Abstract
A new approach is presented to form self-supported bimetallic nanosized solids with acid and redox catalytic properties. They are water-, air- and H2-stable, and are able to activate demanding C-C and C-H reactions. A detailed mechanistic study on the formation of the Ag-Fe bimetallic system shows that a rapid redox-coupled sequence between Ag+, O2 (air) and Fe2+ occurs, giving monodisperse Ag nanoparticles supported by O-bridged diatomic Fe3+ triflimides. The system can be expanded to Ag nanoparticles embedded within a matrix of Cu2+, Bi3+ and Yb3+ triflimide.

Abstract
Ideal heterogeneous tandem catalysts necessitate the rational design and integration of collaborative active sites. Herein, we report on the synthesis of a new tandem catalyst with multiple metal-oxide interfaces based on a tube-in-tube nanostructure using template-assisted atomic layer deposition, in which Ni nanoparticles are supported on the outer surface of the inner Al2 O3 nanotube (Ni/Al2 O3 interface) and Pt nanoparticles are attached to the inner surface of the outer TiO2 nanotube (Pt/TiO2 interface). The tandem catalyst shows remarkably high catalytic efficiency in nitrobenzene hydrogenation over Pt/TiO2 interface with hydrogen formed in situ by the decomposition of hydrazine hydrate over Ni/Al2 O3 interface. This can be ascribed to the synergy effect of the two interfaces and the confined nanospace favoring the instant transfer of intermediates. The tube-in-tube tandem catalyst with multiple metal-oxide interfaces represents a new concept for the design of highly efficient and multifunctional nanocatalysts.

Abstract
In this work, we reported the synthesis of bifunctional carbocatalyst with acid-base dual-activation mechanism by introducing organoamines on the basal planes of graphene oxide (GO). Interestingly, GO-supported primary amine (AP-GO) exclusively promoted one-pot Henry-Michael reactions with excellent activity to give synthetically valuable multifunctionalized nitroalkanes. Notably, it also exhibited significantly higher activity than those using propylamine, activated carbon-supported primary amine, and mesoporous silica-supported primary amine as the catalysts. This superior catalytic performance originated from the unique properties of AP-GO, which provided the acid-base cooperative effect by the appropriate positioning of primary amines on their basal planes and carboxyl acids along their edges and the decreased diffusion resistance of the reactants and the intermediates during the multistep catalytic cycles because of its open two-dimensional sheet-like structure. Moreover, it could be readily recycled by simple filtration and subsequently reused without significant loss of its catalytic activity in a six times run test.

Abstract
The one-pot production of industrially valuable diketone derivatives from carbohydrates is achieved through a bifunctional catalytic process. In particular, Pd/C-catalyzed hydrogenation of HMF in water and under CO2 affords 1-hydroxypentane-2,5-dione with up to 77% yield. The process is also eligible starting from fructose and inulin, affording 1-hydroxyhexane-2,5-dione with 36% and 15% yield, respectively. The key of the process is reversible in situ formation of carbonic acid, which is capable of assisting Pd/C during the hydrogenation reaction by promoting the dehydration of carbohydrates and the ring-opening of furanic intermediates. Interestingly, by changing the reaction medium from H2 O to a H2 O/THF mixture (1:9), it is possible to switch the selectivity of the reaction and to produce 2,5-hexanadione with 83% yield. Within the framework of sustainable chemistry, reactions presented in this report show 100% carbon economy, involve CO2 to generate acidity, require water as a solvent, and are conducted under rather low hydrogen pressures (10 bar).

Abstract
A hierarchical core-shell-satellite structured composite system Fe3O4@MS-NH2@Pd, which was composed of Pd nanoparticles well-dispersed on an amino group functionalized mesoporous silica (MS-NH2) nanosphere, and superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles scattered inside the silica sphere, was prepared by using a facile procedure. The composite combined the catalytic properties of amino groups and Pd nanoparticles with superparamagnetic properties of magnetite into a single platform. This integrated nanosystem acted as an efficient magnetically recyclable noble metal-base multifunctional nanocatalyst and showed excellent catalytic activity, selectivity and stability for the direct synthesis of α-alkylated nitriles under mild conditions through facile one-pot multistep cascade reaction sequences.

Abstract
Using an innovative approach toward multiple carbon-carbon bond-formations that relies on the multifaceted catalytic properties of titanocene complexes we constructed a series of C1-C7 analogs of curcumin for evaluation as brain and peripheral nervous system anti-cancer agents. C2-Arylated analogs proved efficacious against neuroblastoma (SK-N-SH & SK-N-FI) and glioblastoma multiforme (U87MG) cell lines. Similar inhibitory activity was also evident in p53 knockdown U87MG GBM cells. Furthermore, lead compounds showed limited growth inhibition in vitro against normal primary human CD34+hematopoietic progenitor cells. Taken together, the present findings indicate that these curcumin analogs are viable lead compounds for the development of new central and peripheral nervous system cancer chemotherapeutics with the potential for little effects on normal hematopoietic progenitor cells.

Abstract
In an attempt to mimic the biosynthetic efficiencies of nature and in a search for greener, more sustainable alternatives to nowadays ways of producing chemicals, one-pot cascade reactions have attracted a lot of attention in the past decade. Since most catalysts are not compatible with each other, compartmentalization techniques have often been applied to prevent catalyst inactivation. A various array of nanoreactors have been developed to meet the demand of having a site-isolated catalyst system, while maintaining the catalyst activity. Both multienzyme nanoreactors as well as enzyme/metal catalyst or organocatalyst systems have shown great potential in one-pot cascade reactions and hold promise for future developments in this field.

Abstract
A series of nineteen benzimidazoles are prepared from ortho-nitroanilines via one-pot transfer hydrogenation, condensation, and dehydrogenation enabled by the concurrent use of two heterogeneous catalysts: montmorillonite-K10 and Pd/C. This strategy is further employed to accomplish a five-step, three-component synthesis of an antifungal benzimidazoquinazoline using a simple one-pot procedure.

Abstract
Efficient basic hydrotalcite (HT)-supported gold nanoparticle (AuNP) catalysts have been developed for the aerobic oxidative tandem synthesis of methyl esters and imines from primary alcohols catalyzed under mild and soluble-base-free conditions. The catalytic performance can be fine-tuned for these cascade reactions by simple adjustment of the Mg/Al atomic ratio of the HT support. The one-pot synthesis of methyl esters benefits from high basicity (Mg/Al = 5), whereas moderate basicity greatly improves imine selectivity (Mg/Al = 2). These catalysts outperform previously reported AuNP catalysts by far. Kinetic studies show a cooperative enhancement between AuNP and the surface basic sites, which not only benefits the oxidation of the starting alcohol but also the subsequent steps of the tandem reactions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that straightforward control of the composition of the support has been shown to yield optimum AuNP catalysts for different tandem reactions.
