Abstract
Letrozole and metronidazole are two commonly used drugs for the management of breast cancer and parasitic infections, respectively. This manuscript attempts to study their structure, geometry, search for stable conformers using relaxed potential energy scan, spectral properties, quantum mechanical properties like energy and reactivity descriptors, intra molecular electron transfer properties, non-linear properties etc using various computational tools. It is found that these compounds will form a self-assembly with graphene sheets and fullerenes and exhibit a surface-enhanced Raman spectra and enhancement in non-linear optical properties when compared to the single molecule. The electronic absorption behavior of the compounds was studied using TD-DFT method. Global chemical reactivity descriptors and activity sites toward electrophilic and nucleophilic attack have been discussed. Studies of intra molecular electron transfer gave information about the relative stability of the compounds. Molecular docking studies indicate that the pure compounds and their self-assemblies with graphene have excellent biological activities.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
Estazolam (Z1) and related derivatives, adinazolam (Z2), alprazolam (Z3), 4-hydroxyalprazolam (Z4) and triazolam (Z5) have been studied by using various computational tools to analyze their geometry and spectral characteristics. The compounds were found to interact with graphene monolayer results shows that there is enhancement in various physico-chemical descriptors and surface enhanced Raman spectra (SERS). The various reactive descriptors obtained from the FMO analysis predict the reactive nature of the compound. The various lone pair/sigma to pi conjugation was analyzed using NBO formalism, which provides valuable information about intra molecular electron transfer which is vital in predicting the inherent stability of the molecule. Simulated electronic spectra using TD-DFT and CAM-B3LYP functional are discussed in detail with respect to electronic transitions and light harvesting efficiency. Suitability of candidates as a photo sensitizer in dye sensitized solar cells was studied and 4-Hydroxyalprazolam is identified as a suitable candidate. Nucleophilic and electrophilic regions of the molecules are identified using MESP, which adds to the reactivity information. It can be seen that the highest interaction energy has been obtained in the case of the Z5-graphene system, while the lowest interaction energy has been obtained in the case of the Z1-graphene system. Docking indicates that the ligands adsorbed over graphene also form stable complexes with the receptors as indicated by the high binding affinity energy values.

Abstract
Recently, chemical modifications of chitosan (CS) have attracted the attention of scientific researchers due to its wide range of applications. In this research, chitin (CH) was extracted from the scales of Cyprinus carpio fish and converted to CS by three chemical steps: (i) demineralization, (ii) deprotonation, and (iii) deacetylation. The degree (measured as a percentage) of deacetylation (DD %) was calculated utilizing the acid-base titration method. The structure of CS was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Three new CS Schiff bases (CSSBs) (CS-P1, CS-P2, and CS-P3) were synthesized via coupling of CS with 2-chloroquinoline-3-carbaldehyde, quinazoline-6-carbaldehyde, and oxazole-4-carbaldehyde, respectively. The newly prepared derivatives were verified, structurally, by nuclear magnetic resonance (1H and 13C NMR) and FT-IR spectroscopy. Antimicrobial activity was evaluated for the prepared compounds against both "Gram-negative" and "Gram-positive" bacteria, namely, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus mutans, in addition to two kinds of fungi, Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigates. Cytotoxicity of the synthesized CSSBs was evaluated via a MTT screening test. The results indicated a critical activity increase of the synthesized compound rather than CS generally tested bacteria and fungi and the absence of cytotoxic activity. These findings suggested that these new CSSBs are novel biomaterial candidates with enhanced antibacterial and nontoxic characteristics for applications in areas of both biology and medicine.
