The function of miRNA on proliferation and migration abilities was determined by CCK-8 analysis, wound scratch and transwell test. Predicted target genes were screened by databases and confirmed by RT-qPCR. RESULTS We identified a total of 10 miRNAs (7 upregulated and 3 downregulated) that were differentially expressed in plasma exosomes between patients with ESCC and control patients (fold change, FC ≥ 2.0 or ≤ -2.0, p ≤ 0.05) by miRNA sequencing. Ten miRNAs were detected by qRT-PCR to verify the results of the miRNA sequencing. MiR-103a-2-5p demonstrated the most significant differential expression in both exosomes of ESCC cell lines and plasma of patients as compared with control patients and was therefore selected for subsequent functional experiments. Overexpression of miR-103a-2-5p promoted proliferation and migration in TE-1 cells, whereas inhibition of miR-103a-2-5p suppressed proliferation and migration in KYSE-150 cells. Exosomes extracted from the cells transfected with miR-103a-2-5p mimics significantly increased the proliferation and migration of two ESCC cell lines. Two genes, CDH11 and NR3C1 were identified as predicted targets of miR-103a-2-5p by the bioinformatics tools TargetScan, MiRanda, and mirDIP and RT-qPCR. CONCLUSIONS Our results shed light on how exosomal miR-103a-2-5p can promote proliferation and migration of ESCC cells and may represent a potential target for ESCC therapies.

Abstract
In this paper, a method that uses a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and the adaptive particle swarm support vector machine (SVM) method is proposed for detecting and recognizing hidden layer defects in highways. Three common road features, namely cracks, voids, and subsidence, were collected using ground-penetrating imaging. Image segmentation was performed on acquired images. Original features were extracted from thresholded binary images and were compressed using the kl algorithm. The SVM classification algorithm was used for condition classification. For parameter optimization of the SVM algorithm, the grid search method and particle swarm optimization algorithm were used. The recognition rate using the grid search method was 88.333%; the PSO approach often yielded local maxima, and the recognition rate was 86.667%; the improved adaptive PSO algorithm avoided local maxima and increased the recognition rate to 91.667%.

Abstract
Objectives: To delineate clinico-pathological features, treatment and outcome of skeletal muscle single-organ vasculitis (SM-SOV). Methods: The clinico-pathological characteristic of SM-SOV cases treated over 3 years in China-Japan Friendship Hospital were retrospectively analyzed and the data were compared with the cases from the literature. Results: Five patients (2 women and 3 men) with a median age of 36 years were included in this study. The main clinical manifestations were lower limb myalgia (5/5) and fever (1/5). The most frequent laboratory findings included high erythrocyte sedimentation rate (5/5), high C reactive protein (5/5) and leukocytosis (1/5). No elevated creatine kinase (CK) was found in these cases. Four patients received electromyogram examination and none of them showed myogenic injury. On MRI, hyperintense signals in T2 weighted image (T2WI) and/or short TI inversion recovery (STIR) and normal unenhanced T1 weighted image (T1WI) of one or several leg muscles was founded in all 5 patients. All muscle specimens showed nongranulomatous vasculitis without myonecrosis affecting small sized artery (5/5) in perimysia (75.0%, 3/4) or both perimysia and fascia (25.0%, 1/4). Corticosteroids (5/5) and immunosuppressants (5/5) were the main agents prescribed. With a median follow-up of 24 months, sustained remission was observed in 3 patients, relapses occurred in 2 patients. Conclusion: SM-SOV should be considered for patients with lower limb myalgia, high inflammatory markers and normal/low CK level. The diagnosis of SM-SOV should be applied when there are both histologic evidence of vasculitis and a minimum of 6 months of follow-up surveillance without evidences suggesting extra-muscular involvement. Corticosteroid combined with immunosuppressant is effective.

Abstract
Uterine leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a rare but deadly disease. Due to poor understanding of the molecular and genetic causes of the disease, the diagnosis of LMS has been based primarily on histology. Nuclear atypia is one of hallmarks in LMS, however, it also occurs in 2 clinically benign variants, including smooth muscle tumors with fumarate hydratase alteration (SMT‐FH) and leiomyoma with bizarre nuclei (LM‐BN). In addition to nuclear atypia, many well recognized biomarkers used for LMS are also frequently overexpressed in LM‐BN, and the histogenesis and molecular natures for LM‐BN and LMS remain largely unknown. To characterize the molecular profiling of LMS, SMT‐FH, and LM‐BN, we performed integrated comprehensive genomic profiling including whole‐genome sequencing (WGS) and RNA sequencing and genomic microarray analyses to assess genome‐wide copy number alterations (CNAs) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) in all 3 tumor types. We found that both LM‐BN and LMS showed genomic instability and harbored extensive CNAs throughout the whole genome. By contrast, the SMT‐FH presented its characteristic 1q43‐44 deletions in all cases tested, with minimal CNAs in the rest of genomic regions. Further analyses revealed that LMS and LM‐BN groups showed similar patterns of CNAs that are tended to cluster together and separated from the SMT‐FH group. The integrated molecular profiling enabled the detection of novel and traditional biomarkers and showed excellent discrimination between LM‐BN and LMS. Our study suggests that LM‐BN, despite having similar nuclear atypia to SMT‐FH, showed similar genomic instability but distinct genomic alterations with its malignant counterpart of LMS. The integrated molecular profiling is of clinical importance in characterizing these rare uterine smooth muscle tumors.

Abstract
The verification of exposure to nerve agents is a serious challenge, especially in cases of soman (GD) poisoning. Protein adducts are reliable biomarkers, that provide forensic information and evidence during incidents of terrorism or sporadic poisoning. Mass spectrometry, coupled with a proteomics approach, was established for the forensic analysis of GD-based protein adducts. The fragmentation pathways of GD-based protein adducts were investigated for the first time using electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. Three abundant natural loss product ions, [M+2H-54]2+ (loss of two carbon cations), [M+2H-72]2+ (loss of tert-butyl and methyl moieties), and [M+2H-84]2+ (loss of the pinacolyl moieties), were observed in each of the GD-labeled adducts, and the product ions were independent of protein structure and exposure route. A unique mechanism for the formation of product ions involving GD-protein adducts is proposed here. These findings support the development of a simple and precise forensic analysis technique to rapidly verify GD poisoning using these three GD-related product ions.
