Abstract
With the depletion of nonrenewable resources and the increasingly serious "white pollution" caused by nondegradable plastics, using renewable biomass resources such as chitin to fabricate materials is a green and sustainable pathway. Herein, for the first time, we used N/O-doped carbon nanofibrous microspheres (CNMs) derived from renewable chitin as carriers to successfully construct a highly dispersed platinum nanocatalyst via a facile way. Various physicochemical characterizations provided reliable evidence for the ultrafine and well-dispersed platinum nanoparticles with an average diameter of 2.3 nm. As the supporting framework, the CNM with interconnected nanofibrous networks and a large surface area facilitated the adhesion and dispersion of Pt particles. Meanwhile, the inherent N/O-containing functional groups and the defects in carbonized chitin could anchor the platinum tightly. The CNM/Pt catalyst was further examined for hydrogenation, and it exhibited promising catalytic activity and stability (∼5 runs, 91%) and a broad applicability. This utilization of biomass resources to build catalyst materials would be important for the green and sustainable chemistry.

Abstract
Palladium catalyzed cross-coupling reactions represent a significant advancement in contemporary organic synthesis as these reactions are of strategic importance in the area of pharmaceutical drug discovery and development. Supported palladium-based catalysts are highly sought-after in carbon-carbon bond forming catalytic processes to ensure catalyst recovery and reuse while preventing product contamination. This paper reports the development of heterogeneous Pd-based bimetallic catalysts supported on fumed silica that have high activity and selectivity matching those of homogeneous catalysts, eliminating the catalyst's leaching and sintering and allowing efficient recycling of the catalysts. Palladium and base metal (Cu, Ni or Co) contents of less than 1.0 wt% loading are deposited on a mesoporous fumed silica support (surface area SABET = 350 m2 g-1) using strong electrostatic adsorption (SEA) yielding homogeneously alloyed nanoparticles with an average size of 1.3 nm. All bimetallic catalysts were found to be highly active toward Suzuki cross-coupling (SCC) reactions with superior activity and stability for the CuPd/SiO2 catalyst. A low CuPd/SiO2 loading (Pd: 0.3 mol%) completes the conversion of bromobenzene and phenylboronic acid to biphenyl in 30 minutes under ambient conditions in water/ethanol solvent. In contrast, monometallic Pd/SiO2 (Pd: 0.3 mol%) completes the same reaction in three hours under the same conditions. The combination of Pd with the base metals helps in retaining the Pd0 status by charge donation from the base metals to Pd, thus lowering the activation energy of the aryl halide oxidative addition step. Along with its exceptional activity, CuPd/SiO2 exhibits excellent recycling performance with a turnover frequency (TOF) of 280 000 h-1 under microwave reaction conditions at 60 °C. Our study demonstrates that SEA is an excellent synthetic strategy for depositing ultra-small Pd-based bimetallic nanoparticles on porous silica for SCC. This avenue not only provides highly active and sintering-resistant catalysts but also significantly lowers Pd contents in the catalysts without compromising catalytic activity, making the catalysts very practical for large-scale applications.

Abstract
This article presents an experimental kinetic study of the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction of 4-iodoacetophenone with phenylboronic acid catalyzed by the Herrmann–Beller palladacycle. This catalyst, together with the solvent (ethanol) and the base (sodium methylate), were chosen to ensure catalyst stability and reactants solubility all along the reaction. Based on the study of initial reaction rates, a quasi-first-order was found for 4-iodoacetophenone with a first-order dependence on the initial concentration of palladium. A zero-order was found for the base and the phenylboronic acid. The oxidative addition step of the mechanism was thus considered as the rate determining step. A global rate law was derived and validated quantitatively. A global activation energy, with an average value of ca. 63 kJ/mol was determined.

Abstract
Solid supported catalysts have been of considerable interest in organic synthesis for the
last few years. Solid support provides an efficient heterogeneous catalytic system owing to facile
recovery and extensive recycling by simple filtration because of possessing 3-R approach (Recoverable,
Robust and Recyclable) and makes solid supported catalyst more appealing nowadays. In view
of the high cost and shortage of furthermost used palladium catalyst, its recovery and recycling are
vital issues for any large-scale application which are being overcome by using solid supported
catalytic systems. Therefore, a variety of inorganic and organic solid-supported catalytic systems
have been developed so far in order to address these challenges. This review attempts highlight a
number of solid supported catalytic systems in the pro-active area of widely used C-C cross coupling
reactions.

Abstract
A simple and efficient system was developed for the ligand-free Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura reaction in water under mild conditions. Quaternary ammonium hydroxides with long chains were found to be very suitable bases. This ligand-free Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura reaction showed improved durability in water with Pd loadings decreased to ppm level. Bases were shown to stabilize active palladium species in addition to acting as a base during the catalytic process. In the catalytic system with a strong base, the soluble active PdII ion exhibited anti-reduction properties, which prevented aggregation and deactivation of Pd species. The entire catalytic system could be recycled after separating the product by simple filtration. The water-compatible and air-stable effective catalytic protocol described herein represents an attractive and green synthetic advance in Suzuki-Miyaura couplings.

Abstract
We reveal the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction catalyzed by a Pd–Co nanocatalyst supported by Mg–Fe–CHT (calcined hydrotalcites). A variety of boronic acids and aryl halides were transformed into functionalized biphenyls in excellent yields using water as a solvent. The reaction could proceed under mild conditions with a simple operation and high turnover numbers. The excellent catalytic activities are reasonably attributed to the Co-doping, which forms a Pd–Co alloy on the surface of CHT.

Abstract
A critical review of conclusions about the putative heterogeneous mechanism in the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling by supported Pd solids is reported. In the first section, the turnover frequencies (TOF) of 20 well-established homogeneous catalysts are shown to be in the range 200 to 1,000,000,000 h − 1 . The evidences used to prove a heterogeneous mechanism are discussed and another interpretation is proposed, hypothesizing that only the leached species are responsible for the catalytic reaction, even at ppb levels. Considering more than 40 published catalytic systems for which liquid phase Pd content have been reported, activities have been computed based on leached Pd concentrations and are shown to be in the range TOF 150 to 70,000,000 h − 1 . Such values are compatible with those found for the well-established homogeneous catalysts which questions the validity of the conclusions raised by many papers about the heterogeneous (solid) nature of Suzuki-Miyaura catalysis. Last, a tentative methodology is proposed which involves the rational use of well-known tests (hot-filtration test, mercury test…) to help to discriminate between homogeneous and heterogeneous mechanisms.

Abstract
Pd/DNA catalysts were prepared in a mixed H2O/EtOH solvent using palladium precursors, Pd(OAc)2 and PdCl2, in different dosages and salmon fish sperm DNA. As prepared, the Pd/DNA contained Pd(II) and Pd(0) nanoparticles of various sizes and morphologies, depending on the preparation method. Pd/DNA efficiently catalyzed the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling of various aryl bromides with phenylboronic acids. The catalyst was recovered by simple phase separation and then reused in seven consecutive cycles with a high activity.

Abstract
Halogen atoms in molecular crystals may be involved in various interactions, often playing a very important role in structure stabilization. By introducing electron-donating groups, such as NH2, the electron density of the molecule is changed and thus interactions with the bromine substituent may alter. Herein, the crystal structures of meta-bromonitrobenzene and its NH2-substituted derivatives are analyzed. In all four described structures, namely m-bromonitrobenzene [Charlton & Trotter (1963). Acta Cryst. 16, 313], 4-bromo-2-nitroaniline (C6H5BrN2O2, 1), 2-bromo-6-nitroaniline (2) and 2-bromo-4-nitroaniline [Arshad et al. (2009). Acta Cryst. E65, o480], the Br atom is engaged in different interactions (Br...π, Br...O, Br...Br and C-H...Br, respectively). The Hirshfeld surface analysis (HS) and Reduced Density Gradient NonCovalent Interaction (RDG NCI) plots are used to prove the relevance, directionality and stabilizing nature of these interactions. Their modifications have been associated with the position of the amino group in the molecular structure and its influence on charge distribution analyzed with electrostatic potential surfaces (EPS). The diversification of the interactions has been correlated with a σ-hole potential value that enables a switching of the Br-atom character from electrophilic to nucleophilic.

Abstract
Stable, catalytically active palladium nanoparticles of various average diameters (1.9-7.4 nm) have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy, and microscopy techniques to demonstrate remarkable size-dependent and renewed catalytic activity toward the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction in green protocol. The catalytic activity is found to depend on the amount of the reducing agent, stabilizer-precursor ratio, solvent composition, and aryl halides used. The product obtained by this reaction is characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and IR spectroscopy analyses. A newly developed kinetic equation illustrates that while the catalyst particles of the lowest dimension are gradually exposed to the reactants and hence activated due to partial removal of capping polymer from the catalyst surface, others are deactivated due to agglomeration during the progress of the reaction, as conformed by the microscopic profiles of the used and unused catalysts.

Abstract
Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling between (hetero)aryl halides (Cl, Br, I) and versatile, moisture-stable mono- and bifunctional potassium aryltrifluoroborates proceeded efficiently and chemoselectively in air and under generally mild conditions; a catalyst loading as low as 1 mol % combined with Na2 CO3 as a base in choline chloride/glycerol (1:2) deep eutectic solvent (DES) was used as a sustainable and environmentally responsible medium. The catalyst, base, and DES were easily and successfully recycled up to six times with an E-factor as low as 8.74. Valuable biaryls and terphenyl derivatives were furnished in yields of up to 98 %; over 50 reactions were compared and discussed. The methodology was applied for the synthesis of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs Felbinac and Diflunisal.

In this paper we outline how dihalohydration reactions of propargylic alcohols can be used to access a wide variety of useful halogenated building blocks. A novel procedure for dibromohydration of alkynes has been developed, and a selection of dichloro and dibromo diols and cyclic ethers were synthesized. The dihalohydration of homo-propargylic alcohols provides a useful route to 3-halofurans, which were shown to readily undergo cycloaddition reactions under mild conditions. Finally, a novel ring expansion of propargylic alcohols containing a cyclopropylalkyne provides access to halogenated alkenylcyclobutanes.

Abstract
Unlike their SCS analogues, SNS pincer complexes are poorly studied for their use in coupling reactions. Accordingly, a series of water soluble cationic Pd(II) SNS pincer complexes have been successfully synthesised and investigated in detail for their catalytic activity in Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions. By using only 0.5 mol % loading of the complexes, the coupling of inactivated aryl bromides and activated aryl chlorides with various boronic acids in water was achieved in excellent yields and the catalysts were found to be reusable for three cycles without a significant loss of activity. The investigation of the mechanism of the reaction revealed that a Pd(II) to Pd(IV) route is the more likely pathway which was further supported by computational studies.
