Abstract
In TST-2 Ohmic discharges, local current is measured using a Rogowski probe by changing the angle between the local magnetic field and the direction of the hole of the Rogowski probe. The angular dependence shows a peak when the direction of the hole is almost parallel to the local magnetic field. The obtained width of the peak was broader than that of the theoretical curve expected from the probe geometry. In order to explain this disagreement, we consider the effect of sheath in the vicinity of the Rogowski probe. A sheath model was constructed and electron orbits were numerically calculated. From the calculation, it was found that the electron orbit is affected by E × B drift due to the sheath electric field. Such orbit causes the broadening of the peak in the angular dependence and the dependence agrees with the experimental results. The dependence of the broadening on various plasma parameters was studied numerically and explained qualitatively by a simplified analytical model.

Abstract
A prototype C(6+) injector using a laser ion source has been developed for a compact synchrotron dedicated to carbon ion radiotherapy. The injector consists of a laser ion source and a 4-vane radio-frequency quadrupole (RFQ) linac. Ion beams are extracted from plasma and directly injected into the RFQ. A solenoid guides the low-energy beams into the RFQ. The RFQ is designed to accelerate high-intensity pulsed beams. A structure of monolithic vanes and cavities is adopted to reduce its power consumption. In beam acceleration tests, a solenoidal magnetic field set between the laser ion source and the RFQ helped increase both the peak currents before and after the RFQ by a factor of 4.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE West syndrome is an epileptic encephalopathy characterized by epileptic spasms, a specific pattern on electroencephalography of hypsarrhythmia, and developmental regression. Our aim was to assess white matter abnormalities in West syndrome of unknown etiology. We hypothesized that diffusion tensor imaging reveals white matter abnormalities, especially in patients with poor seizure and developmental outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS We enrolled 23 patients with new-onset West syndrome of unknown etiology. DTI was performed at 12 and 24 months of age. Fractional anisotropy images were compared with those of controls by using tract-based spatial statistics. We compared axial, radial, and mean diffusivity between patients and controls in the fractional anisotropy skeleton. We determined correlations of these parameters with developmental quotient, electroencephalography, and seizure outcomes. We also compared DTI with hypometabolism on fluorodeoxyglucose positron-emission tomography. RESULTS At 12 months of age, patients showed widespread fractional anisotropy reductions and higher radial diffusivity in the fractional anisotropy skeleton with a significant difference on tract-based spatial statistics. The developmental quotient at 12 months of age correlated positively with fractional anisotropy and negatively with radial and mean diffusivity. Patients with seizure and abnormal findings on electroencephalography after initial treatments had lower fractional anisotropy and higher radial diffusivity. At 24 months, although tract-based spatial statistics did not show significant differences between patients and controls, tract-based spatial statistics in the 10 patients with a developmental quotient of <70 had significant fractional anisotropy reduction. In patients with unilateral temporal lobe hypometabolism on PET, tract-based spatial statistics showed greater fractional anisotropy reduction in the temporal lobe ipsilateral to the side of PET hypometabolism. CONCLUSIONS Diffuse abnormal findings on DTI at 12 months of age suggest delayed myelination as a key factor underlying abnormal findings on DTI. Conversely, asymmetric abnormal findings on DTI at 24 months may reflect underlying focal pathologies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the roles of circulating B cells in the pathogenic process of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) by measuring the expression of chemokines and their receptors. METHODS Peripheral-blood mononuclear cells were obtained from 17 active, 21 inactive SLE patients, and 13 healthy controls. The expression of CXCR4, CXCR5, and CCR7 on CD19+ B cells was determined by flow cytometry, serum concentration of CXCL12 was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the chemotactic responsiveness of B cells toward CXCL12 was evaluated. B or plasma cells expressing CXCR4 in renal biopsy specimens were detected using immnofluorescent staining. RESULTS Flow cytometric analysis revealed that expression level of CXCR4 on circulating B cells was significantly higher in patients with active disease than in those with inactive disease or controls. Serum CXCL12 concentration was not different between these groups. In addition, the migratory ability of B cells toward CXCL12 was enhanced in active SLE patients. Finally, CXCR4-expressing B cells were more frequently observed in the renal biopsy specimens of lupus nephritis. CONCLUSIONS Up-regulated CXCR4 expression on circulating B cells in active SLE may enhance their chemotactic response toward CXCL12, which may promote infiltration of these cells into inflamed renal tissue and contribute to the development of SLE.

Abstract
Orteronel is newly identified as a selective 17,20-lyase inhibitor for an agent for castration resistant prostate cancer. The absorption and disposition of [(14)C]orteronel were investigated in rats and monkeys. Orteronel was extensively excreted into rat and monkey urine in an unchanged form after oral administration. The unbound based renal clearances in rats and monkeys were greater than the respective glomerular filtration rates (GFR), suggesting that urinary tubular secretion plays an important role in the renal excretion of orteronel. Therefore, the uptake of [(14)C]orteronel was investigated using rat kidney slices to estimate the contribution of carrier-mediated transport on the urinary tubular secretion. The uptake study using rat kidney slices suggested that the transport of orteronel from the blood circulation to the kidney was mediated by a digoxin sensitive transport system represented by Oatp4c1 and non-saturable components. Furthermore, the saturable component accounted for a limited fraction of the total renal uptake by rat kidney slices. These results suggested that non-saturable uptake mainly contributed to the renal excretion of orteronel in rats.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To clarify the prevalence of anti-signal recognition particle (anti-SRP) antibody in connective tissue diseases (CTDs) and investigate the clinical characteristics of patients without inflammatory myopathy. METHOD Sera from 6180 patients with CTD were examined by immunoprecipitation (IPP) assays, and the records of patients positive for anti-SRP antibody were reviewed retrospectively. The antibody against the 54-kDa protein of SRP (SRP54) was quantified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in patients with anti-SRP antibody. RESULTS Of the 28 patients positive for anti-SRP antibody, nine (32.1%) did not have inflammatory myopathy. The clinical diagnoses and characteristics of those patients varied considerably. In patients with inflammatory myopathy, the index of anti-SRP54 was much higher than in those without myopathy (1.15 vs. 0.46; p = 0.036). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of anti-SRP antibody was 0.5% in a cohort of Japanese patients with CTD, and one-third of them did not have inflammatory myopathy. Sera from patients with inflammatory myopathy recognized SRP54 more strongly than in those without myopathy.

Abstract
In contrast to a complex feature of antinodal state, suffering from competing orders, the pairing gap of cuprates is obtained in the nodal region, which therefore holds the key to the superconducting mechanism. One of the biggest question is whether the point nodal state as a hallmark of d-wave pairing collapses at Tc like the BCS-type superconductors, or it instead survives above Tc turning into the preformed pair state. A difficulty in this issue comes from the small magnitude of the nodal gap, which has been preventing experimentalists from solving it. Here we use a laser ARPES capable of ultrahigh-energy resolution, and detect the point nodes surviving far beyond Tc in Bi2212. By tracking the temperature evolution of spectra, we reveal that the superconductivity occurs when the pair-breaking rate is suppressed smaller than the single-particle scattering rate on cooling, which governs the value of Tc in cuprates. The pairing gap of the high-Tc cuprates has been expected to close at the transition temperature, similarly to the case of conventional superconductors. Here the authors perform ARPES measurements on Bi2212, and reveal a point nodal gap formation beyond Tc, characterized in terms of three parameters.
