Abstract
We report our results concerning the first squaramide-catalysed hydrophosphonylation of aldehydes. In all cases, the reactions proceeded smoothly and cleanly under mild reaction conditions rendering final α-hydroxy phosphonates in very good yields and high enantioselectivities. It is one of the few organocatalytic examples of this reaction using aldehydes. It is the first time that diphenylphosphite (1e) has been successfully employed in a chiral Pudovik reaction with aldehydes, in contrast to the dialkylphosphites used in previously published procedures, extending the generality of this asymmetric methodology.

Abstract
Crystal structures are reported for four related diethyl [(arylamino)(4-ethynylphenyl)lmethyl]phosphonate derivatives, namely diethyl [(4-bromoanilino)(4-ethynylphenyl)methyl]phosphonate, C19H21BrNO3P, (I), diethyl ((4-chloro-2-methylanilino){4-[2-(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]phenyl}methyl)phosphonate, C23H31ClNO3PSi, (II), diethyl ((4-fluoroanilino){4-[2-(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]phenyl}methyl)phosphonate, C22H29FNO3PSi, (III), and diethyl [(4-ethynylphenyl)(naphthalen-2-ylamino)methyl]phosphonate, C23H24NO3P, (IV). The conformation of the anilinobenzyl group is very similar in all four compounds. The P—C bond has an approximately staggered conformation, with the aniline and ethynylphenyl groups ingauchepositions with respect to the P=O double bond. The two six-membered rings are almost perpendicular. The sums of the valence angles about the N atoms vary from 344 (2) to 351 (2)°. In the crystal structures, molecules of (I), (III) and (IV) are arranged as centrosymmetric or pseudocentrosymmetric dimers connected by two N—H...O=P hydrogen bonds. The molecules of (II) are arranged as centrosymmetric dimers connected by Cmethyl—H...O=P hydrogen bonds. The N—H bond of (II) is not involved in hydrogen bonding.

Abstract
The title compound, C25H22NO2P, was synthesized in high yield by a three-component Kabachnik-Fields reaction of diphenylphosphine oxide, salicylaldehyde and aniline in dry toluene at room temperature. It precipitates as racemic crystals, in which strong hydrogen bonds between the hydroxy group and the P=O group of a neighbouring molecule form one-dimensional heterochiral chains along the crystallographic a axis, with an O···O separation of 2.568 (2) Å. The pseudo-tetrahedral environment of the P atom is distorted, with O-P-C bond angles significantly larger than the C-P-C angles.

Abstract
The first general method for the reductive phosphination of amides in one pot has been developed. The reactions described provide a novel access to α-amino phosphonates in good to excellent yields, cover a broad scope of substrates such as secondary and tertiary amides, and do not require a low temperature.

Abstract
A new approach for the preparation of enantioenriched α-amino phosphonates and derivatives is described. Indeed, the rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric 1,4-addition of potassium organotrifluoroborates to dehydroaminophosphonates afforded α-amino phosphonates in good yields and high enantioselectivities (up to 96%) using Difluorphos as a chiral ligand.

Abstract
A convenient and efficient synthetic method for the preparation of some newα-aminophosphonate derivatives via a one-pot three-component system has been achieved using Amberlite IRC-748 as a recyclable catalyst. This method not only provides an excellent complement for the synthesis ofα-aminophosphonates but also avoids the use of hazardous acids or expensive/toxic Lewis acids and harsh reaction conditions. Most of the synthesized compounds (4a–o) exhibited activity against bacteria/fungi strains and moderate DPPH radical scavenging activity.

Abstract
Bis-C-pivot macrocycles containing dimethyl (1a, 2a) or diethyl phosphonate (1b, 2b) groups have been prepared by adding dimethyl or diethyl phosphite to two -CH=N bonds in corresponding dibenzo-bis-imino crown ethers (1 and 2). Bis-C-pivot macrocycles possess two equivalent stereogenic centres giving rise to diastereoisomers (meso and racemate). The structures were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, MS, TGA, DSC and NMR measurements. (1)H, (13)C and (31)P NMR assignments were made for the isolated meso form of compounds 2a and 2b and for the meso and racemic forms of compounds 1a and 1b by analysis of chemical shifts, signal intensities and splitting patterns and the DEPT and 2D HETCOR NMR techniques. Thermal analysis and (1)H NMR showed that the crystallised form of compound 1a contained an equimolar amount of water of crystallisation.

Abstract
Several fungal strains, namely Bauveria bassiana, Cuninghamella echinulata, Aspergillus fumigatus, Penicillium crustosum and Cladosporium herbarum, were used as biocatalysts to resolve racemic mixtures of 1-aminoethanephosphonic acid using L/D amino acid oxidase activity. The course of reaction was analyzed by 31P-NMR in the presence of cyclodextrin used as chiral discriminating agent. The best result (42% e.e of R-isomer) was obtained with a strain of Cuninghamella echinulata.

Abstract
A new method to synthesize chiral α-amino phosphine oxides is reported. The reaction combines N-substituted imines and diphenylphosphine oxide and is catalyzed by a chiral magnesium phosphate salt. A wide variety of aliphatic and aromatic aldimines substituted by electron-neutral benzhydryl or dibenzocycloheptene groups were excellent substrates for the addition reaction. The dibenzocycloheptene protected imines afforded improved enantioselectivity in the resulting products. Substituted diphenylphosphine oxide nucleophiles also showed good reactivity.

Abstract
A novel and highly efficient one-pot three-component synthesis of alpha-aminophosphonates under neat condition was developed. By employing this method, hybrid compounds of aminophosphonate with pyrimidine nucleosides were synthesized in good to excellent yields starting from 5-formyl-2'-deoxyuridine, aniline and dimethyl phosphite. The antiviral and antileishmanial activities of these novel hybrid compounds were also studied but none were found to be active.

Abstract
Asymmetric addition under mild conditions of dialkyl phosphites on aldimines derived from cinnamaldehyde catalyzed by the inexpensive chiral organocatalyst (R)-3,3’-[4-fluorophenyl]2-1,1’-binaphthol phosphate has been found effective to give new α-amino-phosphonates 9 in moderate yields (30–65%) and enantiomeric excess (8.4%–61.9%).

Abstract
240 Years have passed since the discovery of elemental phosphorus. During that time organophosphorus chemistry has emerged as an interesting and exciting field of research. Recently organophosphorus chemistry has been raised to a new level. Organophosphorus compounds have found applications in asymmetric organocatalysis for the synthesis of optically active compounds of synthetic or biological importance. The aim of this review article is to present recent contributions to this developing field of chemistry and to point out synthetic advantages of methodologies developed so far.

Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra from phosphonate derivatives of N-heterocyclic aromatic compounds immobilized on an electrochemically roughened silver electrode surface are reported and compared to Raman spectra of the corresponding solid species. The tested compounds contain imidazole [ImMeP ([hydroxy-(1H-imidazol-5-yl)-methyl]-phosphonic acid) and (ImMe)2P (bis[hydroxy-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)-methyl]-phosphinic acid)]; thiazole [BAThMeP ((butylamino-thiazol-2-yl-methyl)-phosphonic acid) and BzAThMeP ((benzylamino-thiazol-2-yl-methyl)-phosphonic acid)]; and pyridine ((PyMe)2P (bis[(hydroxy-pyridin-3-yl-methyl)]-phosphinic acid) aromatic rings. Changes in wavenumber, broadness, and the enhancement of N-heterocyclic aromatic ring bands upon adsorption are consistent with the adsorption primarily occurring through the N lone pair of electrons with the ring arranged in a largely edge-on manner for ImMeP and BzAThMeP or in a slightly inclined orientation to the silver electrode surface at an intermediate angle from the surface normal for (ImMe)2P, BAThMeP, and (PyMe)2P. A strong enhancement of a roughly 1500 cm(-1) SERS signal for ImMeP and (PyMe)2P is also observed. This phenomenon is attributed to the formation of a localized C=C bond, which is accompanied by a decrease in the ring-surface pi-electrons' overlap. In addition, more intense SERS bands due to the benzene ring in BzAThMeP are observed than those observed for the thiazole ring, which suggests a preferential adsorption of benzene. Some interaction of a phosphonate unit is also suggested but with moderate strength between biomolecules. The strength of the P=O coordination to the silver electrode is highest for ImMeP but lowest for BzAThMeP. For all studied biomolecules, the contribution of the structural components to their ability to interact with their receptors was correlated with the SERS patterns.
