The complete molecule of the title compound, C(56)H(80)O(8), is generated by a crystallographic inversion centre. The dihedral angle between the aromatic ring and the unique half of the molecule is 81.52 (16)°. There are no π-π inter-actions in the crystal structure.

1,1'-(Propane-1,3-di-yl)bis-(3-phenyl-urea)

The title compound, C₁₇H₂₀N₄O₂, has crystallographic inversion symmetry. In the crystal structure, inter­molecular hydrogen bonding between adjacent urea groups gives rise to infinite polymeric chains diagonally across the bc plane. With a centroid–centroid distance of 3.295 (2) Å, π–π stacking is present in the crystal along the same plane.

(μ-Formato-κO:O')bis-[dicarbon-yl(η-cyclo-penta-dien-yl)iron(II)] tetra-fluoridoborate

In the structure of the title compound [Fe(2)(C(5)H(5))(2)(CHO(2))(CO)(4)]BF(4), each Fe(II) atom is coordinated in a pseudo-octa-hedral three-legged piano-stool fashion. The cyclo-penta-dienyl ligand occupies three fac coordination sites while the two carbonyl ligands and formate O atom occupy the remaining three sites.

3,3'-Diphenyl-1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)dithio-urea

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C₁₈H₂₂N₄S₂, contains one half-mol­ecule, the complete mol­ecule being generated by crystallographic inversion symmetry. The crystal structure features two inter­molecular N—H⋯S hydrogen-bonding inter­actions, the first generating an infinite chain along the b axis and the second an infinite chain along the a axis, together forming an inter­locking structure.

Acetonitrile-dicarbon-yl(η-penta-methyl-cyclo-penta-dien-yl)iron(II) tetra-fluorido-borate

In the structure of the title compound, [Fe{η⁵-C₅(CH₃)₅}(NCCH₃)(CO)₂]BF₄, the arrangement of ligands around the Fe atom is in a pseudo-octa­hedral three-legged piano-stool fashion in which the penta­methyl­cyclo­penta­dienyl (Cp*) ligand occupies three apical coordination sites, while the two carbonyl and one acetonitrile ligands form the basal axes of the coordination. The Fe—N bond length is 1.924 (3) Å and the Fe—Cp* centroid distance is 1.722 Å.

(μ-Ethane-1,2-diamine-κN:N')bis-[dicarbon-yl(η-cyclo-penta-dien-yl)iron(II)] bis-(tetra-fluorido-borate)

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Fe₂(C₅H₅)₂(C₂H₈N₂)(CO)₄](BF₄)₂, contains two half-cations, each located on a center of symmetry, and two tetra­fluorido­borate anions. The iron atoms adopt a three-legged piano-stool geometry. All amine H atoms are involved in N—H⋯F hydrogen bonds, which consolidate the crystal packing along with weak C—H⋯O and C—H⋯F inter­actions.

tert-Butyl 2-hy-droxy-3-(4-methyl-benzene-sulfonamido)-butano-ate

In the crystal of the title compound, C(15)H(23)NO(5)S, mol-ecules are linked through N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen-bond inter-actions, resulting in centrosymmetric dimers in which the N-H⋯O inter-actions generate R(2) (2)(12) rings and the O-H⋯O inter-actions generate R(2) (2)(14) rings. Weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions are also observed.

2,6-Bis(tosyl-oxymeth-yl)pyridine

The title compound, C(21)H(21)NO(6)S(2), is organized around a twofold axis parallel to the crystallographic c axis and containing the N atom and a C atom of the pyridine ring. The tosyl moiety and the pyridine ring are both essentially planar [maximum deviations 0.028 (2) and 0.020 (3) Å, respectively]; their mean planes form a dihedral angle of 33.0 (2)°.

(2R,3S)-Methyl 2-hydroxy-3-(4-methylbenzenesulfonamido)-3-phenylpropanoate

In the title mol­ecule, C₁₇H₁₉NO₅S, the p-tolyl ring is oriented approximately parallel to the phenyl ring [dihedral angle = 17.2 (1)°], resulting in an intra­molecular π–π inter­ation [centroid–centroid distance = 3.184 (10) Å]. In the crystal, mol­ecules are linked through O—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming hydrogen-bonded sheets lying diagonally across the ac face.

cis-N-(2-Hydroxycyclohexyl)-p-toluenesulfonamide

There are two symmetry-independent mol­ecules in the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C₁₃H₁₉NO₃S. The cyclo­hexane rings in the two mol­ecules adopt chair configurations. The hydr­oxy and amino groups on the cyclo­hexane ring assume axial and equatorial orientations, respectively, with respect to the plane of the ring. The crystal structure is stabilized by two inter­molecular N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds from the two symmetry-independent mol­ecules.

Microwave-assisted synthesis of a new series of resorcin[4]arene cavitand-capped porphyrin capsules

Capsule-shaped molecular receptors are fundamental to the modeling of biological host-guest interactions such as those characteristic of enzymatic processes. Among the more versatile and effective synthetic receptors are the hemicarcerand-type hosts. Herein we report the synthesis of six novel resorcin[4]arene cavitand-capped porphyrin capsules, in a new series of molecular capsules modeled on the classical hemicarcerands initially reported by Cram and co-workers. In the first reported instance of its utilisation in the preparation of supramolecularly-capped porphyrin host molecules, microwave (MW) irradiation was used (in conjunction with Adler conditions) in order to form the porphyrin cap in situ. Additionally, the yields obtained via these conditions exhibited a significant improvement, relative to the traditional refluxing protocol hitherto reported. Capsules 20-25 are indefinitely stable, and we observed that 22 and 25 possess the smallest rigidified cavities yet reported for resorcin[4]arene cavitand-capped porphyrin host molecules.

2,8-Dimethyl-10-p-tolyl-10H-phenoxaphosphine

THE TITLE COMPOUND (SYSTEMATIC NAME

3,6-dimethyl-10-p-tolyl-9-oxa-10-phosphaanthracene), C(21)H(19)OP, is a precursor for the preparation of a bidentate xanthene-based ligand, in which the dihedral angle between the toluene ring and the phenoxaphosphine ring system is 83.26 (3)°. The geometry at the P atom is pyramidal, resulting in a longer C-P bond length as compared to the two ring C-P bonds.

7,11,15,28-Tetra-kis[(2-formyl-phen-oxy)methyl]-1,21,23,25-tetra-methyl-resorcin[4]arene cavitand ethyl acetate clathrate at 173 K

The title compound, C₆₈H₅₆O₁₆, was synthesized as a novel synthetic inter­mediate towards deeper and more elaborate resorcin[4]arene cavitands. The structure is the first reported example of a resorcin[4]arene cavitand bearing aromatic aldehyde functional groups at the extra-annular rim of the mol­ecule. The 2-formyl­phen­oxy residues are found to assume two different orientations above the mol­ecular cavity. One half of the resorcin[4]arene cavitand mol­ecule appears in the asymmetric unit; the complete resorcin[4]arene cavitand structure was generated across a mirror plane. In addition, a highly disordered ethyl acetate solvent mol­ecule is present within the mol­ecular cavity.

7,11,15,28-Tetra-bromo-1,21,23,25-tetra-phenethyl-resorcin[4]arene cavitand-acetone-chloro-form (1/1.31/0.69) at 173 K

The crystal structure of the title compound, C₆₄H₅₂Br₄O₈·1.31C₃H₆O·0.69CHCl₃, is described. The structure has been reported previously [Bryant, Blanda, Vincenti & Cram (1991). J. Am. Chem. Soc.113, 2167–2172]; however, the lower data acquisition temperature results in an improved refinement model. In addition, the presence of residual acetone and (disordered) chloro­form within the mol­ecular structure of the title compound represents a new clathrate of the title compound. One half of the resorcin[4]arene cavitand mol­ecule appears in the asymmetric unit; the complete resorcin[4]arene cavitand structure was generated across a mirror plane.

Dicarbonyl(η5-cyclopentadienyl)bis(trimethylphosphine)molybdenum(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate

In the title compound, [Mo(C₅H₅)(CO)₂(C₃H₉P)₂]CF₃SO₃, the cationic complex displays a classical four-legged piano-stool square-pyramidal geometry with a trans configuration of the basal ligands around the Mo atom. The cyclo­penta­dienyl (Cp) ligand occupies the apical position of the piano-stool configuration. The average Mo—P bond length of the two trans PMe₃ ligands is 2.474 (5) Å and the Mo—Cp centroid distance is 2.003 (2) Å.

A P,O,P'-tridentate mixed-donor scorpionate ligand: 6-[4,6-bis-(diphenyl-phosphino)-10H-phenoxazin-10-yl]hexan-1-ol

The title compound, C(42)H(39)NO(2)P(2), is a P,O,P'-tridentate scorpionate-type ligand and has one mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The angles involving the P atoms range from 100.21 (7) to 104.89 (7)°. The N-hexa-nol group was found to be disordered and was refined over two positions with final occupancies of 0.683 (3) and 0.317 (3) which affected the C-O and C-N bond lengths. The bond lengths for C-O range from 1.402 (2) to 1.415 (2) Å and for C-N from 1.410 (2) to 1.448 (3) Å for the major disorder component; the corresponding ranges for the minor disorder component are 1.429 (3)-1.408 (3) and 1.474 (3)-1.474 (4) Å.

Redetermination of chlorido(2,2':6',2''-terpyridine-κN,N',N'')gold(I) dichloride trihydrate at 173 K

The redetermined structure of the title compound, [AuCl(C(15)H(11)N(3))]Cl(2)·3H(2)O, at 173 (2) K is reported. The structure displays O-H⋯Cl and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding. The distance of one of the chloride ions from the gold(I) atom [5.047 (1) Å] differs from that determined previously.

Substitutional disorder in the substituted nixantphos ligand C(39)H(32)Br(0.27)Cl(0.73)NOP(2)

The structure of 10-(3-bromo/chloro­prop­yl)-4,6-bis­(diphenyl­phosphino)-10H-phenoxazine, C₃₉H₃₂Br_0.27Cl_0.73NOP₂, shows chloro/bromo substitutional disorder in a 3:1 ratio. For application as a ligand in catalysis, the intra­molecular P⋯P distance of 4.263 (2) Å is relevant. The phenoxazine ring system is essentially planar.

4,6-Bis(diphenyl-phosphino)phenoxazine (nixantphos)

The title compound, C(36)H(27)NOP(2), has been reported as a ligand on rhodium for the catalysis of hydro-formyl-ation reactions. The key feature of the compound is the intra-molecular P⋯P distance of 4.255 (2) Å. The bond angles at the P atoms range from 99.93 (10) to 103.02 (10)°. The phenoxazine ring system is essentially planar and a non-crystallographic mirror plane through the N⋯O vector bis-ects the mol-ecule. The C-O bond lengths range from 1.388 (2) to 1.392 (2) Å and the C-N bond lengths range from 1.398 (3) to 1.403 (3) Å.
