Abstract
In the present study, our aim is to investigate the preferential binding mode and encapsulation of the flavonoid fisetin in the nano-pore of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) at the molecular level using various theoretical approaches: molecular docking, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and binding free energy calculations. The molecular docking suggested four possible fisetin orientations in the cavity through its chromone or phenyl ring with two different geometries of fisetin due to the rotatable bond between the two rings. From the multiple MD results, the phenyl ring of fisetin favours its inclusion into the β-CD cavity, whilst less binding or even unbinding preference was observed in the complexes where the larger chromone ring is located in the cavity. All MM- and QM-PBSA/GBSA free energy predictions supported the more stable fisetin/β-CD complex of the bound phenyl ring. Van der Waals interaction is the key force in forming the complexes. In addition, the quantum mechanics calculations with M06-2X/6-31G(d,p) clearly showed that both solvation effect and BSSE correction cannot be neglected for the energy determination of the chosen system.

Abstract
The utilization of kaempferol and its glycosides in food and pharmaceutical industries could be improved by the formation of inclusion complexes with cyclodextrins at different pH. This study explores the complexation of kaempferol-4'-glucoside with sulfobutyl ether-β-cyclodextrin (SBE-β-CD), hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD), and methylated-β-cyclodextrin (M-β-CD) in phosphate buffer solutions of different pH using isothermal titration calorimetry, UV-vis absorption and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy at 298.2 K. Experimental results showed that kaempferol-4'-glucoside binds with the three β- cyclodextrins in the same 1:1 stoichiometry. The rank order of stability constants is SBE-β-CD > HP-β-CD > M-β-CD at the same pH level and pH 6.0 > pH 7.4 > pH 9.0 for the same cyclodextrin. The binding of kaempferol-4'-glucoside with the three β-cyclodextrin derivatives is synergistically driven by enthalpy and entropy at pH 6.0 and enthalpy-driven at pH 7.4 and 9.0. The possible inclusion mode was that in the cavity of β-CD is included the planar benzopyranic-4-one part of the kaempferol-4'-glucoside.

Abstract
Plants possess a wide range of molecules capable of improve healing: fibre, vitamins, phytosterols, and further sulphur-containing compounds, carotenoids, organic acid anions and polyphenolics. However, they require an adequate level of protection from the environmental conditions to prevent losing their structural integrity and bioactivity. Cyclodextrins are cyclic oligosaccharides arising from the degradation of starch, which can be a viable option as encapsulation technique. Cyclodextrins are inexpensive, friendly to humans, and also capable of improving the biological, chemical and physical properties of bioactive molecules. Therefore, the aim of this review is to highlight the use of cyclodextrins as encapsulating agents for bioactive plant molecules in the pharmaceutical field.

Abstract
Steady state and time resolved fluorescence along with anisotropy and induced circular dichroism (ICD) spectroscopy provide useful tools to observe and understand the behavior of the therapeutically important plant flavonoids fisetin and daidzein in γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CDx) nanocavity. Benesi-Hildebrand plots indicated 1:1 stoichiometry for both the supramolecular complexes. However, the mode of the binding of fisetin significantly differs from daidzein in γ-CDx, as is observed from ICD spectra which is further confirmed by docking studies. The interaction with γ-CDx proceeds mainly by the phenyl ring and partly by the chromone ring of fisetin whereas only the phenyl ring takes part for daidzein. A linear increase in the aqueous solubility of the flavonoids is assessed from the increase in the binding of the flavonoids with the γ-CDx cavity, which are determined by the gradual increase in the ICD signal, fluorescence emission as well as increase in fluorescence anisotropy with increasing (γ-CDx). This confirms γ-CDx as a nanovehicle for the flavonoids fisetin and daidzein in improving their bioavailability.

Abstract
Chiral separation of iodiconazole, a new antifungal drug, and 12 new structurally related triadimenol analogues had been developed by capillary electrophoresis (CE) using hydroxypropyl-γ-cyclodextrin (HP-γ-CD) as the chiral selector. The effect of structural features of analytes on Δt and R(s) was studied under the optimum separation conditions. Using molecular docking technique and binding energy calculations, the inclusion process between HP-γ-CD and enantiomers was investigated and chiral recognition mechanisms were discussed. The results suggest that hydrogen bonding between fluorine at position 4 of the phenyl group beside the chiral carbon and the hydroxyl group on the HP-γ-CD rim and face to face π-π interactions between two phenyl rings highly contributed to the enantiorecognition process between HP-γ-CD and iodiconazole. The N-methyl group beside chiral carbon also played an important role in enantiomeric separation. Additionally, the big difference in binding energy (ΔΔE) highly contributed to good separation in the presence of HP-γ-CD chiral selector, which may be a helpful initial guide for chiral selector selection and predicting the result of enantioseparation. Furthermore, the new mathematical equation established based on the results of molecular mechanics calculations exhibited good capability in predicting chiral separation of these triadimenol analogues using HP-γ-CD mediated CE.

Abstract
Chiral separations of five β-adrenergic antagonists (propranolol, esmolol, atenolol, metoprolol, and bisoprolol) were studied by capillary electrophoresis using six cyclodextrins (CDs) as the chiral selectors. Carboxymethylated-β-cyclodextrin (CM-β-CD) exhibited a higher enantioselectivity power compared to the other tested CDs. The influences of the concentration of CM-β-CD, buffer pH, buffer concentration, temperature, and applied voltage were investigated. The good chiral separation of five β-adrenergic antagonists was achieved using 50 mM Tris buffer at pH 4.0 containing 8 mM CM-β-CD with an applied voltage of 24 kV at 20 °C. In order to understand possible chiral recognition mechanisms of these racemates with CM-β-CD, host-guest binding procedures of CM-β-CD and these racemates were studied using the molecular docking software Autodock. The binding free energy was calculated using the Autodock semi-empirical binding free energy function. The results showed that the phenyl or naphthyl ring inserted in the hydrophobic cavity of CM-β-CD and the side chain was found to point out of the cyclodextrin rim. Hydrogen bonding between CM-β-CD and these racemates played an important role in the process of enantionseparation and a model of the hydrogen bonding interaction positions was constructed. The difference in hydrogen bonding formed with the -OH next to the chiral center of the analytes may help to increase chiral discrimination and gave rise to a bigger separation factor. In addition, the longer side chain in the hydrophobic phenyl ring of the enantiomer was not beneficial for enantioseparation and the chiral selectivity factor was found to correspond to the difference in binding free energy.

Abstract
The inclusion interaction between chloramphenicol and heptakis (2,6-di-O-methyl)-β-cyclodextrin (DMBCD) had been investigated by phase solubility and spectroscopic methods such as UV-vis spectroscopy, circular dichroism, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((1)H NMR) as well as 2D-ROESY spectra. Phase solubility analysis showed A(L)-type diagram with DMBCD, which suggested the formation of 1:1 inclusion complex of DMBCD with chloramphenicol. The estimated stability constant (K(s)) of the inclusion complex of chloramphenicol with DMBCD is 493 M(-1) at 293 K. The solubility enhancement of chloramphenicol in the presence of DMBCD is stronger than that in the presence of β-CD, HP-β-CD and M-β-CD. The results obtained by spectroscopic methods showed that the nitrophenyl moiety of chloramphenicol is deeply inserted into inner cavity of DMBCD from the narrow rim of DMBCD, which the inclusion model of chloramphenicol with DMBCD differs from that with β-CD.

Computational modeling of capillary electrophoretic behavior of primary amines using dual system of 18-crown-6 and β-cyclodextrin. J Chromatogr A 2011; 1218:5344-51. Abstract
Using capillary electrophoresis (CE) three chiral primary amine compounds 1-aminoindan (AI), 1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine (NEA) and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-naphthylamine (THAN), exhibited only partial or no separation when β-cyclodextrin (βCD) was used as chiral selector. The use of 18-crown-6 (18C6) as a second additive with βCD resulted in an enhanced separation. A molecular modeling study, using molecular mechanics and the semiempirical PM6 calculations, was used to help explaining the mechanism of the enantiodifferentiation and to predict the separation process. Optimization of the structures of the complexes by the PM6 method indicate that the poor separation obtained in the presence of the βCD chiral selector alone is due to the small binding energy differences (ΔΔE) of 4.7, 1.1 and 1.2 kcal mol(-1) for AI, NEA and THAN, respectively. In the presence of 18C6 it was suggested that a sandwich compound between 18C6, amine and βCD is formed. Theoretical calculations show that a significant increase in the binding energy is obtained for the sandwich compounds indicating strong hydrophobic and van der Waals interactions that show enhanced enantiodifferentiation.

Abstract
Measurement of total antioxidant activity/capacity of polyphenols in various solvent media necessitates the use of cyclodextrins to solubilize lipophilic antioxidants of poor aqueous solubility. The inclusion complexes of the slightly water soluble antioxidant, rosmarinic acid (RA), with α-cyclodextrin (α-CD), β-cyclodextrin (β-CD), 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD), 2-hydroxyethyl-β-cyclodextrin (HE-β-CD), and methyl-β-cyclodextrin (M-β-CD) were investigated for the first time. The effect of cyclodextrins (CDs) on the spectral features of RA was measured in aqueous medium using UV-vis and steady-state fluorescence techniques by varying the concentrations of CDs. The molar stoichiometry of RA-CD inclusion complexes was verified as 1:1, and the formation constants of the complexes were determined from Benesi-Hildebrand equation using fluorescence spectroscopic data. Among the CDs, maximum inclusion ability was measured in the case of M-β-CD followed by HP-β-CD, HE-β-CD, β-CD and α-CD. Solid inclusion complexes were prepared by freeze drying, and their functional groups were analyzed by IR spectroscopy. Antioxidant capacity of CD-complexed rosmarinic acid was measured to be higher than that of the lone hydroxycinnamic acid by the CUPric Reducing Antioxidant Capacity (CUPRAC) method. The mechanism of the TAC increase was interpreted as the stabilization of the 1-e oxidized o-catechol moiety of RA by enhanced intramolecular H-bonding in a hydrophobic environment provided by CDs, mostly by M-β-CD.
