The co-adsorption of thymohydroquinone dimethyl ether (THQ) and coumarin present in the aqueous extract of Ayapana triplinervis on mild steel and its protection in hydrochloric acid up to 323 K: computational and physicochemical studies. Abstract
This study evaluates the corrosion inhibition property of the aqueous and alcoholic leaf extracts of the medicinal plant Ayapana triplinervis. The major components in the extracts are thymohydroquinone dimethyl ether (THQ) and coumarin. It is clear from the weight-loss studies that the water extract of the leaves (AYW) is superior to the alcoholic extract (AYA) in terms of offering corrosion inhibition. The 96% efficiency of 4% (v/v) AYW in 0.5 N HCl at room temperature changes to 84.62% at 323 K. The mixed-type inhibition behaviour of AYW shows slight dominance in the anodic direction. Studies suggest the multilayer adsorption of phytochemicals on the metal surface and that the adsorption follows the Temkin model. Theoretical studies using DFT and BIOVIA Materials Studio investigations establish THQ as a good inhibitor with high adsorption characteristics. Even though the concentration of coumarin in the extract is low, its presence in the extract facilitates the adsorption of THQ on the metal surface, which is evident from the MD simulation study. The changes in the surface topography and elemental composition of the metal specimen in the inhibited and uninhibited solution are monitored by SEM and EDX spectral studies. XPS data support the presence of both THQ and coumarin on the metal surface and the existence of co-ordinate bonding between the metal's d orbital and the O atoms of THQ. Theoretical and experimental studies support the mixed mode of adsorption of THQ as physisorption followed by chemisorption. This study evaluates the corrosion inhibition property of the aqueous and alcoholic leaf extracts of the medicinal plant Ayapana triplinervis.![]()

Abstract
Molecular modelling of organic compounds using computational software has emerged as a powerful approach for theoretical determination of the corrosion inhibition potential of organic compounds. Some of the common techniques involved in the theoretical studies of corrosion inhibition potential and mechanisms include density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics (MD) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations, and artificial neural network (ANN) and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modeling. Using computational modelling, the chemical reactivity and corrosion inhibition activities of organic compounds can be explained. The modelling can be regarded as a time-saving and eco-friendly approach for screening organic compounds for corrosion inhibition potential before their wet laboratory synthesis would be carried out. Another advantage of computational modelling is that molecular sites responsible for interactions with metallic surfaces (active sites or adsorption sites) and the orientation of organic compounds can be easily predicted. Using different theoretical descriptors/parameters, the inhibition effectiveness and nature of the metal-inhibitor interactions can also be predicted. The present review article is a collection of major advancements in the field of computational modelling for the design and testing of the corrosion inhibition effectiveness of organic corrosion inhibitors.

Abstract
Acid corrosion is a problem pertaining to corrosion that involves an acid solution. It is important to treat metal to preserve its integrity. Thus, acids are utilized to clean and treat metal surfaces. In return, this may lead to over-etching and metal degradation. Corrosion inhibitors were introduced as a solution for the issue. However, there are some problems associated with the usage of conventional corrosion inhibitors. Traces of nitrites and chromates that are present in the inhibitors may lead to serious health and environmental issues. As a solution, organic green corrosion inhibitors have been studied to replace the conventional corrosion inhibitors. These inhibitor molecules form a protective layer on top of the metal surface to suppress metal dissolution when added to the acid solution. This process prevents direct contact between the metal surfaces and the acid environment. This study explores the usage of natural resources and biomass wastes as the basis for organic green corrosion inhibitors. This study also provides some suggestions for new biomass wastes that can be studied as new organic corrosion inhibitors, and it is aimed at opening the perspective of researchers on exploring new organic inhibitors by using natural resources and biomass wastes.

Abstract
The amount of solar ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation reaching the Earth's surface is increasing due to stratospheric ozone dynamics and global climate change. Increased UV-B radiation poses a major threat to ecosystems. Although many studies have focused on the potential effects of enhanced UV-B radiation on plants, the dynamic changes of defense response in plants under continuous UV-B radiation remains enigmatic. In this study, we investigated the effect of UV-B radiation at 0.024 W/m2 on the UVR8-and reactive oxygen species (ROS-) signaling pathways, antioxidant system, and wax synthesis of G. uralensis. These parameters were investigated at different UV-B radiation stages (2 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h, and 96 h). The results revealed that the uvr8 expression level was significantly repressed after 2 h of UV-B radiation, partly because G. uralensis rapidly acclimated to UV-B. Significant H2O2 accumulation occurred after 12 h UV-B radiation, resulting in activation of the ROS signaling pathway and the antioxidant system. After 24 h of UV-B radiation, wax synthesis was enhanced alongside a decrease in the capacity of the main antioxidant system. The dynamic and ordered changes in these pathways reveal how different strategies function in G. uralensis at different times during adaption to enhanced UV-B radiation. This study will help us better understand dynamic changes of defense response in plant under enhanced UV-B radiation, further providing fundamental knowledge to develop plant resistance gene resources.

Abstract
Five novel pyrazolylnucleosides have been evaluated theoretically for their corrosion inhibition efficiency on the Cu(111) surface in acidic media. DFT calculations were carried out to exhibit the intrinsic properties such as lowest unoccupied (ELUMO) and highest occupied (EHOMO) molecular orbital energies, as well as energy gap (∆E), chemical hardness (η), chemical softness (σ), electronegativity (χ), electrophilicity (ω) and nucleophilicity (ε). The theoretical FT-IR spectra were recorded to indicate the presence of the specific bonds in the studied molecules. The surface interactions between the inhibitor molecules and the metal surface were investigated using molecular dynamics simulations and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. As a result, we have found that the inhibitor pyrazolylnucleosides 5a-e have strong interactions with Cu(111) surface, and therefore have excellent predictive inhibition power against copper corrosion.

Abstract
The micro-nanofibers prepared by the electrospinning technique can be used as a good container for loading healing agents. The core-shell electrospun nanofibers with polyacrylonitrile as the outer shell and tannic acid (TA) and tung oil as the core healing agents were synthesized by a coaxial electrospinning method and exhibited pH-sensitive ability. The nanofibers as additives were added to an epoxy resin coating as a self-healing coating. The morphological stability of the electrospun nanofibers were observed by a scanning electron microscope and a transmission electron microscope. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy reveal that the successful synthesis and uniform distribution of core-shell fibers. The mechanical properties test revealed that the tensile properties of the coating could be improved by adding nanofibers. The infrared mapping test, energy-dispersive spectrometry, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which were carried out on the scratched part of the coating, proved the release of the healing agent in the damaged part. TA forms a protective film on the exposed metal surface through molecular adsorption under acidic conditions. Meanwhile, the curing of tung oil can effectively compensate into the microcracks to form a TA protective film, which could improve the self-healing performance. As the tung oil dries and solidifies in the alkaline solution, the cross-linking effect of the molecules is combined to form a tight film and strength the self-healing ability. TA as an acidic healing agent and tung oil as an alkaline healing agent played the role of pH-sensitive products in healing the cracked coating. The self-healing rates of coating immersing in 3.5 wt % acidic NaCl solution and alkaline solution were 81.6 and 71.2%, respectively. The composite coating shows a great pH-sensitive self-healing ability to heal the cracked coating.
