Abstract
ONO-Pincer Schiff base salicylidene (HSaln ligand) complexes with VO2+, UO2 2+, MoO2 2+ and Mn2+ ions (MSaln complexes = VOSaln, UO2Saln, MoO2Saln and MnSaln, respectively) were synthesized and fully characterized by different physico-chemical tools. The VOSaln complex was further treated with 1,10-phenanthroline which afforded a new VO-complex (VOSaln-Ph). All complexes and their ligands, as eco-friendly reagents, were explored for their biological potential as antibacterial and antifungal agents. Reactivity of MSaln complexes against the tested pathogen strains exhibited a remarkable inhibitory effect compared to the coordinated ligand (HSaln) and applicable standard drugs. Moreover, the MSaln complex-DNA interaction was investigated by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, viscosity and gel electrophoresis techniques affording binding strengths in the order: UO2Saln > MnSaln > MoO2Saln > VOSaln-Ph > VOSaln. Additionally, the biological potential of the investigated compounds was further explored by molecular docking to illustrate the nature of the drug-DNA interactions. All MSaln complexes show respectable anti-proliferative potential as anticancer agents against selected human carcinoma cell lines. Aside from the biological activities these complexes (MSaln complexes) were also investigated for catalytic efficiency in the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling system of phenylboronic acid with 2-bromopyridine in water, sustainably. The results indicated that the MnSaln catalyst performed well with high yield. The catalytic potential of MnSaln was compared in water, water-ionic liquid mixtures and ionic liquids.

Abstract
Five imidazo [1,2-a]pyridine derivatives and their Au(III) complexes were synthesized. The compounds were characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, IR, mass, UV-visible, elemental analysis, conductivity and magnetic measurement studies. All the compounds were screened for diverse biological activities to check the effect of coordination of Au(III) with imidazo [1,2-a]pyridine heterocycles. The DNA interaction ability of compounds were studied as the change in absorption maxima and position of HS-DNA in presence of compounds and viscosity measurement due to change in DNA length under the influence of compounds. The computational insight of compound-DNA interaction was taken in docking study. All the results suggest intercalation mode of binding. The cellular level cytotoxic nature of compounds was evaluated using trypan blue dye staining of dead cell in cell viability assay. The smearing of DNA was observed, while DNA extracted from S. pombe cells in presence of complexes was subjected to gel electrophoresis, which shows their toxic effect on DNA. The complexes were evaluated for cytotoxicity on human A549 (Lung adenocarcinoma) cell line by MTT assay (IC50 values). The in vitro cytotoxicity in terms of LC50 value was checked on a simple zoological organism, brine shrimp.

Abstract
Bioremediation is preferred in heavy metal remediation, and the high-performance microbe is of prime importance. In the present research, three Pb-resistant microbes were isolated and growth characteristics and adsorption capacities were evaluated. The results showed that R. oryzae SD-1, T. asperellum SD-5, and M. irregularis SD-8 can grow well under 100 mg L-1 Pb2+ ions stress. There is a higher minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Pb but lower MICs of Cd and Zn in T. asperellum SD-5. However, there were similar MICs of Cu among the three microbes. R. oryzae SD-1 exhibited a higher adsorption capacity and removal rate relative to the other two microbes under various Pb2+ ion levels. The Langmuir equation was fitted for the adsorption capacity of T. asperellum SD-5 and M. irregularis SD-8, and their maximum adsorption capacities were approximately 456.62 mg g-1 and 93.62 mg g-1. Moreover, the Elovich equation and the double constant equation can describe the adsorption process of Pb2+ ions in Pb-resistant microbes well. The strongest adsorption capacity under lower Pb2+ ion level was observed in M. irregularis SD-8, while the strongest adsorption capacities under higher Pb2+ ion levels were seen in R. oryzae SD-1 and T. asperellum SD-5. Therefore, three novel Pb-resistant microbes may be used as efficient, easily cultivated materials for Pb-contaminated soil remediation.

Abstract
Two novel oxidovanadium(IV) complexes with a new bidentate (O- and N-) imine-based ligand 2-((E)-(6-fluorobenzo[d]thiazol-2-ylimino)methyl)-6-methoxyphenol (HL) were synthesized under in situ experimental condition where VOSO4 acts as a kinetic template in the ratio 2 : 1 (L : M) and mixed ligand complex using 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) in 1 : 1 : 1 (L : M : phen) ratio. The synthesized compounds were structurally characterized by microanalysis, magnetic susceptibility, FTIR, electronic spectra, TG/DTA, ESR, and molar conductance studies. Based on the spectral studies, the complexes have the general composition [VO(L)2] (C 1 ) and [VO(L)phen] (C 2 ) in a square pyramid geometrical fashion. The synthesized compounds were primarily screened for their in vitro growth inhibiting activity against different strains of bacteria, namely, E. coli, B. subtilis, S. aureus, and P. aeruginosa by the disc diffusion method. Also, the antifungal activity was determined against C. albicans and A. niger by the Bateman poisoned technique. The in vitro antioxidant activity of all the compounds was determined by DPPH free radical-scavenging assay. Intercalative mode of DNA-binding properties of the oxidovanadium(IV) complexes with calf-thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was investigated using UV, fluorescence spectra, and viscosity measurements.

The coordination possibility of the two ligands toward metal ions has been proposed in the light of elemental analysis, molar conductance, spectral infrared (IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) and proton-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), and magnetic studies. Results suggest that GMFX and Gly interact with the metal ions as bidentate ligands. Electronic and magnetic data proposed the octahedral structure for all complexes under investigation. Antibacterial screening of the compounds was carried out in vitro against two Gram-positive bacteria, Clavibacter michiganensis and Bacillus megaterium, and two Gram-negative bacteria, Escherichia coli and Xanthomonas campestris. Antifungal activity was performed in vitro against Rhizoctonia solani, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Aspergillus niger, Botrytis cinerea, and Penicillium digitatum. The ligands and their complexes were also screened for their antioxidant activity. Results showed that some metal complexes showed more biological efficiency than the parent GMFX drug.

Abstract
A bidentate (N- and O-) imine-based ligand (L1) and its metal complexes of types [CuII(L1)2] (C1), [CuII(L1)(Phen)] (C2), [CoIII(L1)2] (C3), and [CoIII(L1)(Phen)] (C4) (L1 = 2-((E)-(6-fluorobenzo[d]thiazol-2-ylimino)methyl)-4-chlorophenol and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) were synthesized as potential chemotherapeutic drug candidates. The prepared complexes were structurally characterized by spectral techniques (NMR, FT-IR, LC-MS, EPR, and electronic absorption), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA/DTA), magnetic moment, and CHNO elemental analysis. Spectroscopic studies suggested the distorted octahedral structure for all complexes. In vitro bioassay studies include binding and nuclease activities of the ligand and its complexes with target calf thymus- (CT-) DNA were carried out by employing UV-Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, viscosity, and gel electrophoresis techniques. The extent of binding propensity was determined quantitatively by Kb and Ksv values which revealed a higher binding affinity for C2 and C4 as compared to C1 and C3. In addition, the scavenging superoxide anion free radical (O∙-2) activity of metal complexes was determined by nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) light reduction assay. Molecular docking studies with DNA and SOD enzyme were also carried out on these compounds. The antimicrobial study has shown that all the compounds are potential antibacterial agents against Gram-negative bacterial strains and better antifungal agents with respect to standard drugs used.

Abstract
Catalytic abatement of 4-chlorophenol, 2,4-dichlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid in water was investigated by peroxide oxidation over chromium substituted zinc ferrite nanocomposites at ambient conditions. The structural and chemical properties of composites synthesized by sol-gel auto combustion method was studied by X-ray diffraction, Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy, surface area, X-ray Fluorescence spectroscopy, Temperature Programmed Reduction and Desorption techniques. Complete removal of 4-CP, DCP and 2,4-D was achieved within 60, 75 and 90min with 96.7/90.5%, 93.88/77.23% and 88.55/62.1% of COD/TOC removal respectively at 298K and 343K. Influence of reaction variables including reaction temperature, oxidant concentration, substrate concentration, catalyst dosage and its composition on the removal efficiency was studied. Kinetic study revealed that wet peroxide oxidation followed a first order kinetic model with rate constant and activation energy of 3.5×10-2min-1/10.7kJ/mole, 9.5×10-3min-1/12.9kJ/mole and 2.29×10-2min-1/17.7kJ/mole respectively for 4-CP, DCP and 2,4-D. The results of five consecutive catalytic runs from X-ray diffraction, Brunauer Emmet Teller surface area and leaching studies from Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) revealed the excellent stability of the catalyst. Scavenging effect of n-butanol on hydroxyl radical indicated a heterogeneous free radical mechanism.

Abstract
The emergence of old and new antibiotic resistance created in the last decades revealed a substantial medical need for new classes of antimicrobial agents. The antimicrobial activity of sulfa drugs is often enhanced by complexation with metal ions, which is in concordance with the well-known importance of metal ions in biological systems. Besides, sulfonamides and its derivatives constitute an important class of drugs, with several types of pharmacological agents possessing antibacterial, anti-carbonic anhydrase, diuretic, hypoglycemic, antithyroid, antiviral and anticancer activities, among others. The purpose of this work has been the obtainment, characterization and determination of biological properties (antibacterial, antifungal, mutagenicity and phytotoxicity) of a new Co(III)-sulfathiazole complex: Costz, besides of its interaction with bovine serum albumin (BSA). The reaction between sodium sulfathiazole (Nastz) and cobalt(II) chloride in the presence of H2O2 leads to a brown solid, [CoIII(stz)2OH(H2O)3], (Costz). The structure of this compound has been examined by means of elemental analyses, FT-IR, 1H NMR, UV-Visible spectrometric methods and thermal studies. The Co(III) ion, which exhibits a distorted octahedral environment, could coordinate with the N thiazolic atom of sulfathiazolate. The complex quenched partially the native fluorescence of bovine serum albumin (BSA), suggesting a specific interaction with the protein. The Costz complex showed, in vitro, a moderate antifungal activity against Aspergillus fumigatus and A. flavus. As antibacterial, Costz displayed, in vitro, enhanced activity respective to the ligand against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Costz did not show mutagenic properties with the Ames test. In the Allium cepa test the complex showed cytotoxic properties but not genotoxic ones. These results may be auspicious, however, further biological studies are needed to consider the complex Costz as a possible drug in the future.
