Abstract
An iron‐catalyzed C−H/N−H alkyne annulation was realized by using a customizable clickable triazole amide under exceedingly mild reaction conditions. A unifying mechanistic approach combining experiment, spectroscopy, kinetics, and computation provided strong support for facile C−H activation by a ligand‐to‐ligand hydrogen transfer (LLHT) mechanism. Combined Mössbauer spectroscopic analysis and DFT calculations were indicative of high‐spin iron(II) species as the key intermediates in the C−H activation manifold.

Abstract
Iron-catalyzed ortho C-H arylation and methylation reactions of pivalophenone N-H imines are reported. The pivaloyl N-H imine proved an excellent directing group for the arylation with diarylzinc reagents in the presence of an iron-diphosphine catalyst and 2,3-dichlorobutane at room temperature. A similar catalytic system also allowed methylation with Me3 Al at 70 °C. The pivaloyl imine of the product could be readily converted to a cyano group, thus allowing convenient preparation of ortho-functionalized benzonitriles.

Abstract
Chemoselective C-H arylations were accomplished through micellar catalysis by a versatile single-component ruthenium catalyst. The strategy provided expedient access to C-H-arylated ferrocenes with wide functional-group tolerance and ample scope through weak chelation assistance. The sustainability of the C-H arylation was demonstrated by outstanding atom-economy and recycling studies. Detailed computational studies provided support for a facile C-H activation through thioketone assistance.

Abstract
A convenient, oxidant-free protocol was developed for the ortho trifluoromethylation of aniline via picolinamide assisted Fe-promoted C-H functionalization under ultraviolet irradiation. In this transformation acetone essentially acted as both a solvent to dissolve reactants and a low-cost radical initiator to efficiently generate a CF3 radical from Langlois' reagent. A broad substrate scope was tolerated and picolinamide bearing strong electron withdrawing groups also could be transformed into the corresponding products with acceptable yields. Furthermore, the value of this method has been highlighted via the efficient synthesis of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug floctafenine.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed C-H alkylation reactions directed by aldehydes or ketones have been largely restricted to electronically activated alkenes. Herein, we report a general protocol for the Ir(iii)-catalyzed ortho C-H alkylations of (hetero)aromatic aldehydes using alkyl boron reagents as the coupling partner. Featuring aniline as an inexpensive catalytic ligand, the method was compatible with a wide variety of benzaldehydes, heterocyclic aldehydes, potassium alkyltrifluoroborates as well as a few α,β-unsaturated aldehydes. An X-ray crystal structure of a benzaldehyde ortho C-H iridation intermediate was also successfully obtained.

Abstract
C-H activation has surfaced as an increasingly powerful tool for molecular sciences, with notable applications to material sciences, crop protection, drug discovery, and pharmaceutical industries, among others. Despite major advances, the vast majority of these C-H functionalizations required precious 4d or 5d transition metal catalysts. Given the cost-effective and sustainable nature of earth-abundant first row transition metals, the development of less toxic, inexpensive 3d metal catalysts for C-H activation has gained considerable recent momentum as a significantly more environmentally-benign and economically-attractive alternative. Herein, we provide a comprehensive overview on first row transition metal catalysts for C-H activation until summer 2018.

A comprehensive overview of directing groups applied in metal-catalysed C-H functionalisation chemistry. Chem Soc Rev 2018; 47:6603-6743. Abstract
The present review is devoted to summarizing the recent advances (2015-2017) in the field of metal-catalysed group-directed C-H functionalisation. In order to clearly showcase the molecular diversity that can now be accessed by means of directed C-H functionalisation, the whole is organized following the directing groups installed on a substrate. Its aim is to be a comprehensive reference work, where a specific directing group can be easily found, together with the transformations which have been carried out with it. Hence, the primary format of this review is schemes accompanied with a concise explanatory text, in which the directing groups are ordered in sections according to their chemical structure. The schemes feature typical substrates used, the products obtained as well as the required reaction conditions. Importantly, each example is commented on with respect to the most important positive features and drawbacks, on aspects such as selectivity, substrate scope, reaction conditions, directing group removal, and greenness. The targeted readership are both experts in the field of C-H functionalisation chemistry (to provide a comprehensive overview of the progress made in the last years) and, even more so, all organic chemists who want to introduce the C-H functionalisation way of thinking for a design of straightforward, efficient and step-economic synthetic routes towards molecules of interest to them. Accordingly, this review should be of particular interest also for scientists from industrial R&D sector. Hence, the overall goal of this review is to promote the application of C-H functionalisation reactions outside the research groups dedicated to method development and establishing it as a valuable reaction archetype in contemporary R&D, comparable to the role cross-coupling reactions play to date.

Abstract
A facile insertion of ruthenium into aromatic C-H and allylic C-N bonds are the key steps in a [Ru( p-cymene)Cl2]2-catalyzed ortho-C-H allylation of benzoic acids. This protocol allows drawing on the large pool of allylic amines for state-of-the-art ortho-functionalizations of arenes, turning neutral amines into leaving groups. Concise syntheses of biologically active compounds provide further evidence of the synthetic potential of this methodology.

Abstract
Versatile C–H amidations of synthetically useful ferrocenes were accomplished by weakly-coordinating thiocarbonyl-assisted cobalt catalysis. Thus, carboxylates enabled ferrocene C–H nitrogenations with dioxazolones, featuring ample substrate scope and robust functional group tolerance. Mechanistic studies provided strong support for a facile organometallic C–H activation manifold.

Abstract
A [Ru(p-cymene)Cl2]2 catalyst activates allyl alcohols and ethers for the regioselective ortho-C-H allylation of aromatic and heteroaromatic carboxylates. The reaction is orthogonal to most C-H functionalisations with allyl alcohols in that allyl arenes rather than carbonyl compounds are obtained. A wide range of substrates are thus smoothly transformed to allylarenes at 50 °C in phosphate-buffered 2,2,2-trichloroethanol. The reaction concept combines the use of abundant reagents and directing groups in a sustainable, waste-minimised method for C-C bond formation.

Abstract
Secondary C(sp3 )-H arylations were accomplished by palladium catalysis with triazoles as peptide bond isosteres. The unique power of this approach is highlighted by the possibility of achieving secondary C(sp3 )-H functionalizations on terminal peptides as well as the unprecedented positional-selective C(sp3 )-H functionalization of internal peptide positions, setting the stage for modular peptide late-stage diversification.
