Catalytic and Computational Studies of N-Heterocyclic Carbene or Phosphine-Containing Copper(I) Complexes for the Synthesis of 5-Iodo-1,2,3-Triazoles

Competitive formation of homocircuit [3]rotaxanes in synthetically useful yields in the bipyridine-mediated active template CuAAC reaction

We recently identified competitive formation of doubly interlocked [3]rotaxanes as the origin of the non-linear variation in yield of [2]rotaxane with macrocycle size in the bipyridine-mediated AT-CuAAC reaction. Selection of reaction conditions gave [2]rotaxanes in essentially quantitative yield in all cases and hard to access doubly threaded [3]rotaxanes in up to 50% yield in a single, four component coupling. Based on the effect of macrocycle structure on the reaction outcome we propose a detailed mechanism of [3]rotaxane formation.

Tandem Synthesis of 3-chloro-4-iodoisoxazoles from 1-copper(I) alkynes, dichloroformaldoxime, and molecular iodine

A tandem synthesis for structurally novel 3-chloro-4-iodoisoxazoles was developed by simply mixing 1-copper(I) alkynes, dichloroformaldoxime, and molecular iodine together. The combination of 1-copper(I) alkyne and molecular iodine was well used as a synthetic equivalent of 1-iodoalkyne without the need for tedious preparation, purification, and storage of 1-iodoalkyne.

Digital data repositories in chemistry and their integration with journals and electronic notebooks

We discuss the concept of recasting the data-rich scientific journal article into two components, a narrative and separate data components, each of which is assigned a persistent digital object identifier. Doing so allows each of these components to exist in an environment optimized for purpose. We make use of a poorly-known feature of the handle system for assigning persistent identifiers that allows an individual data file from a larger file set to be retrieved according to its file name or its MIME type. The data objects allow facile visualization and retrieval for reuse of the data and facilitates other operations such as data mining. Examples from five recently published articles illustrate these concepts.
