[Evaluation of structure of the large arteries in man as elements of a hydraulic system]

The study of large arteries carried out in 30 corpses and the comparison of the parameters and outlines of these vessels with those recommended in applied hydraulics have shown correspondence between the arteries structure and the principles used for criation of optimal conditions of the liquid current in hydraulics.

[Anatomical and surgical notes on the morphology of Hunter's canal]

The morphology of Hunter's canal was examined, together with behaviour of the sheath of the femoral vessels and the relations between this sheath and the walles of the canal. A search was made for morphological and anatomotopographical features capable of explaining early and intense degenerative arteriopathy and the reasons why this is a level of choice for segmentary forms. The extent, constitution and behaviour of the adductor canal are explained. It is shown that, under normal conditions, the sheath is independent of the canal walls. Mechanical influences on the corresponding segment of the artery may be attributable to early inflammation or sclerosis of the cell milieu of the adductor canal.

The microcirculation of peripheral nerves: techniques for perfusion and microangiographic, macrophotographic, and photomicrographic recordings in animals

✓ Modern perfusion techniques with solidifying radiopaque masses are described for tridimensional observation of the microvasculature in live animals, cadavers, or excised organs. Findings are based on perfusion experiments with 100 rabbits, 30 dogs, and five rhesus monkeys. Details of a perfusion experiment on the sciatic nerve of the rabbit are presented, including work-up of preparations, photographs of the microvasculature, and microangiography on high resolution plates; subsequent photographic enlargement demonstrates capillaries to 7 µ. The discussion presents a commentary on perfusion techniques and perfusates, microangiographic equipment, and techniques for minimizing artifacts. Two excellent masses, those created with Microfil and Chromopaque, lend themselves to multipurpose use.

The normal anatomy of the lymphatic system in the human leg

The normal anatomy of the lymphatic system of the lower extremity of man has been described from 34 specimens. The investigation has shown that the lymphovascular network displays the following features:– A strictly regional pattern of drainage.No anastomoses between the subfascial and epifascial lymphatic trunks.No direct communications between the veins and lymphatics both in the epifascial and subfascial systems.

The lymphoid system consists in man of popliteal and inguinal lymph-nodes. In both the lymph-node is neither an obligatory junction between the regional deep or superficial trunks nor does it represent an obligatory terminus for the relevant lymph-trunks.
