Abstract
Objective To explore the role of Galectin3 in transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β)-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in A549 cells. Methods Galectin3 was over-expressed in an A549 cell line. EMT was induced in lung cancer A549 cells by adding TGF-β. The expressions of Galectin3,E-cadherin,and vimentin were determined by Western blot. The protein expression of E-cadherin and the morphological changes of the cells were detected by immunofluorescence. Cellular proliferation was analyzed with cell counting kit-8,and the cellular migration and invasion was measured by scratches healing and Transwell assay,respectively.Results When only Galectin3 was over-expressed in A549 cell line,the expression levels of EMT-related proteins such as E-cadherin and vimentin were not changed,and the abilities of cellular proliferation,invasion,and migration were not changed either. When the EMT was induced by TGF-β in A549 cells,the E-cadherin expression was down-regulated and the vimentin expression was up-regulated in A549 cells with Galectin3 over-expression. There was no significant change in cellular proliferation,whereas the abilities of cellular invasion and migration were enhanced.Conclusion The TGF-β-induced EMT in A549 cells can be enhanced by Galectin3.

Abstract
In this work, garnet-framework Li3Nd3W2O12 as a novel insertion-type anode material has been prepared via a facile sol-gel method and examined as a lithium container for lithium ion batteries (LIBs). Li3Nd3W2O12 shows a charge capacity of 225 mA h g-1 at 50 mA g-1, and with the current density increasing up to 500 mA g-1, the charge capacity can still be maintained at 186 mA h g-1. After cycling at 500 mA g-1 for 500 cycles, Li3Nd3W2O12 retains about 85% of its first charge capacity changed from 190.2 to 161 mA h g-1. Furthermore, in situ X-ray diffraction technique is adopted for the understanding of the insertion/extraction mechanism of Li3Nd3W2O12. The full-cell configuration LiFePO4/Li3Nd3W2O12 is also assembled to evaluate the potential of Li3Nd3W2O12 for practical application. These results show that Li3Nd3W2O12 is such a promising anode material for LIBs with excellent electrochemical performance and stable structure.

Abstract
VNb9O25 is a novel lithium storage material, which has not been systematically investigated so far. Via electrospinning technology, VNb9O25 samples with two different morphologies, pored nanoribbon and rodlike nanoparticles, are prepared in relatively low temperature and time-saving calcination conditions. It is found that the formation process of different morphologies depends on the control of self-aggregation of the precursor by using different sample collectors. Compared with rodlike VNb9O25 (RL-VNb9O25), pored nanoribbon VNb9O25 (PR-VNb9O25) can deliver a higher specific capacity, lower capacity loss, and better cyclability. Even cycled at 1000 mA g-1, the reversible capacity of 132.3 mAh g-1 is maintained by PR-VNb9O25 after 500 cycles, whereas RL-VNb9O25 only exhibits a capacity of 102.7 mAh g-1. The enhancement should be attributed to the pored nanoribbon structure with large specific surface area and shorter pathway for lithium ions transport. Furthermore, the lithium ions insertion/extraction process is verified from refinement results of in situ X-ray diffraction data, which is associated with a lithium occupation process in type III and VI cavities through tunnels I, II, and III. In addition, high structural stability and electrochemical reversibility are also demonstrated. All of these advantages suggest that PR-VNb9O25 is a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract
It will have broad applications in cell biology if one of egg cell extracts has the roles to promote cell proliferation and reprogramming. It will provide a new method for easier reprogramming somatic cells and promote cell proliferation. We found chicken egg-white extracts have roles to promote cell proliferation and reprogramming. The different ingredients were then assessed for cell proliferation activity and somatic cell reprogramming. Chicken egg-white extract ingredients that were less than 3 kDa (LT3K) promoted cell proliferation. Those ingredients that were greater than 3 kDa (GT3K) promoted the increased expression of pluripotency factors in somatic cells and promote telomeres growth in 293T cells. Chicken egg-whites can be separated into ingredients of LT3K, which act to promote cell proliferation, and GT3K, which can be used to promote somatic cell reprogramming.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Elevated fat mass and redistribution of body fat are commonly observed in postmenopausal women. Aquaporin 7 (AQP7), a unique glycerol permeable integral membrane protein, has been associated with the onset of obesity. We hypothesized that estrogen supplementation could counteract this fat accumulation and redistribution through tissue-specific modulation of AQP7. METHODS We measured fat depot weight, adipocyte size, and the expression of AQP7 and glycerol kinase (GK) in visceral and subcutaneous fat tissues of ovariectomized mice supplemented with or without 17β-estradiol. RESULTS Removal of the ovaries resulted in a significant decrease in AQP7 expression and an increase in GK expression in visceral adipocyte tissue; expression of AQP7 and GK in subcutaneous adipose tissue remained unaltered. Supplementation with estrogen significantly restored the visceral, but not subcutaneous, fat depot mass and adipocyte size to those of sham-operated mice. A marked increase in the expression of AQP7 and a reduction of GK were observed selectively in the visceral fat depots in estrogen-treated mice. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that estrogen has tissue-specific effects on AQP7 expression, and modulation of AQP7 by estrogen alters the balance of adipocyte metabolism between adipose tissue depots.

Abstract
Asians have been the fastest growing overseas-born population inAustralia, more than doubling from 1981 to 1991. Based on the 1991 Census, this article broadly examines economic and social characteristics of the Asian-born population in Australia. Economic factors such as labor force participation, unemployment, occupation, income and housing reveal a great diversity in the settlement experience of the Asian-born, attributable to the diversity of backgrounds. The speed and success of adjustment by refugees and migrants from business, skill and family migrant streams are assisted by such social factors as English language proficiency.

Abstract
Our current understanding of Earth's core formation is limited by the fact that this profound event is far removed from us physically and temporally. The composition of the iron metal in the core was a result of the conditions of its formation, which has important implications for our planet's geochemical evolution and physical history. We present experimental and theoretical evidence for the effect of pressure on iron isotopic composition, which we found to vary according to the alloy tested (FeO, FeH(x), or Fe3C versus pure Fe). These results suggest that hydrogen or carbon is not the major light-element component in the core. The pressure dependence of iron isotopic composition provides an independent constraint on Earth's core composition.

Abstract
Via Li(+), Cu(2+), Y(3+), Ce(4+), and Nb(5+) dopings, a series of Na-site-substituted Na1.9M0.1Li2Ti6O14 are prepared and evaluated as lithium storage host materials. Structural and electrochemical analyses suggest that Na-site substitution by high-valent metal ions can effectively enhance the ionic and electronic conductivities of Na2Li2Ti6O14. As a result, Cu(2+)-, Y(3+)-, Ce(4+)-, and Nb(5+)-doped samples reveal better electrochemical performance than bare Na2Li2Ti6O14, especially for Na1.9Nb0.1Li2Ti6O14, which can deliver the highest reversible charge capacity of 259.4 mAh g(-1) at 100 mA g(-1) among all samples. Even when cycled at higher rates, Na1.9Nb0.1Li2Ti6O14 still can maintain excellent lithium storage capability with the reversible charge capacities of 242.9 mAh g(-1) at 700 mA g(-1), 216.4 mAh g(-1) at 900 mA g(-1), and 190.5 mAh g(-1) at 1100 mA g(-1). In addition, ex situ and in situ observations demonstrate that the zero-strain characteristic should also be responsible for the outstanding lithium storage capability of Na1.9Nb0.1Li2Ti6O14. All of this evidence indicates that Na1.9Nb0.1Li2Ti6O14 is a high-performance anode material for rechargeable lithium ion batteries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Colour is the most important feature used in quantitative immunohistochemistry (IHC) image analysis; IHC is used to provide information relating to aetiology and to confirm malignancy. METHODS Statistical modelling is a technique widely used for colour detection in computer vision. We have developed a statistical model of colour detection applicable to detection of stain colour in digital IHC images. Model was first trained by massive colour pixels collected semi-automatically. To speed up the training and detection processes, we removed luminance channel, Y channel of YCbCr colour space and chose 128 histogram bins which is the optimal number. A maximum likelihood classifier is used to classify pixels in digital slides into positively or negatively stained pixels automatically. The model-based tool was developed within ImageJ to quantify targets identified using IHC and histochemistry. RESULTS The purpose of evaluation was to compare the computer model with human evaluation. Several large datasets were prepared and obtained from human oesophageal cancer, colon cancer and liver cirrhosis with different colour stains. Experimental results have demonstrated the model-based tool achieves more accurate results than colour deconvolution and CMYK model in the detection of brown colour, and is comparable to colour deconvolution in the detection of pink colour. We have also demostrated the proposed model has little inter-dataset variations. CONCLUSIONS A robust and effective statistical model is introduced in this paper. The model-based interactive tool in ImageJ, which can create a visual representation of the statistical model and detect a specified colour automatically, is easy to use and available freely at http://rsb.info.nih.gov/ij/plugins/ihc-toolbox/index.html . Testing to the tool by different users showed only minor inter-observer variations in results.

Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of short, noncoding RNAs that act a crucial role in tumor development. Previous studies showed that miR-448 expression was deregulated in many tumors. However, the role of miR-448 in gastric cancer (GC) remains unknown. In our study, we demonstrated that miR-448 expression was downregulated in GC tissues compared with the corresponding nontumor tissues. We also showed that miR-448 expression was downregulated in GC cell lines. Ectopic expression of miR-448 suppressed GC cell proliferation, colony formation, and invasion. Moreover, we identified A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinases 10 (ADAM10) as a direct target gene of miR-448 in GC cell. ADAM10 expression was upregulated in GC tissues and cells. Furthermore, the expression level of miR-448 was negatively correlated with the expression level of ADAM10 in GC tissues. Moreover, ADAM10 overexpression rescued the effect of miR-448-mediated GC cell proliferation, colony formation, and invasion. These results demonstrated that miR-448 might play as a tumor suppressor miRNA partly through targeting ADAM10 expression.
