Abstract
Rabbit antibodies to the α and ε toxins of Cl. welchii have been hydrolysed with papain. It has been found that in some sera there is a loss of molar antitoxic activity which may be as high as 50 per cent. Partial digestion with pepsin does not affect the molar antitoxic activity. Reaction with anti-globulin sera increases the antitoxic activity of the digested globulins. It is suggested that the changes in activity are due to changes in the effective size of the antitoxic molecules and a consequent variation in the extent of steric inhibition of the toxins.
