Abstract
Sex cord-stromal (gonadal stromal) tumors of the testis account for less than 4 per cent of the testicular tumors. The Leydig cell tumor in a child may produce isosexual virilization (case 3). In the adult it may have no endocrine manifestation (case 1) or gynecomastia and decrease in libidio may result from production of estrogens (case 2). Sertoli cell tumors (case 4) and granulosa cell tumors (case5) are rare.

Abstract
Two cases of pure Sertoli cell tumors of the ovary are presented. The tumors were grey to brown and generally solid, but with several cystic areas. They showed a highly differentiated, but variable, histologic patterns with solid cords of neoplastic cells, as well as tubular formations. Ultrastructurally, the basal part of the cells rested on a nonfibrillary basement membrane layer while the free border showed occasional cilia. Laterally, the cells showed tight junctions and desmosomes. Abundant rough endoplasmic reticulum and some cystically dilated smooth endoplasmic reticulum were evident. The theories regarding the histogenesis are discussed. Enough similarities, both by light and by electron microscopy, are presented between these tumors and the Sertoli cell to justify classifying these ovarian tumors as Sertoli cell in type. The development of cilia is considered to be a manifestation of focal metaplasia of the neoplastic Sertoli cell.

Abstract
A syndrome of male pseudohermaphroditism, cryptorchidism, and testicular neoplasia was diagnosed in 3 Miniature Schnauzers. The dogs had clinical signs of hyperestrogenism and were either unilateral or bilateral cryptorchids. At surgery, it was discovered that the dogs were male pseudohermaphrodites, having intra-abdominal testes containing Sertoli cell tumors and uteri that had undergone endometrial cystic hyperplasia.

Abstract
A case of an unusual, histologically atypical, bilateral Sertoli cell tumor of testis, in association with masculinization and feminization effects, that occurring in a 5-year-old boy, is presented. Although Sertoli cell tumors are not infrequent, this case is morphologically and endocrinologically unique.

Abstract
Our knowledge of the morphology and pathogenesis of malignant neoplasms of the female genital tract has traditionally depended heavily on their light microscopic characteristics. The introduction of transmission, and most recently, scanning electron microscopy, into the field of gynecologic pathology has resulted in a considerable improvement in the diagnosis of genital cancers that are difficult to classify and has provided valuable information for a better understanding of their subcellular dynamics and pathogenetic development. This paper describes and illustrates the ultrastructural alterations that are considered specific for the most common malignant and potentially malignant neoplasms of the genital system in this context. The value of electron microscopy in the morphologic study of genital cancers warrants its increased use in routine diagnostic pathology, as well as further evaluation of it in basic research in this challenging area of investigation.

Abstract
Fifty-one patients with granulosa-cell tumors and nine patients with Sertoli-Leydig-cell tumors have been treated at the M. D. Anderson Hospital. The most important prognostic finding was the stage of the tumor when first seen. Conservative surgery was utilized in young patients with lesions confined to one ovary. More advanced tumors were treated with maximal tumor resection and postoperative treatment with either irradiation or chemotherapy. Postoperative radiation was given when the tumor capsule had ruptured or residual tumor less than 2 cm. in diameter was present after surgery. Single-agent chemotherapy was ineffective in ovarian stromal tumors, but combination chemotherapy was found to be effective in advanced or recurrent stromal tumors. Actinomycin-D, 5-fluorouracil, and cyclophosphamide were effective in granulosa-cell tumors. Vincristine, actinomycin-D, and cyclophosphamide were effective in Sertoli-Leydig--cell tumors.

Abstract
In the so-called Sertoli cell syndrome nearly always club shaped invaginations of the basement tubule membrane with intact cellule membrane can be seen. These protuberatons ultrastructurally prove to be multiplicated piles of the lamina densa of the basement membrane. The cells in the Sertoli cell syndrome show a quantitatively and qualitatively reduced pattern of enzymes in contrast with the active Sertoli cells.

The clinical and pathological features of testicular torsion in 13 dogs are reviewed. The affected gonads were intra-abdominal in 11 animals, and inguinal and scrotal respectively in two others. In most cases, the torsion appeared to result from neoplastic enlargement of the testis.

Abstract
Tumours of the testis are common in dogs, uncommon in other domestic animals. Leydig cell tumours, Sertoli cell tumours, and seminomas occur with similar frequencies and not uncommonly in the same testis. Dogs with Sertoli cell tumours may develop female characteristics and become sexually attractive to other males. It is unusual for testicular tumours in dogs to metastasize. Various histological types within the three main categories are described.

Abstract
Testicular neoplasms with a cumulative incidence of about 25% occurred in the androgen insensitive pseudohermaphroditic (Ps) rat by 20 months of age. Tumors contained germ cells, Sertoli cells and Leydig cells. The tumor Leydig cells were histochemically similar to the Leydig cells of the Ps testis. The tumors metabolized pregnenolone-414C at a slower rate than the Ps testes but the patterns of steroid metabolites were similar; both the tumors and the Ps testes have a defective 17Β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase when compared to normal testes. The similarity of the tumors in Ps rat and in patients with testicular feminization was reviewed.
