Abstract
A chemoenzymatic approach for the asymmetric total synthesis of the title compounds is described that employs an enantioselective oxidative C-C bond formation catalyzed by berberine bridge enzyme (BBE) in the asymmetric key step. This unique reaction yielded enantiomerically pure (R)-benzylisoquinoline derivatives and (S)-berbines such as the natural product (S)-scoulerine, a sedative and muscle relaxing agent. The racemic substrates rac-1 required for the biotransformation were prepared in 4-8 linear steps using either a Bischler-Napieralski cyclization or a C1-Cα alkylation approach. The chemoenzymatic synthesis was applied to the preparation of fourteen enantiomerically pure alkaloids, including the natural products (S)-scoulerine and (R)-reticuline, and gave overall yields of up to 20% over 5-9 linear steps.

Abstract
The first total synthesis of the pyranoisoflavone kraussianone 1 (1) is described. The key steps involved the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction for the construction of the isoflavone core and the regioselective formation of the dimethylpyran scaffolds to the phloroglucinol (ring A) and resorcinol (ring B) moieties of kraussianone 1 (1). This route also provided access to the related isoflavones eriosemaone D (2) and genistein (3) via simple structural modifications.

Abstract
Enantioselective total syntheses and X-ray structures of both (S)-tetrahydropalmatrubine (2) and (S)-corytenchine (3) are reported for the first time. They were both derived from (S)-N-norlaudanidine, a benzyltetrahydroisoquinoline that was synthesized with high (>95% ee) enantioselectivity using a chiral auxiliary-assisted Bischler-Napieralski cyclization/reduction approach.

Abstract
1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroisoquinoline-1-carbonitriles can serve as starting materials for the one-pot synthesis of 5,6-dihydropyrrolo[2,1 a]isoquinolines and 1-benzyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolines. The latter compounds were transformed to lamellarin G trimethyl ether and lamellarin U in short reaction sequences. This method allows the introduction of acid-sensitive protecting groups for the phenolic hydroxy functions which would be cleaved under the harsh conditions of the classical Bischler-Napieralski reaction.

Abstract
Amidate-supported titanium amido complexes are efficient and regioselective precatalysts for intermolecular hydroamination of terminal alkynes with primary amines. The synthesis and characterization of the first bis(amidate)-supported titanium-imido complex is reported. Its role as the active catalytic species is suggested in the course of product distribution studies using deuterated substrates. The bis(amidate)-supported precatalysts exhibit good functional-group tolerance, even performing hydroaminations in the presence of ester and amide groups. This functional-group tolerance was exploited in the synthesis of a variety of 1-substituted tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloids and a one-pot hydroaminative procedure for the high yielding preparation of the benzo[a]quinolizine skeleton.

Abstract
Catalytic additions of ammonia or primary and secondary amines to non-activated alkenes and alkynes are called hydroaminations. These reactions of fundamental simplicity represent the most atom efficient processes for the formation of amines, enamines and imines, which are important bulk and fine chemicals or building blocks in organic synthesis. Consequently, the development of corresponding hydroamination reactions has received much attention and great progress has been achieved in the case of catalytic hydroaminations of alkynes over the past four years. To illustrate this progress, this tutorial review will mostly focus on recent developments in the field of intermolecular hydroamination of alkynes that appeared in the literature between the end of 2002 and October 31, 2006.
