Abstract
A catalyst-, oxidant-free and green synthetic route for direct access to a series of novel imidazopyridine-linked coumarins has been devised through tandem C(sp2)-H functionalization/decarboxylation reaction in ethyl acetate as a sustainable medium. Moreover, the utilities of ensured products in further organic synthesis were conducted by Suzuki-Miyaura and Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions. The fluorescence characteristics of the produced molecules are appropriate, and the synthesized scaffolds could promisingly garner future attention in clinical diagnostics and bioimaging research.

Abstract
Coumarin is a privilege scaffold in medicinal chemistry. Coumarin derivatives are still an emerging class of highly potent pharmaceutical drugs, best known in the field of antimicrobials and anticoagulants. Thiocoumarins are a particular class of coumarins in which one or two of the oxygen atoms are replaced by a sulfur. They are chemically subdivided in three groups: Thiocoumarins, 2-thioxocoumarins, and dithiocoumarins. This review emphasizes the rationale behind the synthesis and biological applications of the most relevant publications related to this family of compounds. Particular attention has been given to their potential as drug candidates, with particular emphasis in the last 5 years. This article is based on the most relevant information collected from multiple electronic databases, including SciFinder, Pubmed, Espacenet, and Mendeley.

Abstract
Doubly decarboxylative, photoredox synthesis of 4-substituted-chroman-2-ones and 2-substituted-chroman-4-ones is described. The reaction involves two independent decarboxylation processes: the first one initiating the cycle and the second completing the process. Visible light, photoredox catalyst, base, anhydrous solvent and inert atmosphere constitute the key parameters for the success of the developed transformation. The protocol proved applicable for coumarin-3-carboxylic acids and chromone-3-carboxylic acids as well as N-(acyloxy)phthalimide which served as precursors of the corresponding alkyl radicals. Abstract
Inspired by the chemistry and biology of hexahydroxanthones, herein we report an organocatalytic Michael-Michael-Aldol-decarboxylation reaction that provides efficient access to biologically interesting fully substituted hexahydroxanthones bearing six contiguous stereogenic centers from readily accessible materials in acceptable yields (up to 63%) and excellent stereoselectivities (up to 10 : 1 dr and >99% ee). In other words, the reaction efficiently produces three chemical bonds and up to six vicinal stereogenic centers in a one-pot operation. In particular, to our knowledge, this is an asymmetric organocatalytic strategy enabling the first construction of six vicinal stereogenic centers on non-spirocyclic hexahydroxanthone frameworks.

Abstract
A method for the synthesis of diverse polysubstituted quinolines from readily available acrylic acids and anthranils has been developed. The weakly coordinating -COOH directing group, which can be tracelessly removed in the cascade cyclization, is essential for this reaction. Diverse polysubstituted quinolines were obtained under mild reaction conditions with simple H2O and CO2 as byproducts. More importantly, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroacridine, which is the core skeleton of tacrine (an Alzheimer's disease drug), was conveniently synthesized.

Abstract
Coumarin-3-formylpyrazoles have been synthesized and applied as 3-carbon synthons in reaction with 3-hydroxyoxindoles by using DABCO as the catalyst. A range of structurally diverse spiro-fused pentacyclic spirooxindoles, bearing a spirooxindole-γ-lactone and a 3,4-dihydrocoumarin substructure, could be smoothly obtained in good to excellent yields (up to 99%) with excellent diastereoselectivities (all cases >20 : 1 dr). The asymmetric version of this tandem reaction was preliminarily investigated by using chiral organocatalysts.

Abstract
Inspired by the chemistry and biology of chromone and oxindole derivatives, herein we report the first example of thermal-mediated [1,3]-hydrogen transfer as the key step for the efficient synthesis of oxindole-chromone hybrid collections 2, which avoids additional catalyst and solvent conditions. All the oxindole-chromones 2 are smoothly obtained in >99% yields in all cases, avoiding column chromatography purification. In particular, the products 2 can act as potential synthons for further elaboration in structural diversity, which might be valuable in organic and medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
In this manuscript, a novel, decarboxylative Michael reaction between α-substituted azlactones and chromone-3-carboxylic acids is described. The reaction proceeds in a sequence Michael addition followed by decarboxylative deprotonation, and it results in the formation of chromanones bearing an azlactone structural unit. The possibility of transforming an azlactone moiety into a protected α,α-disubstituted α-amino acid derivative is also demonstrated.

Abstract
The organocatalytic dearomative [4 + 2] cycloadditions of biomass-derived 2,5-dimethylfuran with ortho-quinone methides were developed, affording two diffferent types of multisubstituted chromanes in high yields and excellent diastereoselectivities. The controllable synthesis of these two types of multisubstituted chromanes could be achieved by succinctly varying the reaction conditions.

Abstract
Dipivaloylketene (2) is obtained by flash vacuum pyrolysis of furan-2,3-dione 6 and dimerizes to 1,3-dioxin-4-one 3, which is a stable but reactive ketene. The transannular addition and rearrangement of enols formed by the addition of nucleophiles to the ketene function in 3 generates axially chiral 2,6,9-trioxabicyclo[3.3.1]nonadienes (bisdioxines) 4. When arylamines are used as the nucleophiles under neutral conditions, decarboxylation occurs during the formation of bisdioxines 8. However, when water or alcohols are added to 3 under acidic conditions, bisdioxine-carboxylic acids and esters 10 and 11 are obtained. Acid hydrolysis of the bisdioxines proceeds through the addition of water to a C=C double bond and results in a second transannular oxa-Michael-type reaction and generation of tetraoxaadamantanes 5. This reaction is decarboxylative when free carboxylic acid functions are present in the bisdioxines, thus forming 21 and 22, but carboxylic acid derivatives are preserved to yield compounds 20, 23, 25, 28, and 29. A hydrogenolysis of the dibenzyl ester 23 yields the free dicarboxylic acid 24. The tetraoxaadamantanes are formed in high yields (65–95%) in most cases, but the addition of water to the concave inside of the bisdioxines becomes severely hindered in cyclic derivatives, so that the 38-membered ring compound 32 requires microwave heating at 170 °C to form tetraoxaadamantane 33, and the catenated compound 36 and calix[6]arene derivative 37 did not form tetraoxaadamantanes. The reaction mechanisms of bisdioxine and tetraoxaadamantane formation are discussed.

Abstract
The first transition-metal free and regioselective C(sp3)-H arylation of 2-alkylazaarenes with nitroarenes has been achieved via t-BuOK-mediated dehydrogenative C(sp3)-C(sp2) coupling. This reaction provides an efficient access to the biologically important and synthetically useful 2-benzyl-substituted azaarenes under mild conditions without the need of prefunctionalization of 2-alkylazaarenes or using the specialized arylating agents.
