Abstract
A single-step synthesis, structural characterization and application of a neutral, acetonitrile ligated, palladium-phosphinesulfonate complex [{P∧O}PdMe(L)] (P∧O = κ2-P,O-Ar2PC6H4SO2O with Ar = 2-MeOC6H4; L = CH3CN) (3) in coordination/insertion copolymerization of ethylene with difunctional olefin is investigated. In a significant development, complex 3 was found to catalyze insertion copolymerization of industrially relevant 1,1-disubstituted difunctional vinyl monomers for the first time. Thus, insertion copolymerization of ethyl-2-cyanoacrylate (ECA or super glue) and trifluoromethyl acrylic acid (TFMAA) with ethylene produced the corresponding copolymers with 6.5% ECA and 3% TFMAA incorporation. Increasing the concentration of difunctional olefins led to higher incorporation but at the expense of lower activities. These observations indicate that complex 3 tolerates difunctional vinyl monomers and provides direct access to difunctional polyolefins that have not been attempted before.

Abstract
This contribution reports the first chemoselective, stereospecific, and living polymerization of polar divinyl monomers, enabled by chiral ansa-zirconocenium catalysts through an enantiomorphic-site controlled coordination-addition polymerization mechanism. Silyl-bridged-ansa-zirconocenium ester enolate 2 has been synthesized and structurally characterized, but it exhibits low to negligible activity and stereospecificity in the polymerization of polar divinyl monomers including vinyl methacrylate (VMA), allyl methacrylate (AMA), 4-vinylbenzyl methacrylate (VBMA), and N,N-diallyl acrylamide (DAA). In contrast, ethylene-bridged-ansa-zirconocenium ester enolate 1 is highly active and stereospecific in the polymerization of such monomers including AMA, VBMA, and DAA. The polymerization by 1 is perfectly chemoselective for all four polar divinyl monomers, proceeding exclusively through conjugate addition across the methacrylic C═C bond, while leaving the pendant C═C bonds intact. The polymerization of DAA is most stereospecific and controlled, producing essentially stereoperfect isotactic PDAA with [mmmm] > 99%, M(n) matching the theoretical value (thus a quantitative initiation efficiency), and a narrow molecular weight distribution (Đ = 1.06-1.16). The stereospecificity is slightly lower for the AMA polymerization but still leading to highly isotactic poly(allyl methacrylate) (PAMA) with 95-97% [mm]. The polymerization of VBMA is further less stereospecific, affording PVBMA with 90-94% [mm], while the polymerization VMA is least stereospecific. Several lines of evidence from both homo- and block copolymerization results have demonstrated living characteristics of the AMA polymerization by 1. Mechanistic studies of this polymerization have yielded a monometallic coordination-addition polymerization mechanism involving the eight-membered chelating intermediate. Post-functionalization of isotactic polymers bearing the pendant vinyl group on every repeating unit via the thiol-ene "click" reaction achieves a full conversion of all the pendant double bonds to the corresponding thioether bonds. Photocuring of such isotactic polymers is also successful, producing an elastic material readily characterizable by dynamic mechanical analysis.

Abstract
A series of sterically demanding α-diimine ligands bearing electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents were synthesized by an improved synthetic procedure in high yield. Subsequently, the corresponding Pd complexes were prepared and isolated by column chromatography. These Pd complexes demonstrated unique properties in ethylene polymerization, including high thermal stability and high activity, thus generating polyethylene with a high molecular weight and very low branching density. Similar properties were observed for ethylene/methyl acrylate copolymerization. Because of the high molecular weight and low branching density, the generated polyethylene and ethylene/methyl acrylate copolymer were semicrystalline solids. The (co)polymers had unique microstructures originating from the unique slow-chain-walking activity of these Pd complexes.

Abstract
Treatment of the o-hydroxyaryl imidazolium pro-ligands (2-OH-3,5-tBu2C6H2)(R)(C3H3N2)(+)Br(-) [R = Mes (1a), Ph (1b), iPr (1c), Me (1d)] with Ag2O afforded the corresponding silver complexes 2a-d. Subsequent metal-exchange reactions of 2a-d with [Pd(OAc)(8-Me-quin-H)]2 (3) yielded the desired C(sp(3)), N-chelated and o-aryloxide-NHC-ligated palladacycle complexes 4a-d in 60-80% yields. When the N-tert-butyl substituted o-hydroxyaryl imidazolium pro-ligand 1e reacted with 3 in the presence of K2CO3 in dioxane, the palladacycle complex 4e, in which the NHC adopted an abnormal binding (C4-bonding), was obtained in 20% yield. All these complexes were fully characterized using (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra, high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), and elemental analysis. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis results further confirmed the molecular structures of 4a-c and the abnormal binding of NHC in 4e. With methylaluminoxane (MAO) as the cocatalyst these palladacycles showed excellent catalytic activities of up to 10(7) g of PNB (mol of Pd)(-1) h(-1) in the addition polymerization of norbornene.

Abstract
Insertion of diethyl vinyl phosphonates and free vinyl phosphonic acid, respectively, into [(P^O)Pd(Me)(dmso)] ((P^O) = κ(2)-P,O-Ar2PC6H4SO2O with Ar = 2-MeOC6H4) (1-dmso) occurs in a 2,1- as well as 1,2-fashion, to form a four-and a five-membered chelate [(P^O)Pd{κ(2)-C,O-CH(P(O)(OR)2)CH2CH3}] and [(P^O)Pd{κ(2)-C,O-CH2CH(P(O)(OR)2)CH3}] (R = H, Et). No decomposition or other reactions of 1 by free phosphonic acid moieties occur. Copolymerization in a pressure reactor by 1-dmso yields linear random poly(ethylene-co-diethyl vinyl phosphonate) and poly(ethylene-co-vinyl phosphonic acid). In these copolymerizations, reversible coordination of the phosphonate moieties of free monomer as well as chelate formation by incorporated monomer retards chain growth as also evidenced by relative binding studies of diethyl phosphonate towards 1. Post-polymerization emulsification of poly(ethylene-co-vinyl phosphonic acid) together with CdSe/CdS quantum dots (QDs) yields submicron (ca. 50 nm from dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM)) polymer particles with the QDs embedded in the functionalized polyethylene in a nonaggregated fashion. This embedding benefits the fluorescence behavior in terms of continuous emission and life-time as revealed by wide-field fluorescence measurements. These composite particle dispersions are employed as a ″masterbatch" together with an aqueous high density polyethylene (HDPE) dispersion to generate thin films (by spin-coating) and bulk materials (from the melt), respectively, in which the inorganic nanoparticles remain highly disperse.

Abstract
This review deals with olefin carbonylation catalysed by Pd(II)-phosphine complexes in protic solvents. In particular, the results obtained in the carbonylation with ethene are reviewed. After a short description of the basic concepts relevant to this catalysis, the review treats in greater details the influence of the bite angle, skeletal rigidity, electronic and steric bulk properties of the ligand on the formation of the products, which range from high molecular weight perfectly alternating polyketones to methyl propanoate. It is shown that the steric bulk plays a major role in directing the selectivity. Particular emphasis is given to the factors governing the very active and selective catalysis to methyl propanoate, including the mechanism of the catalytic cycles with diphosphine- and monophosphine-catalysts. A brief note on the synthesis of methyl propanoate using a “Lucite” type catalyst in ionic liquids is also illustrated. A chapter is dedicated to the carbonylation of olefins in aqueous reaction media. The nonalternating CO-ethene copolymerization is also treated.
