Abstract
OBJECTIVE To understand the status of knowledge, attitude and practice on echinococcosis prevention and control and investigate their influencing factors among residents living in Seda County of Sichuan Province, so as to provide a scientific basis for the further implementation of health education interventions in the county. METHODS A multi-stage stratified random sampling method was employed on September 2018. Ten townships were randomly sampled, and 2 to 3 administrative villages were randomly sampled from each township. Then, 20 to 40 households were randomly sampled from each village, and 1 to 2 villagers were investigated in each household. The knowledge, attitude and practice on echinococcosis prevention and control were investigated using a household questionnaire survey, and the factors affecting the qualification of echinococcosis prevention and control knowledge were identified using chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. RESULTS A total of 760 questionnaires were assigned, and 748 effective questionnaires were recovered, with a recovery rate of 98.42%. The overall qualification rate of echinococcosis prevention and control knowledge was 56.42% (422/748) in residents living in Seda County, and the awareness of the question "How to get echinococcosis?" was only 48.40%. The proportion of subjects with a positive attitude towards echinococcosis prevention and control was 64.71% to 94.79%, and the rate of corrected echinococcosis prevention and control behaviors was 10.40% to 82.45%. Univariate analysis showed that factors affecting the qualification rate of echinococcosis prevention and control knowledge included gender, occupation, education level, frequency of echinococcosis screening and frequency of health education (all P < 0.05), and binary logistic regression analysis showed that women, herdsmen as the primary occupation, an education level of primary school and below, absence of echinococcosis screening and absence of health education were factors responsible for the unqualified awareness of echinococcosis prevention and control knowledge (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS There is a low awareness rate of echinococcosis prevention and control knowledge and a low proportion of corrected echinococcosis prevention and control behaviors in residents living in Seda County, Sichuan Province. Multiple forms of health education activities pertaining to echinococcosis prevention and control are needed with adaptation to local circumstance, and implementation of appropriate behavioral interventions is recommended.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Dachengqi decoction (DCQD) belongs to a family of purgative herbal formulas widely used in China for the treatment of acute pancreatitis (AP). AP is a prevalent digestive disease currently without an effective pharmacological intervention. Formula granules have become the preferred method for delivery of herbal formulation in China given its benefit of potency retention, dosing precision and ease of use. The efficacy of DCQD formula granules (DFGs) in experimental AP models has not been investigated. AIM OF THE STUDY To analyse and compare the differences in chemical composition of DFGs, with their aqueous extraction (AE) and chloroform extraction (CE) derivatives. To assess their efficacy on severity and targeted pancreatic pro-inflammatory signalling pathways in freshly isolated acinar cells and two models of experimental AP. MATERIAL AND METHODS UPLC-Q-TOF-MS was used to analyse chemical components of DFGs and their extractions. Freshly isolated mouse pancreatic acinar cells were treated with taurolithocholic acid 3-sulphate disodium salt (TLCS, 500 μM) with or without DFGs, AE and CE. Apoptotic and necrotic cell death pathway activation was measured by caspase 3/7 (10 μl/mL) and propidium iodide (PI, 1 μM), respectively, using a fluorescent plate reader. Necrotic acinar cells were also counted by epifluorescence microscopy. Mice received either 7 intraperitoneal injections of caerulein (50 μg/kg) at hourly intervals or retrograde infusion of TLCS (3 mM, 50 μl) to induce AP (CER-AP and TLCS-AP, respectively). In CER-AP, mice received oral gavage of DFGs (2.1, 4.2 and 5.2 g/kg), AE (0.6, 1.2, and 2.4 g/kg) and CE (4, 9 and 17 mg/kg), or matched DFGs (1.8 g/kg) and AE (1 g/kg) for 3 times at 2-hourly intervals, or a single intraperitoneal injection of DCQD-related monomers rhein (20 mg/kg), narigeinine (25 mg/kg), and honokiol (5 mg/kg) begun at the 3rd injection of caerulein. In TLCS-AP, DFGs (4.2 g/kg) were given orally at 1, 3 and 5 h post-surgery. Disease severity and pancreatic pro-inflammatory markers were determined. RESULTS The main effective anthraquinones and their glycosides, flavonoids and their glycosides, polyphenols and lignans were found in the DFGs. A higher proportion of polar components including glycosides attached to anthraquinones, phenols and flavonoids was found in AE. Conversely, lower polar components containing methoxy substituted flavonoids and anthraquinones were more abundant in CE. DFGs were given at 4.2 g/kg, a consistent reduction in the pancreatic histopathology score and severity indices was observed in both CER-AP and TLCS-AP. In vitro, AE significantly reduced both apoptotic and necrotic cell death pathway activation, while CE increased TLCS-induced acinar cell necrosis. In vivo, AE at dose of 1.2 g/kg consistently reduced pancreatic histopathological scores and myeloperoxidase in the CER-AP that were associated with suppressed expression of pro-inflammatory meditator mRNAs and proteins. CE increased lung myeloperoxidase and failed to protect against CER-AP in all dosages. AE was demonstrated to be more effective than DFGs in reducing pancreatic histopathological scores and myeloperoxidase. CONCLUSIONS AE from DFGs alleviated the severity of mouse AP models via an inhibition of pancreatic pro-inflammatory signalling pathways. Efficacy of AE on experimental AP was more potent than its original DFGs and DCQD monomers.

Abstract
Gastric cancer (GC) remains a major cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. GATA4 has been previously reported to exhibit functions in GC. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of GATA4 gene methylation on GC progression. Methylation-Sensitive High-Resolution Melting was used to detect the methylation of GATA4 promoter region in GC tissues and adjacent normal tissues, GC cell lines and GES-1 cells. The relationship between GATA4 methylation level and clinical characteristics of GC patients was analyzed. GATA4 levels in GC tissues and adjacent normal tissues, GC cell lines and GES-1 cell lines were detected, and gain-of-function was performed to investigate the role of GATA4 in GC. si-GATA4 was transfected into GES-1 cells to observe the changes of various indicators. RNA-seq detected the differentially expressed genes in SGC-7901 cells overexpressing GATA4, and western blot analysis verified their expression. GATA4 methylation rate was increased in GC tissues, and GATA4 promoter was abnormally methylated in GC cells. GATA4 methylation rate in GC tissues was related to lymph node metastasis, differentiation degree and clinical stage of GC patients. Lower expressed GATA4 was observed in GC tissues and cells. Cell proliferation rate decreased and cell apoptosis rate increased in SGC-7901 cells overexpressing GATA4. Transfecting si-GATA4 into GES-1 cells led to increased proliferation, inhibited apoptosis, and restoration of GATA4 led to decreased APC and GSK3β levels. In conclusion, restoration of GATA4 caused by 5-Aza treatment can inhibit the proliferation and promote apoptosis of GC cells possibly via Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. This study may offer new sight for GC treatment.

Abstract
The elderly are the majority of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Compared to the overall population's predictive guidance, an effective predictive guidance for elderly patients can better guide patients' postoperative treatment and improve overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Recently, the long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been found to play an important role in predicting tumor prognosis. To identify potential lncRNAs to predict survival in elderly patients with NSCLC, in the present study, we chose 456 elderly patients with NSCLC and analyzed differentially expressed lncRNAs from four Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets (GSE30219, GSE31546, GSE37745 and GSE50081). We then constructed an eight-lncRNA formula to predict elderly patients’ prognosis in NSCLC. Furthermore, we validated the prognostic values of the new risk model in two independent datasets, TCGA (n=670) and GSE31210 (n=130). Our data suggested a significant association between risk model and patients’ prognosis. Finally, stratification analysis further revealed the eight-lncRNA signature was an independent factor to predict OS and DFS in stage I elderly patients from both the discovery and validation groups. Functional prediction revealed that 8 lncRNAs have potential effects on tumor immune processes such as lymphocyte activation and TNF production in NSCLC. In summary, our data provides evidence that the eight-lncRNA signature could serve as an independent biomarker to predict prognosis in elderly patients with NSCLC especially in elderly stage I patients.

Abstract
On 5 May 2017, MMS observed a crater-type flux rope on the dawnside tailward magnetopause with fluctuations. The boundary-normal analysis shows that the fluctuations can be attributed to nonlinear Kelvin-Helmholtz (KH) waves. Reconnection signatures such as flow reversals and Joule dissipation were identified at the leading and trailing edges of the flux rope. In particular, strong northward electron jets observed at the trailing edge indicated midlatitude reconnection associated with the 3-D structure of the KH vortex. The scale size of the flux rope, together with reconnection signatures, strongly supports the interpretation that the flux rope was generated locally by KH vortex-induced reconnection. The center of the flux rope also displayed signatures of guide-field reconnection (out-of-plane electron jets, parallel electron heating, and Joule dissipation). These signatures indicate that an interface between two interlinked flux tubes was undergoing interaction, causing a local magnetic depression, resulting in an M-shaped crater flux rope, as supported by reconstruction.

Abstract
The present study was to evaluate antioxidative effect of tea extract granule (TEG) on oxidative stress induced by cyclophosphamide (Cy) in chickens. In experiment 1, chickens were randomly divided into 5 groups with 10 birds in each. Groups 3 to 5 were orally administered TEG in drinking water for 7 D at doses of 20, 40, and 80 mg/kg body weight, respectively. After that, groups 2 to 5 received intramuscular injection of Cy (100 mg/kg BW) for 3 D. Group 1 was not treated as a control. In experiment 2, chickens were grouped in the same way as in experiment 1. Groups 2 to 5 received intramuscular injection of Cy (100 mg/kg BW) for 3 D. After that, groups 3 to 5 were orally administered TEG in drinking water for 7 D at doses of 20, 40, and 80 mg/kg BW, respectively. Results showed that Cy injection induced significantly decreased body weight and oxidative stress. Oral administration of TEG before or after Cy injection increased body weight, the thymus, bursa, and spleen indices, total antioxidant capacity, and the levels of glutathione; elevated the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase; as well as decreased the protein carbonyl content, lipid peroxide, and malondialdehyde. In addition, TEG administration reduced intracellular reactive oxygen species. Therefore, TEG could be a promising agent against oxidative stress in the poultry industry.

Abstract
Lodging resistance can be improved by enhancing the mechanical strength of culms, and culm carbohydrates could improve this mechanical strength. Culm carbohydrates can regulate development of the culm and affect its toughness. The present study determines the relationship between lodging and carbohydrate content in oat culms. Field experiments were conducted in alpine regions in 2017 and 2018 using three oat varieties with different lodging resistance. Lodging-related morphological characteristics were directly determined and culm carbohydrate content and enzyme activity related to cellulose synthesis and sucrose metabolism were evaluated with ultraviolet spectrophotometry. Results showed that the lower the gravity height or the lower ratio of gravity height to plant height, the stronger the lodging resistance of the varieties. Higher culm nonstructural (NSC) and structural (SC) carbohydrate content contributed to the ability of culms to resist lodging, especially the content of cellulose and sucrose. PCA showed that sucrose metabolism and SC content were closely related to lodging resistance. Correlation analysis showed that the lodging index (LI) was significantly negatively correlated with NSC. Sucrose content was highly and significantly positively correlated with NSC. Additionally, the activities of sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS) and sucrose synthase (SS) were highly and significantly positively correlated with sucrose and cellulose content. The relationship between field characters and oat lodging, as well as the regulatory mechanism of carbohydrate content on lodging resistance of the culm are discussed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of harmless acute pancreatitis score (HAPS) on admission for predicting mild acute pancreatitis (MAP). METHODS We prospectively collected the data from consecutive AP patients admitted to West China Hospital between January, 2016 and August, 2017, and HAPS scores were calculated on admission. The clinical outcomes of the patients with harmless AP (HAPS>2) and those with non-harmless AP (HAPS≤2) were compared. MAP was defined based on the severity classification of 2012 Revised Atlanta guidelines. The area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver- operator characteristic curve (ROC), specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of HAPS on admission for predicting MAP were analyzed. RESULTS Of the 703 patients with AP analyzed, 182 were predicted to have harmless AP and 521 to have non- harmless AP, and the patients in the latter group had significantly worse clinical outcomes (P < 0.001). The total number of patients with MAP was 359 in the study. The specificity, the sensitivity, the PPV and NPV of HAPS on admission for predicting MAP was 97.7% (95% CI: 95.4-99.0), 48.2% (95% CI: 42.9-53.3), 95.6% (95% CI: 91.5- 98.1) and 64.1% (95% CI: 59.8- 68.2), respectively, and the AUC was 0.749 (95% CI: 0.72- 0.78). CONCLUSIONS HAPS score on admission can accurately predict MAP.

Abstract
The Intrauterine fetal development process is complicated and affected by many regulating factors such as maternal nutritional status, transcription factors and adipokines. Adipokines are kinds of active substances secreted by adipose tissue, including more than 50 kinds of molecules. To explore the correlation between calf birth weights and adipokines including adiponectin, leptin, visfatin, and IGF-1 in cows venous and venous cord blood. Fifty-four healthy multiparous Chinese Holstein cows were used; in which, cows with a calf weight less than 40 kg were included in group A (n=9); those with a calf weight between 40 kg~45 kg were included in group B (n=25) and ≥45 kg were included in group C (n=20), venous blood and cord venous blood was collected. An ELISA kit was used to evaluate the concentration of adiponectin, leptin, visfatin, and IGF-1, correlations between index-index and index-calf birth weight were analysed. In both cows venous and cord venous blood, adiponectin, leptin, visfatin, and IGF-1 levels were significantly correlated with each other (p⟨0.01), and levels of these adipokines in venous blood were significantly higher than cord venous blood (p⟨0.01). Adiponectin, leptin, visfatin, and IGF-1 in venous cord blood were positively correlated with calf birth weights, and significantly correlated with calf birth weights respectively (p⟨0.01). Our study showed that adiponectin, leptin, and IGF-1 were found in venous blood and cord venous blood, and adiponectin, leptin, and IGF-1 in venous and cord venous blood potentially inter-regulated each other; adiponectin, leptin, and IGF-1 in venous blood were not significantly correlated with calf birth weights, while adiponectin, leptin, visfatin, and IGF-1 in venous cord blood were significantly correlated with calf birth weights, respectively.

OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore the predictive value of microRNA (miR)-125a and miR-125b for sepsis risk, and their correlations with inflammation, disease severity, and 28-day mortality in sepsis patients. METHODS Totally, 150 sepsis patients and 150 healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled. Plasma samples were separated from blood samples obtained from sepsis patients and HCs to detect miR-125a and miR-125b expressions by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Besides, the 28-day mortality of sepsis patients was assessed. MiR-125a and miR-125b expressions were elevated in sepsis patients compared with HCs, and further receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve analysis displayed that miR-125a (area under the curve (AUC): 0.749, 95% CI: 0.695-0.803) and miR-125b (AUC: 0.839, 95% CI: 0.795-0.882) could predict sepsis risk. As for inflammation, no correlation of miR-125a with C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-17, and IL-23 was observed in sepsis patients, while miR-125b was positively associated with CRP, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-17, and IL-23. Regarding disease severity, miR-125a and miR-125b were positively correlated with acute physiology and chronic health care evaluation II and sequential organ failure assessment score in sepsis patients. Besides, ROC curve analysis exhibited that miR-125a failed to predict 28-day mortality risk (AUC: 0.588, 95% CI: 0.491-0.685) in sepsis patients, while miR-125b had a potential value in predicting elevated 28-day mortality risk (AUC: 0.699, 95% CI: 0.603-0.795). CONCLUSION Both miR-125a and miR-125b predict sepsis risk, while only miR-125b exhibits the potency for disease management and prognosis prediction in sepsis patients.

Abstract
Objective This study was conducted to explore the association of microRNA (miR)‐125a and miR‐125b with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) risk and to investigate their correlation with clinical characteristics and prognosis in sepsis patients. Methods Totally 150 sepsis patients admitted to our hospital were consecutively enrolled and another 150 healthy subjects were enrolled as healthy controls (HCs). Their blood samples were collected for miR‐125a and miR‐125b detection by real‐time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Besides, ARDS occurrence and 28‐day mortality were documented in all sepsis patients. Results MiR‐125a and miR‐125b relative expressions were increased in ARDS‐sepsis patients/non‐ARDS‐sepsis patients compared with HCs, while only miR‐125b but not miR‐125a was elevated in ARDS‐sepsis patients compared with non‐ARDS‐sepsis patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve presented that miR‐125a (AUC: 0.650, 95%CI: 0.549‐0.750) and miR‐125b (AUC: 0.739, 95%CI: 0.653‐0.823) could differentiate ARDS‐sepsis patients from non‐ARDS‐sepsis patients, and miR‐125b was of increased predictive value compared with miR‐125a numerically. In sepsis patients, miR‐125a relative expression was positively associated with serum creatinine (Scr), chronic health evaluation (APACHE) II score, sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score, and miR‐125b was positively associated with Scr, C‐reactive protein (CRP), APACHE II score, SOFA score, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. All sepsis patients were categorized into survivors and deaths according to 28‐day mortality, and miR‐125b but not miR‐125a was upregulated in deaths compared with survivors. Conclusion Both of miR‐125a and miR‐125b predict ARDS risk, while only miR‐125b is of value in prognosis prediction in sepsis patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Antibodies against carbamylated protein (anti-CarP) were found to be a promising marker to evaluate joint damage and disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, whether anti-CarP antibodies were present in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) remained ambiguous. We have therefore undertaken this study to assess the levels of serum anti-CarP antibodies and to evaluate their clinical value in SLE. METHODS Serum levels of antibodies against carbamylated-vimentin (anti-Carp) were measured by enzyme immunosorbent assay in 100 patients with SLE, 76 with RA, 17 with primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS), and 68 healthy controls. Data analyses between anti-Carp antibodies and other laboratory measures were performed using SPSS 24 software for Windows. RESULTS The levels of serum anti-CarP antibodies in patients with SLE were significantly higher than those in healthy controls. In addition, anti-CarP antibodies were present in SLE patients lacking the disease-specific antibodies, including anti-Smith-negative patients (24.4%, 21/86), anti-dsDNA-negative patients (29.3%, 12/41), anti-nucleosome-negative patients (21.4%, 9/42), and antiribosomal P protein antibody-negative patients (23.7%, 18/76). There were significant differences between the anti-CarP-positive and anti-CarP-negative SLE patients in clinical and laboratory features, such as age, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein, rheumatoid factor, third-generation cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP3), anticardiolipin, D-dipolymer, complement 3, immunoglobulin G (IgG), red blood cell count (RBC) and hemoglobin. After adjusting for age and disease duration, the high levels of anti-CarP antibodies were still correlated with low RBC, hemoglobin and high ESR, IgG and CCP3. Active SLE patients demonstrated higher anti-CarP IgG than inactive patients. Moreover, the levels of anti-CarP were significantly higher in SLE patients with arthralgia and/or arthritis than in those without joint involvement. CONCLUSIONS Anti-CarP antibodies were present in SLE patients and associated with the disease severity. These might provide a potential supplement to other specific autoantibodies for diagnosis of SLE and serve as a promising marker for measuring joint damage in the disease.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Malnutrition of vitamin A (retinol) and vitamin E (α-tocopherol, α-TOH) was observed in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) or dementia patients. However, how these vitamins affect cognitive function of subjects with T2DM was seldom reported. The objective of this study was to determine the association of circulating retinol and α-TOH with cognition in aging subjects with T2DM. METHODS A total of 448 T2DM subjects and 448 age, gender and education matched control subjects (aged 55-75 years) were included in the study. Demographic characters of the participants were collected. Food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) method was used to collect dietary intake information. To assess the status of cognition, the MoCA test was used. Circulating retinol and α-TOH levels were compared between T2DM and non-T2DM subjects. Correlation of circulating retinol and α-TOH levels with cognitive function was analyzed in T2DM subjects. The effect of serum retinol and α-TOH levels on the risk of MCI in T2DM patients was explored. RESULTS We found that T2DM-MCI subjects demonstrate lower serum retinol level than T2DM-nonMCI subjects (P < 0.01). Serum retinol level was positively correlated to cognitive function in T2DM subject (P < 0.05). T2DM subjects with higher circulating retinol level demonstrate higher cognitive scores in visual and executive, attention, language, memory and delayed recall domains (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Diminished circulating retinol predicts an increased risk of MCI in T2DM patients. Our findings provide suggestions that optimal retinol nutritional status might benefit cognition and decrease the risk of MCI in aging subjects with T2DM.

Abstract
A simple polymerization process assisted with UV light for preparing a novel flexible polyelectrolyte-based gel polymer electrolyte (PGPE) is reported. Due to the existence of charged groups in the polyelectrolyte matrix, the PGPE exhibits favorable mechanical strength and excellent ionic conductivity (66.8 mS cm−1 at 25 °C). In addition, the all-solid-state supercapacitor fabricated with a PGPE membrane and activated carbon electrodes shows outstanding electrochemical performance. The specific capacitance of the PGPE supercapacitor is 64.92 F g−1 at 1 A g−1, and the device shows a maximum energy density of 13.26 W h kg−1 and a maximum power density of 2.26 kW kg−1. After 10 000 cycles at a current density of 2 A g−1, the all-solid-state supercapacitor with PGPE reveals a capacitance retention of 94.63%. Furthermore, the specific capacitance and charge–discharge behaviors of the flexible PGPE device hardly change with the bending states. Post-traumatic tetanus is the main type of non-neonatal tetanus. To reduce the incidence and mortality rate of tetanus and guide the primary medical institutions to prevent and control tetanus after trauma, National Immunization Planning Technical Working Group of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention has compiled this document in the reference with Position Paper by World Health Organization, the latest research progress from home and abroad. The guidelines focus on the basic procedures for the prevention and disposition of post-traumatic tetanus, the application of tetanus vaccines and immune preparation, and the pre-exposure immunization in high-risk populations of trauma.

Abstract
Objectives The objective of this study was to investigate the association of four single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the cannabinoid receptor 2 (CNR2) gene, gene-obesity interaction, and haplotype combination with osteoporosis (OP) susceptibility. Methods Chinese patients with OP were recruited between March 2011 and December 2015 from our hospital. In this study, a total of 1267 post-menopausal female patients (631 OP patients and 636 control patients) were selected. The mean age of all subjects was 69.2 years (sd 15.8). A generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR) model and logistic regression model were used to examine the interaction between SNP and obesity on OP. For OP patient-control haplotype analyses, the SHEsis online haplotype analysis software (http://analysis.bio-x.cn/) was employed. Results The logistic regression model revealed that the C allele of rs2501431 and the G allele of rs3003336 were associated with increased OP risk, compared with those with wild genotype. However, no significant correlations were found when analyzing the association of rs4237 and rs2229579 with OP risk. The GMDR analysis suggested that the interaction model composed of two factors, rs3003336 and abdominal obesity (AO), was the best model with statistical significance (p-value from sign test (Psign) = 0.012), indicating a potential gene-environment interaction between rs3003336 and AO. Overall, the two-locus models had a cross-validation consistency of 10/10 and had a testing accuracy of 0.641. Abdominally obese subjects with the AG or GG genotype have the highest OP risk, compared with subjects with the AA genotype and normal waist circumference (WC) (odds ratio (OR) 2.23, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.54 to 3.51). Haplotype analysis also indicated that the haplotype containing the rs3003336-G and rs2501431-C alleles was associated with a statistically increased OP risk. Conclusion Our results suggested that the C allele of rs2501431 and the G allele of rs3003336 of the CNR2 gene, interaction between rs3003336 and AO, and the haplotype containing the rs3003336-G and rs2501431-C alleles were all associated with increased OP risk. Abstract
Vaccination with a live bivalent vaccine of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is a routine practice in poultry industry in China. This study was designed to evaluate ginseng stem-leaf saponins (GSLS) in combination with selenium (Se) for their adjuvant effect on the immune response to vaccination against NDV and IBV in chickens. A live bivalent vaccine of NDV and IBV was diluted in saline solution containing GSLS or Se or both and used to immunize chickens via a intraocular-and-intranasal route. Results showed that GSLS promoted significantly higher NDV- and IBV-specific antibody responses with the highest antibody response detected in GSLS-Se group. The increased antibody was capable of neutralizing NDV and IBV. In addition, GSLS-Se enhanced lymphocyte proliferation and production of IFN-γ and IL-4. More importantly GSLS-Se was found to promote early production and prolong the duration of the antibody responses. In order to improve the efficacy of vaccination in chicken flocks, the diluent containing GSLS-Se deserves further studies to evaluate its effect on other chicken vaccines.

Abstract
A large panel of molecular biomarkers have been identified to predict the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), yet with limited clinical application due to difficult extrapolation. We here generated a genetic risk score system comprised of 12 HCC-specific genes to better predict the prognosis of HCC patients. Four genomics profiling datasets (GSE5851, GSE28691, GSE15765 and GSE14323) were searched to seek HCC-specific genes by comparisons between cancer samples and normal liver tissues and between different subtypes of hepatic neoplasms. Univariate survival analysis screened HCC-specific genes associated with overall survival (OS) in the training dataset for next-step risk model construction. The prognostic value of the constructed HCC risk score system was then validated in the TCGA dataset. Stratified analysis indicated this scoring system showed better performance in elderly male patients with HBV infection and preoperative lower levels of creatinine, alpha-fetoprotein and platelet and higher level of albumin. Functional annotation of this risk model in high-risk patients revealed that pathways associated with cell cycle, cell migration and inflammation were significantly enriched. In summary, our constructed HCC-specific gene risk model demonstrated robustness and potentiality in predicting the prognosis of HCC patients, especially among elderly male patients with HBV infection and relatively better general conditions.

Abstract
Gastric cancer is a common malignant tumor of digestive system. D2 procedure is recognized as the standard operation for advanced gastric cancer at present. However, controversies still exist in the standardization and quality control of surgical procedures. Total mesorectal excision (TME) and complete mesocolic excision (CME) based on the membrane anatomy perfectly solve these problems in the treatment for colorectal cancer. However, the complexity of mesogastrium determines that TME and CME cannot be easily transplanted to the treatment of gastric cancer. The practical membrane anatomy in gastric cancer surgery is just emerging and its impact on the treatment of gastric cancer is immeasurable. By reviewing the evolution and embryonic development of digestive system, and combining with actual operation, this paper analyzes and redefines several key issues such as traditional Toldt space, Gerota fascia and complete mesenteric excision. On this basis, we propose a novel and feasible surgical procedure named regional en bloc mesogastrium excision (rEME) for distal gastric cancer. The concept of en bloc mesogastrium excision (EME) based on membrane anatomy may have some influences on the lymph node grouping from the 'Japanese Classification of Gastric Carcinoma'. Performance of EME may reduce the controversies about the group of lymph nodes and their borders. EME in the infra-pyloric region weakens the significance of subdivision of No.6 lymph nodes into No.6a, No.6v and No.6i. More studies are needed in the construction of a mature theoretical system for practical membrane anatomy in gastric surgery.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pediatric Ewing sarcoma (ES)/primitive neuro-ectodermal tumor (PNET) occurring in the genitourinary system has been rarely reported. And the result of long-term follow-up is still a matter of debate. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to identify the characteristics, therapeutic strategies, and long-term outcomes of pediatric ES/PNET in the genitourinary system. PATIENTS AND METHODS All children with genitourinary system PNET from a single center were retrospectively reviewed. The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system was used to evaluate tumor grade. RESULTS Four patients were included. Three were boys, and 1 was a girl. The locations of the lesions were the penis in 1 patient, ureter in 1 patient, and kidney in 2 patients. Two patients were of AJCC stage IVB, and the other 2 patients were of stage IIA. In the follow-up ranging from 2.5 to 8.0 years, 3 patients had survival, and 1 patient died. The patient with penis PNET survived during the 8 years of follow-up. One patient with renal PNET had tumor thromboses in the renal vein, inferior vena cava, and right atrium, which was the first definite report in children (case 3). DISCUSSION Primitive neuro-ectodermal tumor as a highly malignant subgroup of blue round cell tumor is extremely rare in the genitourinary system, especially in children. The current case series represents the first report of penis PNET in children with the longest (8 years) follow-up and first definite report of pediatric renal PNET with vena cava and atrium tumor thrombus. In contrast to the previous literature, the patient with ureteral PNET in this study was much younger, who was the youngest child to be reported in the literature thus far. Although the key prognostic factor of the outcomes is detectable metastases at diagnosis, the patient with penis PNET and bone and lung metastasis in this series still survived. It was hypothesized from the data of present cases that young age was a protective factor, which was consistent with the previous literature. Aggressive therapy is not trivial for patients with multiple recurrences who can also be a long-term survivor. The survival outcomes of these high-stage patients were favorable with combination treatment. As the patient with penis PNET in this series had bone metastasis at his 7.5 years after definite diagnosis, five years of follow-up was not enough. The follow-up period should be extended, even to a lifetime follow-up. CONCLUSIONS Children with PNET have a better prognosis than adults. Aggressive combination treatment should be performed to improve prognosis and the survival rate. It is better to monitor the changes of the disease by extending the follow-up period.

Abstract
Growing evidence indicates that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) may be potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for many disease conditions, including cancer. In this study, we constructed a risk score system of three lncRNAs (LOC101927051, LINC00667 and NSUN5P2) for predicting the prognosis of small hepatocellular carcinoma (sHCC) (maximum tumor diameter ≤5 cm). The prognostic value of this sHCC risk model was confirmed in TCGA HCC samples (TNM stage I and II). Stratified survival analysis revealed that the suitable patient groups of the sHCC lncRNA-signature included HBV-infected and cirrhotic patients with better physical conditions yet lower levels of albumin and higher levels of alpha-fetoprotein preoperatively. Besides, Asian patients with no family history of HCC or history of alcohol consumption can be predicted more precisely. Molecular functional analysis indicated that PYK2 pathway was significantly enriched in the high-risk patients. Pathway enrichment analysis indicated that the two lncRNAs (LINC00667 and NSUN5P2) associated with poor prognosis were closely related to cell cycle. The nomogram based on the lncRNA-signature for RFS prediction in sHCC patients exhibited good performance in recurrence risk stratification. In conclusion, we identified a novel three-lncRNA-expression-based risk model for predicting the prognosis of sHCC.

Abstract
The oral cavity contains a distinct habitat that supports diverse bacterial flora. Recent observations have provided additional evidence that sRNAs are key regulators of bacterial physiology and pathogenesis. These sRNAs have been divided into 5 functional groups: cis-encoded RNAs, trans-encoded RNAs, RNA regulators of protein activity, bacterial CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat) RNAs, and a novel category of miRNA-size small RNAs (msRNAs). In this review, we discuss a critical group of key commensal and opportunistic oral pathogens. In general, supragingival bacterial sRNAs function synergistically to fine-tune the regulation of cellular processes and stress responses in adaptation to environmental changes. Particularly in the cariogenic bacteria Streptococcus mutans, both the antisense vicR RNA and msRNA1657 can impede the metabolism of bacterial exopolysaccharides, prevent biofilm formation, and suppress its cariogenicity. In Enterococcus faecalis, selected sRNAs control the expression of proteins involved in diverse cellular processes and stress responses. In subgingival plaques, sRNAs from periodontal pathogens can function as novel bacterial signaling molecules that mediate bacterial-human interactions in periodontal homeostasis. In Porphyromonas gingivalis, the expression profiles of putative sRNA101 and sRNA42 were found to respond to hemin availability after hemin starvation. Regarding Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (previously Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans), a major periodontal pathogen associated with aggressive periodontitis, the predicted sRNAs interact with several virulence genes, including those encoding leukotoxin and cytolethal distending toxin. Furthermore, in clinical isolates, these associated RNAs could be explored not only as potential biomarkers for oral disease monitoring but also as alternative types of regulators for drug design. Thus, this emerging subspecialty of bacterial regulatory RNAs could reshape our understanding of bacterial gene regulation from their key roles of endogenous regulatory RNAs to their activities in pathologic processes.

Abstract
In slow collisions of two bare nuclei with the total charge larger than the critical value Z_{cr}≈173, the initially neutral vacuum can spontaneously decay into the charged vacuum and two positrons. The detection of the spontaneous emission of positrons would be direct evidence of this fundamental phenomenon. However, the spontaneously produced particles are indistinguishable from the dynamical background in the positron spectra. We show that the vacuum decay can nevertheless be observed via impact-sensitive measurements of pair-production probabilities. The possibility of such an observation is demonstrated using numerical calculations of pair production in low-energy collisions of heavy nuclei.

Abstract
The process of a positron-bound-electron annihilation with simultaneous emission of two photons is investigated theoretically. A fully relativistic formalism based on an ab initio QED description of the process is worked out. The developed approach is applied to evaluate the annihilation of a positron with K-shell electrons of a silver atom, for which a strong contradiction between theory and experiment was previously stated. The results obtained here resolve this longstanding disagreement and, moreover, demonstrate a sizable difference with approaches so far used for calculations of the positron-bound-electron annihilation process, namely, Lee's and the impulse approximations.

Abstract
Bortezomib (BTZ) is used as a chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of multiple myeloma. Nevertheless, one of the significant limiting complications of BTZ is painful peripheral neuropathy during BTZ therapy. Thus, in this study we examined signaling pathways of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) in the sensory nerves responsible for neuropathic pain induced by BTZ and further determined if influencing the pathways can improve neuropathic pain. ELISA and western blot analysis were used to examine the levels of IL-6, and IL-6 receptor (IL-6R), TRPA1 and p38-MAPK and JNK signal in the lumbar dorsal root ganglion. Behavioral test was performed to determine mechanical and cold sensitivity in a rat model. Our results showed that systemic injection of BTZ increased mechanical pain and cold sensitivity as compared with control animals. Data also showed that protein expression of TRPA1 and IL-6R was upregulated in the dorsal root ganglion of BTZ rats and blocking TRPA1 attenuated mechanical and cold sensitivity in control rats and BTZ rats. Notably, the inhibitory effect of blocking TRPA1 was smaller in BTZ rats than that in control rats. In addition, a blockade of IL-6 signal attenuated intracellular p38-MAPK and JNK in the sensory neuron. This also decreased TRPA1 expression and alleviated mechanical hyperalgesia and cold hypersensitivity in BTZ rats. In conclusion, we revealed specific signaling pathways leading to neuropathic pain induced by chemotherapeutic BTZ, including IL-6-TRPA1, suggesting that blocking these signals is beneficial to alleviate neuropathic pain during BTZ intervention.

Abstract
Objective:The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between the onset of different types of sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSNHL) with temperature parameters and seasons. Method:We retrospectively reviewed the medical charts of 175 patients who were diagnosed as SSNHL, precisely collected the exact date and city of onset, confirmed the season, and obtained the meteorological data including maximum temperature(Tmax), minimum temperature(Tmin), mean temperature(T), day-to-day change of mean temperature(ΔT), and diurnal temperature range(Trange) at the same day, then analyzed the relation between season and temperature with the onset of different types of SSNHL. Result:There was a significant difference of Trange between different types of SSNHL(P=0.001). Trange on the onset date of all-frequency SSNHL(including flat and profound type) was significantly higher than low and high frequency descending type(P=0.001, P<0.05 respectively). Types of SSNHL had weak association with Trange groups(P=0.03, Cramer's V=0.220). An increase of 1℃ in Trange increased the risk of flat type SSNHL by 23.9% and 16.5% compared with low and high frequency descending type, respectively, and for profound type, the risk was increased by 22.4% and 15.1%. No significant differences were observed between seasons and SSNHL types(P=0.666). Conclusion:The incidence of different types of sudden sputum may be related to the worse temperature on the day, and has nothing to do with the disease season.

Abstract
Objectives: The discovery of alternative and well-tolerated anti-arthritic drugs, especially from natural products, is becoming an area of active research. Pedunculoside (PE) is a novel triterpene saponin extracted from the dried bark of Ilex rotunda Thunb. Limited published papers have reported its pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory, anti-myocardial ischaemia, anti-liver injury, and hypocholesterolaemic activities. However, the effect of PE on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) remains unknown. Here, we investigated the anti-arthritic effect of PE in both in vitro and in vivo models. Method: The inhibitory effects of PE on proliferation, migration, and production of inflammatory mediators in primary fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs) were examined by a 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine incorporation assay, wound-healing assay, and real-time polymerase chain reaction, respectively. Cellular signalling mechanisms were analysed by Western blot. The in vivo studies were performed using a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rat model. Multiple methods, including arthritis scoring, enzyme-linked immunoassay, radiography, and histopathological assessment, were used to evaluate the therapeutic effects of PE on CIA rats. Results: The in vitro studies revealed that PE significantly inhibited proliferation and migration of FLSs. PE also decreased the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6, IL-8, and tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Western blot results suggested that PE suppressed TNF-α-stimulated activation of p38 and extracellular signal-regulated kinase. The in vivo studies showed that PE treatment significantly inhibited synovial inflammation and bone destruction in CIA rats. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that PE exerts an inhibitory role in FLSs and CIA rats, and therefore may have therapeutic value for the treatment of RA.
