Abstract
Using (106±4)×10⁻⁶ ψ(3686) events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII e⁺e⁻ collider, we present the first measurement of decays of χ(c1) to vector meson pairs φφ, ωω, and ωφ. The branching fractions are measured to be (4.4±0.3±0.5)×10⁻⁴, (6.0±0.3±0.7)×10⁻⁴, and (2.2±0.6±0.2)×10⁻⁵, for χ(c1)→φφ, ωω, and ωφ, respectively, which indicates that the hadron helicity selection rule is significantly violated in χ(cJ) decays. In addition, the measurement of χ(cJ)→ωφ provides the first indication of the rate of doubly OZI-suppressed χ(cJ) decay. Finally, we present improved measurements for the branching fractions of χ(c0) and χ(c2) to vector meson pairs.

Abstract
With a sample of (225.2±2.8)×10(6) J/ψ events registered in the BESIII detector, J/ψ→γπ(+)π(-)η(') is studied using two η(') decay modes: η(')→π(+)π(-)η and η(')→γρ(0). The X(1835), which was previously observed by BESII, is confirmed with a statistical significance that is larger than 20σ. In addition, in the π(+)π(-)η(') invariant-mass spectrum, the X(2120) and the X(2370), are observed with statistical significances larger than 7.2σ and 6.4σ, respectively. For the X(1835), the angular distribution of the radiative photon is consistent with expectations for a pseudoscalar.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although most patients with gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) are cured by conventional chemotherapy, some develop drug resistance or relapse. The use of new combination drugs has been studied to treat those with resistant or relapsed disease. We evaluated the results of floxuridine, dactinomycin, etoposide, and vincristine (FAEV) chemotherapy in patients with relapsed/chemoresistant GTN. PATIENTS AND METHODS Clinical data and outcome of the patients with relapsed/chemoresistant GTN from 1 January 2005 to 30 June 2008 were retrospectively reviewed. Eligible patients had received at least one cycle of FAEV chemotherapy. The primary end points were response rate and toxicity of FAEV regimen; the secondary end point was assessment of clinical predictors of response. RESULTS In total, 91 patients were included. Fifty-five of these patients (60.4%) achieved serologic complete remission (SCR), 29 patients had no response, 7 patients experienced recurrent grade ≥3 or intolerable toxicity. SCR of FAEV chemotherapy was significantly associated with number of previous chemotherapy regimens (≤2) in multivariate analysis (P = 0.005). The most serious adverse events were greater than or equal to grade 3 neutropenia (26.4%), febrile neutropenia (6.6%), and greater than or equal to grade 3 thrombocytopenia (3.3%). CONCLUSION FAEV is an effective regimen with manageable toxicity for patients with relapsed/chemoresistant GTN. Further studies of this regimen are warranted.

Abstract
The decays ψ'→γπ(0), γη and γη' are studied using data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII e(+)e(-) collider. The processes ψ'→γπ(0) and ψ'→γη are observed for the first time with signal significances of 4.6σ and 4.3σ, respectively. The branching fractions are determined to be B(ψ'→γπ(0))=(1.58±0.40±0.13)×10(-6), B(ψ'→γη)=(1.38±0.48±0.09)×10(-6), and B(ψ'→γη')=(126±3±8)×10(-6), where the first errors are statistical and the second ones systematic.

Abstract
We present measurements of the charmonium state h(c)(1P(1)) made with 106x10(6) psi' events collected by BESIII at BEPCII. Clear signals are observed for psi'-->pi0 h(c) with and without the subsequent radiative decay h(c)-->gamma eta(c). First measurements of the absolute branching ratios B(psi'-->pi0 h(c)) = (8.4+/-1.3+/-1.0) x 10(-4) and B(h(c)-->gamma eta(c)) = (54.3+/-6.7+/-5.2)% are presented. A statistics-limited determination of the previously unmeasured h(c) width leads to an upper limit Gamma(h(c))<1.44 MeV (90% confidence). Measurements of M(h(c)) = 3525.40+/-0.13+/-0.18 MeV/c2 and B(psi'-->pi0 h(c)) x B(h(c)-->gamma eta(c)) = (4.58+/-0.40+/-0.50) x 10(-4) are consistent with previous results.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the menstrual, fertility and recurrent results of conservative surgery for women with recurrent borderline ovarian tumors. METHODS Six patients with recurrent borderline ovarian tumors who had conservative surgery from 2000 to 2006 were identified from the Women's hospital, Zhejiang University database. The six patients (median age, 32 years) underwent fertility-sparing surgery, preserving the uterus and at least part of one ovary. RESULTS Five patients retained normal menstrual function. Three women had successful pregnancies, with a total of three live births and one abortion. The spontaneous pregnancy rate was 50%. The mean duration of follow-up was 32 months (range, 6-72); one of the six patients with recurrent borderline ovarian tumors developed recurrence once more. However no disease-related deaths occurred. CONCLUSIONS The second conservative surgery for patients with recurrent borderline ovarian tumors should still be considered for women who are young and desire preservation of fertility. The spontaneous pregnancy rate is satisfactory. However, careful follow-up is needed to detect recurrent disease.

Abstract
The incidence of esophageal cancer (EC), especially adenocarcinoma, has increased tremendously in Western countries and the prognosis of EC remains poor. Paeonol (Pae), a phenolic component from the root bark of Paeonia moutan, possesses antitumor effects in vitro and in vivo. The present study showed that Pae had an antiproliferative effect on the two human EC cell lines (SEG-1 and Eca-109), with different sensitivities to Pae. Acridine orange staining and flow cytometry assays showed that Pae induced apoptosis on the two cell lines. Further analyses indicated that Pae resulted in a cell cycle arrest at S-phase. Immunohistochemical staining showed the expression of Bcl-2 was decreased and that of Bax was increased in treatment groups, with the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax decreased correspondingly. The results show that Pae shows growth inhibitory and apoptosis induction property and may be a promising agent for the EC treatment.

Abstract
The decays of J/psi --> etaphif(0)(980)[eta --> gammagamma, phi --> K(+) K(-), f(0)(980) --> pi(+)pi(-)] are analyzed using a sample of 5.8 x 10(7) J/psi events collected with the BESII detector at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider. A structure at around 2.18 GeV/c(2) with about 5 sigma significance is observed in the phif(0)(980) invariant mass spectrum. A fit with a Breit-Wigner function gives the peak mass and width of m = 2.186+/-0.010(stat)+/-0.006(syst) GeV/c(2) and Gamma = 0.065+/-0.023(stat)+/-0.017(syst) GeV/c(2), respectively, which are consistent with those of Y(2175), observed by the BABAR Collaboration in the initial-state radiation process e(+)e(-) --> gamma(ISR) phif(0)(980). The production branching ratio is determined to be Br(J/psi --> etaY(2175))Br(Y(2175)- -> phif(0)(980))Br(f(0)(980) --> pi(+)pi(-)) = [3.23+/-0.75(stat)+/-0.73(syst)] x 10(-4), assuming that the Y(2175) is a 1(--) state.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The increase in the incidence of non-melanoma skin tumours, photoaging, and immunosuppression demand for more effective sunscreen on ultraviolet A (UVA) irradiation. OBJECTIVES The aim of the study is to evaluate the photoprotective effects of a bacterial-derived melanin against UVA-induced damages in vitro and in vivo. Methods Human fibroblasts were used to assess the role of the bacterial-derived melanin on cell viability against UVA. 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay and nuclear morphology were employed to evaluate the photoprotection at the cellular level. Fluorometric assays were performed to detect the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the cells. Evaluations of the bacterial-derived melanin as a sunscreen were measured by transmission test and persistent pigment darkening on human skin. RESULTS Bacterial-derived melanin efficiently scavenged ROS in the fibroblasts after UVA irradiation. The cell viability of xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) fibroblast treated with varied doses of melanin increased dramatically in comparison with untreated control and the treated XP fibroblasts became more resistant to UVA-induced apoptosis than normal fibroblasts. Although the relative transmission didn't change too much with different concentration of bacterial-derived melanin, this melanin could keep UVA-irradiated skin from pigment darkening and act as an active sunscreen on skin. CONCLUSIONS The bacterial-derived melanin provided significant protection to fibroblast cell and human skin against the UVA radiation. It has the potential to be developed as an active sunscreen for the patients with photosensitivity skin to sun exposure.

Abstract
In the companion article a local electrovascular coupling (LEVC) model was proposed to explain the continuous dynamics of electrical and vascular states within a cortical unit. These states produce certain mesoscopic reflections whose discrete time series can be reconstructed from electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). In this article we develop a recursive optimization algorithm based on the local linearization (LL) filter and an innovation method to make statistical inferences about the LEVC model from both EEG and fMRI data, i.e., to estimate the unobserved states and the unknown parameters of the model. For a better understanding, the LL filter is described from a Bayesian point of view, providing the particulars for the case of hybrid data (e.g., EEG and fMRI), which could be sampled at different rates. The dynamics of the exogenous synaptic inputs going into the cortical unit are also estimated by introducing a set of Gaussian radial basis functions. In order to study the dynamics of the electrical and vascular states in the striate cortex of humans as well as their local interrelationships, we applied this algorithm to EEG and fMRI recordings obtained concurrently from two subjects while passively observing a radial checkerboard with a white/black pattern reversal. The EEG and fMRI data from the first subject was used to estimate the electrical/vascular states and parameters of the LEVC model in V1 for a 4.0 Hz reversion frequency. We used the EEG data from the second subject to investigate the changes in the dynamics of the electrical states when the frequency of reversion is varied from 0.5-4.0 Hz. Then we made use of the estimated electrical states to predict the effects on the vasculature that such variations produce.

Abstract
To investigate whether PTEN can augment doxorubicin-induced apoptosis in PTEN-null Ishikawa cells. We previously demonstrated that Ishikawa cells do not possess functional PTEN protein because of protein truncations. Clones expressing the steady-state level of the PTEN protein from PTEN-null Ishikawa cells have been established and were used in this study. Doxorubicin is a commonly used anticancer drug in endometrial carcinoma. The cytotoxic effect of doxorubicin was evaluated using the methyl thiazoleterazolium (MTT) assay. We used the Hoechst 33258 staining to confirm the induction of apoptosis. Immunoprecipitation and Western blot analysis were performed to evaluate the effects of doxorubicin on phosphorylation of Bcl-2 antagonist of cell death (Bad) and protein kinase B (Akt/PKB). Doxorubicin induced death of all cell lines in a dose-dependent manner, but the death was more significant in PTEN-expressing clones than in parent Ishikawa cells. A low concentration of doxorubicin (0.1 muM) did not affect apoptosis in PTEN-null Ishikawa cells, but it induced apoptosis in PTEN-expressing clones. A high concentration (1 microM) induced apoptosis in all cell lines, but the percentages of apoptotic cells were higher in PTEN-expressing clones than in parent Ishikawa cells. In the clones, phospho-Akt/PKB and phospho-Bad (Ser-136) were downregulated. Doxorubicin reduced the levels of phospho-Akt/PKB and phospho-Bad (Ser-136) in all the cell lines, but the reduction was most significant in the PTEN-expressing clones. Our present results indicate that PTEN transfection significantly enhances doxorubicin chemosensitivity through effective induction of apoptosis by downregulation of the PI3K/Akt/PKB signaling pathway in Ishikawa cells.

Abstract
Extrauterine choriocarcinoma is a rare form of gestational trophoblastic tumor. Extrauterine choriocarcinoma of the greater omentum is extremely rare in the literature. A 24-year-old female with irregular vaginal bleeding, mimicking as ectopic pregnancy, underwent emergency exploratory laparotomy and local excision of the greater omentum mass. The serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin level decreased rapidly after operation; however, it rose up again before long. Pathology showed choriocarcinoma in the greater omentum. No evidence showed lesions on uterus. No other metastasis was found. Multiple courses of combined chemotherapy were effective for this case. Surgical excision and combined chemotherapy were effective for extrauterine choriocarcinoma of the greater omentum.

Abstract
Rapamycin and several analogs, such as CCI-779 and RAD001, are currently undergoing clinical evaluation as anticancer agents. In this study, we show that inhibition of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling by rapamycin leads to an increase of Akt phosphorylation in Rh30 and RD human rhabdomyosarcoma cell lines and xenografts, and insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-II-treated C2C12 mouse myoblasts and IGF-II-overexpressing Chinese hamster ovary cells. RNA interference-mediated knockdown of S6K1 also results in an increase of Akt phosphorylation. These data suggest that mTOR/S6K1 inhibition either by rapamycin or small interfering RNA (siRNA) triggers a negative feedback loop, resulting in the activation of Akt signaling. We next sought to investigate the mechanism of this negative feedback regulation from mTOR to Akt. Suppression of insulin receptor substrate (IRS)-1 and tuberous sclerosis complex-1 by siRNAs failed to abrogate rapamycin-induced upregulation of Akt phosphorylation in both Rh30 and RD cells. However, pretreatment with h7C10 antibody directed against insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) led to a blockade of rapamycin-induced Akt activation. Combined mTOR and IGF-1R inhibition with rapamycin and h7C10 antibody, respectively, resulted in additive inhibition of cell growth and survival. These data suggest that rapamycin mediates Akt activation through an IGF-1R-dependent mechanism. Thus, combining an mTOR inhibitor and an IGF-1R antibody/inhibitor may be an appropriate strategy to enhance mTOR-targeted anticancer therapy.
