A 201T1 perfusion defect in a case with rate-dependent left bundle-branch block (LBBB)

We present a case report of a 67-year-old woman with rate-dependent left bundle-branch block (LBBB). Although coronary angiography demonstrated no significant obstructive lesions, a reversible focal defect developed on 201T1 myocardial scintigraphy when LBBB was induced by right-atrial pacing.

Glycosphingolipids of porcine pancreas

Neutral and acidic glycosphingolipids were purified from porcine pancreas by chromatography on columns of DEAE-Sephadex and Iatrobeads. The chemical structures of the purified glycolipids were determined by carbohydrate analysis, methylation analysis, enzyme treatment, fatty acid analysis, NMR and IR. The major glycolipid of porcine pancreas was Gal(alpha,1-4)Gal(beta,1-)ceramide. Gangliosides GM3 and GD3 were major acidic components and galactosylceramide 3-sulfate was also found.

A case of ovarian dermoid cyst with malignant transformation perforated into the rectosigmoid colon and small intestine

A 72-year-old female was admitted to hospital with diarrhea containing hair. The abdominal plain film showed teeth-like structures in the right lower quadrant. Barium enema and endoscopic examination were performed, and the results indicated a possible dermoid cyst perforated into the rectosigmoid colon and small intestine. The operation revealed a dermoid cyst of the right ovary perforated into the rectosigmoid colon and small intestine. Histopathologically, a dermoid cyst and in part well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma invading the rectosigmoid and small intestine were demonstrated.

The effects of epinephrine, norepinephrine, and phenylephrine on the types of proteins secreted by rat salivary glands

The types of proteins secreted by rat submandibular glands in response to secretory stimulation with epinephrine, norepinephrine, or phenylephrine were dose-dependent. At relatively high doses the proteins secreted were characteristic of alpha-adrenergic stimulation, whereas at low doses they were characteristic of beta-adrenergic stimulation.

Arrythmias and ischemic changes of the heart induced by gastric endoscopic procedures

Changes in the heart rate, blood pressure, ECG, occurring at the time of endoscopy of the stomach were studied in a group of 59 cases of cardiovascular disease and in a control group of 27 cases. With regard to arrythmias appearing at the time of endoscopy of the stomach, ventricular and atrial premature beats were the most numerous. Atrial fibrillation, as well as ventricular bigeminy were encountered. Two cases of atrial fibrillation continued even after the end of the examination. ST-T changes during endoscopy were found most frequently in the ischemic heart disease group and the valvular heart disease group. There were three cases in which severe ST depression made it necessary to stop the examination. The cardiovascular changes generally occurred at the beginning of the endoscopy examination. Two milligrams of propranolol i.v. seemed to be effective in preventing changes of heart rate.
