[New transplantation materials for reconstructive arterial surgery]

For reconstruction of femoral artery occlusion autologous vena saphena is the best material. In all cases of reocclusion after autologous vein bypass or in cases without adequate vena saphena the heterologous Solco-Collagen-Graft and the new alloplastic Gore-Tex-Teflon arterial prosthesis are two alternative materials. First clinical experiences with the Gore-Tex-Graft in 45 patients and clinical experiences with the bovine Solco-Graft in 54 patients are presented. Both the bovine Solco-Graft and the alloplastic Gore-Tex-Graft provided a patency rate of 75% in patients with chronic arterial diseases state III-IV after 1 year. The special indications for either heterologous bovine Solco-Graft or alloplastic Gore-Tex-prosthesis are demonstrated.

[Iatrogenic foreign bodies in heart (author's transl)]

Two cases are reported of migrating Kirschner wires, which had been inserted for stabilisation of bony defects of the thoracic cage. The wires migrated in both patients to the heart and caused life threatening complications like pericardial tamponade, arrhythmias and cardiac insufficiency. Indications for removal of foreign bodies from the heart are discussed. Attention is drawn to the fact that the ends of Kirschner wires must be bent in order to prevent migration.

[Isolated rupture of the interventricular septum after blunt chest trauma (author's transl)]

The mechanism, symptoms and treatment of traumatic ventricular septal defect are discussed on the basis of an own observation. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report of a rupture of the membranous septum, involving the portion between the left ventricle and the right atrium. An attempt is made to explain the mechanism of isolated traumatic ventricular septal rupture on the basis of embryological considerations. The patient died on the 11th postoperative circulatory status and inspite rather prompt diagnosis and operative treatment.

The in-vivo tolerability of an in vitro in cow, calf and sheep hearts developed method for radiologic visualization of the left ventricular conduction system is tested in four animal experiments. The clinical in-vivo tolerability could be demonstrated on principle; however, it is to accent that hypertonic X-ray contrast dyes may be the cause of morphological changes in the micro- and ultrastructures of the specialised musculature of unknown dignity.
